• Can not start Apache 2.2.22 in Fedora 15

  I am trying to start Apache 2.2.22 under Fedora 15 on my local machine. After fixing some errors related to missing modules, httpd -t will just give me 'Syntax OK'. However when I try to start apache as the root user: service httpd start it still returns: Starting httpd (via systemctl): Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details. [FAILED] When entering systemctl I don't see any extra information other than: httpd.service loaded failed failed LSB: start and stop Apache HTTP Server So I wonder where to look now to get this back up and running.

• mysql does not start properly

  Hi I am using XAMPP on Windows XP. Since I changed the version from 1.73 to 1.77 MySQL does not start properly. That means that the status says, it is started, but the safety check says it is not . Because of that I cannot set any password, which is unacceptable. Any idea? • Windows XP Map drive failed

  Greetings, I have a Windows Web Server 2008 VPS and two client machines. One is a Windows 7 box and the other XP. I configured one folder as a share on the 2008 box and attempted to mount it on each of the clients. The catch is it won't work with XP. Same username/password but I get Access granted on the Win 7 but for XP I get: Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. Status: 0xc000006d Any ideas? If this duplicates any other question please refer me but I cannot seem to find the answer.

• Asus Z8NA-D6, not powering up/no signal for monitor

  I have a Asus Z8NA-D6 motherboard. Been running fine so far with one E5504 Xeon processor. I have added another Xeon E5504 CPU to the second slot and it will not power up (or there is no signal to the monitor). The status lights turn on as normal. no error led. Nothing happens other then the leds start and both cpus/fans power up. HDD power up. I tried clearing CMOS. (2 4gb modules) when addin one more to the second cpu it still boots but bios only see the 2 blocks at cpu 1)

• Can Remote Desktop connect only 2 monitors when the client has 3 or 4 monitors connected?

  I have three monitors (all 1920x1200) connected to my desktop and I would like to RDP into another computer (running Windows Server 2003) and use only two of my three monitors. The main monitor is used for notification from the LAN like email, build status, etc. I've tried modifying the .rdp file to have a higher resolution (i.e. 3840x1200 ) which sort of works but the bits per pixel goes down to 8 and you have to manually resize the window which means that you need to change it to around 3840x1150. If I supply /span to the commandline it gives me a bit more than 3840 spanned across the three monitors (is there perhaps a limitation of say 4096 for the maximum resolution?). WORKAROUND: Connect twice to the same computer. Like, I can guess some of them but not every one of them is that obvious.. I remember there was some mouse click or a keyboard shortcut that when you hover over something in your code and click/press it it would show exactly the key you need to edit in the status bar.   We are trying to configure JBoss 5.1.0 to be as lightweight and as secure as possible. One of the parts of this process is to identify and close any ports we do not need. Three ports that we have outstanding but don't believe we need are: 4457 - bisocket 4712 - JBossTS Recovery Manager 4713 - JBossTS Transaction Status Manager We don't think we need any of these features (but could be wrong). Bisocket seems to be a way for JMS clients behind a firewall to communicate with JBoss. We hardly use JMS now and when we do, it is very unlikely that we will need this firewall traversing ability. I am less sure about whether we need the two JBossTS ports - I am guessing these are used in a clustered environment - we aren't clustered. So my question is, how do we disable these ports (and associated processes where possible), or if we need these ports, why do we need to keep them open?

• Problems with connecting to wireless network on windows 7

  I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 (Home premium) 64 bit edition installed on it. I use a Wi-Fi router to browse the net. My problem is, I lose the network connection every 10 minutes or so. The network icon on the system tray shows the refresh icon and the status as "identifying network". The network is fine and works fine with my phone. I saw on the net this may be caused if I have enabled IPv6, so I disabled it but still problem persists. When I look at the event log I see the following entries: "Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0xXXXXXXXX. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server." I have also installed VirtualBox(32 bit edition) on the laptop. Does anybody any solution to this?

  What would the filter expression be to just select the protocols where the protocol = TLSV1? Something obvious like protocol == "TLSV1" or TCP.protocol == "TLSV1" is apparently not the right way. ip.proto == "TLSV1" says "ip.proto cannot accept strings as values" Update - additional tips: Another great but hidden search is on PacketLength: You can add packet length to your display by clicking "Edit Preferences" (menu or icon), and adding the PacketLength as a new column, but to filter on it you have to use the more cryptic: frame.len == ### where ### is your desired number. We were using this to determine how many packets had been sent and/or received, when you filter, the status-bar at the bottom of the screen shows the number of items matching the filter.

• PDF download hanging from server with Firefox/Chrome

  I have a Windows 2008 R2 (virtual) server running a number of websites. My client has uploaded several PDFs by FTP to a download directory from where they can be retrieved via a web page. This works fine in IE and Safari, but when attempting to download with Firefox or Chrome both browsers hang and Firefox posts 'stopped' in the status bar at the bottom of the page. We've tried this on several PCs at different locations so I think this is a server problem. Why would this be? Is there some configuration setting I need to change?

  Essentially, lock manager stops responding (lockd/nfslock), but shows as running as a kernel process. If I bounce portmap and nfslock, it has no effect. Doesn't show up in the portmapper registered services rpcinfo -p .. doesn't show nlockmgr. it just shows portmapper and status If I manually remount the drives, it fixes the issue. I'm assuming that the service (lockd) goes stale or hangs when there is no NFS activity? It seems like issuing a mount for NFS volumes "awakens" it and things work once that happens. Please help me nail this down for point me to somewhere to get more information on what might be happening. • How long is the Windows 8 activation period if I do not connect to the internet?

I installed Windows 8 Consumer Retail and was not connected to the internet, and remain unconnected so it cannot automatically activate. How long can I use Windows 8 this way (never connected to the internet) and without activating the license? I want documentation links, not just an answer you think is true or read somewhere, back up any statements with clear documentation please. Answers related to Vista-W7 activation or commands used in Vista-W7 to check license status are not acceptable as Microsoft completely changed activation technologies for windows 8.

• Getting the keyboard working on a MacBook under Windows XP x64

  Despite Windows XP Professional x64's unsupported status on MacBooks (model A1181), I've managed to get most of the hardware working by manually installing either the drivers on the OS X Snow Leopard CD, or finding the appropriate drivers online. However, even after installing the Apple keyboard driver from the CD, I can't get Windows to actually use the special driver. Instead, the keyboard just shows up as a generic USB keyboard, with non-functioning Fn and other special keys. Being unable to generate a right-click or Ctrl-Alt-Del makes Windows a bit of a challenge to use. I've tried: uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver removing the keyboard under device manager and letting Windows re-detect it using device manager to manually update the driver How do I get the special functions of the MacBook keyboard working under XP x64?

• Windows log file monitor that supports custom events (eg. sending an email when it detects the string "ERROR")

  I know this question has been asked several times before but I can't seem to find a solution for my requirements. I currently use BareTail, which works wonderfully except that it doesn't support custom events besides line highlighting. I'm also trying TailForWin32. It has a SMTP plugin but it seems to be in beta status, and the highlighting seems limited. It also doesn't handle rolling log files very well (a blocking dialog box pops up, whereas BareTail just rolls over naturally). All I really need is something like BareTail that supports custom events. First prize would be a tool with a plugin-based architecture so I can use my own messaging plugins, but anything that supports SMTP mail would be fine as well.

  I have postfix set-up on my Debian VPS, I can: send emails receive emails on my server But forwarding emails from my server to gmail does not work! I configured google's DNS through /etc/resolv.conf I can ping google.com and with dig I also find gmail MX records. But when my server tries to forward email to gmail (setup with /etc/aliases) I get the following error: postfix/smtp[20280]: 825E117BA8A80: to=<[email protected]>, orig_to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=40, delays=0/0.01/40/0, dsn=4.4.3, status=deferred (Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=gmail.com type=MX: Host not found, try again) What am I missing? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

• Question about getting information off an old HD...

  Ok so my old cpu was a sony vaio. its kinda old and had xp on it. My gf thrashed it - the cd drive went and she tried fixing it by messing with the configurations bios etc. the actual laptop is really fried the keyboard doesnt work, etc. However the harddrive is still intact. I tried putting the HD in my new cpu (toshiba runnig win7) and it looks like its gonna boot up it goes to the screen with the logo and the status bar starts to load. then it flashes a blue screen for a split second, and goes to the black screen where it says windows did not shut down properly and gives options to (start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with prompts) ive tried every option but it always goes back to this screen. I need to get into the hd cuz i have very important files. is there anyway?

  The "screen" refers to a program mentioned in How to reconnect to a disconnected ssh session . That is a good facility. But there is a question I'd really like to know. How do I know whether I'm running inside a "screen"? The difference is: If yes, I know I can safely close current terminal window, e.g., close a PuTTY window, without losing my shell(Bash etc) session. If no, I know I have to take care of any pending works before I close the terminal window. Better, I'd like this status to be displayed in PS1 prompt so that I can see it any time automatically.

  I have installed postfix with dovecot and postfix admin and all seemed well at the beginning. I can log in with thunderbird and check the mailboxes (all empty now) and TRY to send mail, even TLS works. The problem comes when I try to send mail. Where should I change this behaviour?

• Chrome sending of packets to random destinations upon reconnect/disconnect

  Noticed an interesting thing whilst debugging one of my websocket applications that Google Chrome will push out 3 http requests upon a network connection status changing; Quite disconcerting and looks almost as if some malware is checking out to a random server. I don't quite understand the why though since they all return a 502 or have no response code at all since the destination does not exist. On Disconnect: Reconnect: I guess the main question is this normal and what the use is; howcome they wouldn't go for a dns lookup that actually exists?
