  • Converting items in Visual Studio project from "links" to copied files

    - by Alan Mendelevich
Hi, I have a Visual Studio (2008) project where I have some files added as links (through Add Existing Item-Add As Link). Suppose I want to copy this project somewhere else (give it to another developer, release source code, etc.) and I would like to "convert" all these links to actual copies of these files. Is this possible? How can I do this in VS or is there some 3rd party utility to do that? Thanks.

  • Visual Studio highlighting source code in bold

    - by widgisoft
While editing HTML/ASPX/ASCX etc; whenever I select an html tag, visual studio highlights the entire tag in black and bold; the black I'm not so fussed about but the bold changes the length of the line and really messes up the formatting. Is there a way to disable this? Thanks, Chris

  • Visual Studio appears to randomly adopt american keyboard layout

    - by HollyStyles
Gah! this is really causing me hassle today. Suddenly without warning '@' (at symbol) and '"' (double quote) are trading places on my keyboard but ONLY in Visual Studio 2008 !!! I can't seem to find anything in help or online to explain/remedy this. Is there some keyboard shortcut I am inadvertantly executing?? I rebooted my PC and it went away for an hour or two and then suddenly came back. Oh the insanity :(

  • AST generation for a an application developed both in visual basic and c#

    - by Dev
Hi, I'm currently understanding one application developed both in visual basic and c#. Running through the code is getting tough as code is around 50KLOC. So i'm planning for generation of AST (abstract syntax tree). Will it be possible to generate for both language together. Atleast a call graph generation will be helpful (but can't find any tool which works for both languages) Please let me know if this question is confusing. Thanks in Advance Dev

  • How to install Visual Studio 2008 after Visual Studio 2010 without harming anything?

    - by Ivan
After full fresh Windows XP system reinstallation, I've installed SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010. Soon I've found that I also have some very handicapped version of VS 2008 IDE installed as a part of VS2010 or SQLServer. At the same time there are a lot of interesting projects on the Web still targeting VS2008. Can I install a full-featured VS 2008 now, without it breaking something (for example by replacing some files with older versions)?

  • Extending Visual Studio with a Custom Designer

    - by Mick
How do I create a custom Visual Studio 2008 UI designer for a C# file? For example, when you double click on a DataSet in the Solution Explorer, a UI screen appears that allows you to edit the DataSet, even though it is defined in XML/code (which you can right click and "View Code"). Usually this code is separated from user code in some way, either by region ("Windows Forms Designer Generated Code"), by codegen (".g.cs" for WPF XAML files), or some other means like partial classes.

  • Green part in Visual Studio 2010

    - by Braveyard
I am wondering what these greens things are in Visual Studio 2010. What are they for? They look pretty random but of course they have to have some meaning. Can any one tell me? At first glance they don't mean any thing to me. Picture 1: Picture 2:

  • Is Python a beginner language or is it robust?

    - by orokusaki
I am already working on some software in Python but I'm having one of those days where I step back and reflect just to make sure I'm not spinning my wheels. I know that Twitter launched with RoR because it was fast to build. Then they almost moved into another language in 2008 because of scalability issues. This has caused me to step back and introspect for a moment to make sure I'm heading down the right path. I've read in some tutorials and other places that Python is "a great first language" or a "nice beginner language" as though it's not capable of larger tasks. I look at it as Python can do what Java or ASP can but with about 1/4th of the code, not to mention I don't have to build or compile, etc. I've read that Java runs quite a few times faster than Python which is important of course, but then I read everywhere that hardware keeps getting cheaper and there are projects like Unladen Swallow by Google to make Python faster. Should I be concerned or is this just the remnants of Java developers?

  • DLL with the same reference name in visual studio

    - by Lily
Hi, I am using Visual Studio for a project and Drools.NET and Proxem Antelope both use a DLL IKVM.Runtime but they're both different versions. Thus I do not know what I'm supposed to do to accommodate both of these. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! Error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. The problem is that they both have the same name

  • Issue building C++ DLL with Visual Studio 2010

    - by Jon Tackabury
I have a very simple DLL written in unmanaged C++ that I access from my application. I recently switch to Visual Studio 2010, and the DLL went from 55k down to 35k with no code changes, and now it will no longer load in Windows 2000. I didn't change any code or compiler settings. I have my defines setup for 0x0500, which should include Windows 2000 support. Has anyone else run into this, or have any ideas of what I can do?

  • Change default browser in Visual Studio 2010 RC

    - by thelsdj
In Visual Studio 2010 (RC) there is no longer a "browse with" context menu when right clicking .aspx pages. How can you change the default browser now? By default it seems to use the operating system default browser, but I would prefer to use IE when debugging ASP.net apps. (I am testing this with ASP.net MVC 2)

  • How do I get the path of the current executed file in python?

    - by Sorin Sbarnea
This may seam a newbie question but it is not. It looks that common approaches are not always working: Currently I know only two options but none of them looks to work an all cases. sys.argv[0] This means using path = os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(sys.argv[0])) but this does not work if you are running from another python script from another directory, and this can really happen in real life. __file__ this means that path = os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__)) but I found that this doesn't work: py2exe that doesn't have a __file__ attribute but there is an workaround. when you run from IDLE with execute() there is no __file__ attribute OS X 10.6 where I get NameError: global name '__file__' is not defined Related questions with incomplete answers: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1296501/python-find-path-to-file-being-run http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1483827/python-path-to-current-file-depends-on-how-i-execute-the-program http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2259503/how-to-know-the-path-of-the-running-script-in-python http://stackoverflow.com/questions/509742/python-chdir-to-dir-the-py-script-is-in
