• How can I avoid causing memory leaks in Firefox?

  It seems that there is a lot of information on memory leaks in IE and how web developers can avoid them, but I can't find much on avoiding leaks in FF. I've found lots of random tips on how end users can tweak their preferences, or tips for extension developers, but little on what I can do as a web developer to make sure my pages don't leak. Am I missing something? It seems lazy to just blame it on the user and say "you've got too many extensions". Or are the major patterns the same as in IE -- circular references and all that? Also, if anyone knows of any tools to troubleshoot leaks in FF, that would be great. • Track each URL and Parameters sent from Form

  Simple question really for anyone who's been through this: I have a form that I'm placing on a site. This form submits some parameters to a site which then sends some parameters using "GET" to another site, which then opens the third site. Now the first 2 sites pass so quickly that I can not see what parameters were passed using the URL. I can do a manual check using source code but its too long and complex. I just need a simple tool or hint or firefox addon on how to track every single URL (wven if it has a META redirect) so I can read parameters being sent via the form. Thanks

• DB management for Heroku apps

  Hi all, I'm fairly new to both Rails and Heroku but I'm seriously thinking of using it as a platform to deploy my Ruby/Rails applications. I want to use all the power of Heroku, so I prefer the "embedded" PostgreSQL managed by Heroku instead of the addon for Amazon RDS for MySQL, but I'm not so confident without the possibility to access my data in a SQL client... I know that in a well made app you have no need to access DB, but there are some situations (add rows to a config table, see data not mapped in a view, update some columns for debugging issues, performance monitoring, running queries for reporting, etc.) when this can be good... How do you solve this problem? What's you experience in a real life app powered by Heroku? Thanks!

The feed urls have to be added by hand tipically with the copy/paste method, and I don't like this option because is poor for the users. My question is: can I do like in webpage http://feeds2.feedburner.com/microsiervos a list of web applications (Google Reader, Netvibes, etc.). There is a way to do so? I may have to create a firefox addon? I'm quite lost, I think... • Debugging PHP in Aptana 2.0

  I'm a real newbie when it comes to PHP debugging so forgive my stupidity. I have a simple html form that submits to a PHP script and I want to debug that script and see what's being sent from the form. My Aptana has two two PHP interpreters installed; Zend Debugger on port 10001 and XDebug on 9000 I have the Firefox Aptana Addon installed I have my HTML page on the following url, running locally; http://3i/latest.html In the IDE I open the PHP script and add some breakpoints, I then open the latest.html and I click on the debug button. It launches the HTML page in a local webserver running at; http://127.0.0.1:8000/3i/latest.html I then fill out the form and submit at which point the debugger tells me the JS Debugger has terminated but it doesn't stop at my break points. I've had a good read around and I can't find anything which helps me, which makes me think it's something pretty easy and I'm being a bit dumb.

  I'm a Blackberry fan and I have been aching to get a phone with a better UI (and not the jesusPhone). I was looking at the Android platform and find it quite fun to play with. However, one of the crucial elements of my BB that I love to death is the global inbox of all my email accounts. (not to mention the BB messenger, but I can live without that). Is there an addon or does the android have this feature natively? I played with my friend's Verizon Droid, and she couldn't tell me. Thanks!

• How to connect these together?

  I've got a mysql database created by phpMyAdmin and I want to use it in my Qt project. I tried it on Visual Studio 2010 with an qt addon but it didn't work neither. In Qt Creator, I add: QT += sql in a .pro file and include: #include <QSqlDatabase> in the main file but there's a driver error. I don't know even where to start and each google page shows something different. I tried to look for some guide but there is nothing which concerns everything in []s.

• Add Artistic Effects to Your Pictures in Office 2010

To insert a picture into your Office document, click the Picture button on the Insert tab. Once you import your picture, the Picture Tools format ribbon should be active. • Blank desktop after updates today, only unity2d works now [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears I have been using 12.04 (wubi) since a week now and this is my 1st exposure to linux. Everything was going on fine till now , but today as soon as I updated through the update manager , docky gave a message that compositing is required or something, and i got an error window which asked me to report the error and then the update manager asked me to reboot. After rebooting , i just get a blank desktop screen , no launcher, no toolbar. I have to restart with the power key. However if i login through Unity 2d everything is fine except the benefits of the 3d environment. I guess something got messed up after the update and i cant figure out which program or file caused this mess. I would highly appreciate if someone could help me out with this as I really liked working on ubuntu after windows 7. Thanks! SOLVED-- Thanks @jrg for the link provided.. it helped me to come out of this mess. Actually some update of compizconfig made the unity plugin inactive did something to the Animation add ons , the one which you use for the burn effect etc. What i did was : On the blank desktop Pressed keys Ctrl + Alt + T to bring up the terminal and typed ccsm This brought up the compiz config system manager, there i enabled the unity plugin and rebooted. Everything started working fine. But then again when i started the addons plugin ,everything went back to square one.. :( . This time pressing Ctrl + Alt + T also did not help. Then i tried Ctrl + Alt + F1 , it brought up a terminal or whatever u call it, and then i typed unity --reset , it did some resetting and in the end it showed some comositing done , I pressed Ctrl + Alt + F7 to come back to the desktop , and here it was , my old sweet desktop.. it had the animation effects too like wobbly windows, excepting the addons like the burn effect, i guess something got wrong with the last update of that addon plugin and now whenever i try turning that on , everything goes poof!! 6 hours wasted , but i guess i learnt something new.. not bad for an orthodontist i guess :))

• Smart Array P400 - Accelerator Replacement Battery Failure

  TL;DR - Is the immediate failure of a replacement battery, for a failed battery, on a battery backed accelerator for a Smart Array P400 controller a common occurrence? Or are we likely to have an storage controller with an impending and critical fault? We have a slightly confusing situation with a Smart Array P400 storage controller with the 512mb battery backed accelerator addon on an HP DL380 server. The storage controller is (afaik) running the latest firmware and driver: Model: Smart Array P400 Controller Status: OK Firmware Version: 7.24 Serial Number: *snip* Rebuild Priority: Medium Expand Priority: Medium Number Of Ports: 2 The storage diagnostic (both on the both boot-up screen for the controller and within the 'Management Homepage' and the 'HP Array Diagnostic Utility') recently starting showing the following status a fault for the battery for the accelerator: Accelerator Status: Temporarily Disabled Error Code: Cache Disabled Low Batteries Serial Number: *snip* Total Memory: 524288 KB Read Cache: 25% Write Cache: 75% Battery Status: Failed Read Errors: 0 Write Errors: 0 We replaced the battery with a new unit (a visual inspection of the P400 card showing nothing unusual) and saw the same fault - but expected this to disappear over the course of a few hours/days as it charged. This didn't happy, and the fault status remains the same as above. Given the battery is a genuine part from HP, I wouldn't have expected a replacement battery to fail straight away, or to be dead-on-arrival (is that naivety on my part?). Is the immediate failure of a replacement battery, for a failed battery, on a battery backed accelerator a common occurrence? Or are we likely to have an storage controller with an impending and critical fault? Is there any diagnostic that could tell me more about the failed battery, without cracking the server open again? • IPCop Packet Mangling

  I've found myself in a pickle replacing an old firewall for a client this afternoon. I'm configuring their new IPCop firewall (1.4.21), Zerina OpenVPN addon is installed. What I need to do: There are three network interfaces, currently set up as red (WAN), green (LAN, 192.168.20.0/24) and orange (remote network 10.1.20.0/24). The orange interface is a direct fiber link to another organization. Simple description: Traffic and networks appear to be properly configured at this point, but I have many (150+) specific IPs on the LAN which, when accessing the resources on the 10.1.20.x network, need to be mangled to appear to be coming from the 10.1.20.0/24 network (and return traffic properly delivered). The routing on the far side was configured earlier and should be fine, but I need to redirect any packets coming across destined for those IPs to end up at their proper destination. The addressing is fixed and predictable (ie. 192.168.20.125 - 10.1.20.125). I need to insert whatever rules I have into the IPCop ruleset through /etc/rc.local I know, I'm just not sure about how I should structure this. There's CUSTOMOUTPUT and CUSTOMINPUT targets, both which currently just consist of the single rule redirecting packets to the OVPNOUTPUT/OVPNINPUT targets, so I'm guessing I should insert a rule matching outbound packets destined for the 10.1.20.x network and redirecting to a new target (maybe called TO-ORANGE) and a rule at the top of CUSTOMINPUT which redirects to a FROM-ORANGE target. Under those targets, I would have rules which do the IP matching and mangling. Am I approaching this right? If so, I'm not very familiar with mangle, and would appreciate seeing examples of how to write that source-IP rewrite. If not, how would you suggest doing this? TIA! edit: I notice additionally that the nat table has CUSTOMPREROUTING and CUSTOMPOSTROUTING targets, I guess I could alternatively post the rules in there....

• You need to format the disk in drive

  I was copying some files over to my external hard disk and suddenly a message popped up saying that some file was open and it could not continue.It asks me whether I want to cancel the operation and I said cancel(The other operation was continue.) After that whenever I plug in the usb into the same computer it does not work. It keeps saying that I need to format the disk to continue. Luckily for me it opened on another computer and am backing up all my data. But now I am wondering why exactly this happened. Is it that the hard disk is weak. Also as an addon I currently use http://www.dtidata.com/windowssurfacescanner/ program to check for bad sectors. Is this the recommended way or is there some other better more reliable way to check if my hard disk is failing? Also could the above problem be because the hard disk is failing? If not why does it happen.Even if the hard disk is interrupted in the middle of a read write cycle doesnt there exist error handling code to enable gracefull recovery?

• Updating a backup image (.wim and/or Acronis .tib)

  Anyways, I've got a Windows 7 installation that I want to make a generalized backup image of so I can use it for future installs on not only my desktop from which the image is to be derived from, but also other systems with dissimilar hardware. Therefore I've arrived at either 2 options, using either sysprep/imagx from WAIK (guide here), or the simpler Acronis True Image w/ their Universal Restore addon. Of course, they create distinct image file types, .wim and .tib respectively. What I'd like to do is to periodically update this image, say with Windows Updates, by booting it to either a physical partition or using virtualization (VirtualBox/VMWare), perform the updates, and save the updated .wim or .tib image file again. What's the simplest way I could do this? Another question is, I created this generalized backup image on a 500GB Seagate 7200RPM HDD. Say I get an SSD as an OS drive in the future, can I just deploy this backup image to the SSD normally, or are there any potential problems to be aware/avoid (ie. is it best to completely reinstall the OS on the SSD from scratch, or can I use the image created on the normal HDD with no issue)? • Problem IIS 7.0 Locking files durring upload

  I am running a server 2008 with iis7 and the ftp addon on to iis 7.0 I have the ftp site configured and mostly working Except that about 70% of the time when transferring a file the upload will hang forever. If I disconnect the ftp client and reconnect and try to upload the same file I will get an error on the client saying the file is locked. I have to restart the ftp service to clear the lock. I fired up process explorer and did a search on the file in question and sure enough the ftp service has a lock on the file and it takes around 20 minutes to release the lock on its own (and sometimes longer). This lock stays around even after I disconnect the client. Like I said this only happens about 70% of the time, the other 30% of the time it goes through just fine. Things i have verified. -Not a firewall issue. Server is using passive port range 8000-9000 which is allowed on the firewall. -Not a nat issue, server has a globally rout-able ip address -all recommended/required updates installed I have 5 other servers in a very similar configuration and this is the only one i have problems with.

• Windows 2008 64bit: applications and explorer always hang

  I setup a couple of Window 2008 64bit systems about 5 months ago. Initially all seemed well. Now however, for no apparent reason, things are dog slow, apps hang, explorer hangs, just clicking on something can cause a CPU spike of 100%, and often it's explorer that is eating it up. As I have two on identical hardware, and they experience the same problem, it doesn't seem related to addon software. The only thing these have in common is Kaspersky and I've tried disabling/uninstalling to no avail. There are no useful error messages in the event logs. Actually, the system never even reports app hangs. Sometimes, it similar to what I've seen on Windows 7 systems where the screen goes milky and asks if I want to trouble shoot, that's only when get impatient and click happy. The really odd thing, is that it will NOT do this for a few minutes at a time, and then starts up again. Like I will click on the start menu and browse for the Admin Tools, the start menu will hang at some point and I'll have to wait about a minute, then it's OK. The next time I do this, a few seconds later, it's fine. Every click seems to hang the first time around, then be ok the second time if I do the exact same thing. If anyone has any suggestions, please PLEASE let me know! thanks =)

• Resuming downloads in Firefox

  Unfortunately, Firefox still has failed to add the option to resume downloads. I've ran into this problem SO MANY times, and in my previous searches I found posts saying Firefox was going to fix that. As of 3.6.3 they haven't. I just tried Free Download Manager (FDM), again, having the Firefox addon Flashgot use it. The download gets passed to FDM, and fails, giving the error message "access denied, invalid username or password." No password was required. The site I'm trying to get the file from is turbobit.net, which limits downloads speeds to 100kb/sec, and has a 59 second countdown before you get the link. I guess it's transparently using a password on their end. If I just download normally (save to disk) the download starts fine, but it fails after 30 minutes to 1 hour (always different), and my Wi-fi connection will stop briefly - and I have to start all over. So I will never be able to download a large file. I also tried DTA instead of FMD with Flashgot, and I get an "access denied" message in DTA. Again, I reloaded - waited the 59 seconds, and download w/Firefox, and the download starts fine. The failure message in the Firefox Downloads window is "source file at http... could not be read." Any help would be greatly appreciated. When is Firefox going to finally add the ability to resume downloads????? Is there some other software I haven't found using Google that will work?

• Windows 7 search does not return results from indexed folders

  I am experiencing this issue over and over again and I just cannot seem to find the answer. It doesn't make sense, but search simply does not return results from folders that certainly have these files inside. It's weird that this technology exists for more than 5 years now (it could be added to Windows XP as an addon), and they still haven't got it right. My folder contains 10 image files with .png extensions. Two scenarios: Scenario 1: I exclude the folder using Indexing options. Search works. Scenario 2: I turn on indexing for this folder. Search does not work. Of course, Agent Ransack returns results every time. When I check Advanced options for the Indexing options inside control panel, .png files are checked in the File Types tab, using the "File Properties filter". What's the deal with this? [Edit] To clarify, this doesn't happen with all folders, but does with more than one. For the "problematic" folders, even *.* doesn't return a single result. I found some advice to clear the archive and readonly attributes for all files (doesn't make sense, but hey), but it didn't work. Indexing status in Control panel is: Indexing complete. 100,000 items indexed. Folder is included in the list. • Looking for ballpark pricing on an affordable a Cisco VOIP solution for our office

  We have about 8 incoming PSTN lines that are currently on an old and antiquated Nortel Meridian ICS system. This system has been giving us some grief. We're looking for a new VOIP solution. I've been looking at a Cisco solution and it does seem pricey but I'm sure effective. Unfortunately, we probably can't afford a Cisco Unified Communications 520 which seems to be the ideal solution. We have about 15 people who need an extension and voicemail. We really don't have any need for a fancy system just an auto attendant of some sort when people call us. It looks like we'll have to get an older router and an addon card for what we're looking for to get best value pricing. However, I don't know a a lot about Cisco voice products so I'm a bit lost as to what to get. The only thing I am sure on is the pricing on VOIP phones which we expect to be about ~$100-200. However, I'm not sure what pieces of VOIP infrastructure to get. Any advice? I am familiar with Asterisk but right now I'm looking on pricing concerning a Cisco solution.

• Dual boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.10 across a reboot

  My Setup: I have two separate SSDs, and each contains an independently bootable OS - W8 and U12.10. From my extremely limited knowledge, this means each has a functioning EFI partition(?). My default boot order (GA-Z68XP-UD3P mobo with UEFI firmware update) boots the UEFI partition containing windows first, but if I enter the BIOS I can select the "ubuntu" entry to successfully boot ubuntu. Both drives are GPT, and are EFI boots. What I want to do: Reboot Windows 8, re-enter W8 (this is happening now due to the default boot order). What I want to change, however, is to boot into Ubuntu if i reboot from ubuntu. Essentially, I would like to work within one OS unless I consciously choose otherwise. Normally, I would not even ask to something I thought was impossible, but... Why I think this is possible: When trying EasyBCD to add ubuntu to the W8 UEFI bootloader, I noticed an "iReboot" addon or something that allows you to select which OS to boot into from within the OS. Note that I ended up not using the NeoGrub entry to chain Ubuntu off the W8 bootloader because I couldn't get much help with it. Is this possible? Have I had too much coffee and gone insane? • Some Portions of Computer Running Slow (Specifically Graphics)

  I noticed that a few things are running slow today on my Windows 7 laptop. Specifically, they are: Opening and closing windows takes several seconds for the animation to complete. Windows media player opens fine, but the movies are very laggy MMORPG's, such as RuneScape, are extremely laggy When waking my computer from sleep mode, after entering my password, my desktop takes about 3 seconds to fade in Other than those, everything runs at a normal speed. Things I've done that maybe contributed to this problem: Changed the graphics processor (by plugging in/unplugging the charger) [however, no matter how I change the graphics, I'm still getting this lagginess] Installed AdBlock, a Firefox addon [I recently removed it, and I'm still experiencing this problem] Went into Advanced System Settings, Clicked Settings, and unchecked a few visual things (such as the animation for opening and closing windows) [sure, this got rid of the opening/closing windows lag, but I like that little animation - plus that leaves all the other lag problems I'm experiencing] So, does anyone have any ideas/fixes? If so, please respond. Thank you. Some Other Information: I'm on a HP Pavillion dv7 laptop, 4285 Entertainment PC, with: intel CORE i5 inside, ATI Mobility Radeon Premium Graphics, Microsoft DirectX11 Opening and closing of windows: Defined as opening a program (i.e. Firefox) or closing it by hitting the X in the upper-right hand corner. Lately, the animation for opening and closing windows (which is simply either growing from the icon from the taskbar to fill the screen, or shrinking from the screen down towards the icon on the toolbar.) This problem also occurs for minimizing/maximizing windows. Very laggy movies: defined as .avi movie files saved to My Documents which skips several frames per second and seemingly slows down the movie as a whole Extremely laggy games: I tried RuneScape today, and movement in the game was at least 10x slower than it ever has been, even when playing on the lowest detail/graphics Desktop taking 3 seconds to fade in after sleep: in this scenario, I had no other programs running visibly. The computer generally fades to black from the password screen to the desktop in about 1 second, normally. However, it is now taking 3 or more seconds.

  Feel free to change the question title. I have a VPS with standard LAMP stack and a busy website. Operating system is CentOS 5.5. Virtualization is done with VMWare. My server gets real slow about every 6 hours. Logging into it I see that 1.6GB of RAM is consumed. However, listing the active processes does not explain the problem. Can anyone make any sense of this?
