  I like a lot stackoverflow and I feel it far superior of other forum systems when dealing with questions and answers stuff. Now I get frustrated when asking question on more mainstream topics on basic forum. Someone knows if such a site exists ? Thanks.

• How to disable proxy requests once a server has been added to spammers "open proxy" list?

  Hello all, I've just started in a new company, and have been going over the setup of their Apache webserver conf files... only to find that they've had their apache servers set up as open proxies available to all the world for the last two months. I've already set ProxyRequests Off in the httpd.conf file and restarted the web server, but the access log file is still growing at a horrendous rate (about a gig a day). I noticed that another question was posted on here about this (http://serverfault.com/questions/63715/apache-hit-with-proxy-request), but their access log was supposedly returning 404 errors, while mine appears to be returning 403 and 404 codes... Is this correct? • How do I best remove the unicode characters that XHTML regards as non-valid using php?

  I run a forum designed to support an international mathematics group. I've recently switched it to unicode for better support of international characters. In debugging this conversion, I've discovered that not all unicode characters are considered as valid XHTML (the relevant website appears to be http://www.w3.org/TR/unicode-xml/). One of the steps that the forum software goes through before presenting the posts to the browser is an XHTML validation/sanitisation step. It seems a reasonable idea that at that stage it should remove any unicode characters that XHTML doesn't like. So my question is: Is there a standard (or best) way of doing this in PHP? (The forum is written in PHP, by the way.) I guess that the failsafe would be a simple str_replace (if that's also the best, do I need to do anything extra to make sure it works properly with unicode?) but that would involve me having to go through the XHTML DTD (or the above-referenced W3 page) carefully to figure out what characters to list in the search part of str_replace, so if this is the best way, has someone already done that so that I can steal, err, copy, it? (Incidentally, the character that caused the problem was U+000C, the 'formfeed', which (according to the W3 page) is valid HTML but invalid XHTML!)

The sourced are installed on my local machine and according the documentation https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/content.php/393-User-Registration-Process-Mobile-API This procedure should not be so hard, especially without humanity and COPPA authentication. However I've stacked! • Convert charset in mysql query

  Hi, I have a question about converting charset from inside mysql query. I have a 2 databases. One for the website (joomla), the other for forum (IPB). I am doing query from inside joomla, which by default have "SET NAMES UTF8". I want to query a table inside the forum databases. A table called "ibf_topics". This table has latin1 encoding. I do the following to select anything from the not-utf8 table. //convert connection to handle latin1. $query = "SET NAMES latin1"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); $query = "select id, title from other_database.ibf_topics"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); //read result into an array. //return connection to handle UTF8. $query = "SET NAMES UTF8"; $db->setQuery($query); $db->query(); After that, when I want to use the selected tile, I use the following: echo iconv("CP1256", "UTF-8", $topic['title']) The question is, is there anyway to avoid all this hassle? For now, I can't change forum database to UTF8 and I can't change joomla database to latin1 :S

• Steam not displaying text on wine 1.5 running on Ubuntu 12.04

  Hello fellow dwellers of askubuntu, as the title says I'm having difficulties with getting Steam to run properly. I think I have the solution but I am pretty incompetent with Ubuntu (just started using it the other day) so a step by step process would be unbelievably appreciated! Any useful input is what I'm hoping for but for the brave soul who feels like typing a bit more, perhaps a step-by-step list of instructions starting from downloading Steam off the official website, would be my saving grace. If there is any more info you guys need let me know and I'll of course be happy to oblige!

  At start up after my dell BIOS load i get the puprle screen and then a black screen and this at the top "[9783] Support for cores revisions 0x17 and 0x18 disabled by module... " sorry i think there's more to it and that's probably crucial but it goes SO fast sometimes and sometimes slower... I just wiped my laptop and installed 13.10 over it and ticked LVM at installation and log in automatically, idk if that would make a difference here... • How do I batch rename a specific file inside multiple zip archives via the command line?

  I have about 200+ shareware files in zip format that each contain a file called "FILE_ID.DIZ". I need to know how to rename each instance to lowercase "file_id.diz" without doing it manually - I've already gone that route and it's pretty time consuming. That file has to be lowercase because the BBS program I'm using ignores the FILE_ID.DIZ as a description since it is uppercase. If I manually change it to lowercase, the description is imported successfully. I know that rar has a renaming switch, but then I'd have to batch convert all of the zip files to rar, and then back to zip. I'm not ruling that out entirely, but it seems like the long way around to resolving this. I found the man page for "zip_rename", which looks like it might do the trick, but I have no idea how to actually implement it. I refuse to do this on a Windows machine - I just can't and won't do it... it's the principle ;). Anyway, thanks for your time!

• pfSense with two WANs, routing skype traffic over a specific WAN

  I have a pfSense setup with two WANs (WAN1 and WAN2) and one LAN network. The two WANs are setup for failover. However, QoS has recently been an issue for skype calls in our office place (about 30 people) so we want to dedicate WAN2 for skype traffic (we use skype for all voip calls, etc.) As Skype is notoriously difficult to deal with, does anyone have any suggestions on how I should deal with this?   Hello, I have a setup where I have a folder structre like: / /application /system /forum index.php My ngix configuration: if (!-f $request_filename) { rewrite ^/(.*)$ /index.php/$1 last; } location ~ /index.php { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; include /usr/local/nginx/conf/fastcgi_params; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/index.php; } This setup works correctly and redirects urls to correct controller of codeigniter yet it does also forward www.mydomain.com/forum to codeigniter, which eventually shows a 404 page of CodeIgniter. Does anyone know the correct configuration for my setups? Thank you.

• Looking for the best ec2 setup for 3 sites totaling in 1.5 mil in traffic monthly

  I am looking to consolidate our current aws setup of 2 Large ubuntu ec2 servers and 2 large RDS server for our 3 websites that have a total of about 1.5 million hits a month and increasing every month with the majority of traffic (1 mil) to one forum site in the group and the rest of traffic to an ecommerce site and a small wordpress site. So here is my question/thought? Would it be better for us to combine the two ec2 large servers to just one and same with the 2 RDS servers so we run all three sites off one large ec2 and one RDS. -or- Should we setup maybe 2-3 smaller ec2 servers load balenced and a single RDS. -or- Something completely different setup? One concern is that if one site crashes it takes with it the others. It happened in the past but I am pretty sure its because of the forum software and not the server setup. -john

  While researching ways to prevent CryptoLocker, I saw a forum post that advised using Group Policy Objects (GPO) and/or antivirus software to block run access in the following locations: %appdata% %localappdata% %temp% %UserProfile% Compressed archives Obviously, anything written in a forum should be taken with caution. I do see advantages to do doing this, though, primarily because malware likes to execute out of these locations. Of course, this could impact legitimate programs as well. What are the drawbacks to blocking run access to these locations? What are the advantages?

• Can't log in using sa account for sql server 2008

  I installed SQL Server 2008. During the install I set it to mixed mode authentication and set the password for what I assume is the sa account. In the configuration manager I set tcp/ip and named pipes to enabled. When I open SQL Server Management Studio and try to log in - username: sa, password: whatIjustsetintheinstall, it fails with the error: Login failed for user sa. (error 18456). The error in Event Viewer is - Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: <local machine>]. I know the password is right because I just set it. What am I doing wrong here? Is sa not the right user to be logging in with mixed mode? I've been reading through forum after forum but just cannot find anything that works.

  More and more I see programmers developing web based applications that are based on what I call "ping-then-do" mentality. An example would be the application that pings the mail server before sending the mail. In a rather heated debate in another forum I made this statement, "If you are going to write programs that use the internet, you should at least have a basic idea of the fundamentals. The desire to "ping-then-do" tells me that many who are, don’t." On this forum and at Stack Overflow I see numerous questions about ping / trace route and wonder why? If it is acceptable to have a discussion about it here I would like to hear what others think. If not I assume it will be closed rapidly.

• Is it possible to choose the Amazon Glacier Vault when backing up from Synology NAS?

  I am using Amazon Glacier Backup on a Synology NAS (rackstation). But the Synology backup software for glacier does not allow me to choose the vault to backup to. This means I can not give my own name to the vault, but also I can not backup to a previously created vault (I also have this problem now after replacing a Synology rackstation). Is there any way to choose to which vault you want your Synology to backup to? • How to Setup Ubuntu Mail Server with Google Apps?

  I have a domain, let's call it foobar.com. All of the MX records for foobar.com point to Google's mail servers because I am using Google Apps for your domain to manage it. It's great because everyone gets all the advantages of GMail, but our e-mail addresses aren't @gmail.com. I also have a server. Primarily, it's a web server, but it also serves other things. One of the things it serves is the web site for foobar.com and also sites for various virtual hosts such as shop.foobar.com and forum.foobar.com. The server is running Ubuntu 8.04, because I like using LTS releases in production. The thing is, there are various applications running on the server that need the ability to send out emails. Various applications, like the cron jobs, send me e-mails in case of errors. Some of the web applications need to send e-mail to users when they forget their passwords, to confirm new registered users, etc. Lastly, it's nice to be able to send e-mail from the command line using the mail command, or mutt. How can I setup the mail on the web server to go through the Google apps mail servers? I don't need the web server to receive mail, though that would be cool. I do need it to be able to send mail as any legitimate address @foobar.com. That way the forum application can send mails with [email protected] in the from field, and the ecommerce application will have [email protected] in the from field. Also, by sending the mail through the Google servers, we can avoid a lot of the problems with the e-mails being blocked by various spam filters on the web. Google's SMTP servers are trusted a lot more than mine would be. I'm pretty good with administering Linux systems, but I am absolutely brain dead when it comes to e-mail. I need step by step directions from beginning to end on how to set this up. I need to know every thing to install, and every single change to the configuration files that is necessary. I have tried following various howtos and guides in the past, but none of them were quite right. Either they didn't work at all, or they offered a configuration that is not what I wanted.   Hi, I am migrating from Windows to OS X and looking for a good way to browse zip, rar etc. archives. Ideally, I need a plugin for Finder which will allow me to open archives as folders. Is there one, or any other suitable solution? Preferably free Update As I understand, most of Mac users are using Path Finder app for file management. It is an awesome program, however surprisingly it also doesn't have such functionality. I guess, the problem is in the way of thinking – my Windows-thinking is not applicable to Mac. • Google Chrome passphrase : where is it?

  Every time I do a fresh install, Google Chrome asks me for my passphrase. Have searched high and low in Google's help forum and have yet to receive or find any form of response. When I do a fresh install, if I try to enter the passphrase (with all possible passwords i can recall) nothing works and I can't recover my extensions, bookmarks etc. On the other hand, if I wait a bit, everything falls to place. I close that window asking for passphrase and all my extensions, bookmarks are back. The failure to enter a proper passphrase code gets me a message to change my passphrase in my account settings. Who knows where that is! No one at Google's forum seems to know anything about this "passphrase".
