  • Why can't I change the icon being displayed for a desktop shortcut?

    I wanted to change the icon showing for a shortcut on the desktop, which points to a .Net utility I created for myself. I rebuilt the exe after changing the icon used within the project. In Windows Explorer the new icon shows in all size variations for the exe. In the 'Change Icon' dialog from the Properties option, the correct icon is showing as present, yet when I Apply it remains with the old icon??? Even when I delete the shortcut and create a new one pointing to the newly built exe the old icon somehow is assigned???

  • Asus V1S screen dimming randomly

    I have an Asus V1V, which is the same as the Asus V1S except for the video card. I have a problem where the screen will randomly lose brightness or flicker between being lit and not lit. The picture below is of the left hinge, with the cover removed. Pressing one of these cables affects this behaviour, and pressing it in place will resolve the issue for a few hours. My guess means the inverter cable is damaged, based on previous experience. As the picture shows, there are two cables, an LCD cable and what I assume is an inverter cable. I purchased an LCD cable for my model of laptop, but have been unable to find an inverter cable. It seems not to exist. I would like some input on if an inverter cable actually exists, if it is likely the problem, or solutions in general to resolve this problem permanently.

  • Launching multiple applications with a single command/script/shortcut

    I realized a few days ago that every time I sit down at work, I do a few things after unlocking my computer. First, I open up Firefox, then I open up Chrome, then I log in to Digsby. I realized I could probably save repeating this daily by writing a small batch script to open up Firefox and Chrome , but I couldn't figure out how to make it work.. and since the whole effort is to save time I don't want to bash my head around in the windows command prompt to do it. I also tired this in powershell but ran in to a bunch of security nonsense. Is there a way to do this that I am missing? Bonus points if somebody has figured out how to manipulate Digsby via COM , scripting, or python =)

    SO I am trying to setup a RewriteRule on my server for caching static objects. the files are in this naming scheme /docroot/css/stylesheet.min.css and I have them printed in the code like /docroot/css/stylesheet.min.123438348.css (the number is example it comes from a get modified function). Note docroot is an example directory how can I have the server ignore the numbers and redirect to the stylesheet.min.css I need to do this for every css and js files (/js and /css) as well as one specific spritemap image my current attempt RewriteRule ^/(docroot)/(js|css)/(.+).(min).(.+).(js|css)$ /$1/$2/$3.$4.$6 RewriteRule ^(/docroot/images/spritemap).([0-9]+).(png)$ $1.$3 Update: Now I have the setup like this RewriteEngine on Options FollowSymLinks RewriteRule ^(.+).(min).([0-9]+).(js|css)$ $1.$2.$4 [L] This is rewriting localhost/docroot/css/stylesheet.min.12343242.css to /var/www/html/docroot/trunk/docroot/css/stylesheet.min.css so it is getting the right file how do I get apache to take off the beginning of the that the /var/www/html/docroot/trunk/

  • Time Machine/iMac loses all trace of external hard drive after a few days

    Hey guys, First time posting, also a Mac newbie (recent windows convert) so I'm hoping I can get some help here :) I have a Hitachi Deskstar drive in an external casing that I got from ebuyer. (its one of those unknown fairly cheapish enclosures) connected via firewire. I hook it up and it works fine, but then at some point over the next week or so I'll realise that my last update was 3 days ago or so. At this point the Mac will not recognise the drive as existing and the only thing to do is switch off and on the external enclosure. It then works fine for a while. If I had to guess I'm assuming its powering down or something when the Mac goes into standby? Is there anyway to solve this?

    I have spent half an hour trying to change an icon on my Win-7-64 machine (Why Can't I Change the Icon). One reasonable suggestion (reasonable in terms of having a solution, not reasonable in terms of having to jump through these hoops for such a basic requirement) was to delete the old icon from the %userprofile% \ Local Settings..., however when I click on this folder in Windows Explorer I am told the folder is not accessible - Access Denied. Well! It's my PERSONAL computer isn't it? Isn't that what PC stands for? It's MY computer - why can't I get access to that folder? It's about time we started calling these machines MCs (Microsoft Computer), or WCs (Windows Computer) - because they sure as hell aint PERSONAL damn computers!!!!

    The counter, Process: % Processor Time (sqlservr), is hovering around 300% on one of my database servers. This counter reflects the percent of total time SQL Server spent running on CPU (user mode + privilege mode). The book, Sql Server 2008 Internals and Troubleshooting, says that anything greater than 80% is a problem. How is it possible for that counter to be over 100%?

    How do you implement a multiselect combobox as part of a Ext.FormPanel using ExtJs? I've been looking, but can't seem to find a solution that is compatible with the latest version of ExtJs (this question is similar, but doesn't have a working/current solution).     Hello, all, I'm having trouble implementing my OpenID provider with DNOA 3.4.3. Everything was going absolutely peachy until I needed AX support as well. I set AXFetchAsSregTransform in the web config, as recommended by Andrew at http://groups.google.com/group/dotnetopenid/browse_thread/thread/5629a24c0a7e8d99. Doing this caused me to get the exception "Sequence Contains More Than One Element" on my decide.aspx page, however, and I haven't been able to get past it. The following line is throwing the exception: Edit: Strangely enough, this is not the line throwing the error anymore. The SendResponse() is now triggering the exception ClaimsRequest requestedFields = ProviderEndpoint.PendingRequest.GetExtension(); ProviderEndpoint.SendResponse() Any thoughts on why this may be?   • Automapper: Map an Enum to its [Description] attribute

    I have a source object that looks like this: private class SourceObject { public Enum1 EnumProp1 { get; set; } public Enum2 EnumProp2 { get; set; } } The enums are decorated with a custom [Description] attribute that provides a string representation, and I have an extension method .GetDescription() that returns it. How do I map these enum properties using that extension? I'm trying to map to an object like this: private class DestinationObject { public string Enum1Description { get; set; } public string Enum2Description { get; set; } } I think a custom formatter is my best bet, but I can't figure out how to add the formatter and specify which field to map from at the same time.

My assumption is that the bottle neck is perhaps adding its elements to the DOM since after the first query it seems to be substantially speedier. Does anyone know of a way to pre-load these elements on page load instead of doing it for the first time when the user starts typing?

I made a text rtf using MS word, but there's too much junk rtf codes in it for me to figure it out where to put the \clvmgf and \clvmrg to get this to work. Could someone give me an rtf for above example table with no extraneous rtf codes so I can figure out how \clvmgf and \clvmrg works? Any additional explanation would also be greatly appreciated.     I am working on an application that displays surface winds. Wind speed and direction will be displayed using "wind barb" symbols, as described here: Plotted Winds My question: Are there any standards for the angles and lengths of the "flags" in relation to the the wind-barb "pole"? Eyeballing the diagrams I've seen, I think that an angle of 60 degrees and a flag length about a third as long as the pole length would look fine, but if there are any officially defined standards for these symbols, I'd like to follow them. Note: This app will not be used for navigation, so it is not very important that it look exactly like an official chart. I just don't want it to be ugly, or to look obviously wrong to a knowledgeable user.

    What glBlendFunc should I use to ensure that the opacity of my drawing is always the same? When I use glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA) and multiple images are drawn on top of each other, the result is more and more opaque until it's completely opaque after a certain number of imgaes. The closest I have come is to use glBlendFunc(GL_ONE_MINUS_DST_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA) which maintains a constant opacity no matter how many images are on top of each other, although there is a slight variation in opacity if the images overlap each other. Any other render states I should consider trying? Any other ideas? I am making a drawing app for my kid and I don't want the images (brush) they draw to cover up the background. Heres the closest I've got: I want to have it so that the overlap part of the circles is the same color and opacity as the center part of the circle. I am using cocos2d iphone v. 0.99

    I was writing a program in C++ to find all solutions of a^b = c (a to the power of b), where a, b and c together use all the digits 0-9 exactly once. The program looped over values of a and b, and ran a digit-counting routine each time on a, b and a^b to check if the digits condition was satisfied. However, spurious solutions can be generated when a^b overflows the integer limit. I ended up checking for this using code like: unsigned long b, c, c_test; ... c_test=c*b; // Possible overflow if (c_test/b != c) {/* There has been an overflow*/} else c=c_test; // No overflow Is there a better way of testing for overflow? I know that some chips have an internal flag that is set when overflow occurs, but I've never seen it accessed through C or C++.
