    I want to setup a headless Ubuntu 12.04 machine as a print server. The printer is Canon IR2520 which needs UFRII driver. Printer is connected to the network via Ethernet. After searching a lot about weather printer can be directly accessed as a SMB share, I decided to make Ubuntu server as print server. The Windows clients send the print jobs to the server and the server will send those jobs via Ethernet to the printer. I followed this how-to for installing the driver. The driver compilation fails with the error that gtk 2.0 package is not available. I cannot have gtk on a headless server, it is very necessary that it should not have any graphical/desktop packages. What would be the solution for installing UFRII on Ubuntu 12.04 Server.

  • Realtek HD Audio Driver for Ubuntu 12.04?

    I recently switched to Ubuntu 12.04 on my Toshiba laptop. I haven't had any issues except for one. I realized that there is a red light coming out of my earphone jack. It's something like this: http://i.stack.imgur.com/gokuH.jpg I looked in the folder that Toshiba created for installing drivers , then I found out that they had installed this driver for my sound card : Realtek HD Audio Driver v6.0.1.5689_withMaxxAudio_Compal(20080908) I'm guessing that the sound card supports Optical Audio Output. I also found out that when I mute the speakers, the light goes away. But when I unmute it, it comes back. I don't really mind having it but it drains my battery. So, is there a Ubuntu version for my sound card driver? Thanks in advance.

    I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 on my asus N55SF, which runs nvidia geforce gt 555m and an integrated graphics, via optimus but after installation i found no such thing on ubuntu. i went o nvidia website and installed the driver from there(ver 259.59 i guess) after reboot, i was stuck at 640x480 resolution and my card was still undetected i reinstalled ubuntu but this time i installed bumblebee, but the system settings still shows the graphics as 'unknown' i dont know whether the driver has been installed or not, but from the 'unknown' i figure its not there. when i run sudo nvidia-settings i get this msg "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart the X server." however i can run the settings page by sudo nvidia-settins -c :8 i just want to know why ubuntu hasnt still detected the gpu? is it because bumblebee disables it? and i forgot one v important thing..I AM A NOOB :(

  • X doesn't find nvidia module when installing developer driver

    I just downloaded the developer driver from Nvidia's CUDA Zone. Executed it and typed in restart gdm and the it worked. However after rebooting X didn't come up (xorg log), to fix it I can simply rerun the installer and the restart gdm again. What I don't understand is where it breaks and why X11 doesn't find the module?! I removed all (I think..) of the Nvidia packages which can with Ubuntu 10.10. I've also googled a bit and found some HOWTOs about manually installing the Nvidia driver. However all of them were for an earlier version of Ubuntu. Please do not respond telling me I should use the proprietary Nvidia driver supplied by Ubuntu, because I need the development drivers.

    I've been trying to get my Lexmark x1290 to work on Ubuntu 12.04. According to this post, the z600 driver should work to print, so I downloaded the z600 driver from here and installed it through the Ubuntu Software Center. I plugged in my printer and went to the "Printer" section under System Settings... and followed the wizard to install it. It showed up as "1200-series" but never gave me a choice to choose the driver and when I try to print to it, it pops up a message that it is printing and then that it is done printing, but it is definitely not printing anything. What am I doing wrong here?

  • Fixing Mobility Radeon HD3650 driver in 12.04 LTS

    Okay, I know the subject has been discussed many times, but i dont find any of the instructions working. Most promising guide was here https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx ive also tried https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI because since the driver installation was written on other sites as well, this page included a "patch" file, but since im unaware how to patch installations, im out of luck. If i understand correctly, the patch should fix the driver and eliminate constant error messages. My system is 64bit 12.04 LTS and card is Mobility Radeon HD3650. Usual installation of the driver results in weird display resoulution (1100x something, while it should be 1440x900) and even 3d games did not work. Can anyone give me any more pointers? Much appreciated!

    I have an old system with NVIDIA Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4600]. When running Ubuntu , the nouveau driver loads fine but does not log into Unity with compiz. Instead it logs into Unity-2D. Any idea how to enable 3D/ compiz with the nouveau driver. OS: Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 The nvidia driver is no more available for this graphics card, so have to rely on nouveau. UPDATE: Bug reported on launchpad . See here. There has been no reply as yet to this bug-report - does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Further information, Also, if I use kubuntu desktop, kwin graphics works just fine. But, the users prefer Unity over KDE so I have uninstalled Kubuntu.

    I have been having problems with wireless on Ubuntu 10 and above, Mint 11 and above. The problem is in the driver for the wireless... I can see that there is no driver installed and yet it works but reduced a lot, for example: on windows 7 ultimate 100% on distance of 1 meter (currently running) Mint Cinnamon 15 on same distance 70% when it goes under the 40 % it simply disconnects and than takes a lot of time to connect again I am new to Linux and I don't know anything about programming, yet I love the interface and look of the OS but don't want to reject it for couple of problems. There is, however, a problem with brightness control on laptop, it shows the notification and slider but with no effect The question is: Can somebody explain to me where to download and how to install the ar9285 driver for atheros wireless card laptop acer emachines eme529? or can someone explain this to me only for the LINUX MINT 15 http://www.jrhenkelmann.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=34 because the synaptic's interface is different than of mint 15 I KNOW this is Ubuntu community but the problems persist in all Linux versions

    2 days ego i updated my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to latest updates but i ignored Grub Updating because I thought it will clear my grub settings (I'm so noob!). After restart every things was right, the Ubuntu started normally and every things was working well except graphic which had problem before update. I had the experimental driver before but I changed it to the current-update version. After restart Ubuntu stock on black screen. I tried to reinstall Nvidia driver from recovery but it not worked. Then i used Update Grub in recovery, it not worked too but i see this line on screen at boot: at this time it stops and keyboard not working, but when I push the power button it shows these lines and it will shutdown. OK finally I made it start with older kernel (3.5.0-28-generic). Now how can I keep this kernel or fix Ubuntu to work with new kernel? Should I reinstall Nvidia driver? Which version should I use?

    Recently, I changed my OS kernel from 10.04 to 11.10 (bugs), but after doing it, the video driver for the 8400 GS disappeared (was there in 10.04). I worked out the same procedure I did to install it in 10.04, mainly, sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-current sudo apt-get --purge autoremove sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-current but it didn't work even though the commands seemed to install the driver without problems.     As the title says I have problems with the driver after updating to 12.04. The GUI doesnt start anymore, I only see the terminal. I have googled this for a couple of days now and have tried different things like running commands for update, upgrade and tried to uninstall and re-install the NVIDIA-drivers but with no success. No matter what I do I get this message: "Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 295.40, but this NVIDIA driver component has version 295.49. Please make sure that the kernel and all NVIDIA driver components has the same version." Is there anyway I can fix this from the terminal?

  • What can cause two "identical" setups of IE8 and XP to display things differently?

    This has been baffling me for a while. Of the machines I use in visitting Stack Overflow, two of them are machines with the same setup: Dell with Windows XP with IE8. Since they were issued to me by the same company (one to use in the office, one to use at home), they have identical setups as well. But they display certain page elements differently! One is an Optiplex GX620 desktop, the other is an Inspiron 9100 laptop, but somehow the hardware doesn't seem like something that should be overriding how my browser displays things. Nevertheless, the laptop seems to display things differently than what is expected. Differences have included the following: This issue persisted on the laptop after Jeff fixed it, but was repaired for everyone else and on the Desktop. When viewing Vote Counts on a post, the grey line is left immediately beneath the upvotes but a number-sized white space is below that before the downvotes. On the desktop, it displays properly with the two adjacent and divided by a grey line. Code blocks seem to have a blank line at the end on the laptop. The following image illustrates how the last two elements look on the laptop. So, considering that as far as I can tell, these two setups are identical (I have not messed with any settings and they were both initialized identically as well), what else could be causing the display difference?

    Hi all, My hardware has a problem, from time to time it's sending a "keydown" followed by a "keyup" of event: keydown: None LButton, OemClear 255 keyup: None LButton, OemClear 255 keydown: None LButton, OemClear 255 keyup: None LButton, OemClear 255 It goes like this forever, in Windows. In general it doesn't affect most of the applications, because this key is not printable. I think it's a special function key, like a media key or something. It doesn't do anything. But, in some applications that LISTEN to keydown and keyup, I get undesire and unexpected behaviour. Is there a way to intercept these 2 events in Windows (for all applications, for Windows itself) and make the OS ignore them? This is really important to me, if you can think of any solution, I'd be forever thankful.

    In one of the project, I need to display workflow related tasks in the item display page where the workflow is currently running on. To achieve this, I’d like to add the tasks list view web part and using the connected web part to achieve this.(ID=workflowitemid) However, to make it work I need to unhide the workflowitemid field in the task list, as it is hidden field and also cantogglehidden field is set to false. I need to use reflection to change the cantogglehidden field to true as it only has getter in the API and then I am able to unhide the field. You can download the script here. However, it is not ideal (make your environment not supported by Microsoft) to display tasks this way. Another way to display the related task is to use SharePoint designer solution with List view web part and data source. Here are the steps. 1. Create a new list display form as below 2. Edit the custom display form in advanced mode. 3. Find the PlaceHolderMain contentplace hoder and insert the DataView by choosing the associated workflow tasks list as below 4. Go to the List View Tools >> OPTIONS 5. Create a Parameter called workflowitemId Parameter which retrieve the value from the ID querystring as below 6. Create a filter based on UIVersion = workflowitemId as below ,we are going to change the UIVersion to WorkflowItemId property later as WorkflowItemId is a hidden field and cannot be selected from the wizard. 7. Replace UIVersion with WorkflowItemId in the caml for the XsltListViewWebPart. From: TO 8. Go to the new custom display page at http://yourserver/Lists/aa/CustomDisplayPage.aspx?ID=414, you will see the associated tasks are showing in the page.     When pluging an external HDMI display, it get detected and everything was supposed to be working right out of the box, except that when set the resolution to 1920x1080, the display on HDMI is really poor quality. Playing around with xrandr, when setting resolution at 1680x1050 or below, everything is smooth, when setting 1920x1080 or 1920x1080i, with wide variety of refresh rates, it's the same poor quality display. Unfortunely I can't post an image showing the exactly issue (low reputation). Specifications: Dell Inspiron 14 (Intel HD Graphics) Samsung TA550

  • MacRuby + Interface Builder: How to display, then close, then display a window again

    I'm a complete n00b with MacRuby and Cocoa, though I've got more than a year of Ruby experience, so keep that in mind when answering - I need lots of details and explanation. :) I've set up a simple project that has 2 windows in it, both of which are built with Interface Builder. The first window is a simple list of accounts using a table view. It has a "+" button below the table. When I click the + button, I want to show an "Add New Account" window. I also have an AccountsController < NSWindowController and a AddNewAccountController class, set up as the delegates for these windows, with the appropriate button click methods wired up, and outlets to reference the needed windows. When I click the "+" button in the Accounts window, I have this code fire: @add_account.center @add_account.display @add_account.makeKeyAndOrderFront(nil) @add_account.orderFrontRegardless this works great the first time I click the + button. Everything shows up, I'm able to enter my data and have it bind to my model. however, when I close the add new account form, things start going bad. if I set the add new account window to release on close, then the second time I click the + button, the window will still pop up but it's frozen. i can't click any buttons, enter any data, or even close the form. i assume this is because the form's code has been released, so there is no message loop processing the form... but i'm not entirely sure about this. if i set the add new account window to not release on close, then the second time i click the + button, the window shows up fine and it is usable - but it still has all the data that i had previously entered... it's still bound to my previous Account class instance. what am I doing wrong? what's the correct way to create a new instance of the Add New Account form, create a new Account model, bind that model to the form and show the form, when I click the + button on the Accounts form? ... this is all being done on OSX 10.6.6, 64bit, with XCode 3.2.4
