  • Dynamic query to immediate execute?

    I am using the MSDN Dynamic linq to sql package. It allows using strings for queries. But, the returned type is an IQueryable and not an IQueryable<T>. I do not have the ToList() method. How can I this immediate execute without manually enumerating over the IQueryable? My goal is to databind to the Selecting event on a linqtosql datasource and that throws a datacontext disposed exception. I can set the query as the Datasource on a gridview though. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks. The dynamic linq to sql is the one from the samples that comes with visual studio.

  • C++ pointer to objects

    In C++ do you always have initialize a pointer to an object with the new keyword? Or can you just have this too: MyClass *myclass; myclass->DoSomething(); I thought this was a pointer allocated on the stack instead of the heap, but since objects are normally heap allocated, I think my theory is probably faulty?? Please advice.

    i have a struct with dynamic length [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, Pack = 1)] struct PktAck { public Int32 code; [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPStr)] public string text; } when i'm converting bytes[] to struct by: GCHandle handle = GCHandle.Alloc(value, GCHandleType.Pinned); stru = (T)Marshal.PtrToStructure(handle.AddrOfPinnedObject(), typeof(T)); handle.Free(); i have a error, because size of struct less than size of bytes[] and "string text" is pointer to string... how can i use dynamic strings? or i can use only this: [MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.ByValTStr, SizeConst = 32)]

  • Retaining objects in game iphone

    Hello - I am trying to create a game and have run into what is probably a pretty easy problem to solve. As the player goes through the game, many objects (Vehicle) will be added and removed. The Vehicles get added to an array called currentVehiclesMutableArray. My problem is I cant figure out how to retain a Vehicle so that it remains in the array until I am finished with it.

  • C# Passing objects and list of objects by reference

    I have a delegate that modifies an object. I pass an object to the delegate from a calling method, however the calling method does not pickup these changes. The same code works if I pass a List as the object. I thought all objects were passed by reference so any modifications would be reflected in the calling method?   • What are best practices when switching between projects/coming back to projects frequently?

    The nature of my job is that I have to switch back and forth between projects every few weeks. I find that one of the biggest impediments to my productivity is the ramp-up time to getting all the relevant pieces of code "back in my head" again after not seeing it for a period. This happens to a smaller and larger extent for briefer breaks / longer breaks. Obviously, good design, documentation, commenting, and physical structure all help with this (not to mention switching between projects as infrequently as possible). But I'm wondering if there are practices/tools that I may be missing out on. What are your specific practices for improving on this?

  • Oracle collaborates with leading IT vendors on Cloud Management Standards

    During the last couple of days, two key specifications for cloud management standards have been announced. Oracle collaborated with leading technology vendors from the IT industry on both of these cloud management specifications. One of the specifications focuses "Infrastructure as a Service" ( IaaS )  cloud service model , while the other specification announced today focuses on "Platform as a Service" ( PaaS ) cloud service model. Earlier today Oracle , CloudBees, Cloudsoft, Huawei, Rackspace, Red Hat, and Software AG   announced the Cloud Application Management for Platforms (CAMP) specification that will be submitted to Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) for development of an industry standard, in an effort to help ensure interoperability for deploying and managing applications across cloud environments.  Typical PaaS architecture - Source : CAMP specification The CAMP specification defines the artifacts and APIs that need to be offered by a PaaS cloud to manage the building, running, administration, monitoring and patching of applications in the cloud. Its purpose is to enable interoperability among self-service interfaces to PaaS clouds by defining artifacts and formats that can be used with any conforming cloud and enable independent vendors to create tools and services that interact with any conforming cloud using the defined interfaces. Cloud vendors can use these interfaces to develop new PaaS offerings that will interact with independently developed tools and components. In a separate cloud standards announcement yesterday, the Distributed Management Task Force ( DMTF ), the organization bringing the IT industry together to collaborate on systems management standards development, validation, promotion and adoption, released the new Cloud Infrastructure Management Interface (CIMI) specification. Oracle collaborated with various technology vendors and industry organizations on this specification. CIMI standardizes interactions between cloud environments to achieve interoperable cloud infrastructure management between service providers and their consumers and developers, enabling users to manage their cloud infrastructure use easily and without complexity. DMTF developed CIMI as a self-service interface for infrastructure clouds ( IaaS focus ) , allowing users to dynamically provision, configure and administer their cloud usage with a high-level interface that greatly simplifies cloud systems management.   • problem with enabling remote management of hyper-v server 2008 r2

    Howdy, I just recently installed hyper-v server 2008 r2 on a dedicated server i have, but i'm having trouble enabling remote management. Running the HVRemote - http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/HVRemote - tool seems to have yielded some positive results, and all tests on the server pass (firewall, permissions, etc), but client-side things are not working. I'm stuck at this step : 5: - Simple query to root\cimv2 WMI namespace FAIL - Simple query failed Cannot perform simple query against root\cimv2 Anyone could help me figure this out? I'm almost giving up and installing XenServer... Thanks

    Which of these two programmers is "better", from a managerial standpoint? The first programmer is Albert. You tell Al to make a system that will pass you the salt at the dinner table. He does it in less than a day. It works fine. The second programmer is Ben. Ben is told to make a program to pass the salt, and after two days, he's still working on it. It will save time in the long run...if you need pepper, ketchup, etc. There isn't any clear indication that there will be a need for this, but it's not improbable. Who's the better programmer to have working under you, as a manager?

    As a programmer, they offered me an upgrade as project manager, but my feeling is that I can have a more effective contribution in a technical role that in one administrative. When should I accept the promotion? Generally speaking, I think that people should do what they love and what they like to do, from the time you are offered a promotion to someone is because he has been doing a great job today, and certainly learn new things in the new position and obviously have a better financial remuneration, but if it really is something you do not like do not good that post.
