  Which languages almost nobody talks about but has some interesting features or concepts? It must satisfy the following 2 criteria: It must have been created in 2000 or later. Ex.: REBOL, Squeak, Oberon, etc. are out. It can't have some fame among programmers. Ex.: Groovy, C#, Scala, Go, Clojure, D, etc are out. The language doesn't need be good or totally implemented. License or platform doesn't matter. The language needs to be new and interesting. I posted a good example of language I wanna know. If you wish TIOBE can be used as reference to measure "fame", but don't cling on it.

• java developer who wants to raise skill level for better career growth [closed]

  I have an experience in Java language and in JEE related Framework for about 5 years. In these 5 years i have worked on Core java, Spring, Hibernate, JPA, Struts 1. Now just to be prepared for the near future, i am thinking to learn some new programming language or some new technology, this will help me out to be a more elligible employee. So my question to you is, which new technology or language should i learn, my target is for next 3 years. So just in case if Java fades out (thought it won't) than i can jump on to this newly learned stuff. Where should i start from ? Should i learn some other language in JVM like Scala, Clojure, Groovy, JRuby ? Or should i learn some altogether different language like Python or Erlang, Perl ? Or new technology which is related to NoSQL, like MongoDB, Hadoop, CouchDB. Or learn few current happening things in market like RoR, Node.js, LessCss or Sass, Coffee Script ?   Grails 1.x allows using external configuration files by setting the grails.config.locations directive. Is there a similar approach available for externalizing the database configuration in Datasource.groovy (without setting up JNDI)?   When I run grails install-dependency, I get this. java.lang.LinkageError: loader constraint violation: loader (instance of <bootloader>) previously initiated loading for a different type with name "org/xml/sax/SAXParseException" What's wrong? • Why does this Grails/HQL query with a JOIN return Lists of pairs of domain classes?

  I'm having trouble figuring out how to do a "join" in Groovy/Grails and the return values I get person = User.get(user.id) def latestPhotosForUser = PhotoOwner.findAll("FROM PhotoOwner AS a, PhotoStorage AS b WHERE (a.owner=:person AND a.photo = b)", [person:person], [max:3]) latestPhotosForUser isn't a list of PhotoOwners. It's a list of [PhotoOwner, PhotoStorage] pairs. Since I'm doing a PhotoOwner.findAll, I would have expected to see only PhotoOwners. Am I doing something wrong, or is this the proper behavior?

• Cleanest way to build an SQL string in Java

  I want to build an SQL string to do database manipulation (updates, deletes, inserts, selects, that sort of thing) - instead of the awful string concat method using millions of "+"'s and quotes which is unreadable at best - there must be a better way. I did think of using MessageFormat - but its supposed to be used for user messages, although I think it would do a reasonable job - but I guess there should be something more aligned to SQL type operations in the java sql libraries. Would Groovy be any good? Any help much appreciated.

The issue I'm trying to solve is how to set a property on a bean based on a radio button before I update it in the database. Is the Form Helper http://www.grails.org/plugin/form-helper plugin the way to go? My code: class myDomainClassSpec extends IntegrationSpec{ ... def 'my test'() { when: ... then: MyDomainClass.find { id == 1 } } ... } This fails, throwing: groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: id for class: grails.gorm.DetachedCriteria If instead I code: MyDomainClass.findAll().find { id == 1 } it works.   Hi, I have a service that contains a map: static Map cargosMap = ['1':'item1','2':'item 2','3':'item 3'] that is returned via a method in the service: static Map getCargos() { [cargosMap] } A controller calls it like this: def mform = { Map cargos = empService.getCargos() [cargos:cargos] } In the gsp, I have the select: <g:select name="cg1" from="${cargos}" /> But I'm getting the exception: Error 500: Executing action ....caused exception: org.codehaus.groovy.runtime.typehandling.GroovyCastException: Cannot cast object ... with class 'java.util.ArrayList' to class 'java.util.Map' Any clues ?
