  Phil Rogers, AMD Corporate Fellow and HSA Foundation President, joined Oracle on stage to discuss Project Sumatra, which was recently approved in the OpenJDK Community. Project Sumatra will explore how Java can be extended to support heterogeneous computing models for improved performance and power consumption.Oracle plans to propose Project Nashorn, a new JavaScript engine for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), later this year in the OpenJDK Community. Oracle expects to enhance Project Nashorn with the support of several other OpenJDK Community contributors, including IBM, Red Hat and Twitter.The OpenJDK Community continues to host the development of the reference implementation of Java SE 8. Et cette édition 2010 s'adresse principalement, pour ne pas pas dire totalement aux développeurs pour iPhone OS. En effet, la toute grosse majorité des sessions et labos sont consacrées à l'iPhone OS et aux framework qu'on retrouve dans l'iPhone SDK Les rares fois où une session concerne Mac OS X, c'est pour expliquer comment configurer XCode, EDI utilisé également pour l'iPhone OS. • Japan Welcomes Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c

  Following Oracle’s grand unveiling of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c at Oracle OpenWorld 2011 in San Francisco, Oracle Japan just completed their launch for the product. Leng Tan, Oracle VP of Products, delivered the keynote with collaboration from a number of key partners in the region. From left to right: Leng Tan, VP of Products, Oracle; Shinyashiki-san, Assistant General Manager, NEC; Fuketa-san, General Manager, HITACHI; Fujii-san, General Manager, Fujitsu; Misawa-san, VP of Alliances, Oracle Japan NEC, Hitachi and Fujitsu have been among Oracle’s most active partners in the Japan region. They have received key awards from Oracle Japan for their efforts. NEC received the partner of the year award for 2010 and 2011. Hitachi received the partner of the year award for Oracle Enterprise Manager in 2011. Fujitsu received awards in the areas of Database and Oracle Exadata in 2011. All three partners were active participants in Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c beta program. According to Hirai-san, the technical lead at the event, there were over 200 attendees. “The event was so well-attended; there was no room to stand.” Said Hirai-san. Hirai-san demonstrating Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c at the Oracle Japan launch Here’s the highlight of the presentations made by the Oracle partners during this launch. NEC has developed an Oracle Enterprise Manager Plug-in for iStorage (NEC SAN Storage product). Additionally, NEC’s WebSAM Invariant Analyzer management tool is now capable of integrating with Oracle Enterprise Manager HITACHI demonstrated monitoring capabilities for Oracle Exadata through Oracle Enterprise Manager in their JP1 system management tool Fujitsu’s Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g adapter for their SystemWalker tool has now been enhanced to work with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Following a very successful launch in Japan, Oracle’s Total Cloud Control road show and additional Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c launches continue in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions. This week Sushil Kumar, VP of Product Strategy and Business Development is scheduled to deliver the keynotes at several cities in India. Also this week, Richard Sarwal, SVP of Products, is scheduled to deliver a keynote at the DOAG conference in Nuremburg, Germany. • Using SAN Fiber Channel network for TCP/IP, possible?

  Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to use the FC-switch (that is used for a SAN) also for TCP/IP traffic. We have servers (virtual machines) that must have a fast network for copying much data. It would be better to use the existing FC network than a slower 1 Gb network. Is this possible?

• How to mount a iSCSI/SAN storage drive to a stable device name (one that can't change on re-connect)?

  We need stable device paths for our Twinstrata SAN drives. Many guides for setting up iSCSI connectors simply say to use a device path like /dev/sda or /dev/sdb. This is far from correct, I doubt that any setup exists that would be happy to have its device name suddenly change (from /dev/sda to /dev/sdb for example). The fix I found was to install multipath and start a multipathd on boot which then provides a stable mapping between the storage's WWID to a device path like this /dev/mapper/firebird_database. This is a method described in the CentOS/RedHat here: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.1/DM_Multipath/setup_procedure.html. This seems a little complicated though. We noticed that it is common to see UUIDs appear in fstab on new installs. So, the question is, why do we need an external program (multipathd) running to provide a stable device mount? Should there be a way to provide the WWID directly in /etc/fstab?

• What is Best storage servers infrastructure ? DAS/NAS/SAN or installing GlusterFS/LUSTER/HDFS/RBDB

  I am trying to design an infrastucture for the project I am working on. It would be somehow a file-sharing/downloading project (like rapidshare) and I would need high storage sizes and good scability, and I would add new storage nodes after my project grows up. I have come up with 3 solutions for my project which are using Luster, GlusterFS, HDFS, RDBD. For start, i would have 2 servers, one server is for glusterfs client + webserver + db server+ a streaming server, and the other server is gluster storage node. (After sometime, i would be adding more node servers, and client servers (dont know how many new client new servers to add, will see later) So, i am thinking to work with glusterfs. But i really wonder that if i have to use high performance servers with high sotrage sizes or avarage/slow servers with high storage sizes? Or nas/das/san solutions are better for glusterfs storage nodes? I might buy a nas and install glusterfs onto it. I would be happy to listen to your recommendations for the server properties (for each clients and nodes) . I really dont know if I really need high amount of ram and good cpus to for the nodes. I am sure i need it for client servers. The files would be streamed as well, so the Automatic file replication is important, thus, my system should work like a cloud, when needed, according to high traffic, the storage nodes should copy the most demanded file to be streamed and would help me to get rid of scability problems and my visitors would able to stream/download those files. Also, i am open to your experiences/thoughts about any good solution. Luster, hdfs, rbdb are the other options and i would be happy to listen to your thoughts here. I would be very very happy to hear back from anyone commented of any words I have used here. Thanks

• CD/DVD drive not mounted when inserted with Disc of any kind

  I just noticed that if a insert a CD or a DVD of any kind, the Drive will start spinning but it will not show the mounted disc. Before it used to ask me what to do with the media inserted. Now it doesn't even do that. I ran in the terminal this code: eject -n and it displays this: " eject: device is `/dev/sr0'" what can I do to get the functionality back on my drive. also ran this command: sudo mount -o ro,unhide,uid=1000 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom but in return i get this: " mount: mount point /mnt/cdrom does not exist" Running Ubuntu 11.10 HERE IS THE HISTORY UNTIL NOW thanks Waltinator: I ran the 'dmesg' but don't know what I'm looking for. Im a newbie on this. The same thing with the 'ls -rlt /var/log' command. • Two Weeks To Go, Still Time to Register

  Yes, it's now only two weeks to the start of the 17th JavaOne conference! This will be my ninth JavaOne, I came fairly late to this event, attending for the first time in 2002.  Since then I've missed two conferences, 2006 for the birth of my son (a reasonable excuse I think) and 2010 for reasons we'll not go into here.  I have quite the collection of show devices, I've still got the WoWee robot, the HTC phone for JavaFX, the programmable pen and the Sharp Zaurus.  The only one I didn't keep was the homePod music player (I wonder why?) JavaOne is a special conference for many reasons, some of which I list here: A great opportunity to catch up on the latest changes in the Java world.  This is not just in terms of the platform, but as much about what people are doing with Java to build new and cool applications. A chance to meet people.  We have these things called BoFs, which stands for "Birds of a Feather", as in "Birds of a feather, flock together".  The idea being to have sessions where people who are interested in the same topic don't just get to listen to a presentation, but get to talk about it.  These sessions are great, but I find that JavaOne is as much about the people I meet in the corridors and the discussions I have there as it is about the sessions I get to attend. Think outside the box.  There are a lot of sessions at JavaOne covering the full gamut of Java technologies and applications.  Clearly going to sessions that relate to your area of interest is great, but attending some of the more esoteric sessions can often spark thoughts and stimulate the imagination to go off and do new and exciting things once you get back. Get the lowdown from the Java community.  Java is as much about community as anything else and there are plenty of events where you can get involved.  The GlassFish party is always popular and for Java Champions and JUG leaders there's a couple of special events too. Not just all hard work.  Oracle knows how to throw a party and the appreciation event will be a great opportunity to mingle with peers in a more relaxed environment.  This year Pearl Jam and Kings of Leon will be playing live.  Add free beer and what more could you want? So there you have it.  Just a few reasons for why you want to attend JavaOne this year.  Oh, and of course I'll be presenting three sessions which is even more reason to go.  As usual I've gone for some mainstream ("Custom Charts" for JavaFX) and some more 'out there' ("Java and the Raspberry Pi" and "Gestural Interfaces for JavaFX").  Once again I'll be providing plenty of demos so more than half my luggage this year will consist of a Kinect, robot arm, Raspberry Pis, gamepad and even an EEG sensor. • Does any Certificate Authority support both SAN and wildcards?

  My basic quandry is that wildcard certificates don't support subdomains of subdomains, nor do they help with alternate domain names. Basically, if my CN is example.com, I want a Subject Alternative Name field that looks roughly like so: DNS:example.com DNS*.example.com DNS:*.beta.example.com DNS:example.net DNS:*.example.net DNS:*.beta.example.net Using a self-signed cert, I verified that the browsers will work just fine with this. Unfortunately, none of the Certificate Authorities that I looked into (Thawte, GoDaddy, Verisign, Digicert) seemed to support both wildcard certs and Subject Alternative Name (sometimes referred to as "Multiple Domain UCC"). I even called up GoDaddy tech support to confirm. Is there a CA (trusted by 99% of browsers) that supports wildcards for the Subject Alternative Name? One little restriction: I'm saddled with Amazon EC2's single Elastic IP per instance limitation. Here are what I see as my backup plans: set up three extra EC2 instances, each configured for a different IP address and cert, and nginx reverse proxy from three of them into the app server(s) introduces latency(?), and even the cheapest EC2 instance isn't that cheap instead of dedicated reverse proxy instances, setup the four or more almost identical EC2 app servers, with nginx using the port to determine which cert to deliver, and use haproxy to distribute the traffic amongst themselves. complicated to configure and manage? I'm not using the cheapest EC2 instance type for my app servers. If I don't need 4+ app servers for the load, it raises the cost. set up an external server (outside of EC2) that doesn't have EC2's Elastic IP address restrictions, setup all of the alternate IP addresses and certificates on that server, and nginx reverse proxy from that server into the EC2 app servers. extra IP addresses are almost free (still need to pay for the server of course), but don't come with the robust "elasticity" that Amazon's Elastic IPs provide. even more latency than in the first scenario. Are these approaches crazy or reasonable? Do you have another one to suggest?

• Windows iScsi software initiator automatic reconnect

  I am using sofware iscsi initiator in windows server 2008 r2 to connect to a san. Everything works fine. But issue is if at time of boot san is not available it's not adding drives. It stays in reconnecting status when san is available. I have to manually disconnect and connect to get it working. How can i make it automatically connect when san is available.

• How to use iSCSI inside HyperV VM?

  I have 2 Dell R710 servers (intended to set up HyperV cluster) and a MD3000i SAN set up: Server1/Server2: NIC 1: connected to company LAN NIC 2: crossover to the other server's NIC 2 NIC 3: crossover to iSCSI port of SAN controller 1 NIC 4: crossover to iSCSI port of SAN controller 2 I have both servers setup as diskless servers with iSCSI boot from SAN without problem. But how can I access iSCSI from within the VM such that I can set up clustering inbetween the VMs? I can ping from the host to the SAN but found that NIC3/4 cannot be used for virtual network in HyperV? What am I doing wrong?

• Flash Player, security: If a URL starts with "http://" will the SWF always be loaded into REMOTE san

  Seems to be a question for a Flash security guru. Suppose we are loading an external SWF movie with MovieClipLoader.loadMovie(url:String) Is it safe to assume that if url starts with "http://", the movie will be loaded in REMOTE sandbox? We need to tell local SWFs from remote ones to close a security hole. If you need the context read on. We have developed a Projector, written in C++ embedding Flash Player ActiveX. Our Flash application runs inside the Projector. Soon we want to give our users a way to create plugins for the application. The plugins are obviously will be SWF movies. The case I'm afraid of is the following. A bad person creates a malicious evil.swf pretending it to be nice plugin for our app. In case evil.swf is loaded from the local file system it is granted an access to the whole MovieClip tree and Projector API, opening C++ file access operations. On the other hand if evil.swf is loaded from the internet, remotely, it will be locked in REMOTE sandbox by Flash security model. Because of this, we need a reliable way to tell local SWF from remote one before loading it. And we must not make a mistake. So again, is it safe to assume that if url begins with "http://", the clip will be loaded inside REMOTE sandbox?
