  • Is there a way to prevent users from adjusting their gamma correction to 'cheat' their way out of a 'dark' area?

    - by Athix
In almost every game I've come across that includes a dark situation designed to change the way a user interacts with the environment, there are always some players who turn up their monitor's gamma correction in order to negate the desired effect. Is there a way to prevent users from adjusting their gamma correction to 'cheat' their way out of a challenge? (the darkness) I'd imagine if you could reliably retrieve the current gamma correction of the user's monitor, you could use that to more or less prevent the advantage it would otherwise grant without causing the normal users any inconvenience.

  • Auditing DDL Changes in SQL Server databases

Even where Source Control isn't being used by developers, it is still possible to automate the process of tracking the changes being made to a database and put those into Source Control, in order to track what changed and when. You can even get an email alert when it happens. With suitable scripting, you can even do it if you don't have direct access to the live database. Grant shows how easy this is with SQL Compare.

  • EC2 Ubuntu - Force instance to use internal IP

    - by Peter
I've just set up a micro instance on EC2 (AMI ID ami-e59ca991). I had hoped to avoid charges for a year as my usage falls well within the bound of the free tier. I have been charged $0.01 for "regional data transfer". I read here that this is because my instance is talking to its self via it's external IP address. From what I've Googled it looks like you can stop the charges by making sure that the instance uses its internal IP address. However, when I ping the hostname of my instance internally (via an ssh session) it resolves to the instances internal IP address. How can I configure my instance so that I do not get these charges? Is it as simple as adding a line to my hosts file? Additionally, is this the real reason for the charge? I'm concerned that I've misunderstood the pricing somewhere. I have Apace and MySQL (with phpmyadmin) running on the machine - could I be being charged for data transfer associated with these (I have only one flat HTML page and I have only logged in via phpmyadmin - I have no data in my database). Edit: Additionally, my user account on MySQL was declared as: grant all privileges on *.* to 'peter'@'localhost'; Should I have instead used the internal hostname for the instance? grant all privileges on *.* to '[email protected]'; Cheers, Pete

  • MySQL remote access not working - Port Close?

    - by dave.zap
I am not able to get a remote connection established to MySQL. From my pc I am able to telnet to 3306 on the existing server, but when I try the same with the new server it hangs for few minutes then returns # mysql -utest3 -h [server ip] -p Enter password: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '[server ip]' (110) Here is some output from the server. # nmap -sT -O localhost -p 3306 ... OS CentOS release 5.8 (Final) mysql 5.5.28 (Remi) Note: Internal connections to mysql work fine. I have disabled IPtables, the box has no other firewall, it runs Apache on port 80 and ssh no problem. Had followed this tutorial - http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-do-i-enable-remote-access-to-mysql-database-server.html I have bound the IP address in my.cnf user=mysql bind-address = [sever ip] port=3306 I even started over by deleting the mysql folder in my datastore and running mysql_install_db --datadir=/DATA/mysql --force Then recreated all the users as per the manual... http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/adding-users.html I have created one test user CREATE USER 'test'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY '[password]'; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'test'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION; FLUSH PRIVILEGES; So all I can see is that the port is not really open. Where else might I look? thanks

  • Failed to connect from slave to master with error "error connecting to master (1045)"

    - by Victor Lin
    I try to setup replication from slave to the master. CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST = 'master', MASTER_PORT = 3306, MASTER_USER = 'repl', MASTER_PASSWORD = 'xxx'; And I did grant privileges to the user on master. I can connect with mysql command from slave machine to the master mysql -h master -u repl -p mysql> show grants; GRANT RELOAD, SUPER, REPLICATION SLAVE, CREATE USER ON *.* TO 'repl'@'xxx' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD 'xxx' mysql> select 1; +---+ | 1 | +---+ | 1 | +---+ 1 row in set (0.04 sec) As you can see, privileges are correct, connection works fine, but however, the connection for replication to master always failed. mysql> show slave status\G *************************** 1. row *************************** Slave_IO_State: Connecting to master Master_Host: master Master_User: repl Master_Port: 3306 Connect_Retry: 60 Master_Log_File: Read_Master_Log_Pos: 4 Relay_Log_File: slave-replay-bin.000002 Relay_Log_Pos: 4 Relay_Master_Log_File: Slave_IO_Running: Connecting Slave_SQL_Running: Yes Replicate_Do_DB: Replicate_Ignore_DB: Replicate_Do_Table: Replicate_Ignore_Table: Replicate_Wild_Do_Table: Replicate_Wild_Ignore_Table: Last_Errno: 0 Last_Error: Skip_Counter: 0 Exec_Master_Log_Pos: 0 Relay_Log_Space: 107 Until_Condition: None Until_Log_File: Until_Log_Pos: 0 Master_SSL_Allowed: No Master_SSL_CA_File: Master_SSL_CA_Path: Master_SSL_Cert: Master_SSL_Cipher: Master_SSL_Key: Seconds_Behind_Master: NULL Master_SSL_Verify_Server_Cert: No Last_IO_Errno: 1045 Last_IO_Error: error connecting to master 'repl@master:3306' - retry-time: 60 retries: 86400 Last_SQL_Errno: 0 Last_SQL_Error: Replicate_Ignore_Server_Ids: Master_Server_Id: 0 1 row in set (0.00 sec) Is this caused by different version of MySQL server? • Cant connect to MySQL server from Java application

    - by RN
This is on VPS\Centos server. The MySQL server is pre configured. I am running the Java application on Tomcat My Java web application is not able to connect to the MySQL server. I get an error - "Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused" I suspect this to be a configuration problem rather than a coding problem- hence I have posted this on ServerFault And yes, The same web-app is able to connect to MySQL on a different linux box This is the URL that I provided to my Java application (note- it assumes default port) url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/pickupgames" My first suspicion was that I am running on a non-default port So I tried to find the port where mySQL server is running I tried every trick mentioned in http://serverfault.com/questions/116100/how-to-check-what-port-mysql-is-running-on But no luck ! SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES LIKE 'PORT'; This shows port 0 netstat -tlnp doesn't show mysql at all /etc/my.cnf It has no port entry telnet localhost 3306 Doesn't connect And in case you are wondering if mysql server is running at all or not It is And I know for sure, because I have been able to login using the mysql command Also # ps -ef|grep 'mysql' root 31839 27662 0 00:49 pts/3 00:00:00 grep mysql root 32452 1 0 Apr02 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables --skip-networking mysql 32504 32452 0 Apr02 ? 00:00:06 /usr/libexec/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --skip-external-locking --socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock --skip-grant-tables --skip-networking Please note the --skip-networking parameter Does this have something to do with the issue ? Any explanation why I cant connect to mysql server on port 3306 by telnet? Or why it docent show up under netstat? Any suggestion on whet I should try next ?

  • Mysql can not resolve hostnames when checking privileges

    - by Fabio
I'm going crazy to solve this. I have a mysql installation (on machine db.example.org) which doesn't resolve a given hostname. I gave privileges using hostnames i.e. GRANT USAGE ON *.* TO 'user'@'host1.example.org' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD 'secret' GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE, INDEX ON `my_database`.* TO 'user'@'host1.example.org' However when I try to connect using mysql -u user -p -h db.example.org I obtain ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'user'@'192.168.11.244' (using password: YES) I already checked for correct name resolution in the dns system: $ dig -x 192.168.11.244 ;; ANSWER SECTION: 244.11.168.192.in-addr.arpa. 68900 IN PTR host1.example.org. I've also checked for skip-name-resolve option in mysql variables in fact if I can access from another machine on the same subnet using hostname privileges. The only difference is that host1.example.org and db.example.org point the same ip on the same machine i.e. both db.example.org and host1.example.org have ip 192.168.11.244. In this way all the applications using that database can use the name db.example.org and we can move the data on other hosts (if needed) just by changing the dns record, leaving the application code unchanged. What should I do to solve this or at least to understand what's happening?
