    I can not get any errors to display on screen on write to a log file.   • Cant access log files in production.

    I was trying to run my application and check for some output on the production.log. However Rails throws this error. Apache log Rails Error: Unable to access log file. Please ensure that /var/www/somefolder/someapp/log/production.log exists and is chmod 0666. The log level has been raised to WARN and the output directed to STDERR until the problem is fixed. I have performed the necessary chmod 666 production.log to make it work but I realized that the file is under root access. So my file permissions are -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 20845 2010-03-18 01:18 production.log Im not sure how to allow Rails to access this file. Im fairly new to managing linux production env so I request you to excuse my ignorance.

Here's how the message shows up in the Event Log, with the HTML "markup", doesn't even handle it: Example 2: Please contact us via <a href="mailto:[email protected]">email</a> or <a href="http://example.com">online</a>. This is how I would like the message to show up, but with "email" and "online" as the link texts: Example 3: Please contact us via email or online.     I have a python script which needs to execute several command line utilities. The stdout output is sometimes used for further processing. In all cases, I want to log the results and raise an exception if an error is detected. I use the following function to achieve this: def execute(cmd, logsink): logsink.log("executing: %s\n" % cmd) popen_obj = subprocess.Popen(\ cmd, shell=True, stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) (stdout, stderr) = popen_obj.communicate() returncode = popen_obj.returncode if (returncode <> 0): logsink.log(" RETURN CODE: %s\n" % str(returncode)) if (len(stdout.strip()) > 0): logsink.log(" STDOUT:\n%s\n" % stdout) if (len(stderr.strip()) > 0): logsink.log(" STDERR:\n%s\n" % stderr) if (returncode <> 0): raise Exception, "execute failed with error output:\n%s" % stderr return stdout "logsink" can be any python object with a log method. I typically use this to forward the logging data to a specific file, or echo it to the console, or both, or something else... This works pretty good, except for three problems where I need more fine-grained control than the communicate() method provides: stdout and stderr output can be interleaved on the console, but the above function logs them separately. This can complicate the interpretation of the log. How do I log stdout and stderr lines interleaved, in the same order as they were output? The above function will only log the command output once the command has completed. This complicates diagnosis of issues when commands get stuck in an infinite loop or take a very long time for some other reason. How do I get the log in real-time, while the command is still executing? If the logs are large, it can get hard to interpret which command generated which output. Is there a way to prefix each line with something (e.g. the first word of the cmd string followed by :).

I know the underlying principle of Big-O notation says that to prove that 2^sqrt(log(n)) is O(n^a), there must exist a positive value c for which c(n^a) = 2^sqrt(log(n)) for all values n = N. c*n^a >= 2^sqrt(log(n)) c >= 2^sqrt(log(n)) / n^a This number will always be positive so long as n 0. I suppose I could make N = 1 just to be safe. c = 2^sqrt(log(n)) / n^a N = 1 c*n^a = 2^sqrt(log(n) <= 2^log(n) for all values of n >= 1 Now, I know this is incorrect, because I could just as easily claim that the function 2^sqrt(log(n)) is O(n)...

As far as I understand does pmvarrun tells the system how many active session (e.g. logins) a user has on the system. I used SQL profiler to monitor sp_replcmds and found sp_replcmds execution time was 11 sec to 15 sec Is it there any way to optimize to make Log Reader read faster from transaction log??? Other information: SQL Server 2008 (SP2) Standard 64 bit

    I'm running Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2, and Postgres 8.2 on Windows, and I'm seeing something funky in Apache's error.log file. Occasionally, I'll see the message "row number -1 is out of range 0..-1" pop up over and over. Unlike all the other lines in that log file, there's no timestamp or log level. Just that exact string. Googling around, it appears that message is, character for character, a common Postgres error message, but is not an Apache error. I've seen it happen multiple times, and on several different servers. I can't seem to reproduce it, though. I've tried throwing all sorts of error ridden database queries and result set inquiries at Postgres via PHP, and none of them seem to trigger that line being written to the log file. Is it possible for Postgres errors to be ending up in my Apache log file, and if so, how? What would trigger an error message like that? Thanks!

    Hello. I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed with sshd and i can successfully connect to it using login and password. I have configured an RSA key login and now have "Server refused our key" as expected. Ok, now i want to check sshd log in order to fingure out a problem. I have examined /etc/ssh/sshd_config and it have SyslogFacility AUTH LogLevel INFO Ok. I'm looking at /var/log/auth.log and... it's empty O_O. Changing Loglevel to VERBOSE helps nothing - auth.log is still empty. Any hints how i can check sshd log?

  • Enabling the log app on the WDTV

    Just flashed the last WDXLTV firmware on my WDTV and it's working fine. I tried to config a Wifi USB adapter but couldn't get it to work. Dropped the log-saver.app.bin on the root of the stick but didn't find any log files after booting. What I'm doing is turning on the WDTV with the stick inserted (the stick is formatted with FAT32). Tried with the wireless-mod.app.bin required files and without any other file than the log saver. I can't get a log file anyway. All I want right now is to get the log file so I can debug the WI FI adapter.

    I wrote a little bash script and all of a sudden my /var/log folder is completely empty except for the log I created for the bash script.     I'm sending logs from my Heroku app to an rsyslog server, but the resulting log files seem to come up empty. The rsyslog configuration for receiving remote messages is as follows: $template RemoteDailyLog,"/var/log/remote/%hostname%/%$year%/%$month%/%$day%.log" :fromhost-ip, !isequal, "127.0.0.1" -?RemoteDailyLog & ~ My complete rsyslog configuration is available in this paste. This configuration appears to create the directories correctly. I see the Heroku app's logging hostname (of the form "d.xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx") appear in /var/log on the rsyslog host, which implies that log messages are successfully making it to the logging daemon, but the resulting logfiles are zero-size. I'm guessing the issue is with rsyslog, rather than Heroku, but I'm not sure where to look next.
