• Spring security oauth2 provider to secure non-spring api

  I'm trying to set up an oauth 2.0 provider that should "secure" our restful api using spring-security-oauth. Being a 'spring fan' i thought it could be the quicker solution. main point is this restful thingie is not a spring based webapp. boss says the oauth provider should be a separate application, but i'm starting to doubt that. (got this impression by reading spring-security-oauth) i'm also new here so haven't really got my hands into this other (jersey-powered) restul api (core of our business). any help/hint will be much appreciated.

• Custom session state provider needed for DB storage?

  I know this question is related to many others, but please bear with me. I am trying an experiment to store all information in database tables instead of the ASP.NET session. In ASP.NET 4 one can create a custom provider for session. So, again should I implement a Custom Session-State Provider or should I just disable session (in Web.config)? Thanks! From the comments my question can be misunderstood. Hopefully this tidbit will help clarify: I don't want to store the session in the database. I want to store information in the database that you would typically store in the session. One reason why: I don't want to carry around a session on every page, especially if that page doesn't care about 90 percent of the information in the session

• Content Provider and Image storage

  I want to share some image Icons between two applications. I stored the icons in a folder from Application 1 and tried use the folder from application 2. That time i got some permission issue. I was not able add the permission also because it is not a rooted device. So i am now trying to store the icons in a content provider. Is it possible to store the images in a Content provider ? Is there any other good method to implement this ? Please help.

• Check ReturnUrl is valid before redirecting

  I'm using ASP.NET Membership and Form Authentication and before redirecting to the returnURL I wanted to validate it. For those unfamiliar with the workflow, basically if you request a page that requires that you are authenticated, you are redirected to a login page. In the URL string you'll see a parameter called returnURL, e.g. http://example.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fprotected%2fdefault.aspx Whether you use this in a redirect such as Response.Redirect(returnURL) or indirectly through the FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage method, it passes without validating returnURL. FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage does have a security check that it is isn't leaving the domain, but that still doesn't stop someone from putting enough random characters to cause an error. I tried using System.IO.File.Exists(Server.MapPath(returnURL)) but given enough illegal characters it cause Server.MapPath to error. Note: URLEncoding doesn't work because we are not cleaning a parameter, but the primary URL. Any other suggestions for validating or cleaning the returnURL value?

  Hello, I have a gridview control that has on onclick event bound to every cell. Once a user clicks on a cell it directs them to a booking confirmation page and passes 3 url variables. This booking page is behind a aspnet membership and thus if the user is not logged in they are served the login page. The login page has a redirect to https connection in the onload event using the IsSecure property. The issue is once the user logs in, then is returned to the booking confirmation page I lose 2 of the url vars. If I remove the https redirect, everything works fine, but the user logs on on a http connection, which is not cool. Appreciate and help thanks Reuben

• ASP.NET authentication login and logout with browser back button

  Hi, I am looking for a solution for user use the browser's back button to navigate to previous page once logged out. I have a web application build in asp.net and using a custom membership provider for authentication and authorization. Everything works fine except when the user click on the logout link to log out of the application and being redirect to a default cover page, if the use click on the BACK BUTTON on their browser, it will actually go back to where they were before and the data will still show up. Of course they can't do anything on that page, click on anything link they will be redirect to a login page again. But having those information display is making a lot users confused. i am just wondering if there is any way i can either clear the browser's history so use can't go BACK, or when they click on the back button and have them redirect to the login page. thanks

  I am upgrading a website written using ASP.NET 1.1 and the logic for the login page includes verifying the credentials, calling FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie() and populating the Session with the user information. I am updating this page to use Login controls and the Membership API and am trying to wrap my head around the concepts that have been changed. Most of the samples I see do not do anything on the login button event handler, so is the logic of setting the cookie abstracted out into the control? Also, how do I check if a user is logged in or not on other pages. Does it still store user information using the Session? How do I check if a user belongs to a particular role or not (Earlier, I would look in the Session object to do something like this) Is the Session a bad way of storing user info? Thanks

  Hi all, some advice needed! Our website receives approximately 50,000 hits a day, and we use anonymous ASP.Net membership profiles/users, this is resulting in millions (4.5m currently) of "active" profiles and the database is 'crawling', we have a nightly task that cleans up all the inactive ones. There is no way that we have 4.5m unique visitors (our county population is only 1/2 million), could this be caused by crawlers and spiders? Also, if we have to live with this huge number of profiles is there anyway of optimising the DB? Thanks Kev

• User can't login after creating them with the asp.net Create User Wizard

  When I create a user, they can't login until I go into the asp.net configuration and save them. I actually don't change any settings, I just press the save button and then they can login in. What I would like to do is to have the user be able to login once they are created, but I can't seem to get it to work.   Hello all. I'm currently using the good ol login control, .net membership & role providers for a web app I'm building. I have a tabbed navigation menu that I want to make role specific i.e. everyones sees 'Home', one role would be able to see additional tabs, another would be able to see three, etc. Doe sthe allow for such a thing? Has anyone created such a navigation menu and could point a newbie in the right direction? Any help gratefully received.

  If I were to extricate my current membership provider from my solution, i.e. as a dll and expose it as a web service with it's own db, how would I model the relationships with regards to SOA design. For example I have a table: USER id, name, lastname, username, password, role. and table PRODUCT id, name, price, createdate, userid the foreign key being userid to table user. How would I model the relationship and/or query the db. If I wanted to get all products that were uploaded today for example, before I would query: SELECT u.name, u.lastname, u.username, p.* FROM PRODUCT p INNER JOIN USER u ON p.userid = u.id WHERE createdate = '05/05/2010' Now that I don't have the table within the database how would I perform this query?   Hi. I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and its various providers. I have overridden most of the methods I need and have the following custom providers: ProjectMembershipProvider ProjectProfileProvider ProjectRoleProvider In the design of my project, my intention was to wrap the custom providers in a facade - style design - mixing and matching profiling, membership, and roles in API methods to simplify things for developers. But, I am finding that a lot of the methods in my custom providers don't need to change, really. And, it seems silly to wrap a stand-alone method in another method that does exactly the same thing. So - is my approach wrong? Or, should I allow end - users to instantiate the custom providers when needed and the mix/match api when needed? This seems a bit redundant to me but I can't see another way. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

  I need to store a few attributes of an authenticated user (I am using Membership API) and I need to make a choice between using Profiles or adding a new table with UserId as the PK. It appears that using Profiles is quick and needs less work upfront. However, I see the following downsides: The profile values are squished into a single ntext column. At some point in the future, I will have SQL scripts that may update user's attributes. Querying a ntext column and trying to update a value sounds a little buggy to me. If I choose to add a new user specific property and would like to assign a default for all the existing users, would it be possible? My first impression has been that using profiles may cause maintainance headaches in the long run. Thoughts?

  I'm experimenting with writing my own custom MembershipProvider in asp.net and I want to roll my own login page. We do some fairly special stuff at login time so we can't use the default login control so I need a way to manually log a user in. So far I haven't found anything on how to write your own login control so I'm here, wondering how I can manually log a user in via a MembershipProvider. I've tried Membership.ValidateUser("user", "pass"); and while that does call ValidateUser() on my custom MembershipProvider, and it does return true, it doesn't actually log me in. Btw I'm fairly new to the whole MembershipProvider stuff so if I'm not even on the right wavelength, feel free to let me know.

• Different Providers, different websites, still think I'm logged in on the same website.

  I have two web applications in the same solution. They both use different membership/profile and role providers. They are named differently. When I run the solution, and visit one website, and login everything is fine. I then go to the other solution and it thinks I am already logged in and the profile provider tries to load profile properties that do not exist. How can I keep them separate, so when I try to log in on one site, it doesn't think I'm still logged in on the other.

  Hi, In a small test project, I currently have the provider sections in the web.config. I want to move that to a separate config file, like providers.config. My current provider instantiation code is like: //Get the feature's configuration info ProviderConfiguration pc = (ProviderConfiguration)ConfigurationManager.GetSection(DATA_PROVIDER_NAME); This code works if the provider info is in web.config, but how to I read this info from another file (like providers.condfig) because it seems that the ConfigurationManager "reads" only web.config file. • Asp.net profile in a separate assembly

  Hi everyone, I have a web application which uses membership and profiles. I successfully used the WebProfileBuilder extension, so my profile class is correctly generated, and is working nicely. However, after a new request of my client, I need now to move that profile management part into another assembly (so I'd be able to get profile information in a windows service running on the same machine). What I made is created the new assembly, moved my generated profile file, and tried to use it from the other assembly, but without any success. I always get a SettingsPropertyNotFoundException. My tought is that the profile system doesn't know where to find its connection information, so I tried to add the connectionstring and provider in the app.config of this assembly, but this doesn't seem to work. What am I missing ? Is it possible to do ? Thanks in advance!

  I am using VisualWebDeveloperExpress2008 with Access as the membership provider. I have some cases where I want users to edit their own data. This would involve a query where the UserId should equal the UserID of the user who is using the site. I am expecting to use WHERE UserId = ?, but I have not found out where to direct "?". The IDE gives several choices, but I am uncertain which to choose.   i have a database that already has a users table COLUMNS: userID - int loginName - string First - string Last - string i just installed the asp.net membership table. Right now all of my tables are joined into my users table foreign keyed into the "userId" field How do i integrate asp.net_users table into my schema? here are the ideas i thought of: Add a membership_id field to my users table and on new inserts, include that new field in my users table. This seems like the cleanest way as i dont need to break any existing relationships. break all existing relationship and move all of the fields in my user table into the asp.net_users table. This seems like a pain but ultimately will lead to the most simple, normalized solution any thoughts?

• Web server with static IP from cable provider

  I have a subscription to 5 static IP addresses. I want to run a web server from behind a router. My network config is as follows: Server's local address is 10.1.10.2, has IIS running on it, port 80 and 443 (IIS is not my fault, had to be done) the server's ip address is static, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, gateway is 10.1.10.1, which is the local address of the cable modem / router / gateway thingy. All looks to be in textbook order as far as the LAN goes. I can get to anything on my LAN from any computer on my LAN, whether they have static IP or get it through DHCP from the cable modem/router thingy. however, I have no internet access form any of my LAN computers. I called Comcast tech support and they say they can connect to my modem/router just fine and can actually use it to ping any computer on the internet or any computer on my LAN from the router/modem (i checked, myself, this is in fact the case). However, nothing on my LAN has internet connectivity. I tried pinging the DNS servers, nothing. I tried directly typing in web sites' IP addresses, nothing, so doesn't seem to be a DNS issue. Any Ideas? What malfunction of a router could be causing such weird behavior? nay ideas or educated guesses are very much appreciated.

  I am attempting to work with Vagrant and the vagrant-vsphere plugin to deploy machines to my VMware ESXi server. Has anyone had any luck in getting this to work? I realize that vagrant-vsphere is still 0.0.1 though and there are bound to be bugs. Specifially, Vagrant and vagrant-vsphere appear to fail during the vsphere connection, however, SSH and CLI access is enabled and the vSphere powershell is able to connect without an issue. INFO warden: Calling action: # ERROR warden: Error occurred: VagrantPlugins::VSphere::Errors::VSphereError The hostd log file on the ESXi server shows the Vagrant doing an SearchIndex query.
