• What is a good git server frontend for self hosted git repositories

  I am planning on deploying git for a project I am currently working on and was wondering if there are any free softwares that provide an easy to use web view of the git repository. I am primarily interested in using the front end to track changes, see diff information etc. There is a list of such front ends available here. Does anyone have any experience with any of these ? Which one would you suggest An open source clone of github would do just fine actually :D but I know thats too much to ask .

• why licenced code is packed and then is reviewable using Disassembler at the same time ?

  Is it legal / ethical to copy code for any reason, or utilize it (like code review) from the .Net framework or any other .Net based API using Reflector or similar tools ? If it is, what advantages do Microsoft and other licence based softwares have for packing there code ? If it is not, Why can we use ILDasm and Reflector ? Another way of saying this is Why to pack it up if it is fine to review it ? probably I am missing some bits in the question, any one who feels, could ask this question in a better way, is most welcome to edit. • Dynamic IMAP/Pop3 Email Address Creation

  I have a requirement in my project to create dynamic email address on the fly. For example, similar to flickr has the option of uploading photos (or blogger.com has an option of rececing blog posts in predefined email addresses). The email address can be like "[email protected]", once this email address is created what ever the incoming mails will be processed based on certain scenarios. My questions are: What are the solutions available for having our own IMAP/POP3 Server in Windows? Exchange is not an option though, any commercial softwares will do. Is there any way we can have one real email box and that will be masked with alphanumeric email addresss to minimize the creation of email addresses.

  i will be analysing vast amount of network traffic related data shortly. i will pre-process the data in order to analyse it. i have found that R and SPSS are among the most popular tools for statistical analysis. i will also be generating quite a lot of graphs and charts. so i was wondering what is the basic difference between these two softwares. i am not asking which one is better. i just wanted to know what are the difference in terms of workflow between the two besides the fact that SPSS has a GUI. • Good book suggestions for building enterprise software

  Enterprise software are built using technologies/softwares/terminologies/APIs such as EJB, JBoss, Seam, Hibernate(JPA), Maven, Eclipse, Spring, JTS, JMS, JNDI etc. I know there are great books out there for each of these individually, however can someone suggest a book or two that covers all (or most of) these topics in lesser detail and gives examples of how these are integrated? I have intentionally left the client side stuff out because its highly unlikely a single book would cover that much. If anyone knows of a book (or books) that cover most of or various combinations (like EJB, Hibernate, Spring and Seam) of these technologies, please do suggest the same. The idea is not to become an expert in all however know about them in reasonable detail and why each one is required.

• Java Program Design Layout Recommendations?

  I've learned enough to begin writing programs from scratch, but I'm running into the problem of not knowing how to design the layout and implementation of a program. To be more precise, I'm having difficulty finding a good way to come up with an action plan before I dive in to the programming part. I really want to know what classes, methods, and objects I would need beforehand instead of just adding them along the way. My intuition is leading me to using some kind of charting software that gives a hierarchal view of all the classes and methods. I've been using OmniGraffle Pro and while it does seem to work somewhat, I'm still having trouble planning out the program in its entirety. How should I approach this problem? What softwares out there are available to help with this problem? Any good reads out there on this issue? Thanks so much! Edit: Oh yeah, I'm using Eclipse and I code mainly in Java right now.

• Is it possible to raise an error if a variable assignment in a select returns multiple values?

  I just found a bug on one of my softwares where I had forgotten a where clause. The code was something like that : declare @foo bigint declare @bar bigint select @foo = foo, @bar=bar from tbFooBar where (....a long list of condition goes there) (... and an extra condition should have went there but I forgot it) Unfortunately, the where clause I forgot was useful in very specific corner cases and the code went through testing successfully. Eventually, the query returned two values instead of one, and the resulting bug was a nightmare to track down (as it was very difficult to reproduce, and it wasn't obvious at all that this specific stored procedure was causing the issue we spotted) Debugging would have been a lot easier if the @foo=foo had raised an exception instead of silently assigning the first value out of multiple rows. Why is that this way? I can't think of a situation where one would actually want to do that without raising an error (bearing in mind the clauses 'distinct' and 'top' are there for a reason) And is there a way to make sql server 2008 raise an error if this situation occurs ?

• How to create a Windows GUI with a file explorer window, allowing users to choose files?

  Here's what I want to do. I want to present a file explorer, and allow the user to select files, and list the selected files below. (I then want to process those files but that's the next part) For example, the way CD Burning softwares work. • Convert DVD Movie to MPEG and view on PS3 via Windows Media Server 12

  I think Apollo spacecraft missions to the moon were easier than this! I have tried dozens of DVD ripping software and media servers and have had limited success in trying to convert all my DVDs into file format so they can be viewed on PS3. I have also been on dozens of forums and it's all getting a bit confusing, some advice is out of date, some software is no longer updated - updates have been applied to PS3 operating system and windows and so on and so on. There has to be a way to get all this knowledge and information in one place that's up to date so people can do the same thing as me. Can anyone give me some definitive software and/or advice to do the following: I have over 200 DVDs - I want to convert these to VOB files (rename to MPEG so WMS can stream them). Store on hard disk and view via Windows Media Server 12 (Windows 7). I will then be able to view these via my PS3 in my lounge and never have to get out another DVD case again. I don't want to encode to any other format like MP4 with H.264 because I will lose some of the original quality. So MPEG-2 is fine for me. Note: I have been using DVD Shrink but it gives odd results sometimes. The main problem being that once the DVD has been ripped - WMS shows the wrong playing length of the film, however if I use VLC Media Player it will play through the whole film OK. This is obviously no good when it comes to streaming on the PS3.

• How to verify power provided to processors is clean

  Once in a blue moon, I am seeing a blue screen of death on a shiny new Dell R7610 with a single 1100 Watt Dell-provided power supply on a beefy UPS. BCode is 101 (A clock interrupt was not received...), which some say is caused by under-volting a CPU. Naturally, I would have to contact Dell support, and their natural reaction would be to replace a motherboard, a power supply, or CPU, or a mixture of the above components. In synthetic benchmarks, system memory and CPU, as well as graphics memory and CPU perform admirably, staying up for hours and days. My questions are: Is power supply good enough for the application? Does it provide clean enough power to VRMs on the motherboard? Are VRMs good enough for dual Xeon E5-2665? Does C-states logic work correctly? Is there sufficient current provided to PCIe peripherals, such as disk controllers? P.S. Recently, I've gone through the ordeal with HP. They were nice and professional about it, but root cause was not established, and the HP machine still is less than 100%, giving me a blue screen of death once in a couple of months. Here's what quick web-searching turns up: http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/35427-win-7-clock-interrupt-bsod-101-error.html#post356791 It appears Dell has addressed the above issue by clocking PCIe bus down to 5GT/sec in A03 BIOS. Further testing shows significant decrease in performance on each of the x16 slots with Dell R7610 with A03 BIOS. But now it's running stable. HP machine has received a microcode update in September 2013 SUM (July BIOS) that makes it stable.

• Can not connect remotely to MySQL Server on Ubuntu 10.10

  Ok I have searched google for two days trying to get this to work. Here are the steps I have taken so far: Clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 Install mysql 5.1 as well as admin Comment out the bind address in the config file Create a new database Create a new user that is username@% to allow remote connections Grant all access to this user to the new database EXCEPT the grant option Login on the server is ok using this new user and database on the localhost Login on the server is ok using this new user and database on the server internal network ip Login from a remote computer is ok using this new user and database using the internal network ip Login is not working when logging in with this username and database using the external ip address from the server or the remote computer. I have port forwarding enabled for this port and it is viewable from outside as confirmed by canyouseeme.org I have nmap'd using the following command on the internal ip and get the below result: nmap -PN -p 3306 192.168.1.73 Starting Nmap 5.21 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-02-19 13:41 PST Nmap scan report for computername-System-Name (192.168.1.73) Host is up (0.00064s latency). • How to convince Out of state resume filtering?

  Hello folks! Personally I've applied to quiet a handful of IT admin jobs inside my state and to the ones that are way far away. The sad part is I never miss to get an interview with the jobs in my state, but get a call once in a blue moon from jobs out of my state. Note: All the jobs are of similar nature. Recently one of my friends told me that "Applicants with local addresses are the ones that are even looked upon". How true is this? Does filtering take place at address level before qualifications? Is using a PO box on resume acceptable [one for each state like CA, TX, VA]? Any other suggestions to get calls from out of state? No conceito utilizado pelo OEM, os elementos que podem ser monitorados são chamados de Targets, e esses targets envolvem a monitoração de hosts (Windows, Linux, Solaris), Banco de Dados, Middleware, Aplicações Web, Serviços que podem ser customizados pelo administrador, Sistemas e Grupos de targets, além dos aplicativos Oracle. Cada elemento monitorado é ativado através de packs de gerenciamento. Ou seja, há uma série de packs que podem ser adquiridas conforme a necessidade, para permitir a monitoração a partir do próprio OEM Grid Control. • NVidia with Optimus conflicting in Ubuntu 12.04

  i have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a Intel Ivy Bridge with integrated graphics and NVidia GPU with Optimus tech, however i cant manage it to work properly. I have already passed by the solution of bumblebee project, however iam got the following message when try to run anything with nvidia card( e.g. with optirun firefox): [ERROR]The Bumblebee daemon has not been started yet or the socket path /var/run/bumblebee.socket was incorrect. • MS in Computer Science after BE in electronics

  I am doing my 3rd year Bachelors in Electronics and Electrical Communication but from the first year I have been interested in Computer Science. But at that time it was just my hobby. But in second year when I joined robotics my love for computer science rose. I with my team came in top three in 2 National Competition (Technical fests of different IITs) where we used Image Processing, Hardware interfacing etc. But then I realised that Computer Science is not just about coding. I took many lectures from online free schools like Udacity, Coursera in subjects related to Artificial Intelligence, Building a Search Engine, Design and Analysis of Algorithm, Programming a Robotic Car, Programming Languages, Machine Learning, Software Engineering as a Service, WebApps Engineering, Compilers, Applied Crypotography etc. I also did some courses in Core and Advanced Java in my second year from training institute. I will also be taking course in Statistics, Databases, Discrete Mathematics from 25th June. Now I realized how vast is the field of Computer Science and how efficient you become on deciding algorithms and classifying problems into different subfields which have been thoroughly researched so you don't always do brute force thing or naive programming. Now this field has become kind of passion for me. Adding to the fact I am also doing my 6 months internship in software field in Texas Instruments where I am working on Automation and Algorithms. I also have some 5-6 good college level projects in Softwares and Robotics. I also like Electronics but only some fields like Operating System(this subject was there in Electronics also), Micro Processor, Digital, Computer Architecture, DSPs etc. I really want to pursue MS in some field of Computer Science. I am giving GRE in October/November. Till now I have good CG of around 9.4/10 and my 1 year in college is still left. Do I have any chance that some good University in US will consider me for MS in field related to computer science or Robotics. Also Can you suggest somethings that I can do during this 1 year to increase my chances for MS or should I apply for EECS(Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and then I can shift more towards Computer Science as my major option. My main aim is to do Phd after Ms in CS if I am able to do that somehow. I know that I have to put much extra effort to understand things in MS than CS undergraduates but I will do that with my full dedication, also when I communicate with my college CS students or during my internship period I didn't feel that I am missing very much stuff that they know and was very comfortable during my internship with software employees.

  I got to do some image processing program in java using Linux. I chose to use the JMF for my camera (a webcam) access. But my program is not able to access the camera. But, the jmf works well in Windows. I downloaded jmf from oracle.com and I tried to install it in 'Ubuntu 10.10-the Maverick-released in October 2010 and supported until April 2012'. The downloaded file was a .bin file. I got the below output (last part of the output) when I tried the command provided by oracle /bin/sh ./jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin.   I have an iMac at home and I use a Macbook pro for work. I also have a time capsule at home containing my main folder with my main files. I use it as a NAS besides the Time Machine backup tool. I have several personal files I need to be accessing both at home and at work. My wife, who works at home, uses sometimes the same .XLS files and .DOC files I might have used during my day at work, away from home. My question is: Is there a software, or tool that a I can use to sync my iMac and my MB Pro folders? Remembering that: There might be a chance that my wife and I have changed the same files during the day, so the files would have to be merged so none of the information added by either me or my wife would be lost. The software/tool that would be installed on the MB Pro would need to mount the Time Capsule volume so it could locate the main folder on it. It has to be done automatically when my MB is at home ( with a schedule option ); I have tested some softwares like synctwofolders and Chronosync but none fulfilled all my needs. The first couldn't mount the Time Capsule Volume and didn't have the many schedule options. I really liked Chronosync, but it doesn't merge the files. When it detects a conflict ( for instance: my wife changed a .DOC file on the iMAC and I changed the same file on the MB it asks you to choose which version you want to keep instead of allowing you simply to merge them ). I don't have much experience with automator or scripts but maybe you can give me a hand with that.

• How much does a computer actually cost?

  Ok, so when you buy a new notebook, you spend about $1 or $2 thousand with the OS included. When you make your own desktop machine you can get as low as $100 for a good one today, with not a single piece of software included. It can't be much lower, but it can go lot higher. People, including myself, tend to believe that's the price of a computer, but then there comes the softwares. I just stumbled upon a nice piece of application I could use myself, but it's very specific, very tiny, and most people would never bother about this. And it costs "just $12". That is a lot for something I may use just once or twice! OS upgrades, hardware malfunction, and your custom set of software actually raise the computer price quite a lot, thus this question: how much we pay in the end for our personal computers? I'd like to see some statistics on that. Maybe divided into 3 categories or something, but some data with averages, minimum and "maximum" costs would be very nice. Maybe a "cost per year" would be nice. Just wondering.

• Photoshop CS6 Corrupted File recovery

  Last night I was working on a client application mock-up in photoshop, but was goin to take a break from my work so I saved the .PSD file on my internal HDD and put my computer into stand-by mode once the file had finished saving. Unfortunately my computer crashed while it was entering stand-by and shut itself down (photoshop was still open). I did not boot it again to make sure all my files were ok because they had already been saved, but today once I opened up the file again it was extremely corrupted and also completely un-editable (screenshot bellow). so what im asking is there any way to recover my work, or at least some of it? i have put in a good few days work on this project and would hate to have to restart it. the size of the file is 3070 KB, even though it reads as 712 KB in photoshop. i dont know if these file sizes are larger or either smaller than the original non-corrupted file's size, but considering all the layers in the file i suspect it was larger before it corrupted. im using windows XP professional 32bit SP3. both my OS and said .PSD file are located on the same internal HDD (74.4 GB). i do have an external HDD (1.5 TB) but i primarily only use it for movies music and tv shows. i dont know if it was plugged in t the time of me editing the document last, though, if it means anything. i have tried many image and PSd recovery softwares but none have returned any results that may help recover my work. edit: i tried using a photo reccovery software (odboso Photorecovery) that actually seems to recover the corrupted file in question judging by the size of the file, but i cannot recover it because of the licence fee. knowing that the file is still likely on my HDD, what location might it be located?
