  • unable to transfer files from handy cam to PC

    I am using a Windows 7 PC,I am using sony dcr -sr88 handy cam . I need to transfer all my videos from handycam to my PC. when i try to connect to the PC through USB. it detects the usb drive in the Handycam on my PC and shows the used memory. But when i open the folder it shows "folder is empty". How i can copy the files? I have tried following: Changed the USB cable CHanged the USB port I can play the videos through handicam, but those files not visible in PC when connected in USB mode. Please help ..bit urgent!

  • How does /burnmemory=XXX boot.ini switch work?

    I know what the /burnmemory switch does on Windows, but I'd like to understand what Windows is doing under the hood to support it. It's described on msdn as the "amount of memory, in megabytes, that Windows cannot use". Does this mean simply that the kernel does not allow user virtual memory mapping into this area? How is this accomplished in the kernel, and are there other restrictions that the kernel will make when burnmemory is set?

    Has anybody had any experience using XXClone as a tool for cloning an existing installation of Windows in order to move it from an old PATA drive to a new, larger SATA without having to reinstall everything? Did you have any problems? Or can you recommend an alternative (free) software tool that you know - preferably from repeated experience - is reliable?   • Decreasing cached memory and increasing Free memory in RAM

    Hi, Im using windows 2007 server 64 bit OS, I've uploaded the snap shot of my task manager when minimum processes running It shows Total memory 8190 mb *Cached memory 4315 mb* Free 3402 mb So effectively I get only 3402 mb of total RAM usage My question here is more than half is used for cached memory is there any means I can decrease this cached memory inturn I can increase my free memory. I need to do this because my Application requires at least 5GB RAM and it crashed when run in this system. Please give me a solution for this Thanks in advance

  • Difference between "bit-number" in filesystem and that in OS (like 32,64 bit)?

    I encountered 2 terms ,"FAT32", a file system and "Windows Vista 32 bit". I found that the meaning of a 32 bit OS is that that the OS deals with data in chunks of minimum size 32 bits. I don't quite understand the depth of that, but I figure ,every file in that system with that OS should have a minimum size of 32 bits. I also read that these 32 bits are used to hold data of files' location(reference) and details. Which of it is it? I have also read that 4 GB of RAM is all that is needed at the most if you're on a 32 bit OS. But I don't understand why. If there are 32 bits to hold info about files and their locations,there can be 2^32 possible combinations of it. But I have found in many places,2^32 is divided by 1024 thrice to get 4GB. Why? Did that 2^32 become equal to 2^32 bytes? And about filesystems I read a similar explanation for what 32 means in FAT32. It is supposed to mean that 32 bits are used to number file system block. Now how is different from the number before the OS?

  • Installing multiple versions of a shared library

    I am running ubuntu 10.04 and I want to use tmux 1.6. tmux has a dependency on libevent 2. My solution was to compile libevent2 and drop into /usr/local/lib then compile tmux against this lib and drop into /usr/local/bin. This works great until...I restart. This is just an assumption on my part but it seems that other binaries are now linking to the libevent2 library presumably because its on the library path. Because there are 60+ packages with libevent1 dependencies this causes my install to basically lose its mind. Is there an idiomatic way to approach running an application that has a core library dependency on a different version? Should I just statically link the lib?

  • Is there a difference in page fault rates between CPU bound and I/O bound processes?

    I was thinking, should there be any difference in expectation of the page fault rate on CPU-bound vs I/O bound processes? At first I thought maybe we could, since CPU-bound processes would likely be using more memory accesses per time quantum, so I expect it would move from locality to locality faster. At the same time, the CPU-bound process is probably given a larger working set... but this doesn't affect the fault overhead as it hits a new locality IF this wasn't pre-paged in. Is there actually any real difference in the page fault rates or am I just musing about something nonexistent? And if there is, how would it impact a real-world OS like linux?

What I did was, I took out the hard drive, put it in an enclosure and plugged it in to my other laptop that runs linux. The problem is, I cannot copy files from the hard drive due to file permissions. I tried to access the hard drive as root. But I still cannot copy files.   • Turn 2 USB type A ports (receptacles) into an extension cable with 2 type A receptacles using Linux?

    I'm currently trying to connect 2 USB devices together, but both ends are type A plugs. Before I buy a physical extension cords with 2 type A receptacles, I'd like to know if I can connect these 2 devices together at all by passing data "transparently" through a Linux box with = 2 USB ports. I'm actually trying to connect a keyboard to an Android phone, and I want to first try if it can work by using a Linux box as a "virtual" USB extension cord.     is there any way to know that form which path an application was installed. for example I have firefox.exe in D:\Downloads\App\firefox.exe and when I install it, it is installed in C:\Program Files\Firefox but for some reason I need path from where Firefox was installed. that is "D:\Downloads\App\". like if this path is stored in some registry value? or in some other system variables? is there any way to get that path? I would like to get that path and then store it in some text file

I put my win 8's partition to 11 GB (almost), but now when I try to uninstall the win 8 it dont allow me to uninstall it saying no enough space. What to do ??   • Simple VM That allows booting from folder or disk

    I was wondering if there was a very simple and free virtual machine that would allow you to boot from a folder or disk image that couldn't damage my hard disk. I am using a MacBook and am looking into operating system programming. I found a tutorial on the internet that looked promising (http://www.viralpatel.net/taj/tutorial/hello_world_bootloader.php). I want to try this but using a VM instead of actually booting from a disk. If I made a folder or disk image containing the boot.bin file and wanted to try the OS I made (while booting from a folder or disk image, not a disk), is there a VM that would let me do it? I have no previous experience with virtual machines. I also want to be sure my hard disk would not be damaged.

  • Monitoring folders for changes

    I'm working on a project that will require an application that watches a list of directories the user specifies for changes. Also, I'd like to give the users the option of running the application as a service or on an individual basis. Since users can choose to run it on an individual basis I don't think listening for some operating system event triggered by the addition or deletion of files (if such events exist) would be sufficient. I thought about maybe calculating a checksum for the deepest folder and then building up. I could then compare these checksums on subsequent scans to try and pinpoint where the changes have occurred. Would that be an appropriate solution; if not what would be the best way of doing this in an efficient manner? Also, I'm not quite sure what to tag this as so if you have any recommendations let me know and I'll as them as I see fit. EDIT: I'll need this method to work on Windows, OS X, and ideally Linux

    Operating systems read from disk more than what a program actually requests, because a program is likely to need nearby information in the future. In my application, when I fetch an item from disk, I would like to show an interval of information around the element. There's a trade off between how much information I request and show, and speed. However, since the OS already reads more than what I requested, accessing these bytes already in memory is free. What API can I use to find out what's in the OS caches? Alternatively, I could use memory mapped files. In that case, the problem reduces to finding out whether a page is swapped to disk or not. Can this be done in any common OS?

    As any programmer in the world at least once in his/her life, I am trying to create my "revolutionary", the new and only one operating system. :D Well, I am using a virtual emulator (Oracle VM Virtual Box), for which I create a new unknwon operating system, with a vmdk disk. I like vmdk because they are just plain files, so I can paste my boot-loader over the first 512 bytes of the virtual hard disk. Now, I am trying to read the next sector of this virtual disk, on which I would paste a simple kernel that would display a message. I have two questions: Am I reading the second segment (the first -512 bytes- is occupied by the bootloader) correctly?   • How to determine the port numbers for peripheral devices?

    I know that peripheral devices such as a hard driver, a floppy driver, etc are controlled by reading/writing certain control registers on their device controllers. I am wondering about the following questions: Is it true that when these peripheral devices are plugged onto the computer, the addresses(port numbers) of their control registers are thus determined by how they are attached to the address bus (i.e. the hard-wiring rules, not any soft things)? Who makes the scheme of the port number assignment? If I was given a naked computer(with no operating system and with many peripheral devices), how could I figure out the port number assignment so I can use them to control peripheral deveices.
