  I have recently changed domain name for a webapp I run on Google App Engine and I am wondering if there is a simple way to do a page for page redirect from my old website to the new domain. Everything code wise is staying exactly the same but I just want it to go to the new domain. I am using python and the webapp2 framework for the webapp. I know I could go through and for every single handler do: webapp2.redirect('the specific url', permanent=True) But I am hoping for a simpler solution.

• Nameservers and migrating a VPS

  I am primarily a front end developer who has been tasked with upgrading my companies VPS. As far as I understand, this is just the process of obtaining a new VPS with WHM/CPanel and then migrating the existing accounts over to the new VPS, testing the sites out, then pointing the DNS to the new nameserver records. That sounds pretty straightforward. What I am having trouble understanding is how to set up the new nameservers on the new VPS. How do I obtain/establish the new nameserver records for the new, blank VPS?

On hosting company website finded DNS addresses and applied them to domain hosting website(changed DNS) I done it yesterday, so today it should work, but: Unable to resolve the server's DNS address appears. • Changing domain name - what are the practical steps involved

  I launched a website a couple of years ago, bright eyed and bushy tailed, with dreams of conquering the world. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. Now, that I am a bit older and wiser, I have spent some money on branding and creating more quality content etc, I am rebranding and relaunching the site with a new domain name. Although the traffic on the old site is laughable (i.e. non-existent), there are a few pages of good information on there and I don't want to lose any "juice" those pages may have gained because web crawlers have been seeing it for a few years now. Ok, the upshot of all that is this: I want to change my domain name from xyz.com to abc.com. I am maintaining the same friendly urls I had before, only the domanin name part of the url will change, so that any traffic coming to the old page will be forwarded/redirected? to the new page seamlessly. How do I go about achieving this (i.e. what are the steps I need to carry out, and to minimize any "disruption" to any credibility the existing site has with Googlebot etc? I am running Apache 2.x on a headless Linux (Ubuntu) server.

  We have been unsuccessful in persuading a stalker's website host to release the domain name he purchased which is my own personal name, e.g., PERSONALNAME.com. You will find my name below in the signature area. Look for yourself. On the one page that this domain name leades to is dreadful and defamatory material. No attorney has felt it worth their time to chase this issue down, and we cannot afford to go to a national or international dispute resolution group to bring this issue to WHOIS. Worse, the stalker is amoral and a psychopath: he would just love the attention. We've even consider trying to find someone to illegally hack into the webpage to at least redirect the domain pointers to my own professional website. This issue has continued now for two years and is affecting my professional reputations as potential clients have looked for me online. Is there any remedy? Your help and advice would be greatly welcomed.

• What kinds of issues can one expect when changing a domain names registar? (3 questions)

  Assuming that there are no 'unusual' items that come up, what kind of disruptions can one expect when moving a domain between registrars? I understand some of the below may vary over registrars. But assuming both ends are large proficient registrars: a) Will the NS settings be mirrored? We use a dedicated dns service provider so we are not using the originating registrars name servers. All that we are concerned about is that the existing NS values are mirrored at the target registrar. b) Are incoming domain transfers automated on the target registrar end? Eg: If we begin the transfer process during business hours at the source registrar, will someone have to manually approve the inbound transfer (most likely during their business hours) at the target registrar? c) Is the domain ever 'in limbo'? At any time in the process is there ever a time when the NS values for the domain are not populated (as they were prior to initiating the transfer) OR one does not have access to populate them (at the target registrar)?   I am looking at getting a VPS with RackSRV, and they don't sell domain names, but are happy to set it up after I get one elsewhere. Can anyone recommend somewhere I can purchase just the domain, and not have any hassles moving it afterwards? (Or can I just purchase the domain and make it point at the RackSRV ip address, while still using the domain sellers' control panel? I don't really understand that part of it enough! :)) I want the domain name registered in my name, ideally with myself as the technical and administrative contacts for simple transfers.

• Access a PLESK website before propagation?

  My web host uses Plesk and I want to know if there is anyway to access and view a website (with PHP and other processes being functional) without propagation of the domain name? I have found countless forums on this but they are all pretty old (circa 01-04) and involve either tricking your localhost or SSH commands and some even result in terrible security risks. I would like to access a web page directory through a browser and see it's contents while having the PHP processes carry out... before I propagate it's potential domain name. People claim this is pointless but during a site migration why on earth would you not test a site before propagating it? I'm looking for something similar to what cPanel offers i.e. http://IP.ADDRESS./~mydomain.com The only solution I could think of is storing the site in a new directory of an already functional site and then setting up databases and testing the site once it's complete. Once tested and working I should be easily be able to migrate the files to the "new" domain name's root directory and just setup a new databases and then propagate the domain name. I can't believe that Plesk V10+ still does not have a site preview method that includes PHP, JS, and Flash ability.

• Website migration is not working for all computers

  We got 2 servers on same network, Server-A and Server-B. On Server-A (widows server 2003), we have IIS 5.2 and our website was hosted on it few month ago (about 7-8 months). We bought a new server, Server-B (Windows Server 2008) with IIS 7.5 and copied our old website on this new machine. On our router, we forward the port 80 to Server-B. The Server-A is still on because we need to access some old data by our old website. I would like to access it with it's internal Ip (192.168.1.xxx/mywebsite) On my Windows 7 computer, if I write www.example.com or example.com (without www.), I'm being redirected to Server-B and I can see our new interface. On some Windows Vista computer, example.com (without www.) redirect to Server-B, but if I write www.example.com, I'm still on Server-A. In our website code (on Server-B), we sometimes redirect with a "www." so this is causing some error because we are trying to access a webpage that exist on Server-B but not Server-A and because the www.example I compared 2 computers with Vista Home on them and Internet Options looks the same. I cannot figure why this is happening

  I'm studing a way to create my company domain based on it's name. Consider that my company's name is Another Store and I want to register a domain like anothersto.re - this is just an example. That domain is strictly chosen by marketing. What happens is that my company is stabilished in Brazil and our domain here is .br. The .re domain stands for an island near France so haves nothing to do with my country. If that domain is chosen what it can imply about SEO questions?   We have a few websites that we are running on one instance of IIS that need to be mapped for each of their domain names. For example. Site A has the domain name coolness.com Site B has the domain name 6to8Weeks.com Site C has the domain name PhatTech.com When I look at the "Web Site Identification" section of the IIS configuration window, I notice that I can specify an IP address and port, but if I click the Advanced button, I can also configure the site based on host header values as well. How do I configure each site in IIS? Ideally I would like them to all be able to listen to port 80, so I don't have weird URLs, but I'm not sure if I do this using headers, IP addresses, both, or something else.

• Any recommendations for a domain buying negotiating service? [closed]

  The best domain for my niche and related is owned by a guy in San Fransisco, and I want to buy the domain from him but I don't want to deal with him directly (even though he has contacted me in the past). I need to find an intermediary company that can handle the negotiation for me. I don't expect to have to pay much since the guy has been squatting on it for more than 15 years and according to the Internet Wayback Machine it has never actually been used for anything at all - he has never added any value to it. It kind of irritates me that such a good domain has been sitting in this guy's closet gather dust for 15 years. I know that GoDaddy has a domain buying negotiating service (and the domain is registered through them, which may make it easier), but I really, really do not want to do business with GoDaddy if I don't have too. Do any of you know of other firms that deal with this sort of thing?

• Prevent azure subdomain indexation

  Let me explain my situation, I have an azure website (with azurewebsites.net sub domain), and a custom domain.com, built with asp.net MVC Both are being indexed by Google, but I've noticed the custom domain is being penalized and it doesn't show up in results, it only shows when I search for "site:domain.com" I want to remove and block the azurewebsites.net subdomain from Google. I've read the "possible" solutions: Adding robots.txt: won't work, because the subdomain and the domain are the exact same content, so subdomain.azures.net/robots.txt will lead to domain.com/robots.txt, removing the domain as well. Adding the tag, is the same situation as the previous point. I'm using a CNAME register to redirect the domain to the subdomain, so I can't redirect to a sub directory. Do you have any other ideas?

  Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll give it a go. I simply require a little advice; A very large hosted e-commerce platform emailed me a while back and basically asked me to transfer my domain name to them. They made no offer but simply said 'why not change your domain to xx - xx instaead of xxxx' Not they own all the equivalent names in .com, .org all of them apart from my .co.uk I am a registered partner of theirs and my website is a portfolio of all my themes but I also get a lot of enquires through it. I had heard rumors this company is opening an office in the UK! I'm right in thinking I shouldn't just roll over right? I've put some much effort in to SEO and building my reputation... I can't just give it up surly?

• Change A-Record in Hetzner Konsoleh

  I am a Hetzner level 19 shared hosting client and would like to change the A-record for my domain. When I log in to konsoleh, I see which IP-address it points to at the moment, but not where I can change it. Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks! Solution I called Hetzner support. It was because I had to log in with my client id, not with my domain. Then I could just click on the A-record and edit it.
