IIM Calcutta – EPBM14 – Campus Visit – Day 3 – Kali Temple, IS & Strateg

Hey folks~ Today was one of the most happening day for us, we got up @ 5 AM and did our daily morning chores and left hostel room by 5:35 AM. So why we got up so early??? Okay we planned a visit to Kali Temple at KaliGhat! So till everyone assembles, we took few pics on the Lake Deck. We left Joka campus at 6 AM and reached Kali temple at 6:50 AM. Kali temple is very famous in Kolkata, but the frankly speaking it’s one of the most unorganised one for sure~! After darshan, we got back into our Taxis and headed for breakfast at Gupta Brothers Restaurant. We enjoyed “doodh-jalebi”, “Kachori-sabzi” and rasogullas there~! While coming back, one of our Taxi’s excel broken and we waited for the first to come back and take us to Campus. After coming back to campus, we attended our sessions on IS & Strategy on ITC eChaupal and Transactional Cost and Vertical Integration(TCVI). After our classed we had “Dinner Party” organised by IIMC, and we enjoyed it thoroughly, and many of us took this as an opportunity to share our biz card and talk to Professors. JavaOne Russia: Great Line Up

I'm (we're) in New York, a week of vacation. (Growing list of photos can be found here.) A week in Brooklyn, and around, flea markets, book stores, museums, music. One of several highlights will be seeing "Death of a Salesman" with Philip Seymour Hoffman in the main role, tomorrow. However, mentally, at least partly, I'm in Moscow, at JavaOne Moscow, 17 & 18 April. http://www.oracle.com/javaone/ru-en/index.html I'm doing two items there, thankfully on the first day, I always think the sooner the better: Tuesday 12:30 - 13:15 -- Unlocking the Java EE 6 Platform (in the Keynote Hall) Tuesday 16:30 - 18:15 -- Rapid Corporate Desktop Development (in HOL Room) Several speakers I'm looking forward to seeing there include Bert Ertman who will be talking about Spring/Java EE 6 migration, Dalibor Topic talking about Lambda expressions in JDK 8, Arun Gupta with his Java EE 6 HOL (appears to be a partial overlap with my session), and various others. And I hope I will make it to Angela Caicedo's HOL on JavaFX. The whole program, which is available via the link above, indicates that many (dare I say "most"?) of the sessions will be using NetBeans in one way or another. Looks like it will be a great conference.

How to Install WebLogic 12c ZIP on Linux

I knew that WebLogic had this small ZIP distribution, of only 184M, but what I didn't know was that it is so easy to install it on Linux machines, specially for development purposes, that I thought I had to blog about it. You may want to check this blog, where I found the missing part on this how to, but I'm blogging this again because I wanted to put it in a simpler way, straight to the point. And if you are looking for a how to for Mac, check Arun Gupta's post. So, here's the step-by-step: 1 - Download the ZIP distribution (don't worry if your system is x86_64)Don't forget to accept the OTN Free Developer License Agreement! 2 - Choose where to install your WebLogic server and your domain, and set as your MW_HOME environment variableI will use /opt/middleware/weblogic for this how to export MW_HOME=/opt/middleware/weblogicMake sure this path exists in your system. 'mydomains' will be used to keep your WebLogic domain. mkdir -p $MW_HOME/mydomain 3 - If you don't have your JAVA_HOME environment variable still configured, do it. Point it to where your JDK is installed. export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/default-java 4 - Unzip the downloaded file into MW_HOME unzip wls1211_dev.zip -d $MW_HOME 5 - Go to that directory and run configure.sh cd $MW_HOME ./configure.sh 6 - Call the setEnvs.sh script . $MW_HOME/wlserver/server/bin/setWLSEnv.sh7 - Create your development domain. It will ask you for username and password. How switch between screen inside screen?

I have to work inside two environment. One Windows (local) and one Linux (remote). I've installed the screen linux utility in both. I'm able to open a screen on my windows, then in one tab, I opened a ssh connection to the linux remote and I start another screen. Sample linux -- |0 linux remote 0| 1 linux remote 1 windows-- |0 linux | 9 windows I can switch between "linux remote 0" and "linux remote 1" using Atl+. This is configured in .screenrc (bindkey "^[0" select 0) How could I switch to "9 windows"?

How can a wix custom action dll call be made to use the debug runtime via a merge module?

The debug Dlls in my project are dependent on both the VS2008 and the VS2008SP1 debug runtimes. Doing 64 bit manipulation using 32 bit data in Fixed point arithmetic using C.

Hi, I am stuck with a problem. I am working on a hardware which only does support 32 bit operations. sizeof(int64_t) is 4. Sizeof(int) is 4. and I am porting an application which assumes size of int64_t to be 8 bytes. The problem is it has this macro BIG_MULL(a,b) ( (int64_t)(a) * (int64_t)(b) 23) The result is always a 32 bit integer but since my system doesn't support 64 bit operation, it always return me the LSB of the operation, rounding of all the results making my system crash. Java Evangelist Arun Gupta, who was on one of the selection committees and will be again this year, provided some great tips for submission (and a peek into the submission process): JavaOne is a technology-focused conference so any product, marketing or seemingly marketish talk are put at the bottom of the list. Oracle Open World and Oracle Develop are better options for submitting product specific talks. Make your title catchy. Remember the attendees are more likely to read the abstract if they like the title. We try our best to recategorize the talk to a different track if it needs to but please ensure that you are filing in the right track to have all the right eyeballs looking at it. Also, it does not hurt marking an alternate track if your talk meets the criteria. Make sure to coordinate within your team before the submission - multiple sessions from the same team or company does not ensure that the best speaker is picked. In such case we rely upon your "google presence" and/or review committee's prior knowledge of the speaker. The reviewers may not know you or your product at all and you get 750 characters to pitch your idea. Make sure to use all of them, to the last 750th character. Make sure to read your abstract multiple times to ensure that you are giving all the relevant information ? Think through your presentation and see if you are leaving out any important aspects. Also look if the abstract has any redundant information that will not required by the reviewers. There are additional sections that allow you to share information about the speaker and the presentation summary. Use them to blow the horn about yourself and any other relevant details. SCHA API for resource group failover / switchover history

The Oracle Solaris Cluster framework keeps an internal log of cluster events, including switchover and failover of resource groups. These logs can be useful to Oracle support engineers for diagnosing cluster behavior. However, till now, there was no external interface to access the event history. Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.2 provides a new API option for viewing the recent history of resource group switchovers in a program-parsable format. Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.2 provides a new option tag argument RG_FAILOVER_LOG for the existing API command scha_cluster_get which can be used to list recent failover / switchover events for resource groups. The command usage is as shown below: # scha_cluster_get -O RG_FAILOVER_LOG number_of_days number_of_days : the number of days to be considered for scanning the historical logs. The command returns a list of events in the following format. Each field is separated by a semi-colon [;]: resource_group_name;source_nodes;target_nodes;time_stamp source_nodes: node_names from which resource group is failed over or was switched manually. target_nodes: node_names to which the resource group failed over or was switched manually. There is a corresponding enhancement in the C API function scha_cluster_get() which uses the SCHA_RG_FAILOVER_LOG query tag. Geek Bike Ride JavaOne 2012

"Geek Bike Ride?" the clerk at the bike rental shop asked. "Are you guys all from the same company?" "We aren't even from the same country!" we answered. "I'm from Russia." "We're from Germany." "I'm from Belgium." "I'm from Palo Alto." "I'm from Japan." "We're from Brazil." "We're from Brazil." "I'm from Sweden." "Coooool" was all she could say. She was right. The Geek Bike Ride was cooool. We had 39 bike riders and one skater show up Saturday for a great route from San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf, across the Golden Gate bridge, to Saulsalito, and back to the city by ferry. Duke Bike jerseys, sponsored by OTN, were given out. To make sure Java developers got them, each person had to answer a Java question to get a jersey. The questions were really hard, like "Who is the Father of Java?" "What's the biggest Java conference in San Francisco?" The best was when the question was "Name one of Duke's Choice Award winner from this year," and Régina ten Bruggencate answered answered "Me!" It was foggy throughout the day, with the sun poking out occasionally. The fog was thickest on the bridge, more that one rider commented that we were "in the cloud." It was a great day to meet new friends, and have a chat with old friends. We all had fun, though some of us may more a little more slowly during JavaOne. Ride on! How do I check if a swf file loaded correctly since put_Movie always returns S_OK?

I am using the latest flash player and have a swf file served locally from my dev machine. In one container test app I am able to play the swf and make calls to it, but in my "Real" application the same code path results in com errors (basically it looks like the swf isn;' loading properly) Additionally this is made more challenging because no matter what nonsense I put in the call to put_Movie() the return is ALWAYS S_OK. This is confusing. How am I supposed to determine if the swf file loaded and is working? As a follow-on, what would cause a swf file (the same one) not to load in a different app? The code paths are the same (from what I can tell). Obviousl something is going on, but I am not sure what. So, I guess 2 questions How to know when swf file doesn't load right Why might it fail in a different container application? I am using ATL in Visual studio 2008, latest flash, MS Vista Thanks

Is there a COM object that just implements IUnknown I can use?

For an asynchronous Windows API, I can provide an IUnknown state parameter to associate calls to the API with calls from the callback. It's my understanding that COM guarantees that two IUnknown pointers to the same object will be of the same value. Thus, if I only want to associate API calls with callbacks, IUnknown should be all I need, by comparing the values of the pointers. Is there a stock implementation of IUnknown I can use? Of course it would be trivial to implement myself, but for such a base component of COM, I'm wondering if Windows or ATL provides one I should use instead. Thanks, --Matt

I'm trying to create a Mozilla browser plugin for the sole purpose of detecting with javascript whether or not an application that I have written is installed. This was inspired by another stackoverflow question and answer on a similar subject. All I want really is a HelloWorld type example as what I need to write will be even simpler than that. There is a lot of information on the Mozilla website, but as a plugin noob and a C++ novice I'm experiencing information overload. I just need a step by step "this is how to create your first simple plugin". I have already written the IE equivalent by following this ATL tutorial. This is the kind of level of guide that I would ideally like to find. Please note, this is specifically about Mozilla plugins and not extensions - Googling this subject brings up a lot of information about extensions in addition to plugins.

How to modyfy resource in a DLL from this DLL?

I'm writing an add-on for IE using VC++ and ATL. It's a simple DLL and I have a text file that I use as a resource. This answer helped me in doing this. I have a question about updating resource. MSDN describes how to do it but there is a function (BeginUpdateResource) that need filename of exe or dll with resource. Is it possible to update resource in my DLL from my DLL? I can easily read it that way, but to update I have to provide DLL's name. Is it necessary? Also if I won't give full path to my DLL it looks for file on desktop and not where DLL is stored. I don't know why this behave like this.

But it is written in ATL COM. So I am planning to work and build the Image viewer as follows: After reading the Image I will scale down to my viewer size, viwer is around 1000x1000. Lets call this Image Data as Display Data. Once displaying this data, I will work only this Display data. For all Image processing operation, I will use this display data and when user choose to save the image, I will apply all the operation to original Image data. My question is, Is is ok to use Display data for showing and initial image processing operations.
