  • My smtp server is spammed?

    - by Milos
    I have a server and the postfix client on it. Since several days, I noticed a lot of processes running there. When checked, there are a lot of emails sent. Here is an example from the mail log: Aug 18 11:54:56 mem postfix/smtpd[9963]: connect from dslb-188-096-082-167.188.096.pools.vodafone-ip.de[188.96.82.167] Aug 18 11:54:56 mem postfix/smtpd[9301]: connect from unknown[186.113.45.4] Aug 18 11:54:56 mem postfix/smtpd[9963]: 525E7114012D: client=dslb-188-096-082-167.188.096.pools.vodafone-ip.de[188.96.82.167] Aug 18 11:54:56 mem postfix/cleanup[9970]: 525E7114012D: message-id=<B55835C9027BFA9D16CCBB556DB2F48BB82DF004000480BA-db0c3ce8aa74446411898d0d2feb3001@email.filmforthoughtinc.com> Aug 18 11:54:56 mem postfix/qmgr[2581]: 525E7114012D: from=<[email protected]>, size=10702, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Aug 18 11:54:56 mem postfix/smtpd[9301]: EC52711401DC: client=unknown[186.113.45.4] Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/smtpd[9963]: disconnect from dslb-188-096-082-167.188.096.pools.vodafone-ip.de[188.96.82.167] Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/cleanup[8597]: EC52711401DC: message-id=<4C905D97606B436FE50C6F738DE014D9D84F2185BA815D81-1a4dbe6fc2bfcc8183f5faf901cfa15e@email.manguerasespecializadas.com> Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/smtp[9971]: 525E7114012D: to=<[email protected]>, relay=mail.mdpi.com[209.237.236.228]:25, delay=1.2, delays=0.55/0/0.45/0.16, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (host mail.mdpi.com[209.237.236.228] said: 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: mdpi.com (in reply to RCPT TO command)) Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/cleanup[10067]: 8B1E11140268: message-id=<[email protected]> Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/bounce[10001]: 525E7114012D: sender non-delivery notification: 8B1E11140268 Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/qmgr[2581]: 8B1E11140268: from=<>, size=12693, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/qmgr[2581]: 525E7114012D: removed Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/qmgr[2581]: EC52711401DC: from=<[email protected]>, size=10978, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/smtp[10013]: connect to aspmx.l.google.com[2607:f8b0:400d:c03::1b]:25: Network is unreachable Aug 18 11:54:57 mem postfix/smtpd[9301]: disconnect from unknown[186.113.45.4] Aug 18 11:54:58 mem postfix/smtp[10013]: 8B1E11140268: to=<[email protected]>, relay=aspmx.l.google.com[74.125.22.26]:25, delay=0.5, delays=0.06/0/0.28/0.16, dsn=5.1.1, status=bounced (host aspmx.l.google.com[74.125.22.26] said: 550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist.   • Block by file type, but just file extension using MDaemon

    - by Arjun Rajagopalan
I've had users sending copyrighted files (songs, videos) to each other over email. I blocked the file extensions .mp3 etc. What some users have done is to rename files to .doc etc. I cant block .doc etc filetypes because they are needed for day-to-day work. I'm using MDaemon 12 mailserver, Does anyone know how to make it block these attachments? I've been working on some content scanning for filetype code, but was wondering if there is a already made solution?

  • Attack from anonymous proxy

    - by mmgn
We got attacked by some very-bored teenagers registering in our forums and posting very explicit material using anonymous proxy websites, like http://proxify.com/ Is there a way to check the registration IP against a black list database? Has anyone experienced this and had success?

  • Setting up a fake email address to trap spammers

    - by Brent
I have heard it suggested that we set up a special email address, with it's only purpose being to be harvested. Then blacklisting every sender that targets this address. I'm wondering: if anyone else has tried this how do you go about doing it (ie - put the address in a hidden field on your website - or better ways?) does it work? Is there anything to watch out for when trying this (ie. legitimate senders using harvested addresses?)

  • Mail Server on Google Apps, Hotmail Blocks

    - by detay
My company provides private research tools (sites) for companies. Each site has its own domain name and users. These sites need to be able to send outbound mail for notifications such as password reminders. We started using Google Apps for this purpose, but lately we are having tremendous problems with mailing, especially to hotmail. I added the SPF record as required. Mxtoolbox says my domains are not in any blacklists. I was told to contact https://postmaster.live.com/snds/addnetwork.aspx and add my network. Given that I am using google's mail servers for sending mail, should I add their IP address for registering my domain? Or should I add my server's IP even though I am not hosting the mail server on it? Here's an example of a returned message; > Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: by 10.112.1.195 with SMTP > id 3csp62757lbo; > Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:42:55 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; > d=gmail.com; s=20120113; > h=mime-version:from:to:x-failed-recipients:subject:message-id:date > :content-type; > bh=x41JiCH75hsonh+5c/kzwIs7R8u4Hum2u396lkV3g2w=; > b=v+bBPvufqfVkNz2UrnhyyoGj1Cuwf6x/yMj0IXJgH27uJU7TqBOvbwnNHf33sQ7B9T > uGzxwryC2fmxBh72cGz1spwWK348nUp6KK73MXKnF8mpc3nPQ8Ke+EQpSPeJdq/7oZvd > scZTGpy//IiGEUDU5bJ7YPqYXQRycY5N6AF5iI4mWWwbS4opybp3IKpDDktu11p/YEEO > Fj9wnSCx3nLMXB/XZgSjjmnaluGhYNdh3JFtz83Vmr50qXTG/TuIXlkirP73GfGvIt2S > 7sy8/YdEbZR92mYe9wucditYr7MOuyjyYrZYCg+weXeTZiJX1PfBVieD+kD9MnCairnP > rQeQ== Received: by 10.14.215.197 with SMTP id e45mr52766237eep.0.1355164974784; > Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:42:54 -0800 (PST) MIME-Version: 1.0 Return-Path: <> Received: by 10.14.215.197 with SMTP id > e45mr65950764eep.0; Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:42:54 -0800 (PST) From: Mail > Delivery Subsystem <[email protected]> To: > [email protected] X-Failed-Recipients: ********@hotmail.fr > Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Message-ID: > <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2012 > 18:42:54 +0000 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 > > Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: > > *********@hotmail.fr > > Technical details of permanent failure: Message rejected. • How to setup a daily report of the top e-mail senders in Exchange 2010

    - by Belmin
We have had issues with compromised Exchange accounts sending a large amount of unsolicited e-mails out. We have mitigated this by using a cloud e-mail gateway that does a better job in detecting these outgoing messages as to not hurt our e-mail reputation. However, we would still like to detect any abnormal e-mail activities. One idea is a report of the Exchange accounts with the most outgoing message. Any idea on how to do this? Or a similar stat that may be indicative of an account being compromised?

  • Warning popups that direct to 3rd party sites

    - by Kingamoon
Lately, I've been getting warning popups on my browser (latest version of Chromium) that notify me that my Java version of current browser is outdated and needs to be updated. What's alarming to me is that it sends me to some sites I've never heard of like Malest.com. When I block a site, it redirects me to a different one. I don't know how to track what's causing these alerts. I ran Microsoft Security Essential and it found nothing. Any suggestions on what to do to nail down this irritating problem?

  • Spammers sending out from an inactive domain

    - by YesIWillFixYourEmailSigh
We have a shared hosting service running QMail and Plesk. One of our inactive clients was left active in the system by mistake, and spammers found their very weak passwords and sent out a massive barrage of messages before we caught the problem and shut off the services for that domain. My question is this: How did they get access to that domain in the first place? The client is long-gone and the domain/DNS is not pointing at our server at all, and neither is the MX record. So how were they able to find that domain and exploit it when nothing on the "outside" was pointing to it?

  • Best practices: Sending email on behalf of users

    - by Ben Doom
The company I work for provides testing services for the healthcare industry. As part of our services, we need to send email to our clients' employees. Typically, these are temp, part-time, or contract employees, and so have private email addresses (eg Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo!, etc). Up to now, we've been sending from an internal address, but this means that replies come back to us when employees aren't paying attention or don't know to send queries to our clients. I'd like to change this, so that the person who requests that the email is sent is the person that is replied to. We've used reply-to: in the past, but it seemed to cause additional mail to be trapped by spam filters. I've been reading about sender: and on-behalf-of: headers, and was wondering what the current best-practice was for sending email in a scenario where we need to send email such that the reply goes to a domain we don't control.

  • Setting up DomainKeys/DKIM in a PHP-based SMTP client

    - by Alex
It looks like there are some great libraries out there to do DomainKeys signing of emails on C#/.NET, but I'm having a really hard time finding the same kind of support for PHP. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? The only one I found is http://php-dkim.sourceforge.net/; it looks incredibly hacky and supports PHP4 only. Considering how popular PHP is, and how critical DomainKeys are for email classification as non-spam, I'd expect better tools; do you know of any? Any other tricks you'd recommend?

  • The Best solution to sending emails to group members in a social network.

    - by praveen
I'm developing a social network in php. There is a feature to create custom groups by members and i want to enable the owner of the group to send emails in bulk to all group members. And most importantly i want to make sure that most mails are not going to end up in users' SPAM list. I'm using PHPMailer in my website What should be the best and affordable approach? These are the solutions i came up with. Pls include your own if possible. Using my servers' (hostgator.com) given SMTP server to send emails in bulk Using google apps SMTP (i have even setup SPF for this) Using a third-party to handle my outgoing messages (i.e: mailChimp, iContact ? do they provide APIs ? this is just my idea) Thanks in advance

  • C# change e-mail 'from' address to a user-provided one.

    - by Jeff
We have an app that allows users to send e-mails from our system. It allows the user to specify their e-mail address, and gives them several standard templates to use as a starting point for their e-mail. When we send the e-mails, we use the address they provided as the 'reply-to', but the 'from' address of the e-mail (naturally) looks like our system (from '[email protected]'). Is there a way to change this without getting tangled up in spam filters or automatic blocking? We'd prefer not to confuse the recipient as to who actually composed the e-mail they've received.

  • How to prevent robots from automatically filling up a form?

    - by sombe
I'm trying to come up with a good enough anti-spamming mechanism to prevent automatically generated input. I've read that techniques like captcha, 1+1=? stuff work well, but they also present an extra step impeding the free quick use of the application. (I'm not looking for anything like that please). I've tried setting some hidden fields in all of my forms, with display: none; However, I'm almost certain a robot (which is essentially a program) can be configured to trace that form field id and simply not fill it. Do you implement/know of a good anti automatic-form-filling-robots method? Is there something that can be done seamlessly with HTML AND/OR server side processing, and be (almost) foolproof? (and please no JS, one could simply disable it, and there goes my anti-spam method). Btw I'm trying not to rely on sessions for this (like, counting how many times a button is clicked to prevent overloads).

  • PHP Email Form Sending Random Text

    - by Doug
Hi, I did a webpage for a client that involved a series of text boxes asking for specific information such as a person's name, e-mail address, company, etc. Along with a button that would e-mail the information to my client. Whenever I tested the button it seemed to work perfectly, I uploaded the page and thought I was done. But, the other day my client got this email from the site: Name: rfhopzdgmx rfhopzdgmx Email: [email protected] Company: zUDXatAfoDvQrdH Mailing Address: AaSsXklqpHIsoCNcei gXsimMPRBYZqq vGLvZraZNdpOAV, ChsmuibE PoKzaSCubXPRI Home Phone: CIJbIfjMfjIaTqAlD Work Phone: JFLZBOvru Cell Phone: XlFJTTFGiTTiiFQfy Fax: UEJMOVZodWPkKxew Comments: sPvSCE hgetwoguderu,* [url=http://atyktjlxcznl.com/]atyktjlxcznl[/url], [link=http://nudvfcehwpyg.com/]nudvfcehwpyg[/link], http://lvvwkbzbhnzp.com/ Note: The * line contained HTML link code, I just don't know how to get this site to show it. Here is the PHP code in the site for the e-mail button. <?php //This Sends A Formatted Text Email Using The Text Boxes if ($_POST['submit']){ //This Gets The Form Data $fname = $_POST['fName']; $lname = $_POST['lName']; $email = $_POST['email']; $company = $_POST['co']; $address1 = $_POST['address1']; $address2 = $_POST['address2']; $city = $_POST['city']; $state = $_POST['state']; $zip = $_POST['zip']; $homep = $_POST['homeP']; $workp = $_POST['workP']; $cellp = $_POST['cellP']; $fax = $_POST['fax']; $comments = $_POST['txaOutputField']; //echo "<script language = 'javascript'>alert('YAY');</script>"; if ($fname && $lname && $email && $comments){ //Check If Required Fields Are Filled //This Sets The SMTP Configuration In php.ini ini_set("SMTP", "smtp.2ndsourcewire.com"); //This Replaces Any Blank Fields With 'None's if ($company == ""){ $company = "None"; } if ($address1 == ""){ $address1 = "None"; } if ($city == ""){ $city = "None"; } if ($state == ""){ $state = "None"; } if ($zip == ""){ $zip = "None"; } if ($homep == ""){ $homep = "None"; } if ($workp == ""){ $workp = "None"; } if ($cellp == ""){ $cellp = "None"; } if ($fax == ""){ $fax = "None"; } //This Creates The Variables Necessary For The Email $to = "CLIENT EMAIL WHICH I'M CENSORING"; $subject = "Email from 2ndSourceWire.com"; $from = "From: [email protected]"; $secondEmail = "MY EMAIL WHICH I'M ALSO CENSORING"; if ($address2 == ""){ $body = "Name: $fname $lname\n". "Email: $email\n". "Company: $company\n\n". "Mailing Address:\n". "$address1\n". "$city, $state $zip\n\n". "Home Phone: $homep\n". "Work Phone: $workp\n". "Cell Phone: $cellp\n". "Fax: $fax\n\n". "Comments:\n". "$comments"; } else { $body = "Name: $fname $lname\n". "Email: $email\n". "Company: $company\n\n". "Mailing Address:\n". "$address1\n". "$address2\n". "$city, $state $zip\n\n". "Home Phone: $homep\n". "Work Phone: $workp\n". "Cell Phone: $cellp\n". "Fax: $fax\n\n". "Comments:\n". "$comments"; } //This Sends The Email mail($to, $subject, $body, $from); mail($secondEmail, $subject, $body, $from); echo "<script language = 'javascript'>alert('The email was sent successfully.');</script>"; } else { //The Required Fields Are Not Filled echo "<script language = 'javascript'>alert('Please fill your first name, last name, email address, and your comment or question.');</script>"; } } ? I'm a little dumbfounded on how this happened, the client mentioned a couple e-mails of this, so I don't think it is a random glitch. Also, the e-mail address was formatted like an e-mail address, so someone or some program was interpreting the labels next to each text box. I also noticed that the first and last names entered are the same word, even though they were in different text boxes, I'm thinking its some spam program, but wouldn't they try to advertise something and make money, rather than just spouting out random text? Also, the comments section makes no sense to me at all, the links goto nowhere and they're all perfectly formatted, a random person just screwing around wouldn't know those tags, and a programmer doing it wouldn't bother with it, but also neither would a program. I have no idea what caused this or how to fix it, I'm drawing a blank here. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Problem with number/type of arguments passed to an overloaded c++ constructor wrapped with swig.

    - by MiKo
I am trying to wrap a c++ class (let's call it "Spam") written by someone else with swig to expose it to Python. After solving several problems, I am able to import the module in python, but when I try to create an object of such class I obtain the following error: foo = Spam.Spam('abc',3) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "Spam.py", line 96, in __init__ this = _Spam.new_Spam(*args) NotImplementedError: Wrong number of arguments for overloaded function 'new_Spam'. Possible C/C++ prototypes are: Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool, unsigned int,SSTree::io_action,char const *) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool, unsigned int,SSTree::io_action) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool, unsigned int) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long, bool) Spam(unsigned char *,unsigned long) Googling around, I realized that the error is probably caused by the type of the arguments and not by the number (which is quite confusing), but I still cannot identify. I suspect the problem lies in passing a string as the first argument, but have no idea on how to fix it (keep in mind that I know almost no c/c++).

Only with time and hard work, that can you get an IT certification. Although there are hundreds of certifications for you to pick from, the basic steps to get certified are the same. The following steps are certain to clear your puzzles about the preparation process of your <. The first step to take is choosing a certification. It is simple but at the same time very important. Make sure to choose the certifications that are respected in your industries. The second step you should take is to evaluate your experience.
