  • Audio input problem in Ubuntu 9.10

    - by Andrea Ambu
    My audio input is a mix of my mic output and my sound card output. I'd like it to be just my mic output. I was able to do so in Ubuntu 9.04 but the interface is 9.10 is totally changed and I tried every my creativity was able to think. It's really annoying when talking to other people over the internet because they keep hearing their voice back. I'm not sure I explained it in clear way so I'll give you an example: What I do: I put an mp3 on play or a video on youtube then open a recorder and start to talk on my mic. What happens: both my voice and audio from mp3/youtube get reordered, even if I put headphones volume to 0 (via hardware). What I'd like to happen: Only my voice should be recorded. I'm sure I'm missing some technical term, but that's the problem and I'd like to solve it in Ubuntu 9.10, any idea?

  • Google Glasses–A new world in front of your eyes

    - by Gopinath
    Google is getting into a whole new business that would help us to see the world in a new dimension and free us from all gadgets we carry we today. Google Glasses is a wearable tiny computer that brings information in front of your eyes and lets you interact with it using voice commands. It’s a kind of glasses(spectacles) that you can wear to see and interact with the world in a new way.  With Google Glasses, for example you can look at a beautiful location and through voice you can instruct it to capture a photograph and share it to your friends. You don’t need a camera to capture the beautiful scene, you don’t need an App to upload and share it.  All you need is just Google Glasses By the way these glasses are not heavy head mountable stuff, they are very tiny one and look beautiful too. Check out the embedded video demo released by Google to see them in action and for sure you are going to be amazed.   Last year December 9 to 5 Google posted details about this secret project and NY Times says that these glasses would be available to everyone at affordable cost, anywhere between $250 and $600. It is powered by Android OS and the contains a GPS, motion sensor, camera, voice input & output devices. Check out Project Glass for more details.

  • Should Item Grouping/Filter be in the ViewModel or View layer?

    - by ronag
    I'm in a situation where I have a list of items that need to be displayed depending on their properties. What I'm unsure of is where is the best place to put the filtering/grouping logic of the viewmodel state? Currently I have it in my view using converters, but I'm unsure whether I should have the logic in the viewmodel? e.g. ViewModel Layer: class ItemViewModel { DateTime LastAccessed { get; set; } bool IsActive { get; set; } } class ContainerViewModel { ObservableCollection<Item> Items {get; set;} } View Layer: <TextView Text="Active Items"/> <List ItemsSource={Binding Items, Converter=GroupActiveItemsByDay}/> <TextView Text="Active Items"/> <List ItemsSource={Binding Items, Converter=GroupInActiveItemsByDay}/> or should I build it like this? ViewModel Layer: class ContainerViewModel { ObservableCollection<IGrouping<string, Item>> ActiveItemsByGroup {get; set;} ObservableCollection<IGrouping<string, Item>> InActiveItemsByGroup {get; set;} } View Layer: <TextView Text="Active Items"/> <List ItemsSource={Binding ActiveItemsGroupByDate }/> <TextView Text="Active Items"/> <List ItemsSource={Binding InActiveItemsGroupByDate }/> Or maybe something in between? ViewModel Layer: class ContainerViewModel { ObservableCollection<IGrouping<string, Item>> ActiveItems {get; set;} ObservableCollection<IGrouping<string, Item>> InActiveItems {get; set;} } View Layer: <TextView Text="Active Items"/> <List ItemsSource={Binding ActiveItems, Converter=GroupByDate }/> <TextView Text="Active Items"/> <List ItemsSource={Binding InActiveItems, Converter=GroupByDate }/> I guess my question is what is good practice in terms as to what logic to put into the ViewModel and what logic to put into the Binding in the View, as they seem to overlap a bit?

  • Entity Framework 4.0 and DDD patterns

    - by Voice
    Hi everybody I use EntityFramework as ORM and I have simple POCO Domain Model with two base classes that represent Value Object and Entity Object Patterns (Evans). These two patterns is all about equality of two objects, so I overrode Equals and GetHashCode methods. Here are these two classes: public abstract class EntityObject<T>{ protected T _ID = default(T); public T ID { get { return _ID; } protected set { _ID = value; } } public sealed override bool Equals(object obj) { EntityObject<T> compareTo = obj as EntityObject<T>; return (compareTo != null) && ((HasSameNonDefaultIdAs(compareTo) || (IsTransient && compareTo.IsTransient)) && HasSameBusinessSignatureAs(compareTo)); } public virtual void MakeTransient() { _ID = default(T); } public bool IsTransient { get { return _ID == null || _ID.Equals(default(T)); } } public override int GetHashCode() { if (default(T).Equals(_ID)) return 0; return _ID.GetHashCode(); } private bool HasSameBusinessSignatureAs(EntityObject<T> compareTo) { return ToString().Equals(compareTo.ToString()); } private bool HasSameNonDefaultIdAs(EntityObject<T> compareTo) { return (_ID != null && !_ID.Equals(default(T))) && (compareTo._ID != null && !compareTo._ID.Equals(default(T))) && _ID.Equals(compareTo._ID); } public override string ToString() { StringBuilder str = new StringBuilder(); str.Append(" Class: ").Append(GetType().FullName); if (!IsTransient) str.Append(" ID: " + _ID); return str.ToString(); } } public abstract class ValueObject<T, U> : IEquatable<T> where T : ValueObject<T, U> { private static List<PropertyInfo> Properties { get; set; } private static Func<ValueObject<T, U>, PropertyInfo, object[], object> _GetPropValue; static ValueObject() { Properties = new List<PropertyInfo>(); var propParam = Expression.Parameter(typeof(PropertyInfo), "propParam"); var target = Expression.Parameter(typeof(ValueObject<T, U>), "target"); var indexPar = Expression.Parameter(typeof(object[]), "indexPar"); var call = Expression.Call(propParam, typeof(PropertyInfo).GetMethod("GetValue", new[] { typeof(object), typeof(object[]) }), new[] { target, indexPar }); var lambda = Expression.Lambda<Func<ValueObject<T, U>, PropertyInfo, object[], object>>(call, target, propParam, indexPar); _GetPropValue = lambda.Compile(); } public U ID { get; protected set; } public override Boolean Equals(Object obj) { if (ReferenceEquals(null, obj)) return false; if (obj.GetType() != GetType()) return false; return Equals(obj as T); } public Boolean Equals(T other) { if (ReferenceEquals(null, other)) return false; if (ReferenceEquals(this, other)) return true; foreach (var property in Properties) { var oneValue = _GetPropValue(this, property, null); var otherValue = _GetPropValue(other, property, null); if (null == oneValue && null == otherValue) return false; if (false == oneValue.Equals(otherValue)) return false; } return true; } public override Int32 GetHashCode() { var hashCode = 36; foreach (var property in Properties) { var propertyValue = _GetPropValue(this, property, null); if (null == propertyValue) continue; hashCode = hashCode ^ propertyValue.GetHashCode(); } return hashCode; } public override String ToString() { var stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(); foreach (var property in Properties) { var propertyValue = _GetPropValue(this, property, null); if (null == propertyValue) continue; stringBuilder.Append(propertyValue.ToString()); } return stringBuilder.ToString(); } protected static void RegisterProperty(Expression<Func<T, Object>> expression) { MemberExpression memberExpression; if (ExpressionType.Convert == expression.Body.NodeType) { var body = (UnaryExpression)expression.Body; memberExpression = body.Operand as MemberExpression; } else memberExpression = expression.Body as MemberExpression; if (null == memberExpression) throw new InvalidOperationException("InvalidMemberExpression"); Properties.Add(memberExpression.Member as PropertyInfo); } } Everything was OK until I tried to delete some related objects (aggregate root object with two dependent objects which was marked for cascade deletion): I've got an exception "The relationship could not be changed because one or more of the foreign-key properties is non-nullable". I googled this and found http://blog.abodit.com/2010/05/the-relationship-could-not-be-changed-because-one-or-more-of-the-foreign-key-properties-is-non-nullable/ I changed GetHashCode to base.GetHashCode() and error disappeared. But now it breaks all my code: I can't override GetHashCode for my POCO objects = I can't override Equals = I can't implement Value Object and Entity Object patters for my POCO objects. So, I appreciate any solutions, workarounds here etc.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 strange behavior

    - by Voice
    Hi Recently I installed VS 2010 Release (migrated from RC) and my MVC application is not working anymore. More concrete: I have a wizard with several steps for new customer account creation (Jquery form wizard, but it doesn't really matter). Each step contains a typed partial View for each part of account: Company, Customer, Licence, etc. When I submit the form I see really strange thing in ModelState. There are duplicate keys for Company: with "Company" prefix and without it. Something like this: [6] "Company.Phone" string [12] "Phone" string My model state for all these keys is not valid because Company is actually null and validation fails. When it was RC there were no such keys with "Company" prefix. So these keys in ModelState with prefix "Company" appeared after I installed VS Release. Here is my code: Main View <div id="registerSteps"> <div id="firstStep" class="step"> <fieldset> <legend><%=Html.Encode(Register.CustomerInfo) %></legend> <% Html.RenderPartial("CustomerInfo", ViewData["newCust"]); %> </fieldset> </div> <div id="secondStep" class="step"> <fieldset> <legend><%=Html.Encode(Register.CompanyInfo) %></legend> <% Html.RenderPartial("CompanyInfo", ViewData["newComp"]); %> </fieldset> </div> <div id="thirdStep" class="step"> <fieldset> <legend><%=Html.Encode(Register.LicenceInfo) %></legend> <% Html.RenderPartial("LicenceInfo", ViewData["newLic"]); %> </fieldset> </div> <div id="lastStep" class="step"> <fieldset> <legend><%=Html.Encode(Register.PrivacyStatement) %></legend> <% Html.RenderPartial("PrivacyStatementInfo"); %> </fieldset> </div> <div id="registerNavigation"> <input class="navigation_button" value="Back" type="reset"/> <input class="navigation_button" value="Next" type="submit"/> </div> </div> Two partial views (to show that they are actually identical): Company: <div id="dCompanyInfo"> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(company => company.Name, Register.CompanyName) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(company => company.Name) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(company => company.Name) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(company => company.Phone, Register.Phone) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(company => company.Phone) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(company => company.Phone) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(company => company.Fax, Register.Fax) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(company => company.Fax) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(company => company.Fax) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(company => company.Size_ID, Register.CompanySize) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.ValueListDropDown(company => company.Size_ID, (CodeRoad.AQua.DomainModel.ValueList)ViewData["CompSize"], (string)ViewData["Culture"]) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(company => company.Size_ID) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(company => company.Industry_ID, Register.Industry) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.ValueListDropDown(company => company.Industry_ID, (CodeRoad.AQua.DomainModel.ValueList)ViewData["Industry"], (string)ViewData["Culture"]) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(company => company.Industry_ID) %> </div> </div> </div> And for Customer <div id="dCustomerInfo"> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(customer => customer.Email, Register.Email) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(customer => customer.Email) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(customer => customer.Email) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(customer => customer.Male, Register.Gender) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.ListBoolEditor(customer => customer.Male, Register.Male, Register.Female, Register.GenderOptionLabel) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(customer => customer.Male) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(customer => customer.FirstName, Register.FirstName) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(customer => customer.FirstName) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(customer => customer.FirstName) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(customer => customer.LastName, Register.LastName) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.TextBoxFor(customer => customer.LastName) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(customer => customer.LastName) %> </div> </div> <div> <div> <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(customer => customer.Role_ID, Register.Role) %> </div> <div> <%=Html.ValueListDropDown(customer => customer.Role_ID, (CodeRoad.AQua.DomainModel.ValueList)ViewData["OrgRole"], (string)ViewData["Culture"]) %> <%=Html.ValidationMessageFor(customer => customer.Role_ID) %> </div> </div> </div> There are some home made extension methods, but they worked pretty well in previous version (VS RC). Html which is generated is also ok, no "Company.Phone"-like stuff. So I wonder, where all these keys with "Company" came from and what can I do with that? I appreciate any solution.

  • JQuery form wizard and historyEnabled doesn't work

    Hi I'm trying Jquery form wizard http://plugins.jquery.com/project/formwizard And it seems to work until I use historyEnabled: true. Back button stops working (I see in that case history.back() is called, but actually it shows the same step all the time). So how can I fix this?

  • How to get the id of Updatepanel which initiated a postback

    - by Voice
    Hi I need to intercept server callback after udate panel async post back and determine which panel initiated the request. The code is pretty simple: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_pageLoaded(InterceptUpdateCallback); function InterceptUpdateCallback(sender, args) { var updatedPanels = args.get_panelsUpdated(); for (idx = 0; idx < updatedPanels.length; idx++) { if (updatedPanels[idx].id == "myUpdatePanel") { StartSmth(); break; } } } And it works when UpdatePanel is not inside another UpdatePanel. But when it is inside another UpdatePanel updatedPanels[idx].id has parent Updatepanel id. So how can I get the id of UpdatePanel which initiated the request (the inner UpdatePanel)? Thanx

  • Problems with Unity BuildUp Method

    - by Voice
    Hi everybody) I'm using Unity App Block for my project (version 1.2.0.0). I have a problem with Unity Container BuildUp method which I'm using for my ascx controls. Here is some code (that's pretty simple) public class BaseUserControl<T>:UserControl where T:class { protected override void OnInit(EventArgs e) { InjectDependencies(); base.OnInit(e); } protected virtual void InjectDependencies() { var context = HttpContext.Current; if (context == null) { return; } var accessor = context.ApplicationInstance as IContainerAccessor; if (accessor == null) { return; } var container = accessor.Container; if (container == null) { throw new InvalidOperationException("No Unity container found"); } container.BuildUp<T>(this as T); } } This method is called in base control for ascx controls in my solution. And here the property that should be injected in child control: [Dependency] private IStock Stock { get; set; } So after buildup Stock property is still empty. Resolve method works fine for IStock with the same container and configuration. I've tried buildup with simple test class with only one property IStock and got the same result. So what can be wrong with buildup?

  • Yet another blog about IValueConverter

    - by codingbloke
    After my previous blog on a Generic Boolean Value Converter I thought I might as well blog up another IValueConverter implementation that I use. The Generic Boolean Value Converter effectively converters an input which only has two possible values to one of two corresponding objects.  The next logical step would be to create a similar converter that can take an input which has multiple (but finite and discrete) values to one of multiple corresponding objects.  To put it more simply a Generic Enum Value Converter. Now we already have a tool that can help us in this area, the ResourceDictionary.  A simple IValueConverter implementation around it would create a StringToObjectConverter like so:- StringToObjectConverter using System; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Data; using System.Linq; using System.Windows.Markup; namespace SilverlightApplication1 {     [ContentProperty("Items")]     public class StringToObjectConverter : IValueConverter     {         public ResourceDictionary Items { get; set; }         public string DefaultKey { get; set; }                  public StringToObjectConverter()         {             DefaultKey = "__default__";         }         public virtual object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture)         {             if (value != null && Items.Contains(value.ToString()))                 return Items[value.ToString()];             else                 return Items[DefaultKey];         }         public virtual object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture)         {             return Items.FirstOrDefault(kvp => value.Equals(kvp.Value)).Key;         }     } } There are some things to note here.  The bulk of managing the relationship between an object instance and the related string key is handled by the Items property being an ResourceDictionary.  Also there is a catch all “__default__” key value which allows for only a subset of the possible input values to mapped to an object with the rest falling through to the default. We can then set one of these up in Xaml:-             <local:StringToObjectConverter x:Key="StatusToBrush">                 <ResourceDictionary>                     <SolidColorBrush Color="Red" x:Key="Overdue" />                     <SolidColorBrush Color="Orange" x:Key="Urgent" />                     <SolidColorBrush Color="Silver" x:Key="__default__" />                 </ResourceDictionary>             </local:StringToObjectConverter> You could well imagine that in the model being bound these key names would actually be members of an enum.  This still works due to the use of ToString in the Convert method.  Hence the only requirement for the incoming object is that it has a ToString implementation which generates a sensible string instead of simply the type name. I can’t imagine right now a scenario where this converter would be used in a TwoWay binding but there is no reason why it can’t.  I prefer to avoid leaving the ConvertBack throwing an exception if that can be be avoided.  Hence it just enumerates the KeyValuePair entries to find a value that matches and returns the key its mapped to. Ah but now my sense of balance is assaulted again.  Whilst StringToObjectConverter is quite happy to accept an enum type via the Convert method it returns a string from the ConvertBack method not the original input enum type that arrived in the Convert.  Now I could address this by complicating the ConvertBack method and examining the targetType parameter etc.  However I prefer to a different approach, deriving a new EnumToObjectConverter class instead. EnumToObjectConverter using System; namespace SilverlightApplication1 {     public class EnumToObjectConverter : StringToObjectConverter     {         public override object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture)         {             string key = Enum.GetName(value.GetType(), value);             return base.Convert(key, targetType, parameter, culture);         }         public override object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture)         {             string key = (string)base.ConvertBack(value, typeof(String), parameter, culture);             return Enum.Parse(targetType, key, false);         }     } }   This is a more belts and braces solution with specific use of Enum.GetName and Enum.Parse.  Whilst its more explicit in that the a developer has to  choose to use it, it is only really necessary when using TwoWay binding, in OneWay binding the base StringToObjectConverter would serve just as well. The observant might note that there is actually no “Generic” aspect to this solution in the end.  The use of a ResourceDictionary eliminates the need for that.

    I have a network with a router and a switch. At first my ISP's optical fiber is connected with media converter input port. Than Ethernet cable (output port of Media converter) is connected with the switch. Then an output Ethernet cable is connected with our inner Microtik router. Then this router is connected with another LAN switch. From this switch we have got every connection other switch. It is our total network structure. Our bandwidth is 2 Mbps. From the 11th of March our MRTG graph shows high all the time even when my all switch is switched off except LAN switch. That's why our line is breaking up (Voice call). How could be it possible? My all PC's bandwidth is limited but when connected PC with media converter directly then the graph shows normal. That's why I can't blame my ISP.

  • Error in loading component property (Swing GUI Forms)

    - by Christo Du Preez
    For no apparent reason all my Swing GUI forms using components linked to org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Converter started generating errors when trying to open the Design View: Error Error in loading component property: [JPanel]-filterTextField-converter. Cannot load property type class org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Converter. The property cannot be loaded. Errors occurred in loading... I'm currently using Netbeans 6.8. I opened my project in Netbeans 6.7.1 and all was fine but after a while the same thing happened. Looking at the .form and .java files and comparing it to previous backups, everything looks fine. Even my Netbeans tutorial project no longer works. What can cause this. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. • Loading a Template From a User Control

    - by Ricardo Peres
    What if you wanted to load a template (ITemplate property) from an external user control (.ascx) file? Yes, it is possible; there are a number of ways to do this, the one I'll talk about here is through a type converter. You need to apply a TypeConverterAttribute to your ITemplate property where you specify a custom type converter that does the job. This type converter relies on InstanceDescriptor. Here is the code for it: public class TemplateTypeConverter: TypeConverter { public override Boolean CanConvertFrom(ITypeDescriptorContext context, Type sourceType) { return ((sourceType == typeof(String)) || (base.CanConvertFrom(context, sourceType) == true)); } public override Boolean CanConvertTo(ITypeDescriptorContext context, Type destinationType) { return ((destinationType == typeof(InstanceDescriptor)) || (base.CanConvertTo(context, destinationType) == true)); } public override Object ConvertTo(ITypeDescriptorContext context, CultureInfo culture, Object value, Type destinationType) { if (destinationType == typeof(InstanceDescriptor)) { Object objectFactory = value.GetType().GetField("_objectFactory", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance).GetValue(value); Object builtType = objectFactory.GetType().BaseType.GetField("_builtType", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance).GetValue(objectFactory); MethodInfo loadTemplate = typeof(TemplateTypeConverter).GetMethod("LoadTemplate"); return (new InstanceDescriptor(loadTemplate, new Object [] { "~/" + (builtType as Type).Name.Replace('_', '/').Replace("/ascx", ".ascx") })); } return base.ConvertTo(context, culture, value, destinationType); } public static ITemplate LoadTemplate(String virtualPath) { using (Page page = new Page()) { return (page.LoadTemplate(virtualPath)); } } } And, on your control: public class MyControl: Control { [Browsable(false)] [TypeConverter(typeof(TemplateTypeConverter))] public ITemplate Template { get; set; } } This allows the following declaration: Hope this helps! SyntaxHighlighter.config.clipboardSwf = 'http://alexgorbatchev.com/pub/sh/2.0.320/scripts/clipboard.swf'; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.CSharp.aliases = ['c#', 'c-sharp', 'csharp']; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.Xml.aliases = ['xml']; SyntaxHighlighter.all();

  • Metro: Dynamically Switching Templates with a WinJS ListView

    - by Stephen.Walther
    Imagine that you want to display a list of products using the WinJS ListView control. Imagine, furthermore, that you want to use different templates to display different products. In particular, when a product is on sale, you want to display the product using a special “On Sale” template. In this blog entry, I explain how you can switch templates dynamically when displaying items with a ListView control. In other words, you learn how to use more than one template when displaying items with a ListView control. Creating the Data Source Let’s start by creating the data source for the ListView. Nothing special here – our data source is a list of products. Two of the products, Oranges and Apples, are on sale. (function () { "use strict"; var products = new WinJS.Binding.List([ { name: "Milk", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Oranges", price: 1.99, onSale: true }, { name: "Wine", price: 8.55 }, { name: "Apples", price: 2.44, onSale: true }, { name: "Steak", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Eggs", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Mushrooms", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Yogurt", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Soup", price: 1.99 }, { name: "Cereal", price: 2.44 }, { name: "Pepsi", price: 1.99 } ]); WinJS.Namespace.define("ListViewDemos", { products: products }); })(); The file above is saved with the name products.js and referenced by the default.html page described below. Declaring the Templates and ListView Control Next, we need to declare the ListView control and the two Template controls which we will use to display template items. The markup below appears in the default.html file: <!-- Templates --> <div id="productItemTemplate" data-win-control="WinJS.Binding.Template"> <div class="product"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> </div> </div> <div id="productOnSaleTemplate" data-win-control="WinJS.Binding.Template"> <div class="product onSale"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> (On Sale!) </div> </div> <!-- ListView --> <div id="productsListView" data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource: ListViewDemos.products.dataSource, layout: { type: WinJS.UI.ListLayout } }"> </div> In the markup above, two Template controls are declared. The first template is used when rendering a normal product and the second template is used when rendering a product which is on sale. The second template, unlike the first template, includes the text “(On Sale!)”. The ListView control is bound to the data source which we created in the previous section. The ListView itemDataSource property is set to the value ListViewDemos.products.dataSource. Notice that we do not set the ListView itemTemplate property. We set this property in the default.js file. Switching Between Templates All of the magic happens in the default.js file. The default.js file contains the JavaScript code used to switch templates dynamically. Here’s the entire contents of the default.js file: (function () { "use strict"; var app = WinJS.Application; app.onactivated = function (eventObject) { if (eventObject.detail.kind === Windows.ApplicationModel.Activation.ActivationKind.launch) { WinJS.UI.processAll().then(function () { var productsListView = document.getElementById("productsListView"); productsListView.winControl.itemTemplate = itemTemplateFunction; });; } }; function itemTemplateFunction(itemPromise) { return itemPromise.then(function (item) { // Select either normal product template or on sale template var itemTemplate = document.getElementById("productItemTemplate"); if (item.data.onSale) { itemTemplate = document.getElementById("productOnSaleTemplate"); }; // Render selected template to DIV container var container = document.createElement("div"); itemTemplate.winControl.render(item.data, container); return container; }); } app.start(); })(); In the code above, a function is assigned to the ListView itemTemplate property with the following line of code: productsListView.winControl.itemTemplate = itemTemplateFunction;   The itemTemplateFunction returns a DOM element which is used for the template item. Depending on the value of the product onSale property, the DOM element is generated from either the productItemTemplate or the productOnSaleTemplate template. Using Binding Converters instead of Multiple Templates In the previous sections, I explained how you can use different templates to render normal products and on sale products. There is an alternative approach to displaying different markup for normal products and on sale products. Instead of creating two templates, you can create a single template which contains separate DIV elements for a normal product and an on sale product. The following default.html file contains a single item template and a ListView control bound to the template. <!-- Template --> <div id="productItemTemplate" data-win-control="WinJS.Binding.Template"> <div class="product" data-win-bind="style.display: onSale ListViewDemos.displayNormalProduct"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> </div> <div class="product onSale" data-win-bind="style.display: onSale ListViewDemos.displayOnSaleProduct"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> (On Sale!) </div> </div> <!-- ListView --> <div id="productsListView" data-win-control="WinJS.UI.ListView" data-win-options="{ itemDataSource: ListViewDemos.products.dataSource, itemTemplate: select('#productItemTemplate'), layout: { type: WinJS.UI.ListLayout } }"> </div> The first DIV element is used to render a normal product: <div class="product" data-win-bind="style.display: onSale ListViewDemos.displayNormalProduct"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> </div> The second DIV element is used to render an “on sale” product: <div class="product onSale" data-win-bind="style.display: onSale ListViewDemos.displayOnSaleProduct"> <span data-win-bind="innerText:name"></span> <span data-win-bind="innerText:price"></span> (On Sale!) </div> Notice that both templates include a data-win-bind attribute. These data-win-bind attributes are used to show the “normal” template when a product is not on sale and show the “on sale” template when a product is on sale. These attributes set the Cascading Style Sheet display attribute to either “none” or “block”. The data-win-bind attributes take advantage of binding converters. The binding converters are defined in the default.js file: (function () { "use strict"; var app = WinJS.Application; app.onactivated = function (eventObject) { if (eventObject.detail.kind === Windows.ApplicationModel.Activation.ActivationKind.launch) { WinJS.UI.processAll(); } }; WinJS.Namespace.define("ListViewDemos", { displayNormalProduct: WinJS.Binding.converter(function (onSale) { return onSale ? "none" : "block"; }), displayOnSaleProduct: WinJS.Binding.converter(function (onSale) { return onSale ? "block" : "none"; }) }); app.start(); })(); The ListViewDemos.displayNormalProduct binding converter converts the value true or false to the value “none” or “block”. The ListViewDemos.displayOnSaleProduct binding converter does the opposite; it converts the value true or false to the value “block” or “none” (Sadly, you cannot simply place a NOT operator before the onSale property in the binding expression – you need to create both converters). The end result is that you can display different markup depending on the value of the product onSale property. Either the contents of the first or second DIV element are displayed: Summary In this blog entry, I’ve explored two approaches to displaying different markup in a ListView depending on the value of a data item property. The bulk of this blog entry was devoted to explaining how you can assign a function to the ListView itemTemplate property which returns different templates. We created both a productItemTemplate and productOnSaleTemplate and displayed both templates with the same ListView control. • Adventures in MVVM &ndash; My ViewModel Base &ndash; Silverlight Support!

    - by Brian Genisio's House Of Bilz
    More Adventures in MVVM In my last post, I outlined the powerful features that are available in the ViewModelSupport.  It takes advantage of the dynamic features of C# 4.0 (as well as some 3.0 goodies) to help eliminate the plumbing that often comes with writing ViewModels.  If you are interested in learning about the capabilities, please take a look at that post and look at the code on CodePlex.  When I wrote about the ViewModel base class, I complained that the features did not work in Silverlight because as of 4.0, it does not support binding to dynamic properties.  Although I still think this is a bummer, I am happy to say that I have come up with a workaround.  In the Silverlight version of my base class, I include a PropertyCollectionConverter that lets you bind to dynamic properties in the ViewModelBase, especially the convention-based commands that the base class supports. To take advantage of any properties that are not statically defined, you can bind to the Properties property of the ViewModel and pass in a converter parameter for the name of the property you want to bind. For example, a ViewModel that looks like this: public class ExampleViewModel : ViewModelBase { public void Execute_MyCommand() { Set("Text", "Foo"); } } Can bind to the dynamic property and the convention-based command with the following XAML. <TextBlock Text="{Binding Properties, Converter={StaticResource PropertiesConverter}, ConverterParameter=Text}" Margin="5" /> <Button Content="Execute MyCommand" Command="{Binding Properties, Converter={StaticResource PropertiesConverter}, ConverterParameter=MyCommand}" Margin="5" /> Of course, it is not as pretty as binding to Text and MyCommand like you can in WPF.  But, it is better than having a failed feature.  This allows you to share your ViewModels between WPF and Silverlight very easily.  <BeatDeadHorse>Hopefully, in Silverlight 5.0, we will see binding to dynamic properties more directly????</BeatDeadHorse>

  • Is there a client for Google Talk, for Mac, that allows phone calls?

    - by xtraorange
    I'm having no luck finding a client for Google Talk that is both for Mac (OSX) and that allows phone calls (not just chatting with other Google Talk users). If I leave the browser page open to gmail, it will ring when I receive a call to my Google Voice number, and I can call out from my Google Voice number, but I don't want to use the browser. Is there any sort of client, for Mac, that will allow calls through Google Talk?
