• ms excel 2010 in windows xp - when open workbook the data is formatted differently than when i saved it

  I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have multiple files that I use regularly in excel that now have cell formats of "date". Every single cell in the entire workbook (all sheets) is now formatted as "date". The problem is that I lost my formatting for percents, numbers years, etc and now everything is converted to date (xx/xx/xxxx). I am able to open previously saved versions of a file (prior to me having the problem) and the cells are formatted as I intend them to be (percents, numbers, general, as well as dates). Since this has happened on a couple different files recently, I am wondering how this is happening and how do I prevent it from happening in the future. I cannot cure the problem just by highlighting the entire sheet and converting back to general because I lose all my percents and number formatting. • Find only physical network adapters with WMI Win32_NetworkAdapter class

  WMI is Windows Management Instrumentation infrastructure for managing data and machines. We can access it by using WQL (WMI querying language or SQL for WMI). One thing to remember from the WQL link is that it doesn't support ORDER BY. This means that when you do SELECT * FROM wmiObject, the returned order of the objects is not guaranteed. It can return adapters in different order based on logged-in user, permissions of that user, etc… This is not documented anywhere that I've looked and is derived just from my observations. To get network adapters we have to query the Win32_NetworkAdapter class. This returns us all network adapters that windows detect, real and virtual ones, however it only supplies IPv4 data. I've tried various methods of combining properties that are common on all systems since Windows XP. The first thing to do to remove all virtual adapters (like tunneling, WAN miniports, etc…) created by Microsoft. We do this by adding WHERE Manufacturer!='Microsoft' to our WMI query. This greatly narrows the number of adapters we have to work with. Just on my machine it went from 20 adapters to 5. What was left were one real physical Realtek LAN adapter, 2 virtual adapters installed by VMware and 2 virtual adapters installed by VirtualBox. If you read the Win32_NetworkAdapter help page you'd notice that there's an AdapterType that enumerates various adapter types like LAN or Wireless and AdapterTypeID that gives you the same information as AdapterType only in integer form. The dirty little secret is that these 2 properties don't work. They are both hardcoded, AdapterTypeID to "0" and AdapterType to "Ethernet 802.3". The only exceptions I've seen so far are adapters that have no values at all for the two properties, "RAS Async Adapter" that has values of AdapterType = "Wide Area Network" and AdapterTypeID = "3" and various tunneling adapters that have values of AdapterType = "Tunnel" and AdapterTypeID = "15". In the help docs there isn't even a value for 15. So this property was of no help. Next property to give hope is NetConnectionId. This is the name of the network connection as it appears in the Control Panel -> Network Connections. Problem is this value is also localized into various languages and can have different names for different connection. So both of these properties don't help and we haven't even started talking about eliminating virtual adapters. Same as the previous one this property was also of no help. Next two properties I checked were ConfigManagerErrorCode and NetConnectionStatus in hopes of finding disabled and disconnected adapters. If an adapter is enabled but disconnected the ConfigManagerErrorCode = 0 with different NetConnectionStatus. If the adapter is disabled it reports ConfigManagerErrorCode = 22. This looked like a win by using (ConfigManagerErrorCode=0 or ConfigManagerErrorCode=22) in our condition. This way we get enabled (connected and disconnected adapters). Problem with all of the above properties is that none of them filter out the virtual adapters installed by virtualization software like VMware and VirtualBox. The last property to give hope is PNPDeviceID. There's an interesting observation about physical and virtual adapters with this property. Every virtual adapter PNPDeviceID starts with "ROOT\". Even VMware and VirtualBox ones. There were some really, really old physical adapters that had PNPDeviceID starting with "ROOT\" but those were in pre win XP era AFAIK. Since my minimum system to check was Windows XP SP2 I didn't have to worry about those. The only virtual adapter I've seen to not have PNPDeviceID start with "ROOT\" is the RAS Async Adapter for Wide Area Network. But because it is made by Microsoft we've eliminated it with the first condition for the manufacturer. Using the PNPDeviceID has so far proven to be really effective and I've tested it on over 20 different computers of various configurations from Windows XP laptops with wireless and bluetooth cards to virtualized Windows 2008 R2 servers. So far it always worked as expected. I will appreciate you letting me know if you find a configuration where it doesn't work. • External USB attached drive works in Windows XP but not in Windows 7. How to fix?

  Earlier this week I purchased this "N52300 EZQuest Pro" external hard drive enclosure from here. I can connect the enclosure using USB 2.0 and access the files in both NTFS partitions on the MBR partitioned drive when I use either Windows XP (SP3) or Mac OS X 10.6. So it works as expected in XP & Snow Leopard. However, the enclosure does not work in Windows 7 (Home Premium) either 64-bit or 32-bit or in Ubuntu 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-23-generic). I'm thinking this must be a Windows 7 driver problem because the enclosure works in XP & Snow Leopard. I do know that no special drivers are required to use this enclosure. It is supported using the USB mass storage drivers included with XP and OS X. It should also work fine using the mass storage support in Windows 7, no? FWIW, I have also tried using 32-bit Windows 7 on both my desktop, a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 with a Pentium Dual-Core E6500 @ 2.93GHz, and on my early 2008 MacBook. I see the same failure in both cases that I see with 64-bit Windows 7. So it doesn't appear to be specific to one hardware platform. I'm hoping someone out there can help me either get the enclosure to work in Windows 7 or convince me that the enclosure hardware is bad and should be RMAed. At the moment though an RMA seems pointless since this appears to be a (Windows 7) device driver problem. I have tried to track down any updates to the mass storage drivers included with Windows 7 but have so far come up empty. Heck, I can't even figure out how to place a bug report with Microsoft since apparently the grace period for Windows 7 email support is only a few months. I came across a link to some USB troubleshooting steps in another question. I haven't had a chance to look over the suggestions on that site or try them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I have time ... ;-) I'll finish up with some more details about the problem. When I connect the enclosure using USB to Windows 7 at first it appears everything worked. Windows detects the drive and installs a driver for it. Looking in Device Manager there is an entry under the Hard Drives section with the title, Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device. When you open Windows Disk Management the first time after the enclosure has been attached the drive appears as "Not initialize" and I'm prompted to initialize it. This is bogus. After all, the drive worked fine in XP so I know it has already been initialized, partitioned, and formatted. So of course I never try to initialize it "again". (It's a 1 GB drive and I don't want to lose the data on it). Except for this first time, the drive never shows up in Disk Management again unless I uninstall the Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 USB Device entry under Hard Drives, unplug, and then replug the enclosure. If I do that then the process in the previous paragraph repeats. In Ubuntu the enclosure never shows up at all at the file system level. Below are an excerpt from kern.log and an excerpt from the result of lsusb -v after attaching the enclosure. It appears that Ubuntu at first recongnizes the enclosure and is attempting to attach it, but encounters errors which prevent it from doing so. Today I recieved a 1394b 9 pin to 1394a 6 pin cable which allowed me to connect the "EZQuest Pro" via Firewire. Everything works. When I use Firewire I can connect whether I'm using Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.04. I even tried booting my Gigabyte desktop as an OS X 10.6.3 Hackintosh and it worked there as well. (Though if I recall correctly, it also worked when using USB 2.0 and booting OS X on the desktop. Certainly it works with USB 2.0 and my MacBook.) I believe the firmware on the device is at the latest level available, v1.07. I base this on the excerpt below from the OS X System Profiler which shows Firmware Revision: 0x107. Bottom line: It's nice that the enclosure is actually usable when I connect with Firewire. But I am still searching for an answer as to why it does not work correctly when using USB 2.0 in Windows 7 (and Ubuntu ... but really Windows 7 is my biggest concern).   I want to create a timetable in a jTable. For the top row it will display from monday to sunday and the left colume will display the time of the day with 2h interval e.g 1st colume (0000 - 0200), 2nd colume (0200 - 0400) .... And if i click a button the timing will change from 2h interval to 1h interval. I do not want to hardcode it because i need to do for 2h, 1h, 30min , 15min, 1min, 30sec and 1 sec interval and it will take too long for me to hardcode. Can anyone show me an example or help me create an example for the 2h to 1h interval so that i know what to do?   I have data like the following: Both Hour and Count are columns in an excel file. What's the easiest way to do this. The chart should have a horizontal axis that runs from 1 to 24; and a vertical axis that goes from 0 on up. • RHEL 5.5 Yum Update Fails Dependency Error

  I have 30 different RHEL 5.5 machines that will not update some 33 packages via Yum. Does anyone know why these packages will not install and how to correct this? Yum clean all does not fix the issue, however skip broken will allow other updates to install but I am really after a way to clear this up for good. Whereby if we have a domain in the database backend with records, if a query is unable to resolve a subdomain it would then query the recursor setup in the pdns.conf file. We have found that on Centos 6.x the rpm packages are the latest verison of pdns where by 5.x available was pdns-2.9.22-4.el5. The pdns-2.9.22-4.el5 package works as expected but when upgrading servers to Centos 6.x we loose this required functionality. pdns-backend-mysql-2.9.22-4.el5.rpm fails to install on Centos 6.x due to mysql libs that aren't availble, this is caused by an upgrade in the mysql version whereby the pdns backend mysql requires older mysql libs then what is available on centos 6.x . I have followed all the steps, but I see that when I try to connect to it in Windows, it doesn't allow me, it just hangs on connecting, so I did a nmap scan and I see that port 1194 is not open so naturally I append the rule to open 1194 with: iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 1194 -j ACCEPT followed by service iptables save and service iptables restart which all executed successfully. Then I try again, but it doesn't work and another nmap scan says that port 1194 is closed. • How do I get confidence intervals without inverting a singular Hessian matrix?

  Hello. I recently posted this to reddit and it was suggested I come here, so here I am. I'm a student working on an epidemiology model in R, using maximum likelihood methods. I created my negative log likelihood function. It's sort of gross looking, but here it is: NLLdiff = function(v1, CV1, v2, CV2, st1 = (czI01 - czV01), st2 = (czI02 - czV02), st01 = czI01, st02 = czI02, tt1 = czT01, tt2 = czT02) { prob1 = (1 + v1 * CV1 * tt1)^(-1/CV1) prob2 = ( 1 + v2 * CV2 * tt2)^(-1/CV2) -(sum(dbinom(st1, st01, prob1, log = T)) + sum(dbinom(st2, st02, prob2, log = T))) } The reason the first line looks so awful is because most of the data it takes is inputted there. czI01, for example, is already declared. I did this simply so that my later calls to the function don't all have to have awful vectors in them. I then optimized for CV1, CV2, v1 and v2 using mle2 (library bbmle). That's also a bit gross looking, and looks like: ml.cz.diff = mle2 (NLLdiff, start=list(v1 = vguess, CV1 = cguess, v2 = vguess, CV2 = cguess), method="L-BFGS-B", lower = 0.0001) Now, everything works fine up until here. ml.cz.diff gives me values that I can turn into a plot that reasonably fits my data. I also have several different models, and can get AICc values to compare them. However, when I try to get confidence intervals around v1, CV1, v2 and CV2 I have problems. Basically, I get a negative bound on CV1, which is impossible as it actually represents a square number in the biological model as well as some warnings. The warnings are this: http://i.imgur.com/B3H2l.png . Is there a better way to get confidence intervals? Or, really, a way to get confidence intervals that make sense here? What I see happening is that, by coincidence, my hessian matrix is singular for some values in the optimization space. But, since I'm optimizing over 4 variables and don't have overly extensive programming knowledge, I can't come up with a good method of optimization that doesn't rely on the hessian. I have googled the problem - it suggested that my model's bad, but I'm reconstructing some work done before which suggests that my model's really not awful (the plots I make using the ml.cz.diff look like the plots of the original work). I have also read the relevant parts of the manual as well as Bolker's book Ecological Models in R. I have also tried different optimization methods, which resulted in a longer run time but the same errors. The "SANN" method didn't finish running within an hour, so I didn't wait around to see the result. tl;dr : my confidence intervals are bad, is there a relatively straightforward way to fix them in R. • Utility to put taskbar on multiple monitors with task grouping?

  Right now I use UltraMon to extend my taskbar across multiple monitors. So windows on the first monitor show up on the taskbar on the first monitor, and windows on the second monitor show up on the taskbar on the second monitor. However, UltraMon does not support "Task Grouping", a feature in Windows since XP. Basically if you have many windows open, it will group together windows from the same app in a single taskbar entry. So if I have 22 explorer windows open, I'll only see a single explorer entry, and if I click it, a menu of the 22 windows shows up. Ultramon doesn't support this, instead I see 22 taskbar entries. Are there any utilities (or built in to windows 7 ways?) that will extend the taskbar across multiple monitors, and support task grouping on the secondary monitors?

• Cisco PIX 515 doesn't seem to be passing traffic through according to static route

  Ok, so I am having a spot of bother with a Cisco PIX515, I have posted the current running config below, now I am no cisco expert by any means although I can do basic stuff with them, now I am having trouble with traffic sent from the outside to address: 10.75.32.25 it just doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Now this firewall is deep inside a private network, with an upstream firewall that we don't manage. I have spoken to the people that look after that firewall and they say they they have traffic routing to 10.75.32.21 and 10.75.32.25 and thats it (although there is a website that runs from the server 172.16.102.5 which (if my understanding is correct) gets traffic via 10.75.32.23. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to me it should all just work, but its not (obviously if the config is all correct then there could be a problem with the web server that we are trying to • Want to add a new domain to my postfix, but mails not delivered (mail look back to myself)

  Hi everybody, My host relay is working but I was aksed to add a new domain (like external.example.com). I have added in main.cf the new fqdn in relay_domains relay_domains = $mydestination, example.com,example2.com, externe.example.com and in transport example.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] example2.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] external.example.com smtp:[192.168.1.22] Mails sent to users with example.com and example2.com domain are well delivered. But for mails to external.example.com i got this message Mar 17 16:47:52 relayhost postfix/smtp[11948]: 754E1876A01: to=<[email protected]>, relay=relayhost2.example.com[80.81.82.83]:25, delay=19555, delays=19525/0.01/30/0, dsn=4.4.6, status=deferred (mail for external.example.com loops back to myself) I read another Q/A about the same issue right here, but it's not helping me. • VMWare tools on Ubuntu Server 10.10 kernel source problem

  After install and running the vm-ware config, the config needs my kernel headers to compile some modules, ok, so I'll give it them, but it just won't work. It asks for the path of the directory of C header files that match my running kernel. If I uname -r I get 2.6.35-22-generic-pae So I tell it the source path is /lib/modules/2.6.25-22-generic-pae/build/include and it returns "The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.35-22-generic-pae). ..I'm confused? can anyone offer suggestions please? I installed hte kernel source andh eaders myself using sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

  I have 6 scripts that each take about 20 minutes to run, I want to schedule cron to run the first 3 at 00, 20, and 40 on the odd hours and the second 3 at the same intervals on the even hours. • simplejson double escapes data causing invalid JSON string

  I have a simple form for managing manufacturers in my shop. After posting form, ajax call returns json with updated data to the form. Problem is, that the returned string is invalid. It looks like it was double-escaped. Strangely similar approach across the whole shop works without any problems. I'm also using jquery 1.6 as javascript framework. Model contains of 3 fields : char for name, text for description and image field for manufacturer logo. • OpenBSD has open ports in default installation

  I have been considering replacing Ubuntu with OpenBSD to improve the security on my local server. I need to have ssh access to it, and I also need it to serve static web content - so the only ports I need open are 22 and 80. However, when I scan my server for open ports after installing OpenBSD 4.8, and enabling ssh and http at /etc/rc.conf httpd_flags="" sshd_flags="" I discovered that it had several other open ports: Port Scan has started… Port Scanning host: 192.168.56.102 Open TCP Port: 13 daytime Open TCP Port: 22 ssh Open TCP Port: 37 time Open TCP Port: 80 http Open TCP Port: 113 ident ssh (22) and http (80) should be open as I enabled httpd and sshd, but why are the other ports open, and should I worry about them creating additional security vulnerabilities? Should they be open in a default installation?
