  • How to rebuild fstab automatically

    - by yvoyer
    I accidentally removed all the entries from the fstab files while doing a backup (Yeah, I know ;)). I would like to know if there is a way to rebuild it with the current mount options, since I did not restart the server since the deletion. If there is no such program, could anybody help me rebuild it. Using this, I have found the command to show the current setup, but I don't know what to do with it. $ sudo blkid /dev/sda1: UUID="3fc55e0f-a9b3-4229-9e76-ca95b4825a40" TYPE="ext4" /dev/sda5: UUID="718e611d-b8a3-4f02-a0cc-b3025d8db54d" TYPE="swap" /dev/sdb1: LABEL="Files_Server_Int" UUID="02fc2eda-d9fb-47fb-9e60-5fe3073e5b55" TYPE="ext4" /dev/sdc1: UUID="41e60bc2-2c9c-4104-9649-6b513919df4a" TYPE="ext4" /dev/sdd1: LABEL="Expansion Drive" UUID="782042B920427E5E" TYPE="ntfs" $ cat /etc/mtab /dev/sda1 / ext4 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 0 proc /proc proc rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev 0 0 none /sys sysfs rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev 0 0 none /sys/fs/fuse/connections fusectl rw 0 0 none /sys/kernel/debug debugfs rw 0 0 none /sys/kernel/security securityfs rw 0 0 none /dev devtmpfs rw,mode=0755 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=0620 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev 0 0 none /var/run tmpfs rw,nosuid,mode=0755 0 0 none /var/lock tmpfs rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev 0 0 none /lib/init/rw tmpfs rw,nosuid,mode=0755 0 0 none /var/lib/ureadahead/debugfs debugfs rw,relatime 0 0 /dev/sdc1 /home ext4 rw 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /media/Files_Server ext4 rw 0 0 binfmt_misc /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc binfmt_misc rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev 0 0 /dev/sdd1 /media/Expansion\040Drive fuseblk rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions 0 0 gvfs-fuse-daemon /home/yvoyer/.gvfs fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon rw,nosuid,nodev,user=yvoyer 0 0 /dev/sdd1 /media/Backup500 fuseblk rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions 0 0 /dev/sr0 /media/DIR-615 iso9660 ro,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,mode=0400,dmode=0500 0 0 gvfs-fuse-daemon /home/cdrapeau/.gvfs fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon rw,nosuid,nodev,user=cdrapeau 0 0

  • Hide icons encrypted file system partitions in Nautilus

    - by Eddy Pronk
I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 from the alternate CD. It has an encrypted root and swap partition. The root partition is visible in Nautilus as 'File Syste' icon. There is another icon "216 GB Filesystem". If I click it says: Unable to mount 216 GB Filesystem. /dev/mapper/sda5_crypt is mounted. Then there is another icon "6.1 GB Swap Space". If I click it it says: Unable to mount 6.1 GB Swap Space. Not a mountable file system. How can I hide these last two icons? • Unable to mount an LVM Hard-drive after upgrade

    - by Bruce Staples
I imagine this is a basic gotcha ... but I can't see it. I have a system with 2(physical) harddrives. The boot system (/dev/sda) was running 10.04 & the second drive (/dev/sdb) was just a mounted filesystem. I did a clean load of Ubuntu 12.04 overwriting /dev/sda (not an upgrade) & now cannot mount the second drive. so I do not know what to enter it into the fstab ... I had expected to use: /dev/sdb /tera ext4 defaults 0 2 But even manual mounting fails (I also have tried various "-t" options on the off chance!) sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/sdb1 /tera mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so Output from disk queries indicate that it is a Linux LVM & a healthy disk still. sudo lshw -C disk *-disk:0 description: ATA Disk product: WDC WD5000AACS-0 vendor: Western Digital physical id: 0 bus info: scsi@2:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/sda version: 01.0 serial: WD-WCASU1401098 size: 465GiB (500GB) capabilities: partitioned partitioned:dos configuration: ansiversion=5 signature=00015a55 *-disk:1 description: ATA Disk product: WDC WD10EADS-00L vendor: Western Digital physical id: 1 bus info: scsi@3:0.0.0 logical name: /dev/sdb version: 01.0 serial: WD-WCAU47836304 size: 931GiB (1TB) capabilities: partitioned partitioned:dos configuration: ansiversion=5 sudo fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500106780160 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976771055 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00015a55 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 2048 972580863 486289408 83 Linux /dev/sda2 972582910 976769023 2093057 5 Extended /dev/sda5 972582912 976769023 2093056 82 Linux swap / Solaris Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders, total 1953525168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 1953525167 976762583+ 8e Linux LVM LVM doesn't appear to be an option for mount or fstab. ... and here's a Smart data Screenshot from Disk Utility.

  • Used mountmanager now Ubuntu hangs on boot

    - by fpghost
I was using MountManager in Ubuntu 12.04 to set user permissions in mounting hard drives. I set each partititon to be mountable by everyone instead of admin only. Then I clicked Apply in the file menu and it gave me the message successfully updated. Upon restarting Ubuntu, just hangs on the splash screen and does not boot any further. Windows still boots fine. How can I fix these? please help thanks From LiveUSB: my fstab looks like: overlayfs / overlayfs rw 0 0 tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nosuid, nodev 0 0 /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sda7 swap swap defaults 0 0 Is this corrupted? • Reading Serial Data From C (OSX /dev/tty)

    - by Jud Stephenson
I am trying to read data from a bluetooth barcode scanner (KDC300) using C. Here is the code I have so far, and the program successfully establishes a bluetooth connection to the scanner, but when a barcode is scanned, no input is displayed on the screen (Eventually more will be done with the data, but we have to get it working first, right). Here is the program: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <errno.h> #include <termios.h> #include <sys/ioctl.h> int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { // define vars int STOP = 0; //char buf[255]; if(argv[1]) { int fd = open("/dev/tty.KDC1", O_RDONLY); if(fd == -1) { printf("%s", strcat("Unable to open /dev/tty.", argv[1])); } int res; while(STOP == 0) { while((res = read(fd,buf,255)) == 0); { if(res > 0) { buf[res]=0; printf("%s:%d\n", buf, res); if(buf[sizeof(buf)]=='\n') break; } } } } return 0; } If anyone has any ideas, I am at a loss on this so far. If it is any help, I can run screen /dev/tty.KDC1 and any barcodes scanned on the scanner appear in the terminal, I just can't do anything with the data. Jud

  • Windows Series Phone 7 "Cloud"

    - by user275561
I have been reading up on "Cloud computing" on here and still not getting it. Basically I want to develop for the WP7 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff402531%28v=VS.92%29.aspx#AppPlat_Overview_Arch Now it mentions everything as being in the "Cloud". Is any server just a cloud? If i have a WCF service or wsdl on my server. Can I consider myself that "Cloud"? Or is there something that a server emits that checks whether or not it is a cloud?

  • Why is my /dev/random so slow when using dd?

    - by Mikey
I am trying to semi-securely erase a bunch of hard drives. The following is working at 20-50Mb/s dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda But dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sda seems not to work. Also when I type dd if=/dev/random of=stdout It only gives me a few bytes regardless of what I pass it for bs= and count= Am I using /dev/random wrong? What other info should I look for to move this troubleshooting forward? Is there some other way to do this with a script or something like makeMyLifeEasy | dd if=stdin of=/dev/sda Or something like that...

  • Dual booting on separate hard drives

    - by tornadorider
I have windows XP professional installed on 1 hard drive and Ubuntu 10.10 on my second hard drive. On start up the computer completely skips the grub menu and boots straight into 10.10. I have tried running os-prober with the windows hard drive mounted and then updating grub but it didnt work. Any ideas? I have changed the boot order so that the HDD with xp on it is first however the computer still booted into linux. I tried running grub-install /dev/sda and got this /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 32 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. Please ask its authors not to store data in the boot track.. /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 33 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. Please ask its authors not to store data in the boot track.. Installation finished. No error reported I checked using disk utility and the code for my xp hard drive is sdb so i ran the camand grub-install /dev/sdb shich gave me this Installation finished. No error reported. So i rebooted but it still didnt work. Any other ideas? • How to build glibc 2.11.2 on RHEL5?

Using gcc-4.4.4 or 4.5.0, I'm unable to make glibc-2.11.2 on RHEL 5.5: .././scripts/mkinstalldirs /dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/sunrpc/rpcsvc CPP='gcc -B/home/klaw/share/rhel5/ -E -x c-header' /dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/elf/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 --library-path /dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/math:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/elf:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/dlfcn:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/nss:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/nis:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/rt:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/resolv:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/crypt:/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/nptl /dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/sunrpc/rpcgen -Y ../scripts -c rpcsvc/bootparam_prot.x -o /dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/sunrpc/xbootparam_prot.T Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dynamic-link.h: 209: elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `info[15] == ((void *)0)' failed! make[2]: *** [/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2-build/sunrpc/xnlm_prot.stmp] Error 127 make[2]: Leaving directory `/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2/sunrpc' make[1]: *** [sunrpc/others] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/dev/shm/glibc-2.11.2' make: *** [all] Error 2 The error comes from the ld.so made by glibc: $ elf/ld.so Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dynamic-link.h: 209: elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `info[15] == ((void *)0)' failed! $ I got similar error with glibc-2.11.1 (only the line number of dynamic-link.h is different). My setup is the following: Linux box with 3 NICs eth0 - public ip eth1 - subnet A - 50 users (static ips) eth2 - subnet B - 100 users (via dhcp) I am using squid as a transparent proxy on port 3128. dhcp server using ports 67 and 68. Hello everyone, I am using Java GAE. So far, i'm just scafolding my data objects and i'm seeing an interesting issue. The records that i am playing around with are getting updated properly as long as my dev server is running up. The second that the my dev server gets restarted, i lose all of my changes. That would be not alarming if i lost all of my records, but, there was a point of time where my data persisted through the server restart. I'm worried that i would lose production data if i launched without fixing this potential bugs? ANy idea on wher ei should look?

  • Interacting with system commands using a web dev language

    - by Jamie
Hi all, First of all, sorry for the vague title. Let me explain. At work we're currently using SunGrid I've been assigned a project to create a web interface wrapper for interacting with the engine. i.e. displaying users jobs, submitting jobs via a nice GUI etc. (most of the sgrid commands output xml which is nice) My question for you chaps is the following: What web dev language would you use to interact with the system? i.e. use the language to do a system call and evaluate the response. I'm not after an argument on which language is best, I just would like to know which language is specifically good for interacting with the system and is also good for web dev.

  • iPhone expired dev certs - public/private key pair issue

    - by KevinDTimm
My dev 'license' expired last week, and with it my dev certs. I re-upped my license, but my keys are still expired. I tried to create a new signing certificate via keychain, etc. but it seems my private key is not enough, it needs my public key to do so. I understand that the public key is stored in the provisioning certificate. The question is, can I retrieve the public key from there? (And if so, how?)

  • MS Dev Studio 2005 Ignores Preprocessor directives during compile

    - by miked
We just got a new developer and I'm trying to set him up with Dev Studio 2005 (The version we all use at this office), and we're running into a weird problem that I've never seen before. I have some code that works perfectly on my system, and he can't seem to get it compiled. We've tracked the issue down to his copy of dev studio ignoring the preprocessor directives. For example, in the project properties under C/C++|Preprocessor|Preprocessor Directives, I add DEFINE_ME. Which should translate to a /D"DEFINE_ME" for the compiler. And it does in my development environment, but it doesn't on his. I verified that when he checks out the code from the source repository, that he has the same version of the code I do. And if I look in his Project Properties, all of the directives are there. For some reason they're just not getting passed down to the compiler. Any Ideas?

  • Sending events to the dev version of a ruleset via HTTP

    - by Steve Nay
I've been writing an endpoint that sends events to a KRL ruleset via HTTP GET (based on the documentation here), in this format: http://cs.kobj.net/blue/event/{domain}/{eventname}/{appid} That works great when the version of the app I want to test is the same one that's deployed. I don't always want to deploy before testing it, though. Using the stated format for calling the dev version doesn't work. It still calls the deployed version of my ruleset: http://cs.kobj.net/blue/event/{domain}/{eventname}/{appid}:kynetx_app_version=dev What am I doing wrong?

  • Windows Workflow runs very slowlyh on my DEV machine

    - by Joon
I am developing an app using WF hosted in IIS as WCF services as a business layer. This runs quickly on any machine running Windows Server 2008 R2, but very slowly on our dev machines, running Windows XP SP3. Yesterday, the workflows were as fast on my dev machine as they are on the server for the whole day. Today, they are back to running slowly again (I rebooted overnight) Has anyone else experienced this problem with workflows running slowly on IIS in XP? What did you do to fix it?

  • Deploying a .Net App Source Control (SVN) over 32-bit AND 64-bit dev stations

    - by Mika Jacobi
Here is the situation : Our Dev Team has heterogeneous OS systems, scattered between 32-bit and 64-bit. This is not ideal, we are actually planning to homogenize our infrastructure, but in the meantime we have to deal with it. The issue is that when a 32-bit developer checks out a 64-bit solution on SVN, he has to manually change the target platforms all over again to get it compiled (not to mention other side problems) My question is : What clean (though temporary) solution could be addressed in such situation, permitting each developer to keep his default project/platform settings while checking out and in from SVN. I guess that -at least for the first time a project/solution is checked out, a dev still has to tweak the setting manually to compile it properly. After that, according to relevant SVN filters, it is possible to ignore some settings files (which ones, by the way?) I am open to all clever and detailed suggestions. Thanks.
