  • The Date type and the Android database

    I understand that SQLite stores dates as long integers. When I read rows into a cursor using the standard method (i.e. using the query() method that reads data into a cursor), the result is a date string that includes the time. If I want a different format, I have to parse the string back into a date - possible, but a bit backwards. By using a ViewBinder (as suggested in this question), I can pretty much do anything I want, but the date is already a string at the time the method executes. The accepted answer to the above question also suggests that storing dates as longs would help avoid this problem. I don't want to do that, just in case I want to interpret my data with something else than this application. Maybe I want to expose it via a provider. Is there a way to handle this in the database adapter instead, i.e. controlling the date format that the cursor contains, so that I don't have to change the schema, and don't have to parse the default output back into a Date type?

  • Programatically find TFS changes since last good build

    I have several branches in TFS (dev, test, stage) and when I merge changes into the test branch I want the automated build and deploy script to find all the updated SQL files and deploy them to the test database. I thought I could do this by finding all the changesets associated with the build since the last good build, finding all the sql files in the changesets and deploying them. However I don't seem to be having the changeset associated with the build for some reason so my question is twofold: 1) How do I ensure that a changeset is associated with a particular build? 2) How can I get a list of files that have changed in the branch since the last good build? I have the last successfully built build but I'm unsure how to get the files without checking the changesets (which as mentioned above are not associated with the build!)

    Hi, In the ContentObserver class, the method onChange is passed a boolean selfChange that's defined as: "true if the update was caused by a call to commit on the cursor that is being observed." What's the proper way to update the cursor so that selfChange is set to true? My current code doesn't reference the cursor at all for an update and selfChange is always false as a result.   • Android: Ringer mode changed to silent doesn't stop the phone vibrating

    I'm trying to change the ringer mode of the phone to RINGER_MODE_SILENT when a call is incoming by using the following lines of code. AudioManager am = (AudioManager) this.getSystemService(Context.AUDIO_SERVICE); am.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_SILENT); While the phone stops ringing it continue to vibrate although the documentation of RINGER_MODE_SILENT says it should also stop vibrating. I'm using the SDK 1.6 UPDATE: As I didn't find a solution yet, I tried to deactivate the vibration settings manually. am.setVibrateSetting(AudioManager.VIBRATE_TYPE_RINGER, AudioManager.VIBRATE_SETTING_ONLY_SILENT ); But this also doesn't prevent the phone form vibrating when a call is incoming. Any ideas?

  • POJO's versus Cursors in Android

    I usually tend to define the model layer of my apps using POJO's, such as Article, Comment, etc. I was about to implement an AlphabetIndexer in the adapter of one of my ListViews. Right now this adapter accepts a Collection of Articles, which I normally get from my wrapper around an SQLiteDatabase. The signature of the AlphabetIndexer constructer is as follows: public AlphabetIndexer (Cursor cursor, int sortedColumnIndex, CharSequence alphabet) Since this doesn't accept a Collection or something similar, just a Cursor, it got me wondering: maybe I shouldn't be creating objects for my model, and just use the Cursors returned from the database? So the question is, I guess: what should I do, represent data with Collections of POJO's, or just work with Cursors throughout my app? Any input?

    I'm using spring RestTemplate and it works perfect on emulator but if I run my app on real device I get HttpMessageNotWritableException ............ nested exception is java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe Here is some lines of my code(keep in mind my app works perfect on emulator) ............ LoggerUtil.logToFile(TAG, "url is [" + url + "]"); LoggerUtil.logToFile(TAG, "NetworkInfo - " + connectivityManager.getActiveNetworkInfo()); ResponseEntity<T> responseEntity = restTemplate.exchange(url, HttpMethod.POST, requestEntity, clazz); ............. I know my device's network works perfect because all other applications on my device are working and also using device browser I'm able to connect to my server so my server is available. My server is up and running and my device is able to connect to my server so why I get java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe ?!!!!!!! Before I call restTemplate.exchange() I log NetworkInfo and it looks ok -type: WIFI -status: CONNECTED/CONNECTED -isAvailable: true Thanks in advance.     I have an activity which, when started, needs to check if the user is authenticated. If not, I need to display an interface to authenticate. I do this with another activity, which has a dialog theme, and I start it in onResume() with flags NO_HISTORY and EXCLUDE_FROM_RECENTS. Everything works fine when starting the application for the first time. But I have a feature that resets login after some time, if the user is not in an activity. When I test this, I start the applicatio, enter the password, then move back to home. Then when I enter the application again, the background darkens as if the dialog would show, but it doesn't. At this point, if I press the back button, the darkening from the background activity disappears for a second, then the dialog finally appears.     I have an ImageView that is twice the height of a normale screen ( 960 dip). I would like to scroll it nicely up and down on the screen. The bottom of the screen should contain a bottom. I have tried various combinations of ScrollView and Imageviews without any success. I have also thinkered with the :isScrollContainer attribute without results. Anyone knows how to do this?     I am using a keylistener to get key taps. The problem is that once you tap the delete key, the next key tap is not registering. The key tap after that keeps working. If I tap 2 deletes in a row, they work, just no other keys. They just disappear. I put in a log test before the "if (keycode" section and it shows nothing after the first delete is pressed, unless it is another delete.     Hi! I'm just wondering if I do this correctly; I'm programming a notification app which can display a notification when the phone is sleeping Disable keyguard lock Aquire a wake lock show notification Set alarm for timeout and reenabling keyguard and release wakelock is the user dont touches the screen. 4.1 User touches the screen, and I disable the timer. Do nothing more. Done and done 4.2 User dont touch the screen, so reenable keyguard and release wakelock. Phone sleeps again Basically I'm wondering about point 4.1 the most. cancel the pendingintent for the alarm, and do nothing more? or should the keyguard and wakelock that are set be dealt with in some way?

  • Android: writing a file to sdcard

    I'm trying to write a file from an Http post reply to a file on the sdcard. Everything works fine until the byte array of data is retrieved. I've tried setting WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission in the manifest and tried many different combinations of tutorials I found on the net. All I could find was using the openFileOutput("",MODE_WORLD_READABLE) method, of the activity but how my app writes file is by using a thread. Specifically, a thread is invoked from another thread when a file has to be written, so giving an activity object didn't work even though I tried it. The app has come a long way and I cannot change how the app is currently written. Please, someone help me? CODE: File file = new File(bgdmanip.savLocation); FileOutputStream filecon = null; filecon = new FileOutputStream(file); // bgdmanip.savLocation holds the whole files path byte[] myByte; myByte = Base64Coder.decode(seReply); Log.d("myBytes", String.valueOf(myByte)); bos.write(myByte); filecon.write(myByte); myvals = x * 11024; seReply is a string reply from HttpPost response. the second set of code is looped with reference to x. the file is created but remains 0 bytes

  • Call webservice from Android using KSoap simply returning "error" string

    I'm trying to use ksoap to call a simple webservice. I followed this video to try to get started. When I call "getResponse()" on the envelope I just get the string "Error". There's no exceptions thrown or any other detail. I've successfully connected to a simple webservice I just setup on my local machine. Could this potentially be related to being behind a proxy server here at work?
