• What is the mount point for Windows share on Ubuntu 9.10?

  I am new to Ubuntu so please be gentle! I am taking the plunge from Windows!! I connected to a Windows share (using Connect to Server... menu) and I can access it on Gnome just fine. However, I don't know how I can access it in console, or in any other program that requires the path, when it's already connected on Gnome. What's the mount point for that? I tried the mount command but it does not show up.

• Make emacs aware of files externally moved/renamed on Mac os x

  I've been using mac os x for several years, and I realize that I've now gotten used to all applications transparently "following" files as I rename or move them (either via mv on the console or within the Finder's GUI), and emacs is pretty much the only program that does not. This is a shame though, because most of my time in front a screen is actually spent in front of emacs :-) Would anyone have any ideas or pointers about what measures I could take to get that behaviour in emacs ? (yes I know this is "impossible" to acheive in general, but when I just rename a simple file, or move it to a directory nearby, it's a shame I have to close/reopen it for emacs to notice. oh and no, I'm not going to use 'dired' as a file manager :-)

• Chromium never stops loading iGoogle

  I almost always keep a tab open on google.com/ig. Recently I've noticed that the "loading" animation for that tab never stops spinning, even though the page appears to be fully loaded. Even though there's no direct problem with this, I find the animation really distracting and to be honest it's driving me crazy. I've done a few things to try to figure this out. I've removed every single one of my gadgets (so my igoogle is blank), but that made no difference. I've disabled adblock and scriptno. nothing. I've watched the network console in developer tools to look for resources that haven't finished loading, but it looks like everything is done. I'm all out of ideas. For my sanity's sake, please help.

• Exchange stops working after changing System Time

  I am currently in a situation where the system time of my windows machine differs 6 hours from the actual local time. I tried chaning the system time of my windows machine 6 hours back to match the actual local time. The issue is, when the system time is changed, Exchange stops working as it wont start anymore. When i change the time back Exchange works again. Here is the error that it shows when im trying to open the management console after changing the system time. The Follwing error occured while attempting to connect to the specified server "servername". The attempt to connect to http://servername/PowerShell using "Kerberos" authentication failed: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message: Access is denied. For more information, see the about_remote_troubleshooting Help topic. Any Solutions to this problem?

• Disable RDC Welcome Screen in Windows 2008 R2

  Is there a way to disable or bypass the "Welcome" screen I see when I'm using RDC to log in to a machine using saved credentials? I have startup task which launches an RDP session automatically to localhost when the machine boots. This works, except that the remote desktop window stops and waits for an "OK" on the Welcome screen: MACHINENAME-A.B.C.D(Server ID:Console 0) Welcome [OK] This screen is preventing me from automating this login. Is there any way to get around it? EDIT: Here's the command line I'm currently using to launch it: start /min C:\windows\system32\mstsc.exe c:\rdp\ServiceRunner.rdp

• Cannot dump svn repository

  I've a problem with my svn repo. I cannot use it, I even cannot dump it. svnadmin verify repo returns Can't set position pointer in file 'svn/db/revs/0/0' When I try to dump repo (no matter what revision range), console output shows: * Dumped revision 0. svnadmin: Final line in revision file missing space I've googled that this may be connected with wrong version apr apache2 library, but I have other repositories which work good, so I thing this isn't the case. Is there any way to save at least some files from my repo? Can svn repo get corrupted so easily (probably after power-cut, however I'm not sure).

• WSO2 Installation Stops

  I am only trying to get WSO2 Data Services to start up on an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server. I have installed Java, set the JAVA_HOME environment variable, and download the binary distribution from WSO2. When I run /opt/wso2dataservices-2.6.2/bin/wso2server.sh, everything seems to start up fine and I can start to navigate to the page. The problem is a few seconds later, the console says Killed and everything stops. Does anybody have any ideas for how I can figure out what's going on? Edit: It seems to stop when I try to access the page, but not on its own.

• Restarting Nagios Using PHP

  I am making a tool that is interacting with NAGIOS where some config files should be added so a restart will be needed. What I need to know is how to restart NAGIOS using PHP code since this tool is written in PHP .. when I try to do this using: shell_exec("service nagios restart"); changes do not take place but when I do this manually by the console all changes I did using the PHP script are applied ... after 2 minutes research I found that I am asking linux to execut this command while I am logged in as apache user so I changed the command to: shell_exec('echo "mypass" | sudo -S service nagios restart'); still having the same problem ... new config files are not read until I restart manually any suggestions will be appreciated :)

• Mac terminal: Resource temporarily unavailable

  I'm getting an error message in the Mac Terminal when I try to run several different processes. I did some googling and looking on this site, and found out that it might be related to having too many processes running at one time. However, I'm getting these error messages when I only have a few windows open (much fewer than I was accustomed to having). Looking in activity Monitor, my %User number is at around 25%, and the %System number is around 15%. In the past, I have had both much much higher (until the people at the Apple store told me to keep an eye on it). • Why can't I use %USERPROFILE% in %PATH%?

  On my Windows 7 machine, using the System Properties Environment Variables tool, I try to add %USERPROFILE%\Bin to the system variable PATH. For some reason, that doesn't work, even though %SystemRoot%\system32 works fine. When I try to run commands from the console, files in my Bin folder are not found, even though files in the System32 folder are found. The only difference between UserProfile and SystemRoot that I can see is that the former is a user variable while the latter is a system variable. I i write echo %USERPROFILE%\Bin it yields c:\Users\zano, and if I add c:\Users\zano\Bin explicitly, everything work fine. What's the problem here?

  I have a Linux (Ubuntu) virtual machine running on Azure. It seems like the only way to connect to it is via SSH. This is OK for normal operation, but what to do when something goes wrong (fsck waiting for user-input, new kernel doesn't boot, mis-configured network, etc.)? There is a grayed out "Connect" button in the management interface, and the help for it says: To access a virtual machine running Windows Server, click Connect and follow the instructions. Enter the password that was set when the virtual machine was created. The Connect button is not available for a virtual machine running Linux, but you can use your favorite SSH program to access it. I've read the documentation on the command line tools, but there is also no way to connect to it. Is there any way for me to get such a console?

• How do I force an exchange database to become "active"?

  We had a catastrophic failure where all that remains is a single edb file. No backups. No log files. The database that remains is on the "passive" copy. The "active" copy is missing, but the server is active. The Exchange console reports that the edb file needs to be reseeded, however there is no source to reseed from. How do I make the "invalid" database file (missing logs) valid? How do I make exchange recognize this as a valid database to use as a primary?

  Well this might sound awkward but I facing terrible issue with my Amazon EC2 instance one of the finding I see is that apache is not responding on port 80 which is weird because I can't even find the incoming packet to port 80 in tcpdump output As per the security rules all security rules are in place correctly at least in amazon console I restarted the apache to listen to port 8080 and added port 8080 and add 8080 to security rule and everything work but I cant just able to understand as to why the port 80 not responding Needless to say since port 8080 is responding all my CNAME and A-record is working too UPDATE No firewall issue either I just cross check the iptables and list is empty Can some share a light on this

  I just installed phpmyadmin and i am trying to login in /phpmyadminpath/setup. I am greeted by an invite similar to an apache protected folder (log/password displayed in a browser pop-up, not an html popup) asking for login pass. I cannot login using system password(root) or mysql passsword(also root) I already have rails app using this mysql, and i checked the mysql password in the config files. I cannot run any mysql command in my console because of the following error : ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) What is wrong with phpmyadmin and mysql?

  i know it is common problem, but not its so strange. problem: common missing windows/system32/config/system what i do next: put hdd to another pc and boot from it, it is succeeded but without warning window after startup that says like "windows has recovered from serious problem". and than i put back hdd to previous pc. tadaaa!!!! missing windows/system32/config/system is happening again! now i am trying repair this problem with recovery console from CD. i hope it will successful. someone can explain this? what should i do?

• Restricting server.log file size (minecraft) in CentOS

  I'm currently running a bukkit (minecraft) server which generates a server.log file with all the console messages / errors. Every now and then I have a plugin (which i need) that crashes and can cause the server.log file size to increase dramatically. I've had it hit 32GB before which used all my disk space. Is there a way to make it a rolling log (deletes old errors) or be able to limit the file size so it can't go above say 10MB. But the solution needs to not affect how the server runs so it doesn't throw an error when it can't write anymore. Anyway of doing this with CentOS?

  I'm trying to deploy a rails app in Debian, using Apache/Passenger. I was trying to fox a problem with some GEMs and in the process I put executed this in console: export PATH=/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/:${vendor/cache} Now my path environmental variable is gone, or at least its content. My server is running under Debian 6. Is there a way to recover my path info? Or at least can someone point me where to find the file where that variable i s stored? Some help please. • Network randomly drops

  I have a VPS, ubuntu server 12.04 and for unknown reasons the network connection drops and I have to access my vps via the console and ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0. This brings the connection back up from about a few seconds to a few hours. I have run tail -F /var/log/syslog to monitor the log to see what happens at the point of drop and there is nothing unusual. The vps is running under virt-manager and the hardware is set to virtio. I have had linux friends look at my vps and they are unsure of what is the cause.

  Really long time ago I set up my dd-wrt router up as a repeater. It works well; in the summer I place it near the garden and I have wifi in the garden. I would like to revisit te settings and see if it would be a good idea to install openvpn. The problem is: I don't remember the ip of the router. I probably followed the setup instructions on the dd wrt wiki. it doesn't show up on the management-console of my main router (a docsis3 modem); it doesn't show up if I do an IP scan of the whole class B; it doesn't show as the gateway when i connect to it (wired or wireless). Any ideas on how I could find the web-interface?

  I have a dev server machine running Ubuntu 12.04. For a long while it's been throwing intermittent errors where it would suddenly tell me "File system is read only" or drop into a GRUB error console on boot. I've done disk checks, bad blocks, etc. and no real problems with the main SATA drive were detected. Finally the drive would not be detected at all-- but neither would other drives I plugged in (via SATA). I plugged the supposedly "bad" drive into another server and it worked fine, no issues, for days-- so I assumed the motherboard had a bad SATA controller, and replaced the motherboard with an identical model. I replaced the drive into the original machine with the new motherboard, rebooted-- and the same issues-- I/O errors, failure to read the drive at all, dropping into GRUB, etc. I'm wondering if there could be some other issue with this machine, that's not related to the drive-- possibly power supply? However, when ever I move a window, the redraw of that window takes 3-8 seconds. Even moving the window takes the same amount of time Is this being done in software rather than the nVidea hardware? The windows themselves do not respond. I have seen a few old threads but no relevant fixes - If anyone could suggest a fix I would very much appreciate it. I have tried: sudo nvidea-xconfig sudo nvidia-settings Then configure TwinView go to save the config... and the error unable to parse xorg.conf file and the error in the console VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.   How do I get Ubuntu upstart to not hang on interactive start & stop? I have created many upstart scripts that work fine during init, but often hang when I enter them at the console. If I CTRL+C out, all that happens is that the job changes state. The script is never run. I’m running Ubuntu Lucid on a Xen virtual server with a Linux 2.6.39 kernel.
