  • Web Page Design Get Distorted in Desktop PC Monitor

    I am building my web application on my laptop but when I navigate the page on my desktop pc the layout of the div are distorted. I think the solution is giving percentage instead of absolute numbers like 240px to height and width of divs. What do you think ? Do you have another recommendations ? Thanks in advance.     I want the style to apply on the "a" elements, and not the img. Here's an example: a:hover {background: #555;} I tried to do something like this: a:hover img {background: none;} though I knew it's not going to do anything. The solution I found in this question didn't work for me, because the "display: none" is moving the image when hovering.

  • IE6 the last three characters in a div are being repeated else where in the page? really weird

    Hey, Basically i have an issues (in IE6) where the last three characters of a line of text in a div are being repeated further down the page even though they are only in the HTML once. http://www.disturbmedia.com/jason/test/ please see the numbers in black, its always the last three characters that get repeated, so strange. I have never seen this before, its only in IE6? Anyone have any info?! Am super confused as to how this is happening. Thanks Jason

  • remove a:hover using javascript (not using jquery... don't ask)

    I thought this would be pretty simple.... Basically, it's a 5-star rating system. When a user clicks, for example, three stars... I want to freeze those three stars right where they're at. I've been trying to simply remove the hover for the a href so it stays what it was at... maybe that's not the right method. I've exhausted absolutely everything I can think of... By the way this is straight javascript, not jquery or anything. It's crazy, I know but all of the JS was written straight....   • Visual Studio 2010 HTML Designer Renders Unlike IE8?

    My question is: since Visual Studio 2010 was only just released, why does it not render pages in the same way as the latest Microsoft web browser, IE8? Is there a bunch of render options I should be setting? I thought Expression Web was supposed to help with its fancy Super Preview but that app doesn't even open VS solutions.   • Any way to remove IEs black border around submit button in active forms?

    I am implementing a design that uses custom styled submit-buttons. They are quite simply light grey buttons with a slightly darker outer border: input.button { background: #eee; border: 1px solid #ccc; } This looks just right in Firefox, Safari and Opera. The problem is with Internet Explorer, both 6 and 7. Since the form is the first one on the page, it's counted as the main form - and thus active from the get go. The first submit button in the active form receives a solid black border in IE, to mark it as the main action. If I turn off borders, then the black extra border in IE goes away too. I am looking for a way to keep my normal borders, but remove the outline.

Basically I would like to go through all my div tags and get some of its style attributes.   • IE7 left:%; bug

    I'm working on a project, I use the latest IETester, and I bumped into a IE7 specific alignment bug. view this in IE7 and then in any other browser, for example Firefox, IE8 and even IE6. Notice how the little "|" between the lower links is not visible in IE7, yet it looks fine in the other browsers. Removing the left:-100%; from on line 61 fixes the bug as seen here, but i need this "left" for positioning. Any help on what is causing this bug, or potential ideas on how to fix it much needed.

  • Why don't web fonts in Firefox work on a different domain?

    I was experimenting with the fancy new OpenType font capability in Firefox 3.5 and I ran into a problem. I was trying to embed a font on a different domain than the page it would be used on, and it didn't work. I thought it may have been a bug, but from what I read on the MDC reference page, I noticed this note: In Gecko, web fonts are subject to the same domain restriction (font files must be on the same domain as the page using them), unless HTTP access controls are used to relax this restriction. It looks like they designed the browser that way on purpose. Out of curiosity, why would they do that? Is there any security risk with embedding a font? Or is it for legal trademark or copyright issues? Or something else?

  • Style Switcher & Text Resizer Combined?

    Hi there, I've came across various style switchers that allow you to change the stylesheet (i.e. Light, Dark, High Contrast), and carious text-resizers that allow you to resize the test (usually with Three A's, small, medium and large). However, I can't seem to find a single switcher/resizer that works well together by allowing permutations of the two. i.e. so the user can choose a dark background with small text, or a dark background with large text, etc. I can only seem to get this working where the user can choose one or the other styles (large text or High Contrast, not a combination of the two). Any ideas on anything that may be suitable for this at all? Thanks, Stephen

    I've been tinkering around with the excellent Superfish drop-down menu to fit my needs. Here's the result. Still, there are two oddities I need to fix. Since I changed the font family and font size used for the items in the menu bar, the drop-down menus are aligned incorrectly a few pixels lower than where they should be. Secondly, when I hover over a menu item that has a submenu, an arrow to the right is displayed but it's not as visible as it should be due to the light background color. Can I change this quickly without making a new arrow image?

How to solve this problem?
