• What do I do with a Concrete Syntax Tree?

  I'm using pyPEG to create a parse tree for a simple grammar. The tree is represented using lists and tuples. Here's an example: [('command', [('directives', [('directive', [('name', 'retrieve')]), ('directive', [('name', 'commit')])]), ('filename', [('name', 'f30502')])])] My question is what do I do with it at this point? I know a lot depends on what I am trying to do, but I haven't been able to find much about consuming/using parse trees, only creating them. Does anyone have any pointers to references I might use? • Do Portable Class Libraries work with .net 3.5?

  I am running Windows 8 and have both Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate w/sp1 and Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate and I am trying to create a Portable Class Library that supports .net 3.5 and greater. When I first try to create a PCL I get a screen like this: I noticed that .net 3.5 is not in the list so I clicked on "Install additional frameworks" and found a Targeting Pack for version 3.5. But when I download and run "dotnetfx35setup.exe" nothing happens. And when I go back into VS and try to create a new Portable Class Library, it lists the same target frameworks as before. I have also turned on the Windows Features for .NET Framework 3.5 and am now out of ideas. Here is a screen shot in case I missed something else. Thanks,

• Can JQuery/JavaScript be used to write a substantial client side application?

  I have an unusual situation - I have an embedded video streaming device with a complicated UI, and I need to use an embedded web server to reproduce that UI through a web browser. I'm thinking of using JavaScript/JQuery on a C++ backend (I am NOT coding all this myself, I need to hire people for the grunt work). The embedded web server is much less powerful than a PC, so I want to write an application that runs the entire UI in the browser, and only communicates with the server to pass new program settings back and forth, get status updates from the device, and control video playback. In other words, the client gets one big page or a small number of big pages (effectively downloading the application), the application maintains significant local memory storage, and once the pages are first loaded the server never sends anything layout-related. The application has two rows of tabs to navigate ~40 menu pages, drag-and-select controls to pick cells in a grid, sorted lists, lots of standard data entry options, and it should be able to control up to 16 embedded video players at once (preferably VLC). Is this possible in JavaScript/JQuery with a C++ backend?

• jQuery/Tablesorter: maintain secondary alphabetical sort

  I have a table of names and ages that I want the user to be able to sort. When the page initally loads, sortList lists the rows in order from oldest to youngest, and then secondarily from A to Z. I want the same thing (a SECONDARY alphabetical sort) when the user actually clicks on the age <th>, but sortForce is making the alphabetical sort primary. Is there an alternative? $('#super_results table').tablesorter({ sortForce: [[0,0]], sortList: [[1,1],[0,0]] }); Or am I misunderstanding sortForce? Documentation here.

• Does this interface already exist in the standard .NET libraries?

  I found myself needing a simple generic interface, and I wrote it, but it turned out to be pretty much the world's simplest interface. I was wondering if it already exists by some other name. I just want to make sure I'm not reinventing something that is already included with the .NET framework. interface IReceiver<T> { void Receive(T obj); } I can't really find a good list of "standard" interfaces that came with .NET. Does the structure of this interface look familiar to anyone? Have I reinvented something that is already standard? EDIT: I have a data object and a number of objects interested in receiving the data. Objects interested in receiving the data implement the interface, so that 'routing' lists and maps can send the data to them. The idea is full generalization in the routing, the routing will be data-driven.

• Visual Studio adds a circular reference when I drag and drop a user control from the Toolbox

  I have a user control C that is defined inside project P. C is present as a ".NET Framework Component" in my Visual Studio Toolbox. I open a form F (also defined inside project P) and drop C onto F. Once I do that drop, Visual Studio adds a reference under P pointing to P's own DLL. This is unnecessary and causes tons of build errors like The call is ambiguous between the following methods or properties... after which it lists the exact same method twice. If I go into References and delete the added reference, it builds correctly. Can I prevent VS from adding this unnecessary reference?

• Reading in MIPS external file so another file can use it?

  Hey all, I'm working on this final thing for my MIPS project and it's deceptively easy. I need to get a procedure (called feed) and let its main driver program use it by reading it in. I know that I'm supposed to use the call code 14 and .globl sym (I think) in order to feed it into the file and have it read it. I just need a basic tutorial or something, as I CANNOT find it on the Internet or in my book (just lists the call code, real helpful). Here's what I know: I need to use read, but I also need a file descriptor (don't know where to get it). I need to put the buffer in $a1 and the length in $a2. Well, that's about it. If there's any decent tutorial you could whip up or if there is one online that I don't see let me know please :). I just need a push in the right direction, I'm sure it can't be too difficult, just can't find any info on it!

  I've got table vendorparts that lists all my parts and their vendor(s). Parts with multiple vendors have multiple records in this table. I'm trying to write a query that only returns the partid, and vendor of parts that do not have a default vendor assigned. Partid Vendor Defaultflag 1 A 1 2 B 0 2 C 0 3 D 0 3 E 0 3 F 1 4 G 0 I would like to return the following: Partid Vendor 2 A 2 B 4 G I'm obviously having issues with partid 3 and getting the query to see it as having a default vendor assigned.

  I have the following function which takes a list and returns two sublists split at a given element n. However, I only need to split it in half, with odd length lists having a larger first sublist splitlist :: [a] -> Int -> ([a],[a]) splitlist [] = ([],[]) splitlist l@(x : xs) n | n > 0 = (x : ys, zs) | otherwise = (l, []) where (ys,zs) = splitlist xs (n - 1) I know I need to change the signature to [a] - ([a],[a]), but where in the code should I put something like length(xs) so that I don't break recursion? • Users lose access privileges every night

  Hi I'm having a problem with a WSS 3.0 instance where users keep losing their upload access rights every night. Users can always enter the Site involved and can browse lists, document libraries etc. just like normal, but they get an error when trying to upload documents, getting access denied error. This can be fixed by applying their access rights again in WSS, but it has to be done every morning, making that solution not feasible. This is a dedicated virtual server and no other applications running on it. Has anyone had a similar problem regarding WSS and Sharepoint access rights ?

  As a programmer of data-entry forms of all kinds, I often find myself making fields for things like Country: <choose from list>, State: <choose from list>, Race/Ethnicity: <choose from list>. Consider: Perhaps a list the 50 United States names is an easy thing to find (does one include DC?) , but the countries are not. Nearly every site you find has a differing list with all of the political goings on over the years, and they become outdated quickly. What's the best/common practice regarding population of these kinds of lists? Where does this data come from if it's not given in the specs?

  When using Java LinkedList how do you find out the element's next or previous relationships? I mean, in a regular linked list I would do something like this: Node node1 = new Node(); Node node2 = new Node(); LinkedList list = new LinkedList(); list.add(node1); list.add(node2); //then my node1 will know who it's next is: assertEquals(node2, node1.next()); But in Java's LinkedList, the data does not seem to be modified. So how do I actually find out who the "next" (or "previous" in the case of doubly-linked lists) element is?

  I have come up with a data structure that combines some of the advantages of linked lists with some of the advantages of fixed-size arrays. It seems very obvious to me, and so I'd expect someone to have thought of it and named it already. Does anyone know what this is called: Take a small fixed-size array. If the number of elements you want to put in your array is greater than the size of the array, add a new array and whatever pointers you like between the old and the new.   Hello, First of all sorry that I could not think of a more descriptive title. What I want to do is the following using only SQL: I have some lists of strings, list1, list2 and list3. I have a dataset that contains two interesting columns, A and B. Column A contains a TransactionID and column B contains an ItemID. Naturally, there can be multiple rows that share the same TransactionIDs. I need to catch those transactions that have at least one item ID that exists whithin each list (list1, list2 AND list3). I also need to count how many times does that happen for each transaction. I hope that makes enough sense, perhaps I will be able to explain it better with a clear head. Thanks in advance

I'm trying to count the length of repeated sequence of integers in the list: list_a = [111,0,3,1,111,0,3,1,111,0,3,1] list_b = [67,4,67,4,67,4,67,4,2,9,0] list_c = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,23,18,10] Which would return: list_a count = 4 (for [111,0,3,1]) list_b count = 2 (for [67,4]) list_c count = 10 (for [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0]) Any advice or tips would be welcome. I'm trying to work it out with re.compile right now but, its not quite right.

• Programmatically get valid switch/case values

  When MATLAB scans through cases in a switch/case block, does it remember the values that it skips, and is it possible to access that list? I have a few functions with long switch\case block and I would like to have them return a list of valid case values if they make it down to otherwise. For instance, I have a function that returns a set of optical constants for a material. It currently has about 20 different materials and it is growing as I consider new ones. I realize I can brute-force it and just re-type all of the valid cases into a cell array under otherwise and have the function throw an error and return the list of valid responses, but maintaining both lists without errors or laziness creeping in over time is challenging.

  I just started using python and I'm trying to create a program that will read a file that looks like this: AAA x 111 AAB x 111 AAA x 112 AAC x 123 ... the file is 50 lines long and I'm trying to make the letters into keys in a dictionary and the numbers lists that correspond with the keys. • Migrating an Access Database into SharePoint 2007.

  To my surprise and delight I read that an adminsitrator can import (nearly directly) an Access 2007 database into a sharepoint site. Automagically, the database in transformed into lists and views with some table lookup thrown in for good measure. With Access 2007 installed on the client machine, even the forms and what not can still be reused. To me... this sounds to good to be true. Has anyone actually dones this? With all this good news, where is the bad stuff and pitfalls to this. Depending on the size of the database, wouldn't this some how "gum up the works" in the SharPoint database?   I have a private LinkedList in a Java class & will frequently need to retrieve the last element in the list. The lists need to scale, so I'm trying to decide whether I need to keep a reference to the last element when I make changes (to achieve O(1)) or if the LinkedList class does that already with the getLast() call. What is the big-O cost of LinkedList.getLast() and is it documented? (i.e. can I rely on this answer or should I make no assumptions & cache it even if it's O(1)?)

• Passing enum or object through an intent (the best solution)

  I have an activity that when started needs access to two different ArrayLists. Both Lists are different Objects I have created myself. Basically I need a way to pass these objects to the activity from an Intent. I can use addExtras() but this requires a Parceable compatible class. I could make my classes to be passed serializable but as I understand this slows down the program. What are my options? Can I pass an Enum? As an an aside: is there a way to pass parameters to an Activity Constructor from an Intent?
