  • Can gems be used by ruby code compiled with macrubyc

    MacRuby 0.5 includes a ruby compiler built on LLVM called macrubyc. Does anyone know if it would be possible to dynamically load gems from compiled code? Or compile the gems and link them in? Is this planned? Or how compiled code will be able to make use of gems in general.

  • Can I call DbDataAdapter.Fill with a DbDataAdapter.SelectCommand that has a inner join to populate

    or do I have to use 2 separate DbDataAdapters with single-table Selects and then use DataRelations? like: SELECT Persons.LastName, Persons.FirstName, Orders.OrderNo FROM Persons INNER JOIN Orders ON Persons.P_Id=Orders.P_Id ORDER BY Persons.LastName I can't yet try this.     Hi All, I have a general question about MS Fax Routing service in Server 2008. Is it possible to have multiple extensions on the fax server. For example if the fax number is 90081000, can there be an extension for 1001, 1002 etc etc. Are we able to create these extension from within the MS Fax software and then route the different extensions to different email addresses?     I have installed Galera Cluster on 3 cluster + 1 management. I wanted to make it like this, Server1: Home (www.domain.com) Server2: For BBpress/Forum (Forum Tab Menu will forward to forum.domain.com) Server3: BuddyPress Activity (Social Tab Menu will forward to social.domain.com) The purpose I am doing this is to distribute my resource and load balancing each other at same time. However, I have difficulty to setup Apache Load-Balancing/mod_proxy/clustering or any suitable to have high availability WordPress. Any best suggestion/solution to make high availability WordPress? Or how to? And another question is I tried to copy whole WordPress files & folders to Server2 connecting to local database (same data inside since it is already on Galera Cluster) but the page blank. Any advice? OS: Centos 6.2 Thanks in advanced.

  • Ethernet 802.1x client -> WiFi AP on a Raspberry Pi?

    I have an Ethernet connection that requires 802.1x authentication (TTLS, MSCHAPv2, name+password). My goal is to connect that to something that would then act as an WiFi AP, so I can use the connection on more devices (iPhone, notebook, etc.) Would it be possible/good idea to use Raspberry Pi for this purpose? Or are there better-suited devices to do this? EDIT: found some alternatives but because of low rep can't post more than two links...   • What are best monitoring tool customizable for cluster / distributed system?

    I am working on a system having multiple servers. I am interested in monitoring some server specific data like CPU/memory usage, disk/filesystem usage, network traffic, system load etc. and some other my process specific data. What are available open source that can serve my purpose? If it provides to customize the parameter to be monitored and monitor your own data by creating plugin / agent. Any suggestions? I heard of Nagios, Zabbix and Pandora but not sure if they provide such interface.

The second part shows an example with Interface class. But nothing in this article discusses why this pattern would rather use abstract or interface. So what explanation (advantages of one over the other) would you give ? Not in general but for this precise pattern.

  • Amazon EC2 firewall rules & VPN connections

    I'm moving from Rackspace to Amazon EC2. One thing I like about our Rackspace setup is that it is extremely secure. The MySQL box can only be accessed via internal IPs, and we have a Cisco VPN firewall that allows us to dial in remotely and access port 3306 as though we were on the internal network. I'd like to figure out how to replicate this setup with EC2. How can I make the MySQL box so that port 3306 can only be accessed on the internal network? What about the VPN piece of things? I know Amazon has the VPC service, but it seems like that's for the purpose of connecting to an existing network. I don't have an existing network. I want to essentially create one inside Amazon and connect to that. What are my options? Any good tutorials on how to get started? Thanks in advance for your help

  • I would like to have a publicly accessable linux box hosted elsewhere. Who provides this service?

    I would like to have a general purpose linux server available and publicly accessible. I understand that there are no lack of web-hosting companies, but I might want more control over the machine than is typical. I would want the ability to install software, such as an SVN server, and I would like to be able to expose various port numbers, as I may have a variety of extremely low traffic sites that I would want to have available. Obviously, one option is to host such a machine in my home. Is that my only option? Or is what I describe out there, possible as a virtual machine on a larger server?

    On my Ubuntu machine, I have installed MySQL . I notice that there are /etc/my.cnf file which contain the content (only two lines): innodb_buffer_pool_size = 1G max_allowed_packet = 512M While there is also /etc/mysql/my.cnf with a long content like: # The MySQL database server configuration file. ... ... For me, it looks like both are configurations for MySQL server, but Why there are two my.cnf in different locations, can't the content to be merged to one my.cnf ? What is the purpose to have seperate my.cnf for MySQL server ?

    I understand this is a subjective question, so I apologize if it needs to be closed, but I feel like it comes up often enough for me to wonder if there is a general preference for one form over the other. Obviously, the best answer is "refactor the code so you don't need to test for falsehood" but sometimes there's no easy way to do so and the "else" branch is simply to continue processing. So when you must have an "if not false" construct, which is the preferred standard: The not operator if(!value) Or the test for false if(value == false)

  • Restrict VPN Clients to VPN Server

    I've setup a VPN server using Debians pptpd. This all works, but I want to restrict incoming connections so they can only access ports on the VPN server and not get access to other machines on the VPN servers local network. I'm guessing this is a firewall rule? but i'm new to linux so am struggling a bit... ---- Additional info ----- The VPN Server is also hosting an SVN server, which is its real purpose, and the only service I want it to expose to incoming connections. I guess I could expose the SVN server directly, but I'm not confident that I could secure this correctly, so a VPN seemed to give an additional layer of security.

  • Is Zabbix the right tool for me?

    I just want to monitor a small handful of servers (less than 10). From reading various places it sounds like the top leading contenders (for open source at least) are: nagios munin zabbix From what I have read a lot of people tend to use munin and nagios together -- munin for history and graphs, and nagios for alerting. On the other hand it sounds like Zabbix is a more complete solution and easier to configure than either of the other two. So I was thinking of going that route. My thoughts right now are: What are the general disadvantages of Zabbix? Does Zabbix have a small footprint on boxes it is monitoring? Do I really need to setup an entire other server for it? I currently have a server that is under very light load -- can I dual purpose it?

    I have a wireless printer which is always on, and an always on fanless linux server. Looking at the mprinter project on Kickstarter I started to wonder if there is an app somewhere in the internet already that will allow to prepare an automated daily printout based on some settings. things to be printed could include - weather forecast for my locations, todo`s scheduled for that day, a "quote of a day" or "word of the day", stats from google analytics for my site, and many more ... I would set a printout at 6:15 every work day so its on my printer when I am already up, having a coffee. anyone knows something that can be used for such purpose? While I know this can be done by combining the power of TeX, cron and a script language to manage the dynamic part of the PDF I believe this is a use case someone has already addressed.

  • How can I quickly set the iPhone deployment target in Xcode?

    I was reading this great article about Base SDK and Deployment targets and decided to try it out myself. The Deployment target seems to be buried in the Build settings, and not that easy to access compared to the Base SDK target (which is right there in the General tab of the project settings). To get to the Deployment settings now I have to Get Info, go to the Build tab, then search for "Deployment". Is there a quick way to check and access the Deployment target in Xcode that I'm missing?

I'm running Mac OSX and each time I try to run layoutopt, for example, the terminal returns, *-bash: cmd: command not found * Also, is it okay to have my SDK located in the Developer directory and my android project in some unrelated directory when using these tools?

  • How to sync my PDA (outlook, no wifi) with my Google Calendar?

    Hey Everybody, We have an old PDA that is not networked (Mio 168). It's main purpose is to serve as an agenda for which we use the outlook that came with it. Now, as my wife usually has the PDA and I want to be able to check and update our agenda too, I'm looking for a way to sync it with Google Calendar by hooking it to my PC via USB. I found a tool to sync outlook with Google Calendar. However, I would need outlook on my PC to be able to use that and I don't have outlook on my PC, nor do I want to buy it just for this sync. So, does anybody here now if and how I can sync my outlook on my PDA with Google Calendar without the go between of a PC version of outlook? Cheers.
