  • Error occurred while initializing fusion

    - by ApoY2k
I'm getting an error when I try to install .NET 2.0 on my Server 2003 SP1; Error 25007.Error occurred while initializing fusion. Setup could not load fusion with LoadLibraryShim() .NET-Framework 1.1 is already installed, is that the problem? I always thought you can just override any older installations of .NET

  • Entity Framework 4.0 POCO Classes and Data Services

If you've flipped on the POCO (Plain Ol' CLR Objects) code generation T4 templates for Entity Framework to enable testing or just 'cuz you like the code better, you might find that you lack the ability to expose that same model via Data Services as OData (Open Data). If you surf to the feed, you'll likely see something like this: The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • ASP.NET 4.0 and the Entity Framework 4 - Part 4 - A 3 Layered Approach to the Entity Framework

In this article, Vince suggests a pattern to use when developing a three layered application using the Entity Framework 4. After providing a short introduction he demonstrates the creation of the database, data access layer, business logic layer, and a web form. He does so with the help of detailed explanations, source code examples and related screenshots. He also examines how to select records to load a Drop Down List, including adding, editing and deleting records.Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • MEF (Microsoft Extensibility Framework) made simple (ish)

Microsoft Extensibility Framework or MEF is one of the great features in Silverlight, designed around making Silverlight applications more extensible generally and provides a much more complete story for the separation of concerns. MEF then begs the question 'Why we care?' and 'What can MEF really do?' and we will address that here.Let us talk about a real world example for a moment.Say you are a vertical selling corporation of some kind, meaning that you sell to companies that do similar things....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • What is the best unit test framework for .NET and why?

    - by rmx
It seems to me that everyone uses NUnit without even considering the other options. I think this is because: Everyone is familiar with it already so they won't have to learn a new API. It is already set up with their continuous integration server to work with NUnit. Am I wrong about this? I decided to use xUnit on one of my own projects recently and I love it! It makes so much more sense to me and conceptually it seems like a definite step forward from NUnit. I'd like to hear opinions on which framework is actually the best - not taking into consideration having to learn it or reconfigure your automated testing.

  • Programming Entity Framework, 2nd Edition (EF4) Table of Contents

We are closing in on finalizing the 2nd edition of Programming Entity Framework! Although the rough draft chapters are already available through Safari’s Rough Cuts program (here: http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596807252) I have been editing and reshaping the content since those chapters were published. You can get the final print edition (August 15th or perhaps a bit earlier) at O’Reilly or pre-order it here on Amazon.com (here) (and elsewhere of course!) I believe that the book will...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • SPAMMED Architecture Framework (SAF)

I am working on moving my blog to wordpress and as part of the effort I am cleaning up and rearranging some of my older posts. Since my readership has increased substantially compared with the time I started blogging I think some of them are worth republishing. I think that the series on SPAMMED, my software architecture meta-framework falls under the category. Overview There is very little guidance on how one can go about designing/developing an architecture for a software project. The SPAMMED...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. • Silverlight 4 + RIA Services - Ready for Business: Exposing Data from Entity Framework

To continue our series I wanted to look next at how to expose your data from the server side of your application.  The interesting data in your business applications come from a wide variety of data sources.  From a SQL Database, from Oracle DB, from Sql Azure, from Sharepoint, from a mainframe and you have likely already chosen a datamodel such as NHibernate, Linq2Sql, Entity Framework, Stored Proc, a service.   The goal of RIA Service in this release is to make it easy to...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Intro to Entity Framework with SQL Server

I'm a DBA and the developers in my organization are starting to use something called the Entity Framework (EF) in their applications. The developers are telling me that with EF you don't use stored procedures, you simply write .NET code to perform all of your data access. When I use the SQL Server Profiler to take a look at what they're doing, all I see is a bunch of dynamic SQL being executed. Naturally I'm a little skeptical of this, so can you help me to understand what is this Entity Framework?

  • Runnin Framework 4.0 with Powershell

    - by Mike Koerner
I had problems running scripts with Framework 4.0 assemblies I created.  The error I was getting was  Add-Type : Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\myDLL.dll' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. I had to add the supported framework to the powershell.exe.config file.<supportedRuntime version="v4.0.30319"/>I still had a problem running the assembly so I had to recompile and set "Generate serialization Assembly" to off.

  • How do I setup ASP.NET MVC 2 with MySQL?

    - by NovaJoe
Okay, so I'm cheating and not actually a question, but instead making a flat-out post. I know that goes against the grain of Stack Overflow, but this is too valuable not to share. I'm assuming that you have Visual Studio Professional 2008 and access to an instance of MySQL server. This MAY work with VS2008 Web edition, but not at all sure. If you haven't, install MySQL Connector for .NET (6.2.2.0 at the time of this write-up) Optional: install MySQL GUI Tools If you haven't, install MVC 2 RTM, or better yet, use Microsoft's Web Platform Installer. Create an empty MySQL database. If you don't want to access your application with the MySQL root user account (insecure), create a user account and assign the appropriate privileges (outside the scope of this write-up). Create a new MVC 2 application in Visual Studio In the MVC 2 app, reference MySql.Web.dll. It will either be in your GAC, or in the folder that the MySQL Connector installer put it. Modify the connection strings portion of your web.config: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalMySqlServer"/> <add name="MySqlMembershipConnection" connectionString="Data Source=[MySql server host name];user id=[user];password=[password];database=[database name];" providerName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> Modify the membership portion of your web.config: <membership defaultProvider="MySqlMembershipProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="MySqlMembershipProvider" type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLMembershipProvider, MySql.Web, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" connectionStringName="MySqlMembershipConnection" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" requiresUniqueEmail="true" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="6" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0" passwordAttemptWindow="10" applicationName="/" autogenerateschema="true"/> </providers> </membership> Modify the role manager portion of your web.config: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="MySqlRoleProvider"> <providers> <clear /> <add connectionStringName="MySqlMembershipConnection" applicationName="/" name="MySqlRoleProvider" type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLRoleProvider, MySql.Web, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" autogenerateschema="true"/> </providers> </roleManager> Modify the profile portion of your web.config: <profile> <providers> <clear/> <add type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLProfileProvider, MySql.Web, Version=6.2.2.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" name="MySqlProfileProvider" applicationName="/" connectionStringName="MySqlMembershipConnection" autogenerateschema="true"/> </providers> </profile> At this point, you ought to be able to run the app and have the default ASP.NET MVC 2 home page come up in your browser. However, it may be a better idea to first run the ASP.NET Web configuration Tool (in Visual Studio top menus: Project - ASP.NET Configuration). Once the tool launches, check out each of the tabs; no errors = all good. The configuration tool Nathan Bridgewater's blog was essential to getting this working. Kudos, Nathan. Look for the "Configuration Tool" heading half way down the page. The public key token on the MySql.web.dll that I've posted here ought not change any time soon. But in case you suspect a bad token string from copying and pasting or whatever, just use the Visual Studio command line to run: "sn -T [Path\to\your.dll]" in order to get the correct public key token. There you have it, ASP.NET MVC 2 running over MySQL. Cheers!

  • Chart controls for ASP.NET

    - by tolism7
I am looking people's opinion and experience on using chart controls within an ASP.NET application (web forms or MVC) primarily but also in any kind of project. I am currently doing my research and I have a pretty big list of controls to evaluate. My list includes (in no particular order): ASP.NET controls: DevExpress XtraCharts (http://demos.devexpress.com/XtraChartsDemos/) Dundas Chart for .NET (http://www.dundas.com/) Telerik RadChart for ASP.NET AJAX (http://www.telerik.com/) ComponentArt Charting & Visualization for ASP.NET (http://www.componentart.com/) Infragistics WebChart (http://www.infragistics.com/dotnet/netadvantage/aspnet.aspx#Overview) .net Charting (http://www.dotnetcharting.com/) Chart Control for .Net Framework (Microsoft's) (http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2008/11/24/new-asp-net-charting-control-lt-asp-chart-runat-quot-server-quot-gt.aspx) Flash controls: FusionCharts v3 (http://www.fusioncharts.com/) XML/SWF Charts (http://www.maani.us/xml%5Fcharts/index.php) amCharts (http://www.amcharts.com/) AnyChart (http://www.anychart.com/home/) Javascript: Flot (http://code.google.com/p/flot/) Flotr (http://solutoire.com/flotr/) jqPlot (http://www.jqplot.com/index.php) (If I missed some that worth to be compared against the above please let me know.) What I am looking is opinions on using any of the above so I can form my own and help others do the same, based on what I read here. I do not care which one is better. What I care for is why someone likes one of the above and what do these controls offer as a distinct advantage. I am interested in developer's opinion and I would like to find out which things are difficult doing with any of the above controls and which things are easy to achieve. AJAX compatibility (build in to the controls but also manual), ASP.NET compatibility, input capabilities, data binding options, performance, how much code does one need to write in order to create a chart, are some of the things that I would want to read about. I have already done my research on StackOverflow for relevant questions but there is nothing on the level of detail that I would want to read in order to make a responsible decision.
