• opening a file attachment from an outlook email using clickonce and a file association

  Hi, I have a clickonce application (VS2010, .NET 4). I have registered a file association (.task), and this all works well. If I double click a file with the .task extension on the desktop the clickonce application opens and can open the file. If I email the file however, and double click the file from within outlook, I get the open/save dialog. If I click open nothing appears to happen. If I save the file I can open it by double clicking on it. Any ideas why the file does not open from within outlook ? Thanks, Mark

• Telerik RadEditor working issue under VS2008

  I've a SharePoint portal for tracking questions in a list. When I open an list item in IE8 Telerik Editor works fine. But if I open this page inside VS2008 in browser mode this control starts to do unexpected actions. It's the Telerik RadEditor for Sharepoint v. 5.3.2.0. Is it a bug of VS2008 or a bug of Telerik RadEditor? Steps to reproduce: Install Telerik RadEditor in SharePoint portal Create a List with Rich editing field and create a new item Paste or type a text into Rich editing field and save changes Open VS2008 Click on any link in start page to open browser window Open created list item in VS in editing mode Mark a part of text in Rich editing field Marked text disappears.   Hello, I have a Windows Form Application (Form1) that allow the user to open another Forms (FormGraph). In order to open the FormGraph App I use a thread that open it.   I can open a trip only once but can close it multiple times. I can not declare the Trip_no + status as primary key since there can be multiple entries while closing the trip. Is there any way that will assure me that a trip number is opened only once?   I am trying to open an Excel (xlsm) file via VBA. It may or may not be protected with a (known) password. I am using this code: On Error Resume Next Workbooks.Open filename, Password:=user_entered_pw opened = (Err.Number=0) On Error Goto 0 Now, this works fine if the workbook has a password. But if it is unprotected, it can NOT be opened. Apparently this is a bug in XL2007 if there is also workbook structure protection active. (http://vbaadventures.blogspot.com/2009/01/possible-error-in-excel-2007.html). On old XL2003, supplying a password would open both unprotected and password protected file. I tried: Workbooks.Open filename, Password:=user_entered_pw If (Err.Number <> 0) Then workbooks.open filename This works for unprotected and protected file. However if the user enters a wrong password it runs into the second line and pops up the "enter password" prompt, which I do not want. How to get around this?

  I've got a little problem with an A* algorithm that I need to constrict a little bit. Basically : I use an A* to find the shortest path between 2 randomly placed room in 3D space, and then build a corridor between them. The problem I found is that sometimes it makes chimney like corridors that are not ideal, so I constrict the A* so that if the last movement was up or down, you go sideways. Everything is fine, but in some corner cases, it fails to find a path (when there is obviously one).   Hi Kernel Gurus, I'm currently writing a simple "multicaster" module. Only one process can open a proc filesystem file for writing, and the rest can open it for reading. To do so i use the inode_operation .permission callback, I check the operation and when i detect someone open a file for writing I set a flag ON. i need a way to detect if a process that opened a file for writing has decided to close the file so i can set the flag OFF, so someone else can open for writing. Currently in case someone is open for writing i save the current-pid of that process and when the .close callback is called I check if that process is the one I saved earlier. Is there a better way to do that? Without saving the pid, perhaps checking the files that the current process has opened and it's permission... Thanks!

And then if I close .menu-item a so... #menu-2 open. How can I do to fix?

• Test plans and how best to write them

  We're trying to figure out the best way to write tests in our test plan. Specifically, when writing a test that is meant to be used by anyone including QA staff, should the steps in the test be very specific or more broad giving the tester more leeway in how the task can be accomplished. As a very simple example, if you're testing opening a document in word processing document, should the test read: Using the mouse, open the file menu Choose "Open File..." in the file menu In the open file dialog that appears, navigate to x and double-click the document called y OR Bring up the file open dialog Open the file y Now I realize one answer is probably going to be "it depends on what you're trying to test" but I'm trying to answer a broader question here: If the test steps are too specific do we risk a) making the testing process to laborious and tedious and more importantly b) do we risk missing something because we wrote down too specific a path to achieve a goal. Alternatively, if we make it broad do we depend too much on the whims of the tester at the time and lose crucial testing of paths that are more common to customers/clients?

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with processing a largeish file in Python. All I'm doing is f = gzip.open(pathToLog, 'r') for line in f: counter = counter + 1 if (counter % 1000000 == 0): print counter f.close This takes around 10m25s just to open the file, read the lines and increment this counter. In perl, dealing with the same file and doing quite a bit more (some regular expression stuff), the whole process takes around 1m17s.   Hi guys, i've a huge problem. Take a look to this sample code private sub FUNCTION1() dim conn as new mysqlconnection(myconnstring) conn.open ---- do something FUNCTION2() ---- conn.close end sub private sub FUNCTION2() dim conn as new mysqlconnection(myconnstring) .... conn.open -- do something conn.close end sub Despite i close regulary all my connection, they remains "open" on the mysql server. I know this because i'm using MySQL Administration tool to check how many connection i open "line by line" of my source code. In fact i get a lot of time "user has exceeded the 'max_user_connections' resource (current value: 5)" My hoster permit ONLY 5 connection, but i think that if i write GOOD source code, this cannot be a problem. So my question is: why that "damn" connections remain open ?? Thank you in advance!

• F# WPF Form &ndash; the basics

  I was listening to Dot Net Rocks show #560 about F# and during the podcast Richard Campbell brought up a good point with regards to F# and a GUI. In essence what I understood his point to be was that until one could write an end to end application in F#, it would be a hard sell to developers to take it on. In part I agree with him, while I am beginning to really enjoy learning F#, I can’t but help feel that I would be a lot further into the language if I could do my Windows Forms like I do in C# or VB.NET for the simple reason that in “playing” applications I spend the majority of the time in the UI layer… So I have been keeping my eye out for some examples of creating a WPF form in a F# project and came across Tim’s F# Twitter Stream Sample, which had exactly this…. of course he actually had a bit more than a basic form… but it was enough for me to scrap the insides and glean what I needed. So today I am going to make just the very basic WPF form with all the goodness of a XAML window. Getting Started First thing we need to do is create a new solution with a blank F# application project – I have made mine called FSharpWPF. Once you have the project created you will need to change the project type from a Console Application to a Windows Application. You do this by right clicking on the project file and going to its properties… Once that is done you will need to add the appropriate references. You do this by right clicking on the References in the Solution Explorer and clicking “Add Reference'”. You should add the appropriate .Net references below for WPF & XAMl to work. Once these references are added you then need to add your XAML file to the project. You can do this by adding a new item to the project of type xml and simply changing the file extension from xml to xaml. Once the xaml file has been added to the project you will need to add valid window XAML. Example of a very basic xaml file is shown below… <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="F# WPF WPF Form" Height="350" Width="525"> <Grid> </Grid> </Window> Once your xaml file is done… you need to set the build action of the xaml file from “None” to “Resource” as depicted in the picture below. If you do not set this you will get an IOException error when running the completed project with a message along the lines of “Cannot locate resource ‘window.xaml’ You then need to tie everything up by putting the correct F# code in the Program.fs to load the xaml window. In the Program.fs put the following code… module Program open System open System.Collections.ObjectModel open System.IO open System.Windows open System.Windows.Controls open System.Windows.Markup [<STAThread>] [<EntryPoint>] let main(_) = let w = Application.LoadComponent(new System.Uri("/FSharpWPF;component/Window.xaml", System.UriKind.Relative)) :?> Window (new Application()).Run(w) Once all this is done you should be able to build and run your project. What you have done is created a WPF based window inside a FSharp project. It should look something like below…   Nothing to exciting, but sufficient to illustrate the very basic WPF form in F#. Hopefully in future posts I will build on this to expose button events etc.

• Issues printing through ssh tunnel and port forwarding

  I'm having some problems trying to print through a ssh tunnel. I'd like to print from my laptop to a network printer (Toshiba es453, for what matters) which is in a local network. I can reach the local network using a gateway. So far I did the following: ssh -N -L19100:<Printer_IP>:9100 <username>@<ssh_gateway> Basically i just mapped the port 19100 of my laptop directly to the input port of the printer, passing through the gateway. So far, so good. Then, i tried to install on my laptop a new printer with the GUI config tool of ubuntu, so that the new printer is on localhost at port 19100 (as APP Socket/HP Jet Direct) , then I provided the proper driver of the printer. In theory, once the tunnel is open I should be able to print from any program just selecting this printer. From a machine inside the local network I did a telnet <IP_printer> 9100, got access, wrote some random thing, closed the connection and correctly I got a print of what I had written. So the port and the ip of the printer should be correct. I tried the same from my laptop with the tunnel opened, the telnet succeeded but, again, the printer didn't print anything, getting the usual channel x: open failed: errors. I'm not a great expert on the matter, I just thought that in theory it was possible to do something like that, but maybe there is something that I didn't consider or I did wrong. Any clue? Thanks! Simone [update] As further debugging test, I tried to replicate the procedure from a machine in the local network. From that machine, I did ssh -N -L19100:<IP_printer>:9100 <username>@<ssh_gateway> (note that now the machine, the gateway and the printer are in the same local network) then I tried again the telnet test with telnet localhost 19100, I got access and everything, but I didn't get the print but the usual error channel 2: open failed: connect failed: Connection timed out Maybe I am missing some other connection to be forwarded or maybe this is not allowed by the administrators. Of course, if I connect via ssh tunneling to the local machine from my laptop through the gateway, I can successfully print using the lpr command (from the local machine). But this is what I would like to avoid (yes, I'm lazy...:-), I would like to have a more 'elegant' and transparent way to do that.

  In this post I’m going to demonstrate how to create SharePoint List and also Insert Items on the List from a Windows Forms Application. 1. Open Visual Studio and create a new project. On the project template select Windows Form Application under C#. 2. In order to communicate with Sharepoint from a Windows Forms Application we need to add the 2 Sharepoint Client DLL located in c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\ISAPI.  3. Select the Microsoft.Sharepoint.Client.dll and Microsoft.Sharepoint.Client.Runtime.dll. (Your solution should look like the one below) 4. Open the Form1 in design view and from the Toolbox menu add a button on the form surface. Your form should look like the one below. 5. Double click the button to open the code view. Add Using statement to reference the Sharepoint Client Library then create method for the Create List. • How to make Nlog archive a file with the date when the logging took place.

  Hi, We are using Nlog as our logging framework and I cannot find a way to archive files the way I want. I would like to have the date of when the logging took place in the logging file name.   I am developing a gwt application in maven. In this I am using maven war plugin. Everything works fine. When I give mvn install command it builds abc.war file in target folder. But it is not copying compiled javascript files ("module1" and "module2" directories present in target) to war directory. I want to get newly compiled javascript files in war directory. • Sudden issues reading uncompressed video using opencv

  I have been using a particular pipeline to process video using opencv to encode uncompressed video (fourcc = 0), and opencv python bindings to then open and work on these files. This has been working fine for me on OpenCV 2.3.1a on Ubuntu 11.10 until just a few days ago. For some reason it currently is only allowing me to read the first frame of a given file the first time I open that file. Further frames are not read, and once I touch the file once with my program, it then cannot even read the first frame. More detail: I created the uncompressed video files as follows: out_video.open(out_vid_name, 0, // FOURCC = 0 means record raw fps, Size(640, 480)) Again, these videos worked fine for me until about a week ago. Now, when I try to open one of these I get the following message (from what I think is ffmpeg): Processing video.avi Using network protocols without global network initialization. Please use avformat_network_init(), this will become mandatory later. [avi @ 0x29251e0] parser not found for codec rawvideo, packets or times may be invalid. It reads and displays the first frame fine, but then fails to read the next frame. Then, when I try to run my code on the same video, the capture still opens with the same message as above. However, it cannot even read the very first frame. Here is the code to open the capture: self.capture = cv2.VideoCapture(filename) if not self.capture.isOpened() print "Error: could not open capture" sys.exit() Again, this part is passed without any issue, but then the break happens at: success, rgb = self.capture.read() if not success: print "error: could not read frame" return False This part breaks at the second frame on the first run of the video file, and then on the first frame on subsequent runs. I really don't know where to even begin debugging this. Please help!

• F# Async problem.

  Hi, I've written a dummy http server as an exercise in F#. I'm using Mono 2.4.4 on Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64, with MonoDevelop. The following code fails to compile with the error: Error FS0039: The field, constructor or member 'Spawn' is not defined (FS0039) Could someone try this in VisualStudio please, I don't know whether this is a Mono problem, or my problem. I have tried several Async examples from the F# book, and they also all produce similar messages about Async.* methods.
