  There’s a good piece written by Ann Grackin of ChainLink Research on the Manufacturing Leadership 100 Awards program held recently in Palm Beach Fl, Apr 30-May 3, 2012.  This article (link below) highlights the summary of the Summit with specific focus on manufacturing innovation.  There were several informative keynotes and sessions from industrial leaders who are leveraging the latest tools and technologies to make better decisions. Ann writes that she was a panelist with Cindy Reese, SVP, Worldwide Operations, Oracle; and Steven Tungate, VP/GM, Supply Chain & Innovation, Toshiba America Business Solutions about Factories and Supply Networks of the Future. Ann writes “So what are these manufacturers doing? Significant rationalization of the supply base (Toshiba, especially, has this issue since they have a long history of many acquisitions), streamlining production to increase productivity, and looking for lower-cost countries for manufacturing….  No doubt firms have global customer bases, so they need to be present in these markets. However, a low-cost-country manufacturing source does introduce more risk in the supply chain. And that was discussed. Quality, security, and intellectual property protection were the critical global manufacturing issues also discussed. “Cindy (Reese) told a fascinating story about Oracle’s acquisition of Sun and the supply chain that was subsequently created. Here was one of the key points: Although Oracle sells on a global basis, they now do their own factory-installed software. This keeps potential ‘factory-installed malware’ from getting into the servers at contract manufacturers, and prevents pirated software. • Cannot log into Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g: ORA-28001

  I can no longer log into Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g. I get this error message: ORA-28001: the password has expired (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin) I could log into the server using SQL*Plus. I warned me that the password was going to expire in 7 days (which is not the same as being already expired). Following advice from several documents, I ran these commands from SQL*Plus: ALTER USER sys IDENTIFIED BY new_password; ALTER USER system IDENTIFIED BY new_password; SQL*Plus no longer warns about passwords, but I still cannot use the Enterprise Manager. Then I followed this to remove password expiration: ALTER PROFILE default LIMIT password_life_time UNLIMITED And I've also restarted the Oracle services. In case it was using cached credentials, I've tried to connect from several browsers in several computers. No way: I still get ORA-28001 in Enterprise Manager. What am I missing? • Oracle Virtual Server OEL vm fails to start - kernel panic on cpu identify

  I am in the process of following a guide to setup various oracle vm templates, so far I have installed OVS 2. 2 and got the OVM Manager working, imported the template for OEL5U5 and created a vm from it.. the problem comes when starting that vm. • OAM OVD integration - Error Encounterd while performance test "LDAP response read timed out, timeout used:2000ms"

  While working on OAM OVD integration for one of my client, I have been involved in the performance test of the products wherein I encountered OAM authentication failures while talking to OVD during heavy load. OAM logs revealed the following: oracle.security.am.common.policy.common.response.ResponseException: oracle.security.am.engines.common.identity.provider.exceptions.IdentityProviderException: OAMSSA-20012: Exception in getting user attributes for user : dummy_user1, idstore MyIdentityStore with exception javax.naming.NamingException: LDAP response read timed out, timeout used:2000ms.; remaining name 'ou=people,dc=oracle,dc=com' at oracle.security.am.common.policy.common.response.IdentityValueProvider.getUserAttribute(IdentityValueProvider.java:271) ... During the authentication and authorization process, OAM complains that the LDAP repository is taking too long to return user attributes.The default value is 2 seconds as can be seen from the exception, "2000ms". While troubleshooting the issue, it was found that we can increase the ldap read timeout in oam-config.xml.  For reference, the attribute to add in the oam-config.xml file is: <Setting Name="LdapReadTimeout" Type="xsd:string">2000</Setting> However it is not recommended to increase the time out unless it is absolutely necessary and ensure that back-end directory servers are working fine. Rather I took the path of tuning OVD in the following manner: 1) Navigate to ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OPMN/opmn folder and edit opmn.xml. Search for <data id="java-options" ………> and edit the contents of the file with the highlighted items: <category id="start-options"><data id="java-bin" value="$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java"/><data id="java-options" value="-server -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Dvde.soTimeoutBackend=0 -Didm.oracle.home=$ORACLE_HOME -Dcommon.components.home=$ORACLE_HOME/../oracle_common -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCDateStamps -Xloggc:/opt/bea/Middleware/asinst_1/diagnostics/logs/OVD/ovd1/ovdGClog.log -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -Doracle.security.jps.config=$ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/JPS/jps-config-jse.xml"/><data id="java-classpath" value="$ORACLE_HOME/ovd/jlib/vde.jar$:$ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/ojdbc6.jar"/></category></module-data><stop timeout="120"/><ping interval="60"/></process-type> When the system is busy, a ping from the Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server (OPMN) to Oracle Virtual Directory may fail. As a result, OPMN will restart Oracle Virtual Directory after 20 seconds (the default ping interval). To avoid this, consider increasing the ping interval to 60 seconds or more. 2) Navigate to ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OVD/ovd1 folder.Open listeners.os_xml file and perform the following changes: · Search for <ldap id=”Ldap Endpoint”…….> and point the cursor to that line. · Change threads count to 200. · Change anonymous bind to Deny. · Change workQueueCapacity to 8096. Add a new parameter <useNIO> and set its value to false viz: <useNIO>false</useNio> Snippet: <ldap version="8" id="LDAP Endpoint"> ....... .......  <socketOptions><backlog>128</backlog>         <reuseAddress>false</reuseAddress>         <keepAlive>false</keepAlive>         <tcpNoDelay>true</tcpNoDelay>         <readTimeout>0</readTimeout>      </socketOptions> <useNIO>false</useNIO></ldap> Restart OVD server. For more information on OVD tuneup refer to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25054_01/core.1111/e10108/ovd.htm. Please Note: There were few patches released from OAM side for performance tune-up as well. • Siebel CRM: Alive and Jamming at OpenWorld

Sorry, but we are getting excited about OpenWorld and all of the great CRM and Customer Experience sessions we've been planning for the past 6 months (yes, we really do start planning in March!). • Expanding the Partner Ecosystem with Third-Party Plug-ins

  Oracle Enterprise Manager’s extensibility capabilities are designed to allow customers and partners to adapt Enterprise Manager for management of heterogeneous environments with Plug-ins and Connectors.  Third-party developers continue to take advantage of Oracle Enterprise Manager’s Extensibility Development Kit (EDK) to build plug-ins to Enterprise Manager 12c, such as F5’s BIG IP Plug-in and Entuity’s Eye of the Storm Network Management Plug-In.  Partners can also validate their plug-ins through the Oracle Validated Integration (OVI) program, which assures customers that the plug-in has been tested and is functionally and technically sound, is designed in a reliable and standardized manner, and operates and performs as documented.   Two very recent examples of partners which have beta versions of their plug-ins are Blue Medora's VMware vSphere plug-in and the NetApp Storage plug-in.  VMware vSphere Plug-in by Blue Medora Blue Medora, an Oracle Partner Network (OPN) “Gold” member, which just announced that it is now signing up customers to try a beta version of their new VMware vSphere plug-in for Enterprise Manager 12c.  According to Blue Medora, the vSphere plug-in monitors critical VMware metrics (CPU, Memory, Disk, Network, etc) at the Host, VM, Cluster and Resource Pool levels.  It has minimal performance impact via an “agentless” approach that requires no installation directly on VMware servers.  It has discovery capabilities for VMware Datacenters, ESX Hosts, Clusters, Virtual Machines, and Datastores.  It offers integration of native VMware Events into Enterprise Manager, and it provides over 300 VMware-related health, availability, performance, and configuration metrics.  It comes with more than 30 out-of-the-box pre-defined thresholds and can manage VMware via a series of jobs split between cluster, host and VM target types.The company reports that the Enterprise Manager 12c plug-in supports vSphere versions 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0.  Platforms supported include Linux 64-bit, Windows, AIX and Solaris SPARC and x86.  Information about the plug-in, including how to sign up for the beta, is available at their web site at http://bluemedora.com after selecting the "Products" tab. NetApp Storage Plug-in NetApp believes the combination of storage system monitoring with comprehensive management of Oracle systems with Enterprise Manager will help customers reduce the cost and complexity of managing applications that rely on NetApp storage and Oracle technologies.  So, NetApp built a plug-in and reports that it has comprehensive availability and performance information for NetApp storage systems.  Using the plug-in, Oracle Enterprise Manager customers with NetApp storage solutions can track the association between databases and storage components and thereby respond to faults and IO performance bottlenecks quickly. With the latest configuration management capabilities, one can also perform drift analysis to make sure all storage systems are configured as per established gold standards. The company is also now signing up beta customers, which can be done at the NetApp Communities site at https://communities.netapp.com/groups/netapp-storage-system-plug-in-for-oem12c-beta. • Error Connecting to Oracle Database from Pentaho Report Designer

  Hi all, I am new to Pentaho, and I am struggling to set up a new database connection. I am trying to connect to an Oracle 10g database, but whenever I test the connection, I get the below error. It doesn't really seem to list any specific error message so I'm not really sure what to do or where to go from this point. I placed ojdbc jar's in my tomcat lib folder, but maybe there is another place those should go. Any help/hints would be greatly appreciated.   I have an Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1) Database running on Linux (x64). Within the database I have a schema and 33 tables for it. When I log in via sqlplus I can list all the tables via SELECT OBJECT_NAME FROM USER_OBJECTS WHERE OBJECT_TYPE = 'TABLE'; But when I export the Tablespace using exp ... BUFFER=65536 FULL=N COMPRESS=N CONSISTENT=Y TABLESPACES=... FILE=... Then it only exports 24 of the 33 tables. I have tried to export the missing tables via exp ... TABLES=<missing_table> ... But then I get an error: EXP-00011: NPSMIGRO2_CM.DEFAULT_USR_ATTR_VALUES does not exist How can I find out what's wrong here? How can I export all the tables?

• Oracle Internet Directory - Required Schemas already loaded

  After a successful installation of Oracle Internet Directories (OID) I attemped to remove and re-install it with a different configuration. First I ran ./runInstaller.sh -deinstall from the OID middleware directory to uninstall. Then i ran the installer again but it complained on the Specify Schema Database step. Upon connecting to the database, the installer threw: INST-5174: Required schemas are already loaded in the specified database. I connected to the target database and removed the OID schemas I knew of SQL> drop user ODS cascade; SQL> drop user ODSSM cascade; That didn't not work and the error still appears. What steps am I missing? Note: The Database is 11g and it was brand new before installing OID so there is no other data select * from all_users doesn't show any other schemas related to OID from what I can tell, the latest user creation date is OCT 2010

• Javascript new keyword and memory management

  Coming from C++ it is hard grained into my mind that everytime I call new I call delete. In javascript I find myself calling new occasionally in my code but (hoping) the garbage collection functionality in the browser will take care of the mess for me. I don't like this - is there a 'delete' method in javascript and is how I use it different from in C++? Thanks.

By default whenever someone logs into their google Apps account they pretty much are logged into the application. For every action taken by a registered login in user I store the user ID of that signed in user whenever an update is made in the database. However the google apps user sign in process is different in this respect that there isn't anything visible as a user ID for me to work with. Any ideas?

• SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 has no Configuration Manager

  Where is the configuration manager for SQL Express 2005? I need to configure SQL Server for TCP/IP but there is no configuration manager with the package. I see SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard, I see SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access, but no Configuration Manager. According to the MSDN, there should be one. I've even looked online for a download of the Configuration Manager for SQL Server 2005, but could not find one. Did I miss something in the download or should I just scrap SQL Server Express and download the full-blown SQL Server for Developers?

• Oracle LogMiner (Unsupported Operation)

  Hi all, I'm currently using Oracle 11g on RHEL5. I'm digging to see what are in the archived log files. After I query from v$logmnr_contents, I see many transactions of UNSUPPORTED operation. What do these unsupported transactions mean? I think that it's the cause that make my database generates lots of archived logs. Moreover, I'm using global temporary table for generating reports. I discover that when I insert and delete from those temporary table, it also records in the archived log file. How to do to reduce those recorded transactions? Regards, Sarith
