    I have create a script to start a server(my first question). Now I want it to run on the system boot and start the defined server. What should I do to get this done? My findings tell me put this file in /etc/init.d location and it will execute when the system will boot. But I am not able to understand how the first argument on the startup will be start? Is this predefined somewhere to use start as $1? If I want to have a case startall that will start all the servers in the script, then what are the options I can manage.   • How do I disable certain folders from appearing in my IMAP client when using Gmail?

    I'm using the newest version of Gmail, as far as I know, and there used to be the option in Settings - Labels that said "Show in IMAP" next to label/folder names. This option is no longer there, unfortunately. How do I hide specific labels/folders, e.g. All Mail, from Thunderbird, my IMAP client? In both Firefox 17.0 and Chromium 20.0.1132.47 on Ubuntu 12.04, without an extensions, these options do not appear, so it doesn't appear to be a browser issue. In the past, I had to enable "Advanced IMAP Controls" in Settings - Labs for the "Show in IMAP" controls to appear, but according to this post, those controls "graduated" and should appear under Settings- Labels. What can I do to show or hide specific folders in IMAP?

I need to bypass cache when the query string is empty. I am a bit lost because location /foobar will match both.

    I want an NX or VNC session to start automatically when an Ubuntu server boots up - without a monitor connected - loading a certain user's desktop and keeping it loaded and ready until I log in via NX or VNC. How would one accomplish that? This code works via my terminal when I am logged in as the NX user, but not via root, and not in the init.d folder.   • Why doesn't my sound card start? It reports code 10.

    When I installed the XP for first time my sound card was working fine. But only after the first reboot it has stopped working. Under Device Manager, the section "sound video and game controller" the entry YAMAHA Native DS1 WDM Driver, has a exclamation mark on it. On left clicking and selecting properties it shows this message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". On trying to update driver it says a better driver can not be found. Any idea how I can solve the issue? Update: As suggested by harrymc I uninstalled the device "YAMAHA Native DS1 WDM Driver" , and scanned for hardware changes. The windows detected and installed the soundcard and it started working properly.BUT, after restarting the same problem occurs. So, now everytime I reboot the computer I am stuck to, repeating the process of uninstalling the device to make it work.

    Whenever I plug any USB device into my computer while running Windows Media Player 12 in Windows 7, it will automatically swtich the player from the Now Playing mode to Library mode. This is intended to faciliate syncing between Media Player and MP3 players, but it happens for any USB device. I'd like this to not happen since it's infuriating to see this take place while I'm watching something on a separate screen in Media Player just from plugging in a USB key. This has nothing to do with Windows autorun, and nothing to do with versions of Windows pre-7. And no, switching to some other video player is not an option; I've tried them all, none are as good as stock Media Player in 7.

    Hello all, I've just started in a new company, and have been going over the setup of their Apache webserver conf files... only to find that they've had their apache servers set up as open proxies available to all the world for the last two months. I've already set ProxyRequests Off in the httpd.conf file and restarted the web server, but the access log file is still growing at a horrendous rate (about a gig a day). I noticed that another question was posted on here about this (http://serverfault.com/questions/63715/apache-hit-with-proxy-request), but their access log was supposedly returning 404 errors, while mine appears to be returning 403 and 404 codes... Is this correct?     Heyas So the question is pretty much in the title. Things to note: 'Use On-Screen Keyboard' is un-checked I have disabled Ease of Access by replacing utilman.exe But my problem now is that when I'm typing my password, It'll stop all together on the 'u' or the 'p' character and I have to click on the ease of access button then move focus back to the password to continue. Yes, one obvious solution is to not use a password that has 'u' or 'p' in it (which I've done), but that's obviously not a completely satisfying answer. Thanks! I feel a tumbleweed badge...

    I am unable to boot into my Ubuntu system. First I get that fsck died with exit status 4 Then I try to do it manually as prompted and I get that an Inode has illegal blocks and asked to clear it. Upon googling, I found that is because my HD has some problems I booted via Live cd and took a dd of the entire Ubuntu on an external HDD just in case. Is it safe to clear all the illegal blocks. How do I safely restore my environment if I replace my HD. Is there any thing i can do in the meanwhile to continue to use my laptop without significant loss of data. Perhaps a related error, the x server fails to start

My users are running an application from Win2008 Terminal server using RemoteApp. If the application remains idle for 10 minutes it gets "locked" and the user is required to enter username and password to continue using it. This is VERY VERY annoying as the app usually sits idle for bout 20-30 minutes, used for 1 min... repeat.

    PHP 5.3.3 compiled on Mac OS X 10.6 - using /usr/lib when trying to start Apache... rather than /opt/local/lib specified when PHP was configured. Why is it trying to load from /usr/lib when I specified in my configure not to? httpd: Syntax error on line 115 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so, 10): Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so\n Reason: Incompatible library version: libphp5.so requires version 8.0.0 or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 7.0.0 The error message above refers to /opt/local/lib which when I run: otool -LD /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib Message: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib (compatibility version 8.0.0, current version 8.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 125.0.0) It shows that the version is different than what httpd is erring out as.     Someone in IT thought it would be a good idea to modify the default behavior of the command cd in our tcsh environment. As of Monday the "upgraded" version of cd always prints out $PWD after it navigates to the new directory. e.g. % cd ~/ Directory: /nfs/pdx/home/rbroger1 which cd yields no results so it isn't being alias'd. Is there some environment variable or normal tcsh variable that is being set in our setup scripts to produce this output? I don't want to change all my scripts to use a wrappered or alias'd cd. I just want plain ol' cd.

    I am using Pidgin 2.7.1 on Windows XP and I noticed that if I am in a conversation window and I press Ctrl+L, it clears my conversation history and there is no easy way of getting it back (as far as I know). I think this keyboard shortcut is very annoying. I never do this on purpose. It usually happens if I think I am in Firefox and I try to focus the address bar by pressing Ctrl+L, but instead end up clearing my pidgin scrollback. I have no use for such a quick and easy way of triggering a feature that I will rarely, if ever have any reason to use. Is there any way of disabling the keyboard shortcut?

  • Can Apache 2 be configured to start sending gzipped data early?

    We have Apache set up to gzip compress html pages before they are sent to the client browser. However, some of our pages are slowish to generate and it seems that Apache is holding on until it has the complete page, compressing it, then sending it to the browser. There are big chunks of the page (the main important bits) that are actually generated and output fairly quickly. Is it possible to configure Apache to start compressing and send data for the page as soon as the script starts outputting something? Is it is, can you offer any help is how to do this? If not, can you suggest any other way to get gzip compression working for the server? The scripts that generate the pages are written in PHP. We are using Apache 2.0 on Linux.

  • How disable Apple iCal from popping up with every email invite/update?

    My iCal has new behavior (since upgrading to SL). Every time I get an ical attachment in Mail, the iCal app flies up in my face. I don't see any way to turn off this behavior and it's amazingly disruptive when I'm busy with other activities. Help? EDIT: I want iCal to add the invitations, so when I cmd-tab to the app those items are in the queue awaiting approval. What I am hoping to learn is how to stop the popup action forcing the application to become the top-level window.

    If I have multiple downloads I can have them all download simultaneously or pause one and let the other download and then when the 1st is done I manually pause it and have the second download, afterward I let both seed for a while. But How can I set it so that the 2nd torrent will start downloading only after the 1st has finished. And is it possible to have the 1st pause seeding after it has finished downloading. I have nothing against seeding but I want to wait till all my downloads are done before sole seeding. If these things aren't possible in uTorrent is there another client that handles these things?

    I have an internet connection that I'd like to be enabled only during the day. With multiple household internet devices, this would need to be something disabled at the level of the router. I don't believe the router offers this sort of functionality, but I'm reasonably familiar with setting up web servers and the like, and I'm wondering if I can set up some sort of proxy server on the internet that the router must go through and have that proxy only active at certain times of day. It's a bit vague I know, but is something like this even possible? If not, are there other solutions to the problem?
