• Symmetrix gatekeepers on Solaris 10

  I have some Solaris machines that are connected to EMC Symmetrix for SAN storage. Apparently the Symm has a gatekeeper device that is used with the symmetrix CLI. We don't need the CLI, but I have these gatekeeper devices that constantly fill /var/adm/messages and the like with corrupt label errors. Is there anything I can do (short of deleting the devices on machine start) to get rid of them? Or should I just try to get our SAN guy to get the installer for the CLI? These things are getting annoying, and the devfsadmd daemon keeps rediscovering them on boot.

• FreeNAS - how to "Exclude from file" in Rsyncd (GUI)

  I am trying to set rsync tasks to Pull user profiles from 11 Windows machines running DeltaCopy Server and then configure ZFS periodic snapshot tasks for a backup solution. So far this has been working fine, although i would like to exclude certain file types like .DAT or NTUSER.DAT. My Exclusion file resides on the local ZFS Dataset (Receiving side) and is as follows: Temp Temporary Internet Files NTUSER.DAT NTUSER.DAT.LOG *.dat *.tmp *.DAT.log *.ost *.pst The command i typed under Auxiliary Parameters (Rsyncd Global Conf under services)is as follows: exclude from = /mnt/Storage/User_Profiles/exclude.txt Ive tried deleting the .DAT files from the receiving end and just as i start to get excited i click refresh and there they are again

• Is it possible to create a delta VM?

  I have a VM of approx. 18GB. Sometimes I need temporally clones of it, so I clone it. The problems are: * It takes a while until it's done. * Sometimes I happen to need dozen of clones and I'm running out of storage. I wonder if there's a way to create a VM that saves only the delta (difference) since the delployment out of the source machine. That way each new VM's filesize should be 100MB at most, and creating it will be much faster. I've heard that VMWare View is using this concept. Is such a thing possible for ESXi as well? I'm using ESXi 4.1 with VSphere 4.1. Thanks!

• How do you passthrough native SATA drives to a guest on ESXi?

  I have ESXi 4.0 running on an Intel DX58S0 Mothboardboard with an Intel Core i7 930 processor. VT-d is also enabled. I have three drives in the system, drive 0 is used for ESXi. Drive 1 and 2 contain data from an older machine and show up under the "Storage Adapters" section in configuration. I would like to allow a guest machine to access the data on these drives (as nativly as possible). I have enabled passthrough of the motherboard's built in SATA controller (Intel/Marvell 88SE6121 ). This controller shows up in my guest OS, but the guest shows no drives aside from the normal virtual drive. I have tried a Linux guest and Windows7. I have also configured the host machine to try IDE/RAID/ACHI modes for the SATA controller. Any ideas how I can configure one of my guests to get at the raw data on these drives?

• I've created a software RAID on SUSE EL 10 and now I need to monitor it.......

  I have created a Software Raid using the yast2 GUI on SUSE ES 10/11. The raid works great and it's a raid 5. I have 5 Drives they are cheap 2GB Cases that have 2 - 1TB Drives in each case (Serial ATA Drives) and I connect them in via Esata to the motherboard. The problem I have as this is "cheap" storage when of the the 5 drives goes out on the RAID I seem to have no logs of any issues and it get's harder and harder to write to it until it dies. I use SAMBA to mount the 4TB parition to my PC's in my home on a GIG network. My question is this, are there any good (Free) tools in Linux to monitor a raid or the drives on the raid to detect any problems??? I haven't found any yet and was just wondering if some exist.

• Auto height for label or textview within table view cell

  Hi Folks, I have a problem in an iPhone application. Application has a table view controller with custom table view cells. Each cell has a Label (please correct me if I need to use text view etc). I am getting text dynamically from a web service call and I don't know how long text gonna be. Now problem is that I want to adjust the table view cell height based on text I receive. How can I grow Label or TextView height withinin table view cell so it can contain all the text and in effect grow table view cell height. Does anyone know how to handle this kind of design problem? • Backup Exec backup-to-disk folder creation - Access denied

  I'm having a difficult time creating a backup-to-disk folder in Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 and Backup Exec 2010. The backend storage is a Nexenta/ZFS-based NAS filer sharing the volume via CIFS. I've also seen the issue on other *nix-based NAS devices. I've attempted mapping the drive, providing the full paths to the folder, etc. I can browse to the share just fine from within Windows, but Backup Exec fails to create the B2D folder with different variants of a Unable to create new backup folder. Access denied error. I've attempted creating service accounts in Backup Exec to handle the authentication, but nothing seems to work. What's the key to making this work?

• Can someone correct me about Windows 2008 DFS implementation

  I have 2 two Windows 2003 file servers using DoubleTake at the moment. They are in an 2003 AD domain. And each server has it's own disk set. It is time to replace the servers... I want to use Windows 2008 64bit Ent. I was thinking of using DFS-R to replace DoubleTake. The part I'm not sure about is clustering. Do I need to have shared storage if each server has a copy of the data? I want to have the data available to the same share name, so maybe I don't fully understand how DFS is set up. I currently have about 6TB of data. I expect to grow by 3TB a year on these file servers. Any resources/books that could teach me would be good to know as well.

• Too much free space on FreeNAS - ZFS

  I have a FreeNAS server with 3 x 2 To disks in raidz1. I would expect to have about 4 To of space available. When I run zpool list I get: [root@freenas] ~# zpool list NAME SIZE USED AVAIL CAP HEALTH ALTROOT main_volume 5.44T 3.95T 1.49T 72% ONLINE /mnt I was expecting a size of 4 To. Also, used space as reported by zpool list does not match what's reported by du: [root@freenas] ~# du -sh /mnt/main_volume/ 2.6T /mnt/main_volume/ There are quite a few things that I dont yet completely understand about ZFS. But at the moment I am mostly worried that I misconfigured my system and that I dont have any storage redundancy. How can I make sure I did not do an horrible mistake ...   Hi, I have purchased AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2GHZ processor with supporting gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H mother board / 6GB DDR2 RAM / 500GB SATA drive for learning Vmware ESX 3.5 product. In the above configuration, I have installed windows xp 64 bit operating systems and continue to installed vmware workstation 6.5. From the VM workstation, I can able to install ESX3.5 update2, but I unable to start properly, please refer the below mention error. “Mounting root failed. Dropping into basic maintenance shell. To collect logs for VMware, connect a USB storage device and run 'bin/vm-support '. Machine will be rebooted when you exit from this shell.” The same was tested in the windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server / windows 7 32bit / windows 7 64bit also, Please help me to resolve the issue.

• TStringGrid with BOTH editing AND range selection?

  Question: Can anyone point to an article or code samples anywhere on how to provide BOTH editing AND range selection in a TStringGrid? Yes, I KNOW there are third-party grids that do this, but it's frustrating that the built-in grid lacks this basic capability. Background: It's pretty normal to expect to be able to both edit a cell in a grid, and also to select a range of cells such as for a Copy operation. As delivered, TStringGrid doesn't do that. It's either/or. In fact, the docs tell us about the grid Options, "When goEditing is included in Options, goRangeSelect has no effect". However, it looks like it may be possible to do editing and rangeselects in a TStringGrid anyway!!! Through careful use of the mousedown, mouseup, selectcell and exit events, you can get dang close by switching editing elements on and off at the right times. But I still don't have it perfect, and that only covers mouse use, not keyboard changes.

  Hi We need to set up a website which makes two or three large files publicly available - the files will be 1 or 2 terrabytes each. Although they will be public, in practise I expect only a relatively small number of scientists will want to download them. What is the best way to allow this? I've had a quick talk to a web-hosting provider (rackspace) and they suggested a hybrid solution. An entry-level managed server (we predict fairly low traffic for the website, but we do need to install some custom CGI software). Some cloud storage which hooks into Limelight Networks. This would host the large files, for download by FTP. It sounded OK to me but I know relatively little about server administration. Does it make sense? Thanks in advance, Mark

  hey all, well i want to have an autocompleting textbox like the one in the image below: this screenshot is from an accounting software. whenever the user focuses on a textbox and starts typing something the suggestions just popup under the control (as seen in the image under the Purc type textbox).This autosuggest functionality even works in the cells of the grid shown in the picture.Moreover the fields in which this autosuggest is enabled allows only values from the autosuggest list to be filled up and nothing else. i want to emulate similar functionality in my app in vb6. so if you could please guide me in the right direction i would be very grateful. thanks in advance to all those who take out time to reply.

But look like both the author and answerer have already abandoned it. v(hexagonSide - hexagonWidth * hexagonWidth): What's hexagonSide and hexagonWidth? Isn't it will < 0 (so square root can't be calculated). And, can I put a hexagon into a rectangle? I need to create a grid like this: One more thing, how can I arrange my array to store data, as well as get which cells are next to one cell? I have never been taught about hexagon, so I know nothing about it, but I can easily learn new thing, so if you can explain or give me a clue, I may do it myself.

• How to Mirror or Clone a Spanned Volume in Windows 2008

  I have a spanned volume (3x6+ TB disks spanned to one 20+ TB volume) that I need to mirror or clone to a new 20+ TB (unspanned) volume. Once mirrored or cloned I'm going to destroy the original volume and reuse the storage elsewhere. Windows 2008 will not allow me to mirror it because the original is a spanned volume. I cannot simply copy the data, because there are sparse files on the volume. So the OS thinks there is 150+ TB used on the disk when there really is only around 18TB used physically. When I try to use the copy command it won't run because it thinks the destination volume needs to be 150+ TB to hold it all. A conundrum, but I figure someone here has the answer. Thanks, Matt

• How can I override an HTML "rules" attribute using CSS?

  The DITA Open Toolkit automatically inflicts some inline table attributes when one publishes to HTML, including frame="border" and rules="all". I need to override this "rules" attribute using CSS styles for cells, and while I can get the desired result in IE and Chrome, Firefox puts solid black gridlines in the table and refuses to budge on the matter. Obviously I can't edit the HTML, company policy is to not edit the XSLT, so how can I remove these gridlines using CSS alone? I've tried various cunning combinations of border-xxxxxx styles and given them !important declarations to no effect. Thanks, Andrew

• Best way to convert from IMAP to POP3?

  At work, I connect to a corporate Exchange server via IMAP and Thunderbird 3. Over the course of a year or so, I've created quite a few folders on the server and have a lot of mail stored there. I'm hitting the storage limit of my mail account and want to convert to pulling mail down to my local box (running Linux) via POP3. I know that polling mail will only get mail in INBOX, but I'm wondering if there are solutions out there that could be used to pull mail from the other folders as well, or am I doomed to moving mail into the inbox manually and polling over and over again?

• CSS Make one row the width of another

  I'm sure this is a fairly common problem but I'm new to CSS so I'm not sure how it's done. I tried searching for the issue but sometimes it's tricky to get the right keywords. I have a table the width of which I want to be constrained by a specific row. My table css is as follows; table { border: 1px solid #ccc; width: auto; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } I have one row which contains cells for which I want the width to autofit and two rows of prose which currently force the table to take 100% width. How do I constrain the latter to have at most the autofit width of the first row? If tables aren't the way to go and this should be pure css and divs, how do you get one class to adopt the fixed but unknown width of another? Thanks, Gav

  Hi! I have a WHILE loop that loops through a table as long as $i is less than 10. I want this loop to assign the INNERHTML of each cell to a variable. So that I can use it later on to process the information (the loop is because you can choose if it has to take first 3 or first 10 cells). But how do I assign every innerHTML to a different variable? • HDD situation - what would be best - data and backup

  I just installed W8 on an Intel 330 180 GB SSD. I have 3 1TB HDDs. 1 HDD will be external for backup. 2 HDDs are then available for my PC. I do not need 2 TB of storage, so I thought I'd set these up to be exact clones of one another, so that if one dies I have a backup in the computer to go along with my external. Is this a good set up? How best would this be accomplished? I've heard people suggest RAID but I've never done RAID, have no idea what it is, and have no idea how to set it up in my BIOS.   What are some rough performance limits (read/s, write/s) for a single database server (no master-slave architecture), assuming storage on disk? How many read/s, write/s, depending on the kind of disk? (SSD vs non-SSD) , assuming simple operations (select one row by primary key, update one row, correctly indexed). I assume this limit is dependent on disk seek/write. EDIT: My question is more about getting rough metrics of the number of operations a database supports: to be able to know for example, if a new feature triggering 300 inserts/s can be supported without scaling out with additional servers.

• Attributed strings in UITableViewCells without WebView?

  Hello, does anyone know if there's a way in with 3.0+ to display attributed strings within a UITableViewCell without using a UIWebView for that? I need to display a string with linked, tappable substrings as the typical detailTextLabel. I wouldn't mind exchanging this UILabel against another type of view, but I think a UIWebView could be just too slow when rendering a table with hundrets of cells. Or does someone have opposite experiences here? So my question is: what's the best way to achieve mixed strings in a very large table without a great performance hit? I searched for this almost a whole day now, but I can only find old posts mentioning that there's no attributed string on the iPhone (outdated, as this was pre-3.0) and/or saying that they use a UIWebView for that. But really, I don't think this would perform very well on large tables, would it? Many, many thanks in advance Arne

• Archive Outlook mail items into SQL Server

  I am looking (and so far not finding any) for a solution to archive e-mail items from my Outlook into SQL Server. My PST is beginning to get really really big, and I'd love to extract my older e-mail into SQL Server in a way so I can still easily find mails if needed. I would prefer SQL Server as the storage medium since I'm familiar with it, and it's rock solid - I don't want to have a collection of PST files or CHM files or anything like that. Does anyone know of such a solution? I'm a power/home user - I can't afford $5'000 enterprise licenses - I need a sub-$100 solution for private use.

• jQuery - I'm getting unexpected outputs from a basic math formula.

  Hi I would like to start by saying I'd greatly appreciate anyones help on this. I have built a small caculator to calculate the amount a consumer can save annually on energy by installing a ground heat pump or solar panels. As far as I can tell the mathematical formulas are correct and my client verified this yesterday when I showed him the code. Two problems. The first is that the calculator is outputting ridiculously large numbers for the first result. The second problem is that the solar result is only working when there are no zeros in the fields. Are there some quirks as to how one would write mathematical formulas in JS or jQuery? Any help greatly appreciated. • Optimal Configuration for five 300 GB 15K SAS Drives

  I recently acquired an HP Z800 workstation that has five 300 GB 15K SAS Drives. This system will be dedicated to running multiple virtual machines under VMware Workstation (Note: I'm not using ESXi because I do plan to use the system for other purposes.). For the host OS, I plan to install RHEL 5. My number one concern is guest performance. For example, should I create a RAID 10 array for the OS and virtual machine storage with four of the drives and reserve the 5th? Or, is there a solution that will provide better performance?
