• Uninitialized constant Encoding with sqlite3-ruby on windows

  On a new machine, installed ruby with the 1-click installer for windows. Installed rails 2.3.2 and all associated gems, then I installed the sqlite3 binaries (into the c:\ruby\bin folder). Lastly I did gem install sqlite3-ruby -v=1.2.3 (which is apparently the latest version that works with windows) This error happens when I run rake db:migrate or when any ActiveRecord object is touched at runtime. • Managing database connections in an Android Activity

  I have an application with a ListActivity that uses a CursorAdapter as its adapter. The ListActivity opens the database and does the querying for the CursorAdapter, which is all well and good, but I am having issues with figuring out when to close both the Cursor and the SQLiteDatabase. The way things are handled right now, if the user finishes the activity, I close the database and the cursor. However, this still ends up with the DalvikVM warning me that I've left a database open - for example, if the user hits the "home" button (leaving the activity in the task's stack), rather than the "back" button. If I close them during pause and then re-query during resume, then I don't get any errors, but then a user cannot return to the list without it requerying (and thus losing the user's place in the list). By this I mean, the user can click on any item in the list and open a new activity based on it, but will often want to hit "back" afterwards and return to the same place on the list. If I requery, then I cannot return the user back to the correct spot. What is the proper way to handle this issue? I want the list to remain scrolled properly, but I don't want the VM to keep complaining about unclosed databases. Again, the issue is that when I hit home I get leak errors. Yet, after going home, I can go back to the app and find my list again - cursor fully intact.

• Overlay only draws line between first 2 GPS points in Android

  Hi, I am experiencing an unusual error using ItemizedOverlay in Android. I am creating a GPS tracking device that plots a route between waypoints stored in a database.   I am following the SampleSyncAdapter and upon startup, it appears that my SyncAdapter is not configured correctly. It reports an error trying to load its meta-data. How can I isolate the problem? You can see the other accounts in the system that register correctly. • Android: Filtering a SimpleCursorAdapter ListView

  Right now, I'm running into issues trying to implement a FilterQueryProvider in my custom SimpleCursorAdapter, since I'm unsure of what to do in the FilterQueryProvider's runQuery function. In other words, since the query that comprises my ListView basically gets the rowID, name, and a third column from my databases's table, I want to be able to filter the cursor based on the partial value of the name column. However, I am uncertain of whether I can do this directly from runQuery without expanding my DB class since I want to filter the existing cursor, or will I have to create a new query function in my DB class that partially searches my name column, and if so, how would I go about creating the query statement while using the CharSequence constraint argument in runQuery? I am also concerned about the performance issues associated with trying to run multiple queries based on partial text since the DB table in question has about 1300-1400 rows. In other words, would I run into a bottleneck trying to filter the cursor?

• DELETE and EDIT is not working in my python program

  This is a simple python program that ADD, DELETE, EDIT and VIEW student records. The problem is, DELETE and EDIT is not working. I dont know why but when I tried removing one '?' in the DELETE dunction, I had the error that says there are only 8 columns and it needs 10. But originally, there are only 9 columns. I don't know where it got the other one to make it 10. • What is the android_metadata table?

  I try to integrate an existing database file into my Android project. I follow the instructions on this blog. They write that I have to add a table android_metadata with a column called locale and put en_US into it. I try to figure out what this table is used for. Because my database content is german. Maybe i then should not put en_US into it? Is this required for localisation of the database content or is the table not needed at all?

  Hello, these could be my entity relations: 1 Pupil has 1 Chair 1 Pupil has N Documents 1 Pupil has N Marks 1 Pupil has N IncidentReports etc... So with that sample I get 4 IEnumerable from my database put each into an ObservableCollection. Now I have 4 different Views each bound to one of those 4 collections. Lets assume I delete a single PupilViewModel in the AdministrationController which is the only View where I can delete a PupilViewModel. Now I have to inform 3 other Controller and their ObservableCollections about the one deleted PupilViewModel to keep the whole application synchronized... thats stupid somehow. Do you have any good advice on that scenario? AND it gets even worse. If I delete a schoolclass I have to sync the pupils everywhere AND the documents or incidentreports or marks... gush... o_O

It seems that the main reason for the large file size is that the same strings tend to be repeated in thousands of rows. However if an ON CONFLICT clause is specified as part of the statement causing the trigger to fire, then conflict handling policy of the outer statement is used instead. • iPhones SDK: Setting a relationship property object using core data?

  I'm using core data in my app. I have two entities that are related: EntityA and EntityB. EntityA has a property of type "relationship" with EntityB. In addition, both of these entities are defined classes (not the default NSManagedObject). I'm inserting a new object into my data like this: EntityA *newEntityA = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"EntityA" inManagedObjectContext:self.managedObjectContext]; newEntityA.name = @"some name"; newEntityA.entityB.name = @"some other name"; The problem is entityB.name is null. Even if I add an NSLog() statement right after assigning the value, it is null. What is the proper way of setting my "name" property of EntityB when EntityB is a property of EntityA?

• Using IN with sets of tuples in SQL (SQLite3)

  I have the following table in a SQLite3 database: CREATE TABLE overlap_results ( neighbors_of_annotation varchar(20), other_annotation varchar(20), set1_size INTEGER, set2_size INTEGER, jaccard REAL, p_value REAL, bh_corrected_p_value REAL, PRIMARY KEY (neighbors_of_annotation, other_annotation) ); I would like to perform the following query: SELECT * FROM overlap_results WHERE (neighbors_of_annotation, other_annotation) IN (('16070', '8150'), ('16070', '44697')); That is, I have a couple of tuples of annotation IDs, and I'd like to fetch records for each of those tuples. The sqlite3 prompt gives me the following error: SQL error: near ",": syntax error How do I properly express this as a SQL statement?

• NullPointerException, Collections not storing data?

  Hi there, I posted this question earlier but not with the code in its entirety. The coe below also calls to other classes Background and Hydro which I have included at the bottom. I have a Nullpointerexception at the line indicate by asterisks. Which would suggest to me that the Collections are not storing data properly. Although when I check their size they seem correct. Thanks in advance. PS: If anyone would like to give me advice on how best to format my code to make it readable, it would be appreciated. • Does Android platform support SpatiaLite?

  Is it possible to use SpatiaLite database on Android platform (1.6)? I am trying to program a google buzz-like app which need to take advantage of SpatiaLite functions, like calculating distance between 2 points, etc. Any external library needed? Thanks.
