• Can a raw Lucene index be loaded by Solr?

  Some colleagues of mine have a large Java web app that uses a search system built with Lucene Java. What I'd like to do is have a nice HTTP-based API to access those existing search indexes. I've used Nutch before and really liked how simple the OpenSearch implementation made it to grab results as RSS. I've tried setting Solr's dataDir in solrconfig.xml, hoping it would happily pick up the existing index files, but it seems to just ignore them. My main question is: Can Solr be used to access Lucene indexes created elsewhere? Or might there be a better solution?

• Centering form elements with left alignment

  I would like to center the elements in my form without moving the text or buttons from being aligned on the left. So it would look like this: The bottom square is supposed to be a button. I want it centered, but the <center> tag moves the text and button so they're centered to the input box. • Looking for fast "Find in Files" program

  I currently have a directory with 98,000 individual archive transaction files. I need to search those files for user input strings and have the option to open the files as it finds them or at the end of the search. I'm using Notepad++ currently and, while functional, it's quite slow. I thought about writing my own, but I am only familiar with .NET and I'm a beginner. Also, I'm not sure how efficient that would be compared to NP++. This tool would be used again and again so the dev time would definitely be worth it if it came to that. Is there some other tool out there that's already developed that would accomplish this?

• Looking for a way to highlight specific words in textareas?

  Hi i'm looking for a way to highlight specific words in text kind of like how a text editor might work with syntax highlighting. The highlighting will consist of the text being different colours and/or different styles such as italic, bold or regular. In order to narrow focus, how this might be achieved using Java Swing components. There are most probably a number of ways of doing this but one that is efficient in dealing with multiple highlighted words and large amounts of text. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

• Search files for text matching format of a Unix directory

  I am attempting to search through all the files in a directory for text matching the pattern of any arbitrary directory. The output of this I hope to use to make a list of all directories referenced in the files (this part I think I can figure out on my own). I have looked at various regex resources and made my own expression that seems to work in the browser based tool but not with grep in the command line. /\w+[(/\w+)]+ My understanding so far is the above expression will look for the beginning / of a directory then look for an indeterminate number of characters before looking for a repeating block of the same thing. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

  I am attempting to limit the number of results that are displayed as a result of dynamic result clustering on the Google Search Appliance. I've looked through the XSLT, but I've only come across the following two user-modifiable options: <!-- *** dyanmic result cluster options *** --> <xsl:variable name="show_res_clusters">1</xsl:variable> <xsl:variable name="res_cluster_position">right</xsl:variable> Are there more options that I'm unaware of that I could use to limit the results? • Using search and replace to remove line breaks in Open Office

  Hi, I've imported a document into Open Office and it has a number of hard returns in wrong places. In MS Word, I could use the search and replace to simply get rid of them all easily, but Open Office's earch won't find them. I tried /n with the 'use regular expressions' box checked, but it seems that only looks for 'shift-enter' breaks and not ordinary hard returns. Is there another way to remove them all quickly, or do I have to go manually through the document and remove each one individually. This is a surprising oversight for Open Office.

• Windows Server 2008 R2 and OSX 10.5/.6/.7, Search, Spotlight

  I'm handling a migration from a on old mac server to a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine running a 12TB(10 usable) RAID5 server. It's using an SMB share and now the OSX 10.5/.6 users can search sometimes it works but takes up to 10 minutes. The OSX 10.7 machine seems to be fine. I've looked in the root of the shared drive for a .Spotlight-V100 file (ls -a) but it doesn't seem to be there. mdutil says indexing is on for that volume and I have cleared the index using mdutil -E /Volumes/MeSharedVolume numerous times. Any ideas?

• Problem with OWA search. Mailstore catalogues

  Dear All, I have trawled for the last few days but have not been able to come up with a solution; any help would be much appreciated. Exchange 2007 STD on Windows 2003 64Bit and users report search not working in OWA. So I first check indexing is enabled on the mail stores Get-MailboxDatabase |ft Name,IndexEnabled which all report true, So I try a test Test-ExchangeSearch [email protected] Which is a false -1 Ok, So I run the reset - resetsearchindex.ps1 this works and the event log reports the stores being crawled and finished. BUT- My complete catalogue data is 300kb - LOL! I wish! Obviously all tests fail so I do it manually; Stop indexing service, Delete catalogues. Restart Still no dice, This is where I’m up to, I have tried many different variations of the above and being through oodles of MS documentation Has anyone got any ideas?

• Winamp question: I want to search through my songs by which playlists they're sorted into

  I'm trying to think of a way to do this. I sort my songs into a variety of playlists corresponding to different 'moods' I might have, but some songs fit for more than one kind of mood (e.g. a techno song might be 'stylish' and 'surreal', or something to that effect). I also give them different star ratings for a general sort of opinion about them. I want to be able to filter my media library by moods I want or don't want, as well as by star rating. Anyone have a good way to do something like this? Alternatively, is there a way to 'tag' my songs by mood and then search up by those tags? because then I could just dump the queried results into playlists as needed. Thanks in advance.

  When attempting to import new AD users (Shared Services Administration Shared Service User Profiles and Properties) I receive an error on the top of the User Profiles and Properties page. "An error has occurred while accessing the SQL Server database or the Office SharePoint Server Search service. If this is the first time you have seen this message, try again later. If this problem persists, contact your administrator." I have tried the following: Rebooted server Checked service account permissions and passwords Checked the MIPSCHEDULEDJOB table to ensure all 6 required entries are there.

  I use gVim 7.3.46 on Win 7. It is pretty straightforward to use argdo to search args files for a pattern and replace it while suppressing errors and requiring confirmation. :argdo %s/pattern/replace/gec | update However, I would like to delete entire lines that contain the pattern. I use the following. :argdo %/pattern/d | update But I can't suppress errors or require confirmation. Is there a way to do this? Thanks! (Also, is there a way to set "more" off? Thanks!)

• Automatic driver search & update on Windows?

  I have a Dell laptop issued by my employer, and I always find it a real pain to search for, download and maintain their drivers. It baffles me that there does not seem to be a nice way (product, website, ...) to just download the stuff you need, without hassle. The same goes for the other Windows based laptops in my direct environment. Are there any (preferably free) automated solutions available? Or do you have a nice workflow - other than searching the manufacturers website - to help smoothing this process?

• How to specify or add directory to Python.h search path during setup.py build/install

  I'm running Linux, and have downloaded a python module I must install without access to any but my particular /home/user directory (I have no root privileges nor the option to pursue them). This of course requires the Python source. This I've downloaded and have laying around in said user directory. While asking the admin to copy the proper files into /usr/include/python2.7 is the easiest way to go about this, I am hoping for a more general and portable solution to this kind of problem. Changing only data in the module source (MANIFEST.in, README.txt, setup.py, etc.), how might I add an arbitrary directory to the search path for Python.h and friends? (Without a solution, "python setup.py build" will continue returning with the "Python.h: No such file or directory" error) Thank you very much. • Creating a custom view for windows log based on a "Contains {text}" rule

  I have a server running Windows Server 2008. I'm using Windows Server Auditing to check when and by which user a folder is modified to determine who is modifying it as the modifications are causing problems. I can see the log of the audit when a change is made in the System log. How do I create a Custom View that will return all events from System log where a certain text (which is the folder name) is present? The create custom view doesn't seem to have that option. I'm not sure whether it's possible via custom xml query or whether I'll need to export the system log to csv and search in Excel. John

So there must be stored, somewhere in the file description on a Mac OS X file, information on which application created this file. Note that this is not the file extension, the file can have any extension, or no extension at all. Two questions regarding this information: (1) How can I search for all files which will open a specific application? (2) How can I see, and change, the application which a certain file will open?

  Can anyone recommend a good (and ideally free) Registry Search & Replace tool? There seems to be a lot of utilities that searches the registry, but not very many that does the replacing. I've found some really old ones (from the late 90s to 2007). I was hoping for newer ones or ones still maintained. I did run across RegReplacer, but that one doesn't seem to work very well (It only found 2 instances of a string where NirSoft's RegScanner caught 449). I also found Registrar Registry Manager via this question here, but it's $44 :-\

  Well, I am perplexed. I am working with an Ubuntu server and I type in grep 'bash' *.sh BUT fgrep 'bash' *.sh works like a champ. which grep and which fgrep both point to their respective executables in /bin. I am perplexed as to what I am doing wrong. EXAMPLE output: $ grep -F 'grounding' repl.clj Usage: grep [OPTION]... PATTERN [FILE]... Search for PATTERN in each FILE or standard input. PATTERN is, by default, a basic regular expression (BRE). Example: grep -i 'hello world' menu.h main.c $ fgrep 'grounding' repl.clj (p/concepts-for-grounding-term imp1 "PERSON" "summary") See? grep is failing but fgrep is working fine. That is why I am perplexed.

• How to scrub a document of all text between brackets with find and replace

  I have a log file and I need to find all instances of <password> hash here </password> and remove the hash and replace it with some dummy text like aaa-aaa-aaa-aaaa. The recurring search argument is anything that matches a bracket that starts with <password> and ends with </password>. All the hashes being replaced will be different. What's the easiest way to go a bout this? The log is on a windows machine. Probably easiest would be to use MS word for me, unless it's achievable with wordpad, notepad, or some other light weight editor like textpad. thanks

• Linux find/search root partition ONLY?

  Say I need to do: find / -name somefile.txt and say root partition / is mounted on /dev/sda5; however, let's say I also have 250GB partitions (/dev/sda6, /dev/sda7) mounted in /media - AND another location that I cannot currently remember. Say, also, that I know the file I'm looking for is on /dev/sda5. Obviously, the above command will also descend in /media and that other directory which represent the big partitions, wasting time in looking for the file in the wrong place. Is there a way to instruct find (or other command) to search only / on /dev/sda5, and NOT to descend to directories if they are on different partitions ? Thanks, Cheers!

• Firefox Address Bar Search Returns Web Server Running?

  When I type "trends" in Firefox 25.0 address bar, it returns what looks like a web server running on my PC, although I am not running a web server. I don't have the score to post the screen shot, but specifically it says: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. Why would this display, instead of the normal behavior of the search engine? I'm using Windows 7 with the Anaconda Python distribution installed, but there is no Python interpreter fired up.

  Hi, I'm fairly new at iOS programming, but I managed to make a (in my opinion quite nice) app for the app store. The main function for my next update will be a search option for the app. I followed a tutorial I found on the internet and adapted it to fit my app. I got back quite some errors, most of which I managed to fix.   I want to get the generate-id(.) of all the text nodes after node and before node . I am looking for some generic XSL and not tightly coupled to the sample input pattern mentioned below. For any input pattern i want to get the ids of all the text nodes between node and . Sample input for better understanding: <a> <b> <c> This is first text node </c> </b> <d> <e> This is my second text node </e> <f> This is my <m/>third text node </f> <g> One more text node </g> <h> <i> This is my fourth text node </i> </h> <j> This is my fifth <n/>text node </j> <k> <l> This is my sixth text node </l> </k> </d> </a> Expected output: Generate id of the text nodes with values "third text node ", "One more text node", "This is my fourth text node", "This is my fifth" which lie inbetween nodes <m/> and <n/> Please give your ideas.
