And that's what I'd like to get! Could anybody help me on this?

Getting a "for each" loop in Java to run in different order everytime

Hi, Basically my problem is that I'm trying to write a method that finds a random path in a graph of strings, which takes as it's parameters a start string, an integer length and a Vector of strings that will store the path. I'm attempting to do this by first adding the starting string to our blank vector, recursing through its neighbors until the vector's length (not including the start node) is the same as the integer length specified in the parameters. I've provided my code so far here: public Vector<String> findRandomPathFrom(String n, int len, Vector<String> randomPath){ randomPath.add(n); if (randomPath.size() == len + 1) return randomPath; for (String m : this.neighbours(n)){ if (!randomPath.contains(m) && findRandomPathFrom(m, len, randomPath) != null) return randomPath; } path.setSize(path.size() - 1); return null; } It seems to be working fine, returning a path with exactly the number of strings specified after the given start string. However, for any given starting string it generates the EXACT same path everytime, which kind of defeats the purpose of it being a random path generator. I'm guessing this problem is related to my "for each" loop, which loops through all the neighbouring strings of your current string. It seems to just be going with the first string in the neighbours vector every single time. Can anyone help me fix this problem so that it will choose a random neighbour instead of going in order? tl;dr - Any way of getting a "for each" loop in java to process a collection in a random order as oppoosed to start-to-finsih? Django: returning a selection of fields from a model based on their values?

I am working with some data over which I have little control. I'd like to return ONLY the fields of my model that aren't certain 'uninteresting' values (e.g. '0', 'X' or '-'), and access them individually in the template. My model is like this: class Manors(models.Model): structidx = models.IntegerField(primary_key=True, verbose_name="ID") hills = models.CharField(max_length=100, null=True, blank=True, verbose_name="Number of fields") In my template, I return a QuerySet of Manors, and I'd like to output something like this if the hills field isn't uninteresting: {% for manor in manors %} {% if manor.hills %}<li>Hills blah blah: {{ manor.hills }}</li>{% endif %} {% endfor %} I want to avoid too much logic in the template. Ideally, the manor object would simply not return with the uninteresting fields attached, then I could just do {% if manor.hills %}. I tried writing a model method that returns a dictionary of the interesting values, like this: def get_field_dictionary(self): interesting_fields = {} for field in Manors._meta.fields: if field.value_to_string(self) != "N" and field.value_to_string(self) != "0" and field.value_to_string(self) != "-" and field.value_to_string(self) != "X": interesting_fields[field.name] = field.value_to_string(self) return interesting_fields But I don't know how to access individual values of the dictionary in the template: {% if manor.get_field_dictionary['hills'] %}<li>Hills blah blah: {{ manor.get_field_dictionary['hills'] }}</li>{% endif %} gives a TemplateSyntaxError. Is app stability unusually hard with Java?

Java's extensive libraries and tool support are appealing, but I've never tried developing with it because most Java applications I've used have been extremely buggy. This has me puzzled, because I hear that Java is the dominant platform for enterprise development. Maybe it's fine for server-side stuff but not desktop applications. I'm not talking about things like the long compile/startup times or the random latencies due to garbage collection. This is about things just going wrong. Some of the most common problems I see are: corrupted icons corrupted fonts, in menus usually and editing areas sometimes inaccurate framing of GUI elements dialogs sometimes popping up blank Maybe the problems are mostly with Swing. I've rarely used a Java application long enough to find deeper issues. I can think of a few possible explanations for what I've experienced: It's possible to write stable apps with Java, just harder. Java apps are always buggy and enterprise users just put up with it. Server-side apps are fine because just Swing is buggy. I'm living under a curse and need the services of a good witchdoctor.

How to make last div stretch to fill screen?

I have a site I'm trying to build and I've hit one little snag thats driving me insane. Essentially on pages without enough content to fill the viewport, I want to have the last div (my footer, fill the rest of the viewport, but it's currently being cut off. My html looks like this: <body> <div id="header"> </div> <div id="subNav"> </div> <div id="content"> </div> <div id="footer"> </div> </body> I tried using html, body, footer { height:100%; } but that creates much more space then needed, essentially a full screen length of blank content in the footer. How do I get my footer just to fill teh rest of the screen without adding a scroll bar? Thanks in advance, One Frustrated Coder.

Xcode 4: nib files not loading when run, can't find UI elements

So, I just downloaded Xcode 4 and installed it. I was actually quite looking forward to the single window and integrated IB... - However, when I open and run one of my projects, the nib files that the project uses don't seem to load. Instead I'm left looking at a blank white screen (iPhone). This project ran well and fine on Xcode 3.2. So I thought... this can't be that hard to fix. So I opened up a nib file, thinking that maybe editing or creating a new one from scratch could point me in the right direction. But I can't find the old resources panel from interface builder anywhere. How am I meant to create a new view or add buttons? I know I'm probably just missing something obvious :s Did anyone else have the same nib file problems - is there a fix (or something stupidly simple that I'm forgetting about)? - EDIT: Ok. If I background and un-background the app, the view loads fine. But this happens every time I build, on both iPhone and iOS simulator, i.e. the app doesn't work properly until it's been backgrounded. All the code for loading the view follows from - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application. Now I am really confused. - Thanks :)

We need to switch users without logging off so we can remotely administrate a PC running with a limited user that will disconnect from the VPN if the user logs off. Because we block CTRL-ALT-DEL the PC effectively hangs until it is powered off. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening so we can change users without the PC hanging when they log off?

ViewController behaving oddly when pushed on the window

I am using multiple controller during launch of an application in app delegate. One controller is for registration and the second controller is tabbar. tabbar was loading fine but when I pushed registration controller on window, contents went up by 20 units and I have good white blank screen at bottom. Therefore I recreated frame of my registration view controller in its viewdidload method and slided it 20 units down. Should nested attributes be automatically deleted when I delete the parent record?

I'm playing around with nested forms in attributes and have a model Invoice that has_many invoice_phone_numbers. I have the following line in my invoice.rb model file accepts_nested_attributes_for :invoice_phone_numbers, :allow_destroy => true, :reject_if => proc { |attrs| attrs.all? { |k, v| v.blank? } } This does what it should and I can delete invoice_phone_numbers from the form by selecting their 'delete' checkbox. But when I delete an Invoice, I have noticed that the nested invoice_phone_numbers are not also deleted. This causes problems as rails seems to reuse id numbers in the Invoice model (Should it? Does this depend on the database? I'm using SQLite3) so phone numbers from previous invoices turn up in new invoices after they have been created. Anyway, my question is should the nested attributes be deleted when I delete the parent attribute? Is there a way to make this happen automatically as part of the nesting process or do I need to deal with this in my invoice model? If so, what is the best way to do this? I would try to go about this with a before_destroy callback but want to know if this is the best way to do this. Anyway, thanks.

Reading XML or objects from a Web service

This is my first time working with webservices and I am a bit lost. I successfully called the functions, but I only can get one value from the service. I read that the easiest way is to read xml or create objects and then call their values. Currently I use functions that return the desired value but I need to call them 3 times to get all the data witch is a waste of time and resources. I tried to call the service with the URL and use it as a website or getting the service to work the same way without importing into the program. The thing is that i cant find a way to pass the values into the url, because of that i get only blank pages. What is the fastest way to get my data from the services? I need city name, temperature and a flag if the city is valid. I need to pass the zip code to the service. Thank you. Post parameters to a frame of new window

I have to modify an existing web search page. There is a page, where all the search filters are (form with name "searchform"). When the search button is pressed, results are shown in new window. Because the search takes up to 30 seconds, and while searching the window stays blank, I have to add a label "Searching. Please wait..." at the new created window with the results. So the search window is created, and I set it's location to a frameset. First frame will show the label, and the second will show the results. But i can't manage to update the second frame with the results. Can you dynamically combine multiple conditional functions into one in Python?

I'm curious if it's possible to take several conditional functions and create one function that checks them all (e.g. the way a generator takes a procedure for iterating through a series and creates an iterator). The basic usage case would be when you have a large number of conditional parameters (e.g. "max_a", "min_a", "max_b", "min_b", etc.), many of which could be blank. They would all be passed to this "function creating" function, which would then return one function that checked them all. Below is an example of a naive way of doing what I'm asking: def combining_function(max_a, min_a, max_b, min_b, ...): f_array = [] if max_a is not None: f_array.append( lambda x: x.a < max_a ) if min_a is not None: f_array.append( lambda x: x.a > min_a ) ... return lambda x: all( [ f(x) for f in f_array ] ) What I'm wondering is what is the most efficient to achieve what's being done above? It seems like executing a function call for every function in f_array would create a decent amount of overhead, but perhaps I'm engaging in premature/unnecessary optimization. Regardless, I'd be interested to see if anyone else has come across usage cases like this and how they proceeded. Also, if this isn't possible in Python, is it possible in other (perhaps more functional) languages?

UINavigationController from scratch?

I have a view based app that works well. (In other words, I'm not going to start over with a Navigation-Based App template.) It's an immersive app of sorts and I'm trying to add a Table View that loads in a new view when a button is pressed. The loading the nib part works, but I can't seem to be able to add a navigation controller to the new view. I want to see a navigation bar on top with a done button and an edit button. Also, I want to the Table View entries to be empty. I added a new file like so: File-> New File -> UINavigationController subclass. I checked the UITableViewController Subclass and With XIB for user interface. All I see when the view is pulled up is a blank Table View. I am able to customize things in the view controller. What can I do to make the table show a navigation bar and be editable? I need some direction here please. EDIT: I'm working with the latest Public SDK. (XCode 3.2.2)

I use Ruby on Rails 3 and I have 2 applications (APP1 and APP2) working on two subdomains: app1.domain.local app2.domain.local and I am tryng to run two consecutive HTTP GET requests from APP1 to APP2 like this: Code in APP1 (request): response1 = Net::HTTP.get( URI.parse("http://app2.domain.local?test=first&id=1") ) response2 = Net::HTTP.get( URI.parse("http://app2.domain.local/test=second&id=1") ) Code in APP2 (response): respond_to do |format| if <model_name>.find(params[:id]).<field_name> == "first" <model_name>.find(params[:id]).update_attribute ( <field_name>, <field_value> ) format.xml { render :xml => <model_name>.find(params[:id]).<field_name> } elsif <model_name>.find(params[:id]).<field_name> == "second" format.xml { render :xml => <model_name>.find(params[:id]).<field_name> } end end After the first request I get the correct XML (response1 is what I expect), but on the second it isn't (response2 isn't what I expect). Doing some tests I found that the second time that <model_name>.find(params[:id]).<field_name> run (for the elsif statements) it returns always a blank value so that the code in the elseif statement is never run. Is it possible that the problem is related on caching <model_name>.find(params[:id]).<field_name>? P.S.: I read about eTag and Conditional GET, but I am not sure that I must use that approach. I would like to keep all simple.

How to have a user control as a ListBoxItem

I want to bind a user control (View) to a ListBoxItem. The ListBox is bound to a collection of ViewModels. I have set the ListBox's ItemTemplate as so: <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <View:ContactView/> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> But all I get are blank ListBoxItems. I can click on them, but nothing is showing visually. Setting Image.Source doesn't update when loading from a resource.

I've got this definition in my XAML: <Image Name="AlbumArt" Source="/AlbumChooser2;component/Resources/help.png" /> The image is display OK on startup. In my code I'm looking for mp3's to play and I display the associated album art in this Image. Now if there's no associated image I want to display a "no image" image. So I've got one defined and I load it using: BitmapImage noImage = new BitmapImage( new Uri("/AlbumChooser2;component/Resources/no_image.png", UriKind.Relative)); I've got a helper class that finds the image if there is one (returning it as a BitmapImage), or returns null if there isn't one: if (findImage.Image != null) { this.AlbumArt.Source = findImage.Image; // This works } else { this.AlbumArt.Source = noImage; // This doesn't work } In the case where an image is found the source is updated and the album art gets displayed. In the case where an image isn't found I don't get anything displayed - just a blank. I don't think that it's the setting of AlbumArt.Source that's wrong, but the loading of the BitmapImage. If I use a different image it works, but if I recreate the image it doesn't work. What could be wrong with the image?

Waiting for data via select not working

I'm currently working on a project which involves multiple clients connected to a server and waiting for data. I'm using select and monitoring the connection for incoming data. However, the client just continues to print nothing, acting as if select has discovered incoming data. Perhaps I'm attacking this wrong? For the first piece of data the server does send, it is displayed correctly. However, the server then disconnects and the client continues to spew blank lines. If I have the following xml, how would I use linq to xml blank out the date fields in each video node? jQuery UI Dialog Issue With IE

I am using the new jQuery 1.3.2 and jQuery-ui-1.7 libraries along with the UI Dialog. I have a div tag with several form elements (textbox, checkbox, etc.) in it. Upon page load, jQuery shows the div as a dialog. This works absolutely fine in FF, but in IE, the height of the div is wrong. It is just showing the title bar a bit of the content. I explicitly set the height when creating the div. If I set the height option after opening the dialog, the height is corrected, but the content is blank (shows the top third of a textbox). If I allow the dialog to be resizable, if you resize it in IE it works fine, but I don't want to force IE users to resize just to see the contents. Any ideas?
