  • Web Based Windows Explorer for Linux System

    Does anyone know of a program/script that runs on Linux that can give us a nice GUI for browsing and managing shared system folders similar in the way that windows explorer would work? So would allow, upload, download, file modification etc. It's a way to still have access to all our files stored on the system from any location with internet access. Thanks in advance

  • Clipboard bug in Wordpad in Windows 7 (accidentally pasting large file into application)

    In Win7, I use Wordpad, and I really like it. For my needs it's lean and fast, yet has the formatting functionalities I'm after when working on my TXT/RTF files on a daily basis. I don't intend to change text editors. There's a really bad bug which has ALWAYS plagued me. If you have a large file contained in the clipboard, like a 238MB FLAC file, and you accidentally paste it into Wordpad for whatever reason - it hangs the application for a VERY long time (like 2 hours, it depends on how big the file is, because it tries to 'handle' it). You either have to close the application and lose any unsaved changes, or go do something else until the item has finished pasting into Wordpad (it actually eventually drops the file's icon in wordpad just like how it appears in Windows Explorer). It's a Windows bug, a Wordpad bug. Is there some solution for this? Or is the problem fixed in Windows 8 (if anyone can tell me)? .....I'm not going to try out Win8 myself, merely to answer this question - that's what I'm asking it on SuperUSer for! I'm really hoping it's one of those little-yet-big things that they've fixed in Win8 (like removing the 255-character file path limit in Explorer, which is awesome). Thank you for your help, if you have Win8 handy and can test this. :)

  • Run Windows batch file on schedule as non-Administrator user

    I'm running Windows XP x64 SP2. I have a Windows batch file that with some Robocopy commands that I want to run on schedule. I created a scheduled task for it, running as a dedicated user (not the user I'm logged on as), but it simply did not run. I could see successful logon events in the security log, so it got that far, but the commands in the batch file definitely weren't getting executed. After reading through all of http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservermanager/thread/d47d116e-10b9-44f0-9a30-7406c86c2fbe/ I tried making the target user account an Administrator and that fixed it - the batch file ran just fine. Nothing else seemed to work. The thing is, I want it to run under a low-privileged account. Does anyone know how can I get a batch file to run on schedule as a non-Administrator?

  • what can cause a folder to become indestructible?

    I have a directory that I want to delete, but windows (xp sp3) is giving me the run-around and the folder is now effectively indestructible. Attempts to open the folder, either via explorer or cmd.exe are met with 'd:/temp/foo Is Not Accessible. Access is denied'. Attempts to delete the folder result in 'Cannot delete foo: The directory is not empty' So I can't delete it because supposedly it's not empty, but windows won't let me in it for some reason, so I can't clean it out first. There's nothing in it of consequence, and basically I just want to delete it at this point. Thinking that some other process must have a lock on it, I used the SysInternals 'handles' and Process Explorer to look for open handles with the directory name. These turned up no matches. (The directory name is not actually 'foo', it is something more unique but 'foo' is easier to type here). I put the machine through a restart, and the problem persists. I did a search for the folder name with regedit, to see what other apps might be aware of it. No match. The properties dialog was mildly interesting. The Read-Only attribute is 'semi-checked', i.e., the grayish check mark you get when some parts are and some parts aren't. Naturally I immediately unchecked this, and tried to delete the folder. No go. Opening properties again reveals the gray check mark next to Read-Only has returned. All the stats, size, size on disk, files, folders, all these are zero. There do not appear to be any shares on the folder, so that's not it either. Finally, I tried opening the partition's properties, and running the Tools/Error Checking utility. This didn't turn up any problems either. Fwiw, this directory was created by [a popular gui zip tool] when I tried to unpack a tar-and-zipped archive created on another system with command line utils. The archive was definitely corrupt, but I've never seen such a file do anything worse than crash the zip app, and certainly never leave permanent glitches in the file system. So what else can possibly be going on to make this folder behave this way?

    I want to delete all files that start with ._, when I run this command: me@me:/var/www/my/project$ sudo rm -Rvi ._* rm: cannot remove `._*': No such file or directory I'm pretty sure the . is causing problems, making it think I mean the current directory, what's the correct syntax to achieve this?   • How can I fix a broken AVI file?

    I have a broken AVI, it won't play in VLC, Xine or MPlayer. I tried Handbrake (reads the file and resets the source to None), OggConvert, Avidemux and mencoder fail to read the file, I cannot seem to reencode this file. I suspect the header info is corrupt, is there a way to get the a/v streams out with a missing header?

  • IIS/SMTP - unable to move emails from inetpub/mailroot/Queue due to file lock

    I have a listener that processes emails in the inetpub/mailroot/Queue directory. Once the listener is done processing an email it proceeds to move the email to another directory. However, moving the email is not possible due to a file lock by the process inetinfo.exe. I have noticed that this file lock is released after a period time that ranges from several hours to several days. You can see that the Queue directory can get pretty full over time. The only way I have been able to work around this is by manually stopping and starting my SMTP virtual server in IIS. Is it possible to release this file lock programmatically? If not, is it possible to expedite releasing this file lock?

Sometimes the mysqldump process gets killed, which leaves an incomplete sql file that still gets zipped. How do I get my script to 'notice' the killing and then delete the output file if the killing occurred?

  • Writing an upstart file which allows the user to input username and password

    I'm trying to write an upstart file for OpenConnect. The task is pretty simple, but I'm stuck because I don't want to provide the username and password in a config file, but prompt the user to provide them each time. The upstart file, placed in /etc/init/openconnect.conf is exec /usr/sbin/openconnect --script=/etc/vpnc/vpnc-script my-gw.example.com However, when I execute start openconnect the process is backgrounded immediately and I get no chance to provide input. How can I make this upstart job ask the user for input?

    Current I have an .htaccess file like this. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(always|rewrite|these|dirs)/ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ router.php [L,QSA] It works create when the site files are in the document_root of the webserver (ie. domain.com/abc.php - /abc.php). But in our current setup (which isn't changeable), this isn't ensured. We can sometimes have arbitrary folder in between the document root and folder of the .htaccess file (ie. domain.com/something/abc.php - /something/abc.php). The only problem with is that is the second RewriteCond no longer works. Is there anyway to dynamically check if the accessed path by a path relative to .htaccess file. For Example: If I have a site where domain.com/rewrite/ is the directory of the .htaccess file. NOT FORCED TO REWRITE -> domain.com/rewrite/index.php FORCED TO REWRITE -> domain.com/rewrite/rewrite/index.php If I have a site where domain.com/ is the directory of the .htaccess file. NOT FORCED TO REWRITE -> domain.com/index.php FORCED TO REWRITE -> domain.com/rewrite/index.php

  • SMB returns the entire file instead of header info

    Starting a section of code checks for access to many data files (flat files so each table is a file) and when I do a packet capture, in our capture only the header info is sent by the server to the client. However I have one Customer who is using a SAN that gets the whole file instead of just the header info,and besides just being slower, this is causing file access issues. They have already turned off OPLOCKS at the server and at the workstations. This is not client server. The data files and the application reside on the server but the users run the application locally via a shortcut with a mapped drive or UNC. So when I simply select an option that prompts for a vehicle number, not tryng to select a record but rather simply verify the datafiles are accessible, that window opens in 1-2 seconds for me. When they do the same thing it takes 6-15 seconds after there several users are running the program. Maximum number of users is 15. The program has a lot of small modules, 800 .cob modules. So it is very chatty but these are datafiles. We have Wireshark captures that show he's pulling the whole file and we're just getting the header. Thier capture vs ours. We suspect the SAN. Has anyone ever heard of a SAN improperly interpreting runtime requests? So an SMB request. This is Acucobol-GT (now Microfocus). The application is written in COBOL. This is not a new program just a new problem. This is one customer of over a thousand who are otherwise running smoothly and we are totally stumped. All XP users, the server is Windows 2003 (with Virtual server) and I don't yet know the SAN info. Also we have many installations running virtual servers but only few on SANs or we just don't know it. This is not a network throught put issue, the load is less than 5% on the server and theer are no timeout or retransmits. PS If it wasn't for Wireshark I'd still be chasing my tail. An application trace file on thier installation just looks like they run slower. If you want the Wireshark trace file I can make it available. Does it mean: A. Leave the current file-system (whatever file-system is already in use) and reformat to match that. (ie. If you current have NTFS, reformat to that again. If you currently have FAT32, reformat to that again. That is: Reformat without changing to a different file-system. Leave the current type.) or... B. Do absolutely nothing. Don't format. Don't delete any of my files. Abort the formatting process entirely.

I know that sample can contain bits from 8 , 16, 24 to 32 bits per sample. i want to get 8 bits per sample file how can this be done ?

  • Apache error "child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25)"

    Morning all, Apache on our internal development server stopped working last night. It's running, but all we get is a blank screen, no server errors. Examing the error log shows the following, [Fri Apr 23 09:13:57 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:03 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) [Fri Apr 23 09:14:06 2010] [notice] child pid XXXX exit signal exceeded file size limit (25) After some Googling, we found that this is due to Apache trying to handle a file greater than it's maximum allowed limit, which by default is 2GB and is usually an error log. I did a search using find . -size +1000000k -ls (find all files greater than 1GB) in our log and web folders, but nothing showed up. I've also restarted Apache and rebooted the server itself serveral times. I've completely wiped the log folder and started a fresh. Nothing is working. Any ideas as to what else might be causing this? Thank you

Then PHP 5.3.3 (VC9 x86 Thread Safe) zip file was downloaded and extracted on “C:\php” location. From “C:\php” I renamed the “php.ini-development” file into “php.ini” “php.ini” file was opened with notepad, and modified as: doc_root = "C:\Apache2.2\htdocs" extension_dir = "C:\php\ext" The following lines were added to the Apache's configuration file “httpd.conf”: LoadModule php5_module "C:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" AddType application/x-httpd-php .php PHPIniDir "C:/php" N.B.: Thanks all for comments and answer, but I can't reply none your comments, I don't know why. May be I'm not privileged to put any comment as I'm new here (is it the case?)! That's why I'm to edit my post to reply you all.   • forcing itunes tags to the file itself

    How do I make itunes save tagging information to the file itself? I tagged a file and then loaded it into a different itunes library on a different computer via a NFS share. The tagging info wasn't present which leads me to believe the tagging info is only stored in the itunes DB. Update I'm specifically concerned about movies files, so if you RClick - Get info Options - Media Kind (Movies/TV/etc) Video - Show/Episode/Season These tags don't seem to be saved to the file itself, this is lame.
