• Jersey 1.8 - Another GlassFish 3.1.1 component is ready

  We now have a new release of the JAX-RS 1.1 reference implementation - Jersey 1.8 is just out! Thisbug-fix release follows the EclipseLink 2.3 release from last week (as part of the Eclipse Indigo train release) and other components such as Woodstox 4.1.1 and Weld 1.1.1 which have already been released and integrated. To get started with Jersey 1.8, begin here and don't forget to visit the Jersey Wiki pages. You can also grab a nightly build of GlassFish 3.1.1 or wait for the next promoted build (#10) due out in a few days. As it currently stands for GlassFish 3.1.1, we have integration of the final bits for Metro 2.1.1 (currently at 2.1.1b7), Mojarra 2.1.3 (currently at 2.1.3b1), and MQ 4.5.1 (currently at 4.5.1b3) still ahead of us.

• Elantech trackpad being identified as a logitech wheel mouse.

  I recently purchased a Samsung RF510 laptop computer, which I absolutely love. However, upon installing Ubuntu 10.10 onto it I couldn't get the trackpad to function properly. It worked as a basic mouse (point and click) but had no functionality for edge scrolling or any of the multitouch settings the trackpad is capable of. After doing a lot of research I discovered the reason is a known issue where the Ubuntu kernel will improperly detect an Elantech trackpad as a logitech PS/2 wheel mouse, and as such will gain none of the functionality that seems to be coded for synaptics trackpads. The question I have is: does anyone know a way to get this working properly? This is my first time trying to run Ubuntu on a laptop (actually, it's my first laptop in the last 12 years) and I'm finding the experience to be intolerable without the basic scrolling/zooming/etc I've been used to using for as long as I can remember.

  At this moment, ever since I installed Ubuntu on this machine, the battery status says: not present. Looking at this answer, however, I find that /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info (sometimes its /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info, use tab complete to help) has the following info: present: yes design capacity: 4400 mAh last full capacity: 4400 mAh battery technology: rechargeable design voltage: 11100 mV design capacity warning: 300 mAh design capacity low: 132 mAh cycle count: 0 capacity granularity 1: 32 mAh capacity granularity 2: 32 mAh model number: BAT1 serial number: 11 battery type: 11 OEM info: 11 In accordance to this answer, I've checked the /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state file: present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: charged present rate: unknown remaining capacity: unknown present voltage: 10000 mV The acpi -b command returns: Battery 0: Unknown, 0%, rate information unavailable Any suggestions on getting the battery info updated?

• What are the advantages and disadventages of git or bzr + rsync vs rdiff-backup?

  I used to use rsync to do backups, but then I switched to rdiff-backup to incremental backups. Recently, I discovered git and bzr while working on a coding project. So, I was thinking, I could have my backup disk be a repository in either git or bzr. Then I could rsync to the repository, and commit the changes. Would there be any performance concerns with this? Any other issues that I'm not thinking of? The benefit I see in using rsync is that you can restart an interrupted transfer, while rdiff-backup reverts to the last version, and then starts again. Any reason not to do it this way? Anything I'm not thinking of?

• Ubuntu 12.04 boot freezes

  I installed win7 on one of my machines. It works without any problem. Now I can not install Ubuntu 12.04 (11.10, 11.04) because the installation process stops in a very early stage: I can see that ISOLinux was loaded, then I can see some very simple icons, then I can see text messages of the kernel. The last message I can see: [6.177983] sr 5:0:0:0: attached scsi general ss1 type 5 At that point the system stops. I tried different versions (11.04) , I disabled, and then disconnected the hdd, but the same problem occured independently from my actions. I can boot a gparted live cd, but that system can not see my hdd. On the other hand, I can boot the installation cd of the latest stable Debian distribution without any problem, but I would prefer to use Ubuntu, because I use that distribution on all of our machines.s Configuration: Asus P8H61-MLE motheboard, Gigabyte GTS 450, Intel i5, 4gb ram, wd 1T sata hdd Any idea? • Regular wireless dropouts on new lenovo T440s in Ubuntu 14.04

  Over the last 24 hours my wireless has dropped out regularly. I've tested to make sure it isn't my router (my phone and everyone in the house isn't having problems using the wifi). This is a brand-new installation of Ubuntu 14.04 and according to uname I'm running kernel 3.13.0-24-generic. Now, my laptop has an Intel 7260AC dual band wireless card and I've read that Ubuntu has been having trouble with these. I notice that at http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-034398.htm There are some updated drivers for my kernel version. However I have no idea how to update the kernel to use these drivers instead so that I can see if this will fix it. Can anyone help? These dropouts are really annoying. EDIT: Upgrading to 3.14.6 did not help.

  It's a bit subjective but helpful and on-topic IMO, mayebe should be made community wiki I've been in contact with some guest bloggers lately which are interested in publishing posts on my website's blog, so far I've done a regular weekly blog and had a guy marketing it, but he's too busy to do more work right now. Now I need someone to market these blog posts on social media, the last guy I just got by recommendation from a friend, but now I need to find one myself. What criteria should I check when it comes to social media marketers? Do the number of followers and fans on their accounts and/or the number of votes they get for articles they market mean anything, or is impossible to know if it's spam?   I first gonna explain the situation: I have a Laptop which is connected to a wifi connection, and a Desktop which can not be connected to Internet (the modem is too far from it), and i want to install some software on the last one. (The two PCs are running Ubuntu 12.04, and are connected with an Ethernet cable) I've already searched for a solution, but all I've found was the use of some softwares that should have been already installed on the "Internet-less PC". ( Keryx, APTonCD ... ) What I want to do is to create a mirror in my laptop which contain the packages i have in this one ( situated in /var/cache/apt/archive ) and i don't want to download all the packages from the official repository, I actually don't need them. • Ubuntu 12.04 - after update it boots in command line only (no windows manager)

  I have Ubuntu 12.04, which has been working great for me since I installed it a year ago. Yesterday I ran the updates that update manager recommended. (Last time I ran updates before was about a week ago). After the updates were installed, it asked me to reboot. So I rebooted it, and then it stopped at login prompt (as a command line, with no windows). I logged in and tried to manually start the windows manager, and the screen went blank, and stayed blank I waited several minutes, and then turned it off. How can I figure out what is the problem? Which logs should I check?

• Linux Mint Cinamon 17 Qiana, Xfce desktop background problem [on hold]

  I've installed Xfce4 on my laptop which runs Linux Mint 17 with Cinamon default desktop. Everything works OK and I customized my lightweight Xfce, like change menu location and desktop background that it is similar to my Cinamon desktop and used it for a while. Suddenly after last restart my desktop background becomes black and there is no option for desktop background change when I right click on desktop. I should mention that xfdesktop & didn't help, which tells it's already running. Some icons like Computer, Home and Oracle VM that was already there is showing, but my Trash or other icons did not. I've tried everywhere in xfce4-settings-manager but could not get my desktop background back

• Where's the source code?

• My blog which gets 300+ daily impressions has stopped appearing on the 1st page of Google

  I have a blog regarding Placement papers from December 2010. My monthly impressions are around 4000. For the last 2 days, my blog has disappeared from Google search engine result pages. Impressions have reduced drastically. Please check Stat reports: My blog is still on the search engine because when I search site: mydomain.com on Google, I can see my all pages indexed over there… But my pages which used to appear on the first or second pages of Google do not appear any more. Example: If I search with query GE round 2 code writing test on bing.com or Yahoo search, the first link on the result page is my blog. But if you do same on Google, my URLs do not appear even on the 1st 3 result pages. I used to get lots of visitors by these search query earlier.

• First time using Ubuntu, need help with drivers!

  I have just successfully built my first computer last night. I went through the boot menu and got Ubuntu 12.10 installed properly and everything. My question is...now what? There has to be some sort of drivers I need to install right? I can't connect to wi-fi or anything of that sort. I have an ASUS motherboard, model number M4N98TD EVO , and an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 650 grpahics card. I guess my main question is, can someone run me through step by step what I need to do after I install Ubuntu?

• I've had Tomboy twice delete a single important note. What's going on there?

  Not sure what's going on here, but here's the best I can describe: I use Tomboy extensively, for notes, collecting throw-away passwords,etc. Once a couple of months ago, a very important note just disappeared. No reference to the title, no deleting, no way of tracking it down---it was just like it had never existed. The same thing just happened today. I think the note in question was actually open when I rebooted, so maybe that's related. Has anyone else encountered something similar? EDIT: Happened 3 times Seems to be the last note I have open when shutting down (which is usually the most important) is deleted without a trace.

Make it so damned difficult to cancel your windows phone dev account subscription, that you will just give up trying and pay as the easy route out.Very sad that it has come to this. Usually I would not approach an open forum such as my site for such issues, but the sad state of their affairs leaves me with no choice. Here is the issue, last year, I opened a WPDev account, for which you have to pay. Seeing that its been a year, I haven’t submitted anything, I didn’t want to renew my account and pay the fee. I guess if I ever write a WP app, I will reopen the subscription. Sounds about right huh? fair? So, what would you expect? Login to your account, find the subscription, hit cancel!   Hi, I'm not a software expert but need to outsource a web-based scientific GUI application, and I'm considering Adobe Flex. My math routines are currently in Javascript and C/C+. Having no experience with Flex, was hoping someone could help me understand what options are available for performing (preferably fast and efficient) CLIENT-side calculations. That is, can Flex interact with Javascript and/or C easily? If not, is actionscript or other language preferred? Downsides/tradeoffs? Need functions like LOG10, LN, SQRT, and would be nice to also have the error function (ERF) and complementary error function (ERFC), although I may be able to derive these last two from more basic functions if necessary. • Why does 12.04 freeze when using multiple desktops?

  I am using 12.04 32-bit, upgraded from 11.10. Within the last week and a half Unity has hung on me with no option but a hard reboot, which I hate. It usually happens when I am using multiple desktops and applications and switching desktops. The screen just hangs, sometimes broken between desktops and applications, I can move my mouse but cannot click on anything. alt+f2 , HUD , super+w/s/d and alt+tab/~ does nothing, they do not activate. I let it rest for 15-20 minutes in hopes it will sort itself out but nothing. I'd hate to move to Unity 2D, but I can't risk having to do hard reboots/shutdowns, or moving to a different DE. Other information: the only PPA's I have added recently would be the word lens. 2.8GB RAM processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 15 model : 127 model name : AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1250 stepping : 2 microcode : 0x83 cpu MHz : 1000.000
