  • What is error 324? Is it related to Google Chrome? Or Verizon Webmail?

    My in-laws are having trouble with signing into their Verizon Webmail account at webmail.verizon.net, only when they are on their wireless network. When they try to log in from wireless they get "Error 324" in the browser, in both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 8. But they can access any other site, and they can get on their Verizon email when they plug in directly to the browser. Why is this?

  • Installing Windows 7 on a netbook using SanDisk USB Cruzer

    I have this weird problem with my SanDisk USB Cruzer maybe someone can help me... I removed U3 software I used diskpart.exe to "activate" my partition yet when I restart my computer and select to boot off of USB it won't boot, my computer freezes and nothing is happening after that. any ideas what am I doing wrong?

    I get a lot of emails reporting this and I want this issue to auto correct itself. These process are run by my server and are a result of updates, session deletion and other legitimate session handling reported as false positives.   • SSH tunneling hangs with many connections

    I am forced to use SSH tunneling to access many servers (over 100) via one gateway server. To keep connection alive I am using autossh. Everything works pretty well until there is high traffic (people are connecting to most of the servers at once). then ssh process reaches 12% of cpu (which is configured maximum for separate process) and no connection is working anymore - i have to restart autossh script. What could be the possible reason for that?

  • System Reserved partition no longer marked as System

    I recently posted a question to Super User about accidentally marking my external HDD's partition as Active and how I could undo my accidental mistake. I followed the instructions provided and they worked fine. This involved some command line magic and from what I understand, I did not have to really do this, but I just wanted to get things back to how they were originally. After making the fix things went back to normal in disk management. After I restarted my computer though i had an issue: BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Rugh roh! I brought my laptop to work so I could search for a solution on my work computer and I found a nice guide on fixing the issue. To summarize the instructions, I had to reboot with my Windows 7 install disc and click the Repair button. Once there I could then repair the start-up options. One of the commenters on the site claimed you need to do this twice, as the first time the "repair" doesn't actually fix it. I found this to be true as well. I tried to repair it and it did some work, then rebooted. I then got the same error again. I booted from the CD again and repaired the start-up options then after this second time Windows started to boot up. Before the restart I got a nice info window telling me that it did make repairs to the boot info (this was promising). I've been using Windows 7 for a few days now with no problem, but I just recently noticed that I now can see the System Reserved partition in Computer: (click for full size) I immediately went to disk management to see what was up. I noticed that my System Reserved partition is no longer marked as System and instead I believe the repair operation made my C: drive the system partition. I'm not fully aware of what the System partition really is but I briefly read that its a Windows 7 thing that gets created on install of Win7 that writes some BitLocker encryption stuff to a isolated partition as well as some boot files. (click for full size) How can I undo this and make the System Partition marked as System instead of my OS C: partition? How can I make it so that I don't see this partition in Computer (I believe fixing #1 will fix this) What are the implications of what the current state is and the fact that I can now browse into this new partition?   • Grub problem with dual boot Ubuntu & XP (Ubuntu installed first)

    I had Ubuntu installed and I installed XP. I tried to be able to dual boot them by running an Ubuntu live cd and running ~ $ sudo grub grub> root (hd0,0) grub> setup (hd0) But now when I restart I get a black screen that says 'Boot device Selected Boot Device and press any key No matter what key I press it shows this error This is what my system looks like: /dev/sda1 - Ubuntu - ext3 - 73 GiB /dev/sda2 - Ubuntu - extended - 3.16 GiB /dev/sda5 - Ubuntu - linux-swap - 3.16 GiB /dev/sdb1 - Windows XP - ntfs - 76 GiB /dev/sdc1 - Stuff - ext3 - Code/Documents /dev/sdd2 - Stuff - ext3 - Movies/Music

  • Pinned start menu/taskbar shortcuts gone.

    Hello. I just restarted my Windows 7 PC to find all my pinned shortcuts have disappeared from the start menu and taskbar. I've looked here "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned" And it seems the shortcuts are still there. Is there maybe a service that isn't running, which is causing this problem? Thanks.

  • How to reliably keep an SSH tunnel open?

    I use an SSH tunnel from work to go around various idotic firewalls (it's ok with my boss :)). The problem is, after a while the ssh connection usually hangs, and the tunnel is broken. If I could at least monitor the tunnel automatically, I could restart the tunnel when it hangs, but I haven't even figured a way of doing that. Bonus points for the one who can tell me how to prevent my ssh connection from hanging, of course!

    I have strange issue when try git push. Git clone and commit works fine. W access for my_project DENIED to deploy_my_project_ My gitolite.conf repo my_project R = deploy_my_project_111 RW+ = my_name I wonder why git push takes wrong user (deploy_project_111) with read access. This error is float. Twice i had to change rsa key(rsa keys is unchangeble) and restart computer. May be my computer do something wrong.

  • Tomcat app doesn't work with Fingerprint Reader in Windows 7

    I've got a tomcat webapp that uses a fingerprint reader. It works fine under Windows XP and Windows 7 if you double click on tomcat.exe. It doesn't work on Windows 7 if you run tomcat as a service. I imagine that when run as a service the process doesn't have the required permissions to talk to the device. I've tried running it as an administrator and verified that it's doing so with Process Explorer. What else should I check?

    Is it possible to prevent or disable autorun/autoplay/device-stage by modifying regedit? Because of some constraints, I cannot disable by Control Panel options. I found some related questions here, for example, and some solutions provided by Microsoft, mainly involving this key on regedit: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun But none of these solutions worked, neither after rebooting. Is there any other key or value that controls this kind of property?

  • Ubuntu home directory selectively reverting

    This is perhaps the most bizarre problem I've ever come across, but my home directory in Ubuntu 9.10 seems to be occasionally reverting to a previous state. For example, I'll change a setting in Opera (whose settings folder is in my home directory), then upon subsequent restart, may or may not have reset to what it was previously. This happens with all programs with settings in the home directory. I have the Kubuntu desktop downloaded as well, so I am using KDE4. Any ideas?

  • enable vnc on xen without having to shut down all the domains

    The last guy forgot to enable vnc connections on our Xen blade and I need to install a windows domain, is there any way I can enable vnc without shutting down half our company? From what I can tell I need to edit xend-config.sxp which would likely require a restart of xend, which means shutting down all the running domains. Is there any way around this? thanks :)

  • Eject a bad disk from optical drive

    I have an Alienware computer with one of the optical DVD drives that does not have a manual tray, just a slot to insert the disk. I recently inserted a disk that was apparently bad. It is unreadable does not show up in Windows Explorer. I tried right clicking on the Drive letter and hitting eject, but get an error message that there is no disk in the drive. How do I get the d--ned disk out so I can use the drive?
