onSubmit returning false is not working

I'm completely confused ... I'd swear this was working yesterday ... I woke up this morning and all my forms stopped to work in my project. All the forms have a "onsubmit" to a function that returns false since it's an ajax call, so the form is never sent. Paypal Encrypted Website payments

I am trying to integrate a PayPal Website Payments Standard Cart Upload payment type into my shopping cart. I integrated Google Checkout a while back and I did not find it overly confusing as I do paypal. I am getting info on how to encrypt it from here: https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?&cmd=_render-content&content_ID=developer/e_howto_html_encryptedwebpayments#id08A3I0P017Q Paypal says I need to generate a private key and a public certificate using OpenSSL. I went to OpenSSL and downloaded the latest release, which is just a folder containing various files but I see no application I can use, not sure what to do here. Even if I were to get OpenSSL to generate me a private key and public cert, the next step is to download either an MS or Java command line tool to create the encrypted cart ahead of time with the cart-total, tax, etc. which sounds crazy to me, like I am supposed to manually do this prior to every order?? Obviously I do not know the items in the cart the customer is going to buy before hand so I need this to be done on the fly on my website using PHP. But I am completely lost. There has to be a way to setup dynamic secure cart uploads to paypal. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

But if i set an alarm at 10-aug-2012 11:40:00, then as soon as exit the app the alarm pop-up, which is wrong because i set an alarm at month of august, So why this happen, is anything wrong in my code. if anyone knows help me to solve this out. How should I generate the partitions / pairs for the Chinese Postman problem?

I'm working on a program for class that involves solving the Chinese Postman problem. Our assignment only requires us to write a program to solve it for a hard-coded graph but I'm attempting to solve it for the general case on my own. The part that is giving me trouble is generating the partitions of pairings for the odd vertices. For example, if I had the following labeled odd verticies in a graph: 1 2 3 4 5 6 I need to find all the possible pairings / partitions I can make with these vertices. I've figured out I'll have i paritions given: n = num of odd verticies k = n / 2 i = ((2k)(2k-1)(2k-2)...(k+1))/2 So, given the 6 odd verticies above, we will know that we need to generate i = 15 partitions. The 15 partions would look like: 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 2 3 5 4 6 1 2 3 6 4 5 ... 1 6 ... Then, for each partition, I take each pair and find the shortest distance between them and sum them for that partition. The partition with the total smallest distance between its pairs is selected, and I then double all the edges between the shortest path between the odd vertices (found in the selected partition). These represent the edges the postman will have to walk twice. At first I thought I had worked out an appropriate algorithm for generating these partitions / pairs but it is flawed. I found it wasn't a simple permutation/combination problem. Does anyone who has studied this problem before have any tips that can help point me in the right direction for generating these partitions?

passing groups of properties from 1 class to another

I have a group of 13 properties in a class. I created a struct for these properties and passed it to another class. I need to add another 10 groups of these 13 properties. So thats 130 properties in total. What do I do? I could add all 130 properties to the struct. Will this affect performance and readability I could create a list of structs but don't know how to access an item eg. to add to the list: listRowItems.Add(new RowItems(){a=1, b=1, c=1, d=1...}); listRowItems.Add(new RowItems(){a=2, b=2, c=2, d=2...}); How do I access the second group item b? is it Could I use just a dictionary with 130 items Should I use a list of dictionaries (again I don't know how to access a particular item) Should I pass in a class of 130 properties Just for your interest the properties are css parameters used for a composite control. The control displays 13 elements in each row and there are 10 rows and each row is customisable.

Python script to calculate aded combinations from a dictionary

I am trying to write a script that will take a dictionary of items, each containing properties of values from 0 - 10, and add the various elements to select which combination of items achieve the desired totals. I also need the script to do this, using only items that have the same "slot" in common. Java Random Slowdowns on Mac OS cont'd

I asked this question a few weeks ago, but I'm still having the problem and I have some new hints. The original question is here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1651887/java-random-slowdowns-on-mac-os Basically, I have a java application that splits a job into independent pieces and runs them in separate threads. The threads have no synchronization or shared memory items. The only resources they do share are data files on the hard disk, with each thread having an open file channel. Most of the time it runs very fast, but occasionally it will run very slow for no apparent reason. If I attach a CPU profiler to it, then it will start running quickly again. If I take a CPU snapshot, it says its spending most of its time in "self time" in a function that doesn't do anything except check a few (unshared unsynchronized) booleans. I don't know how this could be accurate because 1, it makes no sense, and 2, attaching the profiler seems to knock the threads out of whatever mode they're in and fix the problem. Also, regardless of whether it runs fast or slow, it always finishes and gives the same output, and it never dips in total cpu usage (in this case ~1500%), implying that the threads aren't getting blocked. I have tried different garbage collectors, different sizings the parts of the memory space, writing data output to non-raid drives, and putting all data output in threads separate the main worker threads. Does anyone have any idea what kind of problem this could be? Could it be the operating system (OS X 10.6.2) ? I have not been able to duplicate it on a windows machine, but I don't have one with a similar hardware configuration.

Handling file uploads with JavaScript and Google Gears, is there a better solution?

So - I've been using this method of file uploading for a bit, but it seems that Google Gears has poor support for the newer browsers that implement the HTML5 specs. I've heard the word deprecated floating around a few channels, so I'm looking for a replacement that can accomplish the following tasks, and support the new browsers. I can always fall back to gears / standard file POST's but these following items make my process much simpler: Users MUST to be able to select multiple files for uploading in the dialog. I MUST be able to receive status updates on the transmission of a file. (progress bars) I would like to be able to use PUT requests instead of POST I would like to be able to easily attach these events to existing HTML elements using JavaScript. I.E. the File Selection should be triggered on a <button> click. I would like to be able to control response/request parameters easily using JavaScript. I'm not sure if the new HTML5 browsers have support for the desktop/request objects gears uses, or if there is a flash uploader that has these features that I am missing in my google searches. I need some pointers on how to implement inertia

Ok, so I've created a little plugin that takes a bunch of elements and creates a sort of never ending list. I'll try to explain... I have a div, and it's got about 20 elements tags in it. When the user scrolls up, the top element moves out of view and is moved to the bottom of the list. And vice-versa so that when the user scrolls down, the bottom element is moved to the top of the list. Just like the inertia commonly found in the iPhone / iPad UI. The problem is, every time an element moves to the top or the bottom of the list, the scollTop value for the parent div is adjusted to make it look like all the elements are staying in the same place. Which means the scrollTop value is never more than the top elements total height. So there's no value I can think of that I can keep on manipulating to give the illusion of inertia. I'm stumped. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Am I doing this right? I went to look at some old PHP code w/ MySQL and I've managed to get it to work, however I'm wondering if there's a much "cleaner" and "faster" way of accomplishing this. SQL: Join multiple tables and get a grouped sum

I have a database with 3 tables that have related data. One table has transactions, and the other two relate to transaction categories. Basically it's financial data, so each transaction has a category (i.e. "gasoline" for a gas purchase transaction). A short version of my Transactions table looks like this- Transactions Table: ________________________________ | ID | Type | Amount | Category | --------------------------------- I also have two more tables relating a category to a categories parent. So basically, every Category entry in the Transactions Table belongs to a parent category (i.e. "gasoline" would belong to say "Automotive Expenses"). For categories, and their parent, I have two tables - Category Children: ____________________________________________ | ID | Parent Category ID | Child Category | -------------------------------------------- Category Parent: ________________________ | ID | Parent Category | ------------------------ What I'm trying to do is query the database and have it return a total spending by parent category. To get "spending" the Type of transactions must be "Debit". I tried the following statement: SELECT category_parents.parent_category, SUM(amount) AS totals FROM (transactions INNER JOIN category_children ON transactions.category = 'category_children.child_category') INNER JOIN category_parents ON category_children.parent_category_id = category_parents._id WHERE trans_type = 'Debit' GROUP BY parent_category ORDER BY totals DESC but it gives me the following exception: 12-31 13:51:21.515: ERROR/Exception on query(4403): android.database.sqlite.SQLiteException: no such column: category_children.parent_category_id: , while compiling: SELECT category_parents.parent_category, SUM(amount) AS totals FROM (transactions INNER JOIN category_children ON transactions.category='category_children.child_category') INNER JOIN category_parents ON category_children.parent_category_id=category_parents._id where trans_type='Debit' group by parent_category order by totals desc Any help is appreciated. Distributing a bundle of files across an extranet

I want to be able to distribute bundles of files, about 500 MB per bundle, to all machines on a corporate "extranet" (which is basically a few LANs connected using various private mechanisms, including leased lines and VPN). The total number of hosts is roughly 100, and the goal is to get a copy of the bundle from one host onto all the other hosts reliably, quickly, and efficiently. One important issue is that some hosts are grouped together on single fast LANs in which case the network I/O should be done once from one group to the next and then within each group between all the peers. This is as opposed to a strict central server system where multiple hosts might each fetch the same bundle over a slow link, rather than once via the slow link and then between each other quickly. A new bundle will be produced every few days, and occasionally old bundles will be deleted (but that problem can be solved separately). The machines in question happen to run recent Linuxes, but bonus points will go to solutions which are at least somewhat cross-platform (in which case the bundle might differ per platform but maybe the same mechanism can be used). That's pretty much it. I'm not opposed to writing some code to handle this, but it would be preferable if it were one of bash, Python, Ruby, Lua, C, or C++.

how often should the entire suite of a system's unit tests be run?

Generally, I'm still very much a unit testing neophyte. BTW, you may also see this question on other forums like xUnit.net, et cetera, because it's an important question to me. I apoligize in advance for my cross posting; your opinions are very important to me and not everyone in this forum belongs to the other forums too. I was looking at a large decade old legacy system which has had over 700 unit tests written recently (700 is just a small beginning). The tests happen to be written in MSTest but this question applies to all testing frameworks AFAIK. When I ran, via vs2008 "ALL TESTS", the final count was only seven tests. That's about 1% of the total tests that have been written to date. MORE INFORMATION: The ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM source code, including its unit tests, is available on CodePlex; those unit tests are also written in MSTest even though (an irrelevant fact) Brad Wilson later joined the ASP.NET MVC team as its Senior Programmer. All 2000 plus tests get run, not just a few. QUESTION: given that AFAIK the purpose of unit tests is to identify breakages in the SUT, am I correct in thinking that the "best practice" is to always, or at least very frequently, run all of the tests? Hi all, I've seen many articles about how to put together Agile RFP's and negotiating agile contracts, but how about if you're responding to a more traditional RFP? Any advice on how to meet the requirements of the RFP while still presenting an agile approach? A lot of these traditional RFP's request specific technical implementations, timelines, and costs, while also requesting exact details about milestones and how the technical solutions will be implemented. While I'm sure in traditional waterfall it's normal to pretend that these things are facts, it seems wrong to commit to something like this if you're an agile organization just to get through the initial screening process. What methods have you used to respond to more traditional RFP's? Here's a sample one grabbed from google, http://www.investtoronto.ca/documents/rfp-web-development.pdf Particularly, "3. A detailed work plan outlining how they expect to achieve the four deliverables within the timeframe outlined. Plan for additional phases of development." and "8. I'm looking for a way to evaluate reading rate in several languages

I have a software that is page oriented instead of scrollbar oriented so i can easily count the words, but i'd like a way to filter outliers and some default value for the text language (that is known). The goal is from the remaining text to calculate the remaining time. I'm not sure what is the best unit to use. WPM (words per minute) from here seems very fuzzy and human oriented. Besides i don't know how many "words" remain in the text. http://www.sfsu.edu/~testing/CalReadRate.htm So i came up with this: The user is reading the text. The total text size in characters is known. His position in the text is known. So the remaining characters to read is also known. If a language has a median word length of say 5 chars, then if i had a WPM speed for the user, i could calculate the remaining time. 3 things are needed for this: 1) A table of the median word length of the language. 2) A table of the median WPM of a median user per language. 3) Update the WPM to fit the user as data becomes available, filtering outliers. However i can't find these tables. And i'm not sure how precise it is assuming median word length.

You always hear that functional code is inherently easier to parallelize than non-functional code, so I decided to write a function which does the following: Given a input of strings, total up the number of unique characters for each string. So, given the input [ "aaaaa"; "bbb"; "ccccccc"; "abbbc" ], our method will returns a: 6; b: 6; c: 8. Here's what I've written: (* seq<#seq<char>> -> Map<char,int> *) let wordFrequency input = input |> Seq.fold (fun acc text -> (* This inner loop can be processed on its own thread *) text |> Seq.choose (fun char -> if Char.IsLetter char then Some(char) else None) |> Seq.fold (fun (acc : Map<_,_>) item -> match acc.TryFind(item) with | Some(count) -> acc.Add(item, count + 1) | None -> acc.Add(item, 1)) acc ) Map.empty This code is ideally parallelizable, because each string in input can be processed on its own thread. Its not as straightforward as it looks since the innerloop adds items to a Map shared between all of the inputs. I'd like the inner loop factored out into its own thread, and I don't want to use any mutable state. How would I re-write this function using an Async workflow?

Python: How can I use Twisted as the transport for SUDS?

I have a project that is based on Twisted used to communicate with network devices and I am adding support for a new vendor (Citrix NetScaler) whose API is SOAP. Unfortunately the support for SOAP in Twisted still relies on SOAPpy, which is badly out of date. In fact as of this question (I just checked), twisted.web.soap itself hasn't even been updated in 21 months! I would like to ask if anyone has any experience they would be willing to share with utilizing Twisted's superb asynchronous transport functionality with SUDS. It seems like plugging in a custom Twisted transport would be a natural fit in SUDS' Client.options.transport, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around it. I did come up with a way to call the SOAP method with SUDS asynchronously by utilizing twisted.internet.threads.deferToThread(), but this feels like a hack to me. Complex LINQ paging algorithm

We have a list of projects that may or may not have a collection of subprojects. Our report needs to contain all the projects except those that are the parent project of a subproject. I need to page this into pages of, say, 25 rows. But if subprojects appear on that page then ALL the subprojects of that project must appear on the same page. So more than 25 items may appear if necessary. I've got as far as var pagedProjects = db.Projects.Where(x => !x.SubProjects.Any()).Skip( (pageNo -1) * pageSize).Take(pageSize); Obviously, this fails the second part of the requirements. As a further pain in the arse, I need to have a pager control on the report. So I'll need to be able to calculate the total number of pages. I could loop through the whole table of projects but the performance will suffer. Can anybody come up with a paged solution? EDIT - I should probably mention that SubProjects joins back onto Projects via a selfreferencing foreign key so the whole lot comes back as an IQueryable<Project>.

MYOB Import "amount paid"

I seem to have found an anomaly with MYOB (I've actually found many anomalies, this is just another one that is doing my head in...) I am generating a file with all invoices from the web system - no problems. If an invoice has 3 lines and the account is paid COD, I am having an problem e.g. "INV", "DATE" ... "AMOUNT", "INC TAX AMOUNT" ... "AMOUNT PAID" 8421, 12/06/2010 ... 60, 66 ... 66 8421, 12/06/2010 ... 120, 132 ... 132 8421, 12/06/2010 ... 96, 105.6 ... 105.6 8421, 12/06/2010 ... 84, 92.4 ... 92.4 When I import this file, the balance of the invoice is still outstanding and what it appears is the issue is that it is only importing the first line of "amount paid" ... so in other words, based on the above: Invoice 8421 is imported with 4 lines The total invoice amount is $396 The Amount paid (that is imported) is $66 The outstanding balance = $330 Surely the first line isn't expected to be: Inc tax Amount = $66 Amount Paid = $396 It seems completely illogical to me... am I doing something wrong or is MYOB just really bad?

JavaME - LWUIT images eat up all the memory

Hi, I'm writing a MIDlet using LWUIT and images seem to eat up incredible amounts of memory. All the images I use are PNGs and are packed inside the JAR file. I load them using the standard Image.createImage(URL) method. The application has a number of forms and each has a couple of labels an buttons, however I am fairly certain that only the active form is kept in memory (I know it isn't very trustworthy, but Runtime.freeMemory() seems to confirm this). The application has worked well in 240x320 resolution, but moving it to 480x640 and using appropriately larger images for UI started causing out of memory errors to show up. What the application does, among other things, is download remote images. The application seems to work fine until it gets to this point. After downloading a couple of PNGs and returning to the main menu, the out of memory error is encountered. Naturally, I looked into the amount of memory the main menu uses and it was pretty shocking. It's just two labels with images and four buttons. Each button has three images used for style.setIcon, setPressedIcon and setRolloverIcon. Images range in size from 15 to 25KB but removing two of the three images used for every button (so 8 images in total), Runtime.freeMemory() showed a stunning 1MB decrease in memory usage. The way I see it, I either have a whole lot of memory leaks (which I don't think I do, but memory leaks aren't exactly known to be easily tracked down), I am doing something terribly wrong with image handling or there's really no problem involved and I just need to scale down. If anyone has any insight to offer, I would greatly appreciate it.

Reducing load time, or making the user think the load time is less

I've been working on a website, and we've managed to reduce the total content for a page load from 13.7MiB's to 2.4, but the page still takes forever to load. It's a joomla site (ick), and it has a lot of redundant DOM elements (2000+ for the home page), and make 60+ HttpRequest's per page load, counting all the css, js, and image requests. Unlike drupal, joomla won't merge them all on the fly, and they have to be kept separate or else the joomla components will go nuts. What can I do to improve load time? Things I've done: Added colors to dom elements that have large images as their background so the color is loaded, then the image Reduced excessively large images to much smaller file sizes Reduced DOM elements to ~2000, from ~5000 Loading CSS at the start of the page, and javascript at the end Not totally possible, joomla injects it's own javascript and css and it does it at the header, always. Minified most javascript Setup caching and gziping on server Uncached size 2.4MB, cached is ~300KB, but even with so many dom elements, the page takes a good bit of time to render. What more can I do to improve the load time?

Singleton Pattern combine with a Decorator

My question is how would you modify the below code so that you can wrap zero or one of each topping on to the Pizza Right now I can have a Pepporini - Sausage -- Pepporini -- Pizza class driving the total cost up to $10, charging twice for Pepporini. I don't think I want to use the Chain of Responsibility pattern as order does not matter and not all toppings are used? IBOutlet instances are (null) after loading from NIB

I am working on an iPhone app and am getting (null) references to IBOutlet fields in my controller. I have a UIViewController subclass that is set as the File's Owner in my XIB. I have a set of UI elements that are wired into the controller. After loading from NIB and attempting to set properties on those UI elements, I find that they are (null). To clarify, some code: ExpandSearchPageController.h: @interface ExpandSearchPageController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UITextView * completeMessageView; } -(void)checkTextField; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextView * completeMessageView; ExpandSearchPageController.m: @implementation ExpandSearchPageController @synthesize completeMessageView; -(void)checkTextField { NSLog(@"text field: %@",completeMessageView); } ExpandSearchPageController is set as the File's Owner for ExpandSearchPage.xib. ExpandSearchPage.xib's UITextView is wired to the completeMessageView. When I call ExpandSearchPageController * searchExpanderPage = [[ExpandSearchPageController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ExpandSearchPage" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [searchExpanderPage checkTextField]; the result is "text field: (null)" Sorry if this is a total newb question, but I guess I'm still a newb at iPhone programming!
