  • Is there a C++ cross platform key/value API or library for C++?

    We want to persist some user settings int he GUI part of our code. I used to do Win32 programming exclusively and the typical way this was done was with registry settings. I assume that this should be done with configuration files, but was wondering if there was a library or cross platform wrapper that made key/value pair persistence very easy.

  • Scala XML API: Why allow NodeSeq as attribute values?

    It seems attribute values are of type Seq[Node]. scala> <a b="1"/>.attribute("b") res11: Option[Seq[scala.xml.Node]] = Some(1) This means you can assign XML as an attribute value. scala> <a b={<z><x/></z>}/>.attribute("b") res16: Option[Seq[scala.xml.Node]] = Some(<z><x></x></z>) scala> <a b={<z><x/></z>}/>.attribute("b").map(_ \ "x") res17: Option[scala.xml.NodeSeq] = Some(<x></x>) scala> new xml.PrettyPrinter(120, 2).format(<a b={<z><x/></z>}/>) res19: String = <a b="<z><x></x></z>"></a> This seems funky to me. I've never seen XML as attribute values in the real world. Why is it allowed? Why is an attribute value simply not of type String?

  • Is there a library / api for reading the contents of a .hlp help file?

So I thought I could just use the beginning of the menu's description of the help but just cant find how to access the contents of it. I saw WinHelp has a macro language, so I figured maybe through this, but I couldnt find any references on this around. Anybody now some pointers or examples of hot to do this?

  • Is there a way to create my own "push pins" for a image without using Google Maps API?

    I am interested in working with friends via the internet on a fantasy world map. One of the things I want to do is host an image of the map online and allow us to insert push pins into the image that would then be associated with infoboxes. I don't want to resort to using the Google Map APIs mainly because this is something I want to just share among friends and not publicly. Terms of usage for the APIs state we would need to make the implementation available for everyone. This seems simple enough yet I've no idea how to do this. I looked into image maps, but that requires constant updates to the html markup itself. I just want to insert/delete/edit pushpins and infoboxes on the image and through our site itself. Can someone help me get started?

I cannot just ignore them. I have to catch them. What you are going to do with those 8 exceptions? Catch them separately (too many lines)?     We have a series of internal reports that we update regularly from our internal databases. We built an application in C# that uploads these reports to a Google Site. Everything works fine, except that the name of the file shown to the final user in the File Cabinet does not include the original spaces nor the extension separator (.)     How can I programmatically retrieve the current connection type (eg. LAN or Direct connection)? InternetGetConnectedState() isn't very reliable. For instance, I'm connected to a wireless network, but ConTypeRet is 18, which is INTERNET_CONNECTION_LAN & INTERNET_RAS_INSTALLED. Isn't there any way to make sure that ConTypeRet is either INTERNET_CONNECTION_LAN or INTERNET_CONNECTION_MODEM?

  • TweetMeme Button or Template Plug-In for WLW

    In my search for a way to allow readers to tweet post that I put on GWB I have come across the TweetMeme plug-in for Windows Live Writer.  It automatically puts a twitter button at either the top or bottom of your post depending on how you configure it.  It comes with a warning that it does not work with blog servers that strip out script from posts which I made me afraid it was going to make it incompatible with GWB.  This turned out to be the case so I figured we would need either an upgrade to the GWB platform or writing my own WLW plug-in.  In comes the Template plug-in.  This allows you to have standardized content that you can insert with a couple of clicks via the interface below. This solved the problem (sort of).  It required that I remove the standard javascript that is defined by Twitter’s button page.  In the end I am hoping for an update to our Subtext implementation to incorporate features like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and G+, but this should help us until that comes along.
