  • Android multiple screen sizes and density problems

    - by Ben Mc
I'm having a real problem with my drawables that I just can't seem to figure out. The problem is this: There are screen sizes at approximately 320x480, 480x800, 480x854 Then there are most commonly densities at 1.0 (160) and 1.5 (240) Now, on a Droid, the screen size is 480x800 and the density is reporting using DisplayMetrics as 1.5 On the G1, it's 320x480 and reporting back at a density of 1.0 BUT tablet devices are reporting back at 480x800 with a density of 1.0 (160) So, I'm going mad because I can put 320x480 images in the drawables-mdpi folder and 480x800 images in the drawables-hdpi folder, but on Tablet computers, no matter what it's not resizing up anything to a full screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want all of my 320x480 images to scale up regardless of the device.

  • Android: Create TextView that flashes when clicked

    - by Jeremy
How do I set up a TextView to flash when it is clicked? I essentially want one of the objects that is displayed in a ListActivity, but inside a normal View. I have tried to do this by adding an OnClickListener, but what I really need is something like adding an On(Un)SelectListener. Using the onClickListener, I can change the TextView background, but obviously the background stays that color. I thought of using a new Handler().postDelayed(new Runnable(){ ... }) kind of thing to reset the backround after some small time, but I did not know if this would be overkill for what I'm trying to do. What would you recommend?

  • The concept of an Intent in Android?

    - by Mohit Deshpande
I don't really understand the use and concept of an Intent. I DO understand that an activity are one visual interface and one endeavour that the user can partake in. I THINK an intent is used to launch and communicate between different activities. If so, then how would you accomplish that? A code sample would be helpful.

  • android imageview scrolling to display full high quality image

    - by Javadid
hi friends... i am working on displaying an image and placing an icon on top of it... clicking the icon will show an enlarged version of the image... though putting the imageview holding the image in a LinearLayout scales the image to the width of the dialog, the problem is that i need to display the image in a dialog but the image is very high resolution and hence is far bigger than the width of the dialog... I need to show the actual image with scrolling for both ways to see the whole image... But whenever i try putting the imageView in a scrollview the top of my imageview is blank... and again though image scrolls downwards the width is scaled to the width of the dialog... Helppppppppp guys....

  • mounting SD card on android emulator

    - by Lo'oris
On the emulator, I can unmount the SD card from the Settings. On OSX, I can then mount it using hdiutil, then unmount it normally. I haven't been able to figure out how to re-mount it then on the emulator (without rebooting it). hints: the adb command "remount" is unrelated: it's about /system the emulator command is unrelated: it's only about starting the emulator mounting the SD card on OSX without unmounting it from the emulator, causes horrible pain to the emulator

  • Android ScrollView issue

    - by Salman
Guys, We are trying to make a board with sticky notes. We have used ScrollView in which we have LinearLayout. We have four columns. If there are more than 3 notes in one column, scrollview comes up. Issue is, if I try to move Row 5 column 1 note to Row 1 Column 2, scroll views hides all the notes. If we scroll to top of the board, notes become visible again. Any idea what's the issue ? Thanks Salman

  • Dropping PendingIntents

    - by Jeremy Edwards
Is it ok to drop PendingIntents in android if they are never used. Such as in an AppWidgetProvider where a PendingIntent that was never used be overwritten by a new PendingIntent. Or should we call cancel on all unused PendingIntents to clean up memory appropriately?

  • Android ExpandableListView From Database

    - by SterAllures
I want to create a two level ExpandableListView from a local database. The group level I want to get the names from the database Category table category_id | name ------------------- 1 | NameOfCategory the children level I want to get the names from the List table list_id | name | foreign_category_id -------------------------------- 1 | Listname | 1 I've got a method in DatabaseDAO to get all the values from the table public List<Category> getAllCategories() { database = dbHelper.getReadableDatabase(); List<Category> categories = new ArrayList<Category>(); Cursor cursor = database.query(SQLiteHelper.TABLE_CATEGORY, null, null, null, null, null, null); cursor.moveToFirst(); while(!cursor.isAfterLast()) { Category category = cursorToCategory(cursor); categories.add(category); cursor.moveToNext(); } cursor.close(); return categories; } Now adding the names to the group level is easy I do it the following way: ArrayList<String> groups; for(Category c : databaseDao.getAllCategories()) { groups.add(c.getName()); } Now I want to add the children to the ExpandableListView in the following array ArrayList<ArrayList<ArrayList<String>>> children;. How do I get the children under the correct group name? I think it has to do somenthing with groups.indexOf() but in the list table I only have a foreign category_id and not the actual name.

  • Getting the values from an array in android

    - by Rahul Varma
Hi, I have a collection of strings and declared the strings individually as arrays using ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); and called the arrays in the program by using al=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("titles"); Now, instead of declaring each of the arrays i have created SongsArray.java like below... public class SongsArray { private String title; private String movieName; private String singerName; private String imagePath; private String mediaPath; public String gettitle() { return title; } public void settitle(String title) { this.title = title; } public String getmovieName() { return movieName; } public void setmovieName(String movieName) { this.movieName = movieName; } public String getsingerName() { return singerName; } public void setsingerName(String singerName) { this.singerName = singerName; } public String getimagePath() { return imagePath; } public void setimagePath(String imagePath) { this.imagePath = imagePath; } public String getmediaPath() { return mediaPath; } public void setmediaPath(String mediaPath) { this.mediaPath = mediaPath; } } Now i want to call the arrays that i have declared. How can i do that???

  • How to get current location with an accept accuracy in Android

    - by virsir
I am trying to locate user's device to get its current location with coarse method. The problem is that I can only accept a location with accuracy of 1000m, my code like this: public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { currentLocation = location; if(location.hasAccuracy()) { if(location.getAccuracy() < 1000) { locationManager.removeUpdates(this); callback(); //do callback here } } } But what if the network is not good and I can not get the location with that accuracy? I may want to accept the latest location I got if I have requested its location for some time, like 1 minute. Then how can I control the request time, for example, 1 minute, if it did not get the accurate location until then, I will stop it and then accept the latest location I have got if exist.

  • Get the touch position inside the imageview in android

    - by Manikandan
    I have a imageview in my activity and I am able to get the position where the user touch the imageview, through onTouchListener. I placed another image where the user touch over that image. I need to store the touch position(x,y), and use it in another activity, to show the tags. I stored the touch position in the first activity. In the first activity, my imageview at the top of the screen. In the second activity its at the bottom of the screen. If I use the position stored from the first acitvity, it place the tag image at the top, not on the imageview, where I previously clicked in the first activity. Is there anyway to get the position inside the imageview. FirstActivity: cp.setOnTouchListener(new OnTouchListener() { @Override public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Log.v("touched x val of cap img >>", event.getX() + ""); Log.v("touched y val of cap img >>", event.getY() + ""); x = (int) event.getX(); y = (int) event.getY(); tag.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); int[] viewCoords = new int[2]; cp.getLocationOnScreen(viewCoords); int imageX = x - viewCoords[0]; // viewCoods[0] is the X coordinate int imageY = y - viewCoords[1]; // viewCoods[1] is the y coordinate Log.v("Real x >>>",imageX+""); Log.v("Real y >>>",imageY+""); RelativeLayout rl = (RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.lay_lin); ImageView iv = new ImageView(Capture_Image.this); Bitmap bm = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.tag_icon_32); iv.setImageBitmap(bm); RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams( RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, RelativeLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT); params.leftMargin = x; params.topMargin = y; rl.addView(iv, params); Intent intent= new Intent(Capture_Image.this,Tag_Image.class); Bundle b=new Bundle(); b.putInt("xval", imageX); b.putInt("yval", imageY); intent.putExtras(b); startActivity(intent); return false; } }); In TagImage.java I used the following: im = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.img_cam22); b=getIntent().getExtras(); xx=b.getInt("xval"); yy=b.getInt("yval"); im.setOnTouchListener(new OnTouchListener() { @Override public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { int[] viewCoords = new int[2]; im.getLocationOnScreen(viewCoords); int imageX = xx + viewCoords[0]; // viewCoods[0] is the X coordinate int imageY = yy+ viewCoords[1]; // viewCoods[1] is the y coordinate Log.v("Real x >>>",imageX+""); Log.v("Real y >>>",imageY+""); RelativeLayout rl = (RelativeLayout) findViewById(R.id.lay_lin); ImageView iv = new ImageView(Tag_Image.this); Bitmap bm = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.tag_icon_32); iv.setImageBitmap(bm); RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params = new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams( 30, 40); params.leftMargin =imageX ; params.topMargin = imageY; rl.addView(iv, params); return true; } });

  • Android App Widget: Data storage

    - by Jeffrey
Hello everyone, I'm implementing a home screen app widget. I was wondering which is better to store/read data: SharedPreferences or a SQLite database? The data is accessed from an AppWidgetProvider (similar to a BroadcastReceiver), and any given instance of the widget displays different data based on appWidgetId. Is one way or the other frowned upon? Thanks for your time.
