• Android Proxy Cursor

  I have a database with which I wish to expose data with a ContentProvider. However, it is important that all the colums are not exposed, and also they should be renamed. Is there any good way of doing this? I was thinking maybe some kind of proxy-cursor which takes a cursor and translates its columns to the desired ones, and calls to close and the like would just be replayed to the original cursor. Does something like this exist, or would it be hard to make?

• Question about the lifecycle of a simple Android application

  Hi, I've got a simple application with 3 activities: -the first contains a search box which calls a web service and show the results (restaurants) below in a listview -when a restaurant is clicked another activity is started showing the description of the restaurant and a button "show map" -when the button "show map" is clicked, guess what, the map is shown in a third activity. All the data is loaded in the first activity by a web service (restaurant descriptions and coordinates), and data required by each activity is passed in a bundle using "intent.putExtra". Now everything seems to run smoothly when clicking on the back button (eg. clicking on the back button from the map resumes the "restaurant description" activity with all data set properly), while I haven't done anything about the lifecycle yet. Why? Are all variables saved automatically? Should I use onSaveInstanceState() and onRestoreInstanceState() anyway? Thanks Jul

  I have an app that is streaming audio content and sometimes it just stops all of the suddent. the logcat windows shows -- AudioHardware pcm playback is going to standby and that's it. I saw on another thread (pun intended) that someone was saying it was because he was using too many threads. Could that really be causing this? Could i give the audio thread higher priority? Anyway to prevent the audio hardware pcm from going to standby?

  Hi I'm developing an activity that binds to a local service (in onCreate of the activity): bindService(new Intent(this, CommandService.class), svcConn, BIND_AUTO_CREATE); I would like to be able to call methods through the IBinder in my lifecycle methods, but can not be sure that onServiceConnected have been called prior to these. I'm thinking of handling this by adding a queue of sorts in the ServiceConnection implementation, so that the method calls (Command pattern) will be executed once the connection is established. My questions are then: Is this stupid, any better ways? :) Are there any specification for which thread will be used to execute the ServiceConnection callbacks? More to the point, do I need to worry about synchronizing a queue datastructure? • Get location of object when animation is complete in android

  Is there a way to find out the final location of my animated "object" after the animation? Let's say I am animating an ImageView with location in parent as (0,0 - 20,20) using TranslateAnimation and ScaleAnimation over 1 second with setFillAfter(true). How to I find the final location of this "object" (since the View location itself does not move)? I need to continue the animation from this point based on an user input.

• PreferenceActivity not showing twice on android

  Hello there, i've a PreferenceActivity which works perfectly the first time i launch it. But if i close it ( with the back button ) and then i re open it ( through a menu click in the main activity ) then i get a black screen. There is no preferences at all.. I can't figure it out why it should not working. It seems all the code is being called normally as the working one but no preferences are showing on the screen. Did someone had the same behaviour ?

• Android application not working on 1.5 firmware?

  My trouble is: when i get new data, my viewpager that use my custom adapter do not update view. I discovered that many programmer got same bug, so i tried a lot of suggestion but no way works for me. So tired.   After many houres of bug searching in a big app, I have finally tracked down the bug. This logging captures the problem: Log.d(TAG,"buildList, DBresult.getInt(1): "+DBresult.getInt(1)); Log.d(TAG,"buildList, DBresult.getString(1): "+DBresult.getString(1)); Log.d(TAG,"buildList, DBresult.getInt(4): "+DBresult.getInt(4)); Log.d(TAG,"buildList, DBresult.getString(4): "+DBresult.getString(4)); The resulting output: 05-06 11:11:20.123: DEBUG/TodoList(18943): buildList, DBresult.getInt(1): 0 05-06 11:11:20.123: DEBUG/TodoList(18943): buildList, DBresult.getString(1): false 05-06 11:11:20.123: DEBUG/TodoList(18943): buildList, DBresult.getInt(4): 0 05-06 11:11:20.123: DEBUG/TodoList(18943): buildList, DBresult.getString(4): true There are no backgroung threads running. As you can see the problem is that '0' is interpreted as false on one occasion, and as true on another. Since I am completely lost on how this can happen, I dont know how to proceed. What could possibly result in such a behaviour? Both the columns are of the type "boolean", i.e a numeric in sqlite. Unfortunately the string returned is the correct value, while the integer is always 0. If I export the database to my computer and check it with SQlite Administrator I can see that the values are correctly set, it is only the getInt()-function that always returns 0. I know for a fact that this works in other apps I have coded, and I dont know why this has stopped working. I have tried compiling the code under 2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.1, and it always appears. I can make my app runnable again by getting boolean values like this: myBool= (DBresult.getString(0).equals("true")); but that is both ugly and not optimized. Any suggestions on what is causing this behaviour is welcome. Cheers,

• Android: stack management for views in a tab?

  I see some answers here prefer views over activities as contents of tabs. Correct me if I am wrong. My understanding is that by switching out views, it's possible to keep the navigation flow inside a tab (more user friendly, I think). But I wonder how to manage the view stack then in case of the back button events. Also this could cause one giant Activity with large amount of views, which might not be good. So I wish to know why exactly views as contents is preferred before I change my current application to this. Thanks,
