  • POS Desktop Application using DB or Localfiles ? using WPF

    I am planning to build a POS Application for my shop. I have enough knowledge to build the application using DB and also using local files( system.IO - binary files ) to store and access the data for my application. But , i have no deployment experience and confused in choosing data storing option. Database using MDF may be good option ( may ease plenty of coding ) but i don't want to have SQL server on my desktop. as i am using WPF for building , my concern is that my application may get slow due to server response and design rendering of WPF. Then i tried to use only local data (binary files) to store the data and retrive using class and objects. but this coding is taking lot of time , so in the middle of the process i struck in the dilemma of going back to Database . Please help , for performance wise whic one is better . and in Practical World ,in professional applications which one is widely using .. please give suggestions ..

  • What to do when you are a programmer and have a cold?

    If you have a cold that isn't too bad, does it make sense to still go into the office and get some coding done? Assume a private office, no meetings for the day, and you have some documentation and coding tasks that need to get done. Also assume that you operate on a PTO system, where all days off are "vacation" or PTO. To clarify, should one just not code at all when under the weather? That's what I'm getting at. Will you just kick yourself in your own rear when you go back to deal with code you wrote when you are sick? What is the error defect rate of sick vs non-sick programming hours?

  • Writing code to be a better programmer

    A while back I heard on a podcast about a site listing "10 applications to write that will make you a better programmer." I'm desperate to find where this is, or at the very least a decent list from someone here. The thing is, I've been writing code for about 8 years now, and it's my passion. Very few things make me happier than getting lost in some C# or Python. But I've spent the last 2 years in a job that doesn't allow me much time to do what I love. Now everyone knows that the best way to keep your coding sword sharp is to use it, and I've noticed recently that mine is getting dull. Does anyone have any suggestions on some simple programs to help flex my coding muscle? I'm one of those odd few who actually likes writing CRUD applications, so stuff like that would be nice, too.

    Hi, I want to be able to get all the facts from webpages. But these have to be related to coding, and not, for example, about something irrelevant. For example: The Engine renders at a decent speed. May be a fact but is not what I am interested in. If the same article states: A class is a reference type. (This is C#) Then I am interested in that as it is coding related. Has an algorithm like this ever been done? How hard would this be? I'm thinking AI would come into play here. Any advice sought.   • Delphi and mysql - Unable to connent to server..maybe custom connection reqd

    I am coding an application for my company wherein i want to parse the results of a mysql query and display them in my application but i am facing a problem conecting to the database. the ip address of the server is : 172.30.192.20 and before i can ping it i have to add route on my pc something like this route add 172.30.192.0 mask 255.255.255.0 172.30.192.56 where 172.30.192.56 is the gateway Now whenever i try to connect 172.30.192.20 which is where the sql server is running my appplication instead connects to 172.30.192.56 i am coding the application in delphi and have used TmySQL After this didnt workout i tried an application called SQLwave. I just entered the server ip address and was able to connect to the database without any problems. it seems sqlwave uses mydac which is why even i tried using it but using the default connection options and setting i was still not able to connect. it seems sqlwave uses a custom connection using mydac i just want to know whats going wrong with my connection

  • Error when selecting content from ADDTIME(CURTIME(), '14400 hour') format

    So apparently i've stumbled upon a coding error when trying to select the time from my database. SELECT * FROM `videos` WHERE `added_time` > AddTime( CurTime(), '14400 hour' ) is the code, i'm trying to select all the videos posted 10 days (14400 hours) ago using the "added_time" format, because it worked for my previous coding but in this one it work work.   • How to learn programming language (syntax rules, etc.) and remember easily? [closed]

    I'm new to programming, and I always have a so call difficulty, that is, I always tend to forget the thing (syntax, rules, name, definition or anyting) of a programming language I've learnt. And I personally do feel that the way I learn it is wrong. Here is my method. Everyday I will spend approximately 1 or 2 hours on a programming e-book. I just follow the syllabus and teaching inside the books, of course I have try to code myself, alter the code inside the book, and did the exercises available. But everytime right after I finish a chapter and advanced myself to third or fourth chapter, I will forgot something I learnt in the first chapter. Is it the method I use wrong? Does learning through reading and coding not enough? Do I need to everytime make a small note (mind map for example) of things I've learnt by hand writing? Or do I sometime need to try coding using a pencil and a book, but not a computer?

  • How to change mouse pointer icon in Xfce Debian 7 Wheezy?

    I copied the cursor theme (oxy-neon or Oxygen Neon) to /usr/share/icons and from Applications Menu - Settings - Mouse, I am able to see the new theme. I clicked on it and the pointer doesn't change. However the text typing icon ('I'), busy icon, hand icon, and resize window icons got changed. The pointer icon remains the same, the black Adwaita. I removed the Adwaita folder from the icons folder, and still the mouse pointer doesn't change. Is the pointer theme specified elsewhere? I have no setting under home directory. I tried logging out, restart, restarting xfwm4, but nothing works. I just found that the icon pointer changes when the pointer is inside Firefox, but it's not consistent. It keeps changing when I click menu items. Very weird. Any idea how to fix this?   • VirtualBox Mac - Is it possible re-map a key for a VM

    I am running Windows inside VirtualBox on Mac OSX. However, I am frequently copying and pasting/undoing etc using keyboard shortcuts. Because Mac is dumb and tries to be different, common shortcuts such as ctrl+c and ctrl+v are cmd+c and cmd+v on Mac. This creates a problem because I keep trying to use mac-style shortcuts in the VM, or windows-style shortcuts on the Mac (my workflow is, do ASP.NET dev in the VM, but use the Mac hosts browser). What I would like to be able to do is make VirtualBox send "Command" key presses as "Ctrl" to the VM, so that I dont have to keep remembering which environment I am in and thinking about which key combination I need to use. Is this possible?

  • Adjust spacing between list elements in Word 2010

    Is there a way to adjust the spacing between list elements in Word 2010? I can apply a style to the list, and then edit the style, and edit the spacing before and after the element, but this applies to the list, not the list element. There are no styles I can see which can be applied to a list element allowing the spacing between list elements to be adjusted. If I select 1 list element, and then adjust the spacing before or after in the Page Layout tab, this applies to the whole list, not the list element, which defeats the purpose.

  • Word 2007 Question

    Hi Team, While preparing a Word 2007 document, I made a mistake. (Not to say I don't have any other copy of the document) While formatting (as a try) I applied the style "Apply Style to Body to match selection". This caused the document to go totally in a wronfg format - having numbers even in tables. Have you ever faced this? Could you please tell how to correct it?   • How can I create a custom OpenOffice / LibreOffice Writer table AutoFormat scheme?

    None of the basic table AutoFormat schemes in LibreOffice Writer have both an alternation style defined and no sum column/row style defined. If they have alternation, they always seem to have sums. Because of this I'd like to define my own table scheme. What is the easiest way to accomplish this? A WYSIWYG isn't totally necessary. I am not scared of editing simple XML files as long as I have examples to work from, and if I don't have to edit base install files. If I can place them in a custom area or my user profile directory then that would be best. If there is a way to get the GUI Add functionality to properly recognize an alternation then that would also be helpful.

    I am having a hard disk in gpt partition style and Windows 8 is pre-installed in uefi mode. While trying to dual boot using usb bootable disk(using rufus,gpt partition style,fat32),it displays "Windows is loading files", then while displaying "Starting Windows" it hangs. So, I tried to install it inside Windows using setup.exe. Everything was running fine, but when it gets self restarted again, it got stuck at "Starting Windows". When restarted in Windows 8, it showed a htm file stating that "Windows cannot be installed on a computer using battery power. If the battery runs out of power during the installation, you might lose data. To continue the installation, plug in the computer's power adapter." I am sure that power adapter is connected. I Googled a lot on this, but I didn't get solution.

    I'm trying to get last modification date of a file with this command TM_LOCAL=`ls -l --time-style=long-iso ~/.vimrc | awk '{ print $6" "$7 }'` TM_LOCAL has value like "2012-05-16 23:18" after execution of this line I'd also like to check PIPESTATUS to see if there was an error. For example if file does not exists, ls returns 2. But $? has value 0 as it has the return value of awk. If I run this command alone, I can check the return value of ls by looking at ${PIPESTATUS[0]} ls -l --time-style=long-iso ~/.vimrc | awk '{ print $6" "$7 }' But $PIPESTATUS does not work as I've expected if I assign the output to a variable as in the first example. In this case, $PIPESTATUS array has only 1 element which is same as $? So, the question is, how can I get both $PIPESTATUS and assign the output to a variable at the same time?

    I'd like to use stylesheet instead of hard-coding HTML so that text within cells are aligned vertically, ie. text starts at the upper left-hand corner.     I have share my wamp over my personal LAN . (Server IP : 192.168.0.100) When I am trying to access wamp server it's working perfectly. But when I open website hosted on server using client machine (192.168.0.103) , it doesn't load CSS - Images and JS files. So I saw console and found that my browser is trying to load : localhost//mysite/css/style.css And failing to load resource. now when I try to load the same resource directly from browser using 192.168.0.100/mysite/css/style.css It's showing me css file ! Now I am confused how to solve this problem so that my browser load that css perfectly ! Please help me ! thanks in advance !

  • Change popup format for Kopete in Gnome (Ubuntu 10.04)

    After trialling Empathy which was included with Gnome/Ubuntu 10.04 I decided to go back to Kopete since I was losing chat messages. However, for some reason, Kopete is now displaying all popups in a big, ugly window with four options (ok, cancel, view, ignore, or something like that) that actually all seem to do nothing. I tried looking for options in Kopete to change the popup style to the nicer Gnome style one which goes up in the top-right of my desktop, but it doesn't seem to be possible with this release. So I had to resort to removing all popup messages from Kopete to prevent my screen being taking over by a popup requiring action for every incoming chat message. Unfortunately, this now means that I do not get any notifications when people message me - and so I can go a couple of hours without realising that they did. Anyone know how to get the nice, unobtrusive popups working in this version?
