• Tortoise SVN Icon Overlays Displaying Everywhere...Why?

  Update: So, this turns out to have nothing to do with Tortoise SVN. I use Mozy.com for off-site backups and their new version includes these icon overlays. They can be disabled via the config options...or see here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?p=1385433. Thanks @OS for the answer. Been using Tortoise SVN for some time on my Vista box. Within the last few days (and after recently upgrading to 1.5.4) the icon overlays are displaying on all files. My exclude path is: * My include paths are: C:\Users\jw\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\SVNProjects* C:\Users\jw\Documents\VB Projects\SVNProjects* I haven't touched those settings in months. Any ideas? Help. Thanks.

• transition of x-axis results in overflow

  First of all, no: this question is not about the (yet) ugly transition of the lines (I might open another one for that, though..). I'm displaying data in line charts and the user can select the time horizon. The x-axis then correspondingly transitions so as to fit to the changed time horizon. In attached image, e.g., the time horizon was 1 week and then I switched to 4 weeks. The number of ticks on the x-axis increases from 7 to 28, correspondingly. Question: How can I prevent the x-axis animation to display outside the svg container? As you can see, the additional dates fly in from the left and they are being animated far far outside the container. Any ideas? • Converting a JSP to a SharePoint webpart

  We have a large number of Java based servlets/portlets running in a BEA portal that we want to convert into SharePoint 2007 webparts. Many of the portlets use user preferences but the implementations are split between preferences being handled by the portlet directly and stored in a separate database from the portal. Others are using the BEA WebLogic API for user preferences. Three questions: Has anyone gotten a Java Servlet/JSP (compiled against JRE 1.4.2 and running on Tomcat 4.1) to run as a SharePoint 2007 webpart? How large of an effort was it in general (as in, was it measured in days/weeks/months)? Would it be easier to rewrite the portlet as native webparts at least as far as user preferences are concerned?

  Long before you practice writing readable code, what "magic numbers" you still remember up to this day? here's some of my list: 72 80 75 77 13 32 27 - up down left right enter space escape 1 2 4 128 - blue green red blink 67h 33h 17h - interrupt for EMS, mouse, printer function AH 9, interrupt 21 alt+219 for block ASCII alt+164 ñ 90 NOP 13 10 carriage return, line feed ascii 1 and 2 face, ascii 3 heart. no not this heart: <3 :-) debug -o72,10 -o71,12 clears the BIOS password. I don't know what those numbers mean, it's like a trade secret that gets shared with each other during college days. ascii 7 sounds a beep P.S. Somehow, remembering some of these magic numbers can help you in some tech problems, your keyboard is broken, the office pal's keyboard doesn't have accented characters. An anecdote, during college, one of my friend asked me how to remove the newlines in his Word document. Not having used Word so much then, I somehow "intuitively" guessed to find ^013 and replace it with blank. Well it works :-)

• WCF Callback Contract Fiddler Debugging

  I'm trying to debug a WCF self-hosted service utilizing callbacks. Every 1/2 I make a callback to a SL3 app to display the latest changes (yes, there are tons of changes every 1/2 second). There are 3 services, one has new data every 1/2 second, one has new data every second, and another has new data every hour. I've set all of my timeouts, Send, Receive, Open and Close to 2 days 23 hours and 23 minutes, but I still get time out errors on the service side when I go to issue the callback. I'm using Fiddler and I notice that my service that has new data every hour is still showing up every 10 seconds. Fiddlier shows a Body length of -1, then 10 seconds later it changes to 0 and the response is HTTP 200, but the overall elapsed time is 10 seconds. What's going on here?

• Virtual StringTree's hint windows are left out on the screen

  Hi, See this screenshot, in the middle it's the small hint windows that are generated by a TVirtualStringTree control and were left out on the screen, these hint windows will remain there until the application exits. the problem happens when the treeview's hint is shown and the mouse leaves quickly to the window next to it. Any idea about how to avoid this or how to clear those un-erased hint windows if it's difficult to avid this? Few days ago I asked a similar question, while the hint windows in the screenshots look the same, the are not the same problem. That problem, the hint text never shows and only that kind of uncompleted hint windows are shown; This problem, the hint text shows but the hint windows are not completely erased in a case (as I described above). • Error when trying to use PDO object

  EDIT: I'm going to put my code in here due to comments below. So sit tight for a few minutes ;-) Thanks! I'm an inexperienced php programmer and only found out about PDO a few days ago. I'm now trying to port my website code over to using PDO, but I am getting an error when I try to use the PDO object that I create. I'm using a CMS on my website, and it makes building page output kind of complicated, but I've tried to draw the structure of what is being called below: index.php -class myClass defined --method myFunction defined (it gets called on pageload & returns the page output) ---include file1.php ----require_once('mysql_connect.php') (creates pdo object) ----*I can use the pdo object here successfully* ----require_once('file2.php') -----require_once('mysql_connect.php') -----function myFunction2 defined ------*trying to use the pdo object here results in the error* The error I'm getting is: Fatal error: Call to a member function prepare() on a non-object in /home/rgcpanel/public_html/account/account_functions.php on line 147 Any idea what's going on?

• What ways can I put images in a grid-like format?

  I have about 12-15 images that I want to align together in a grid, with text under each image. I thought about using a table, but I hear that tables aren't the best way to go these days. I tried a few other things, but nothing seemed to work the way I wanted it to. Now we need to create a compiler using Java Code that will take a .exe file written in some txt editor and convert it to java byte code and run the code. • Google groups not finding discussion thread but regular google search does?

  I'm having a problem with google groups and finding my own discussion threads. I go to the google group (in my case Android developer group) web view and try to search for my thread by entering the extact title of my thread. But it doesn't appear in the search results. On the other hand, when I search for the same title in the regular google web search, I get the thread right on top of the result list. I thought it might take a while until the groups index all new threads, but still after a few days, it still wouldn't show up. Team Leader has the option to change the date of requested leave and to approve or reject the leave. Employee also has the option to change date of previously unapproved leaves or to cancel any of unapproved leave. In case of team leader, he can approve his own leaves. Management should be able to create categories of leaves like (Casual, Sick, Planned work, etc) and should be able to adjust the days allocated to each type of leave". I have identified these as entities for ERD 1) Employee(I think i dont need to make entity for Technical lead,since he is an employee) 2) LeaveHistory 3) LeaveCategory Plz correct me if the system need more classes or entities

In the spirit of bringing back a lost art, what are some tips that you know of for simple (or perhaps complex) changes to optimize C#/.NET code? Since it's such a broad thing that depends on what one is trying to accomplish it'd help to provide context with your tip. For instance: When concatenating many strings together use StringBuilder instead. If you're only concatenating a handful of strings it's ok to use the + operator. Use string.Compare to compare 2 strings instead of doing something like string1.ToLower() == string2.ToLower()

• VB.NET Application which can compile and run C programs

  These days I'm working on a VB.NET application which can be used to edit, compile and run C programs. Can someone tell me how I can call a cl.exe process from within my VB program and also that how do I run the program in the console widow itself. Presently I have only the editor ready. With that one can type in a program and save it with a ".c" extension. Now there are 2 buttons on my form - "Compile" and "Run". When the user clicks on the "Compile" button, the program should be passed to the cl.exe process and the errors should be displayed in another textbox or the DOS(black screen itself). And when the user clicks on the "Run" button, the ".exe" file which just got created should get executed.

• how to remove a few lines from a Unicode registry file using batch commands in Windows?

  Hi. I have a program who's generating some data in registry. I save it with "reg export HKCU\Software\ProgramName\Data data.reg" (Unicode format). I need to take it to other computer and import it there so the program from that computer could use the data. But I have to remove some text lines from data.reg. The text lines are easy to find because they contain some strings. Now I'm doing this manually (using Wordpad) every few days but maybe there is another way... Oh and I can't install other programs on these computers (the access is restricted) so I have to use batch/cmd files. What I tried so far: - redirecting the export to "con" but is visual only not in a variable; - using "for /F ..." but this works only with ANSI and removes blank lines. Can somebody please help me...? Thank you.

  I'm looking to see if there is an official enumeration for months in the .net framework. It seems possible to me that there is one, because of how common the use of month is, and because there are other such enumerations in the .net framework. For instance, there is an enumeration for the days in the week, System.DayOfWeek, which includes monday, tuesday, etc.. I'm wondering if there is one for the months in the year, ie.   I have a simple (actually simplified :) ) scenario that is possibly the cause for the headache I've been having for the last few days... My current application (that serves 100's of users) currently uses Oracle as the database. I have no stored procs (I wish actually). Now, I've been asked if the product will work if I migrate to IBM DB2 as the database. So, after taking Oracle for granted all this while.... and having re-read Tom's article on MVCC (Multiversion Concurrency Control) and going through this post stating that DB2 is not 'on the list' or 'just tip-toeing in the area' as it were... I know I can't be sure that the product will work with DB2 as is. Is there no hope.. or is there a nice disclaimer I could use.. ?

  I've been trying to solve this problem for a number of days now but I must be missing something. Known Variables: vi = Initial Velocity t = Animation Duration d = Distance The function I'm trying to create: D(t) = the current distance for a given time Using this information I want to be able to create a smooth animation curve with varying velocity (ease-in/ease-out). The animation must be able ease-in from an initial velocity. The animation must be exactly t seconds and must be travel exactly d units. The curve should lean towards the average velocity with acceleration occurring at the beginning and the end portions of the curve. I'm open to extra configuration variables. The best I've been able to come up with is something that doesn't factor in the initial velocity. I'm hoping someone smarter can help me out. ;) Thank you! p.s.   hey, i saw this on a site a couple of days ago and i cant seem to find it again. in any case, this is what was on the site: the page opened regularly when you entered the url. upon clicking one of the links on the page, it "transitioned" to the next page (there was a color change). and the url in the address bar was changed to reflect that. eg: if the background was blue on site.com, when clicking on the about link, the background would change to green and the browser would show site.com/about. and so on. also, if the url entered was site.com/about, the bg would be green and on cliking the home page, the site would transition from green to blue and browser would show site.com im interested in finding out how this was done. searching on google got me the meta-refresh tag, but the ffect was much more complex and worked on all browsers. is there any other method out there?

  I'd like to upload a few files to a http server. Basically what i need is some sort of a post request to the server with a few parameters and the files. I've seen examples of just uploading files, but didn't find how to also pass additional parameters. So the question would be what's the simplest and free solution of doing this? Does anyone have any file upload examples that i could study? I've been googling for a few hours, but (maybe it's just one of those days) couldn't find exactly what i needed. What i want to do is restrict users from accessing like i dont want them to go to www.mysite.com/uploads/ and see the files in there and it should show forbidden, but they should be able to download via my website, for example www.mysite.com/downloads.php?id=1 If thats not possible, how can i atleast not show them the directory index on /uploads How is it that file sharing websites does this?   Agile methodologies are rather prevalent these days, but I cannot seem to find much documentation on what metrics are most useful and why. I have found many more things saying that some traditional metrics like LOC and code coverage of tests are not appropriate, leaving two main questions: Why are those two (and other) metrics inappropriate? What metrics are best for Agile and why? Even with an Agile process, wouldn't you want to know how much code coverage you have with your unit tests? Or is it simply that this metric (and others) just are not as useful as other metrics like cyclomatic complexity and velocity?
