• Launchpad autobuild fails when trying to access Maven component

  I'm trying to build thrift as a package for the first time on Launchpad and it is failing. It appears that it is failing access repo2.maven.org for some reason. It may be that there is some access restriction but I'm not sure. I will note that the package successfully built locally. Link to build log. Search for the string "repo2.maven.org" and you will see that there is a java.net.UnknownHostException. The repo packages are here. PS. These packages are an update to the thrift package as packaged by the txAMQP team using v0.2.0 of thrift.

• Fedora 16 can connect to samba share using smbclient but not in nautilus 3.2.1

  I have a machine running Ubuntu 11.10 Server acting as a Samba server to share my home directory. Everything works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but on my Fedora 16 laptop, if I use Nautilus to try to access the share using smb://192.168.0.8/nathan in the location bar, it just has the loading cursor and does nothing. It never shows any errors, nothing. Using smbclient works just fine, but I'd like to get it working in Nautilus. I know that there can be problems with SELinux and Samba, so I created a file called booleans.local that contains samba_enable_home_dirs=1.   I'm attempting to install Nagios plugins on a Zimbra 8.0.2 server running CentOS 6.4, but have run into the following error when I run yum install nagios-plugins-all Error: Package: nagios-plugins-mysql-1.4.15-2.el5.x86_64 (epel) Requires: libmysqlclient.so.15()(64bit) Error: Package: nagios-plugins-pgsql-1.4.15-2.el5.x86_64 (epel) Requires: libpq.so.4()(64bit) Error: Package: nagios-plugins-mysql-1.4.15-2.el5.x86_64 (epel) Requires: libmysqlclient.so.15(libmysqlclient_15)(64bit) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest How can I install these libraries (libmysqlclient.so.15 & libpq.so.4)? Will installing these libraries possibly break Zimbra?

• DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

  I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time? Then, to make my local TeX Live installation work with the Ubuntu package management system, I followed the instructions on http://www.tug.org/texlive/debian.html.   I was searching a lot on the internet and couldn't find an exact answer. There are distros like Gentoo (or FreeBSD) which does not come with binaries but only with source code for packages (ports). The majority of distros uses binary backages (debian, etc.). First question: How much speed increase can I expect from compiled package? How much speed increase can I get from real world packages like apache or mysql? i.e. queries per second? Second question: Does binary package means it does not use any CPU instructions that was introduced after first AMD 64bit CPU? With the 32bit packages does it mean that the package will run on 386 and basically does not use most of the modern CPU instructions? Additional info: - I am not talking about desktop, but server environment. - I dont care about compile time - I have more servers, so speed increase more than 15% is worth for using source code packages - Please no flamewars. • F5 BigIP upgrade from 9.x to 10.x

  Having a few difficulties upgrading a Big IP 3400 from 9.4.8 to any version 10.x image. The following are the versions I've tried: 10.1.0.3341.0 10.2.2.763.3 10.2.3.112.0 10.2.4.577.0 To upgrade I'm running the following command: image2disk --format=volumes BIGIP-10.1.0.3341.0.iso Obviously replacing the version number with the relevant image I'm trying to upgrade to each time. The F5 reboots, and starts copying packages however after 30 seconds or so just stops copying. The cursor in the console is still flashing but no matter how long it's left, the package doesn't copy. It seems to be a different package with each version/image (but always the same package per version) at point of freezing, which I'm guessing is suggesting a space issue? I've checked free space on the device and it has over 2GB free at root which should surely be enough? If anyone has any advice or pointers, it would be kindly appreciated. Thank you

• Install php-fpm + php-mysql + MariaDB on Centos from repos

  I try to take CentOS 6.4 x64 and install nginx w/ php-fpm on it (and that's easy part, no problem at all), then add php-mysql package and MariaDB as a mysql drop-in replacement. And here I face the hang... I've added epel, nginx and remi repos, add priority=10 line to its .repo files, and now as I install MariaDB-server the dependency also brings me MariaDB's "common" package. Then, as I try to install php-mysql, I see file /usr/share/mysql/french/errmsg.sys from install of MariaDB-server-5.5.27-1.x86_64 conflicts with file from package mysql-libs-5.5.28-1.el6.remi.x86_64 warnings. If I deinstall MariaDB server, I'm able to install mysql-libs and php-mysql, but it won't allow me to install MariaDB later. Is there any way to escape that (infinite) loop? I believe the solution is simple but still can't see it. Please help to install php-fpm + php-mysql and MariaDB as DB server!

  I am using Driver Pack solution 12.3 to update my drivers. I used it and installed 55 drivers. I noticed that there are now several dozen new entries in add/remove programs under the name Windows Driver Package - Intel hdc, Windows Driver Package - Intel System, and Windows Driver Package - Intel USB with the driverpack solution logo next to them. When I hit uninstall for any of these, it says all devices using this driver will be removed, and I am scared of uninstalling anything I do not know about. I have no system restore points before I updated my driver. Will these extra driver packages slow down my computer or take up extra disk space? Can I uninstall them safely? I am using Windows 8, so refreshing the computer is an option.

When I tried to run it, it fails saying you need a higher version of SSIS even though the destination SSIS server is on 9.0.4211 level. then I digged in the package using business intelligence studio and saw that one of the package subtasks is "Transform data task" (the dts version) and the package fails to run that. The storage location for this dts task is set to "Embedded in Task". I didn't touch it. why didn't it convert this task to an SSIS data flow task? any help please? Thansk in advance

• How to install software packages on a shared Red Hat Linux host account without root access or rpm?

  I have a shared RHEL 4 host account where I do not have root privileges. I would like to install Git and Bash Complete in a way that they can be upgraded easily. To date, I've just been installing from source providing $HOME as a prefix to autoconf. Obviously this isn't ideal as I need to hunt down the files associated with the version I'm upgrading away from and delete them. I've tried using rpm but I just get -bash: rpm: command not found back so it's not available. I also looked into checkinstall but it looks like that requires rpm, dpkg, or Slackware's package manager to be available. Is there anything out there that can be used like a package manager without requiring root access or an existing package manager?

And now my issue I downloaded same package.tar.gz to the windows system then uploaded to another linux server, and tried same command tar -xvf package.tar.gz. but it getting tar: This does not look like a tar archive tar: Skipping to next header tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors as response.   I'm trying to install empathy. Current version has to be installed from source, but needs a list of things that have to be installed one by one. Previous version is in repository, but blinks (opens, then right after that, closes). Previous version of the previous version: apt-cache search -showpkg empathy shows general empathy information and a telepathy too, but not the rpm file name taking the rpm file name from a Google search result, apt-get install package=empathy-2.30.1-2pclos2010 says package package (twice, really) not found installing apturl, clicking the rpm file link, opening it with apturl, installation gui starts, but fails opening the rpm file with Synaptic doesn't work opening the rpm file with /usr/bin/apt-get doesn't work What now?

• Can't find netbooted for Kerrighed pxe boot with Ubuntu Lucid Server

  I'm following installation guides for pxe booting and kerrighed. I can't find the package nfsbooted for Ubuntu 10.04. Where did it go? Context: At work I have access to 8 mini-ITX PCs and am trying to build a cluster. My plans include trying Condor, GridGain, Hadoop, and recently Kerrighed has caught my eye. (I reaslise these are all for different kinds of things, I'm just evaluating). Ideally, I'd like to have all the nodes network boot from a single server, since that seems so much easier to manage, plus I can 'borrow' additional PCs for a while without touching their HD. I've been getting on great with Ubuntu Lucid Server (10.04), trying to follow the only guides I can find to get pxe booting (and ultimately kerrighed) to work. This guide is for Ubuntu 8.04 and this one is for Debian. They both refer to a package I can't seem to find, nfsbooted. Has this package been replaced? Am I doing something daft?

• opening offline sync files from a .CAB file

  OK, I have downloaded from Windows Live Spaces (don't know if this is useful, but might be) a .CAB file containing an Index.XML file and package.cab, package01.cab through to package12.cab. The index.XML simply has names of all the subsequent package.cab files and their offsets. The first package.cab has a single 26MB XML file which appears to be an OfflineSyncFile definition which I am guessing is the meta data for all the other packageXX.cab files. Now the question I have is how should i be going about extracting these things and piecing it all back together again. I have tried WinRAR, which extracts all 800MB for me into unnamed files and randomly named directories. I have also tried the standard extract in Windows Explorer with much the same resusts.

• How can I fix this configure error?

  I'm trying to build mosh from source on a SUSE10 machine and am getting the following error: checking for protobuf... no configure: error: Package requirements (protobuf) were not met: No package 'protobuf' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables protobuf_CFLAGS and protobuf_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. I downloaded the source to protobuf and installed it in a custom path as well. I'm not using a package manager for any of this and cannot for various reasons outside the scope of the question. I added that custom path to my PATH and rehashed. Typically, this is enough for configure but in this case its not doing the trick. I added the prefix for protobuf to PKG_CONFIG_PATH but am still hitting this error. What should I do next to get past this error?

• Repositories for CentOS that don't suck?

  I'm used to using ubuntu/debian repositories and they are great. I can apt-get just about any package and it'll be there. I have not found this on centos. I called my hosting company and they suggest I install atomic turtle since it's compatible with cPanel. This didn't work when I tried to install git. yum install git ... No package git available Repeat the same thing for just about any package, the default repositories are pathetic. So perhaps there are other repositories I can use. Can anyone suggest any?
