  • Java is open-source, so what?

    Hi all, I always here that Java being open-source is a big benefit, but I fail to see how Java being open-source should draw me to use it as opposed to .NET which is closed-source. This website has some Q&A sections (What is the significance of these developments to the industry? in particular) that give a little info, but is being free the only (or the biggest) advantage to Java being open-source? Since I am a beginner, have any of you pros noticed any major difference since the change was made?

E.g: xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss" must be: xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/" How can I achive that using the standard java XML APIs?

I am getting run time error as Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/CharSequence AS CharSequence is since 1.4 How can I come out of this problem? How exactly such code sharing can be done? Is it possible to release main application and multiple exchangeable plugins then discover them at runtime? What does source code looks like and what are advantages over "standard" intents calls from/to different APK packages?

I used it with Python standard client on ubuntu 9.10 For same query it's can give normal response or can give broken package like this: failed to read searchd response (status=0,ver=1,len=278,read=72) this problem appears with 50% probability.   • How to drop a primary key using ActiveRecord migrations

    Due to a mistake I forgot to add :id => false to a has_many :trough table creation migration. Now I reverted the association back to a has_and_belongs_to_many and ActiveRecord throws an exception complaining about the presence of the primary key. I couldn't find any reference on the ActiveRecord documentation so, do you know if there is any standard, clean way of doing it?

    Can someone give me an essential Wordpress Loop and explain to me what's happening with it? I'd like to put together some templates, but I don't do well with blackboxing. In other words, I'm fully capable of writing my own CMS, but when it comes to using someone else's and its arbitrary rules, I'm completely at a loss, and I just can't get my head around the standard loop Wordpress uses.     I didn't find an explicit answer to this question in the WiX Documentation (or Google, for that matter). Of course I could just write the appropriate registry keys in HKCR, but it makes me feel dirty and I'd expect this to be a standard task which should have a nice default solution. For bonus points, I'd like to know how to make it "safe", i.e. don't overwrite existing registrations for the file type and remove the registration on uninstall only if it has been registered during installation and is unchanged.

    It is possible to use CRX with VS 2010: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1441554/can-i-use-coderush-xpress-in-visual-studio-2010 Refactor Key works. (After assigning the shortcut) What doesn't work is QuickNav and QuickFileNav. The Standard Shourtcut for QuickFileNav is CTRL+ALT+F, which is conflicted with VS View.F#Interactive. But removing this shortcut or changing the shortcuts for QuickNav and QuickFileNav doesn't bring up the nav-windows. NextReference (TABULATOR) doesn't work Any solutions? Other issues?

  • acts_as_revisable 'loses' previous models created before migration

    I have the following the standard, regular post sample app. I created some posts then decided to introduce acts_as_revisable After following the instructions at http://github.com/rich/acts_as_revisable I see that the previous posts are not appearing in the Post.all call. However, if I use the console and do Post.find_by_sql("SELECT * FROM Post WHERE ID=1") the post shows up. Any ideas? Thanks

Is there a performance gain in using a ref or out parameter instead of the standard return value?     Hi, I have a list of rows in an excel sheet which I need to load as historical transactions into a table in my rails applications. I saved the excel file as a csv file. I tried using csv from the standard library but keep getting the following exception CSV::IllegalFormatError. Not sure how to even figure out where the problem lies.
