  • how do i use htaccess to make http requests work properly

    I currently have css and javascript file calls (amongst other things) like the following: href="/css/default.css" src="/js/ui_control.js" putting the preceding / in to make the files relative to the root. This works great when my page is in the root of the domain. However, I'm currently in the middle of transferring my site to a new hosting provider and as such have a temporary URL which is: HOST-IP/~username As such, all file calls are trying to be called from HOST-IP/css/default.css etc instead of within the ~username sub-folder. Of course I can wait until the domain name servers propagate but that's beside the point. How would I go about writing a rule in the .htaccess file that would redirect all file calls that start with a /, from going to HOST-IP/FILE-CALL, and instead to go to HOST-IP/~USERNAME/FILE-CALL. ? Any ideas?

    Many email clients don't like linked CSS stylesheets, or even the embedded <style> tag, but rather want the CSS to appear inline as style attributes on all your markup. BAD: <link rel=stylesheet type="text/css" href="/style.css"> BAD: <style type="text/css">...</style> WORKS: <h1 style="margin: 0">...</h1> However this inline style attribute approach is a right pain to manage. I've found tools for Ruby and PHP that will take a CSS file and some separate markup as input and return you the merged result - a single file of markup with all the CSS converted to style attributes. I'm looking for a Perl solution to this problem, but I've not found one on CPAN or by searching Google. Any pointers?     Hey! I have a Lightbox clone (colorbox), which works fine and has no real issues. What I would like is an extra arguement that would say: [pseudocode] if (linksRel == "lightbox1") { add stylesheet1 to this lightbox } else { add stylesheet2 to this lightbox } [/pseudocode] Currently, I have a page with a "colorbox.css" file attached and the" jquery.colorbox.js" file as well - But I want the JS file to import the required CSS dependant on what link was clicked... Urgh, does that make sense? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped!

    I created a new branch using this command: hg branch new_branch After the first commit to the new branch, the default branch becomes inactive. If this is pushed the central repository will have only one head which belongs to the new branch. When my colleague pushes his commits on the default branch, he will get this error: pushing to ssh://... searching for changes abort: push creates new remote heads! (did you forget to merge? use push -f to force) Is there anything bad about forcing the push? Why are remote heads bad? How do you work remotely on separate branches and push to one repository?

UPDATE - FIXED: per @Falmarri advice, i managed to resolve this issue. first of all, i'm no longer calling Login login = new Login(); to create a new login object. bad. bad. bad. no cookie. instead, when preparing to call .execute(), this tutorial suggests passing the applicationContext to the class the executes the AsyncTask, for my purposes, as shown below: CallWebServiceTask task = new CallWebServiceTask(); // pass the login object to the task task.applicationContext = login; // execute the task in the background, passing the required params task.execute(login); now, in onPostExecute(), i can get to my Login objects methods like so: ((Login) applicationContext).pushCreateNewOrChooseExistingFormActivity(); ((Login) applicationContext).showLoginFailedAlert(result.get("httpResponseCode").toString()); ... hope this helps someone else out there! especially iOS developers transistioning over to Android...

    In HTML & JS, how do you make a textfield that has grayed out text telling the user what the field is for that goes away when the user clicks on the field? For example, in firefox the search field in the top right hand side says which search engine it uses when there's nothing entered, then once you click it's an empty textfield, but if you leave it blank and remove focus from the textfield then the grayed out text is back again. Is there a name for this behavior? Also, is it possible to do in pure css without the use of js to do the on focus / on blur events?

The number of countdown clocks varies from day to day so I need to call javascript several times from within "while" code in php to produce different clocks. I don't know how to call the javascript several times and increment the variable cd1 within the javascript.   • Improving Javascript Load Times - Concatenation vs Many + Cache

    I'm wondering which of the following is going to result in better performance for a page which loads a large amount of javascript (jQuery + jQuery UI + various other javascript files). I have gone through most of the YSlow and Google Page Speed stuff, but am left wondering about a particular detail. A key thing for me here is that the site I'm working on is not on the public net; it's a business to business platform where almost all users are repeat visitors (and therefore with caches of the data, which is something that YSlow assumes will not be the case for a large number of visitors). First up, the standard approach recommended by tools such as YSlow is to concatenate it, compress it, and serve it up in a single file loaded at the end of your page. This approach sounds reasonably effective, but I think that a key part of the reasoning here is to improve performance for users without cached data. The system I currently have is something like this * All javascript files are compressed and loaded at the bottom of the page * All javascript files have far future cache expiration dates, so will remain (for most users) in the cache for a long time * Pages only load the javascript files that they require, rather than loading one monolithic file, most of which will not be required Now, my understanding is that, if the cache expiration date for a javascript file has not been reached, then the cached version is used immediately; there is no HTTP request sent at to the server at all. If this is correct, I would assume that having multiple tags is not causing any performance penalty, as I'm still not having any additional requests on most pages (recalling from above that almost all users have populated caches). In addition to this, not loading the JS means that the browser doesn't have to interpret or execute all this additional code which it isn't going to need; as a B2B application, most of our users are unfortunately stuck with IE6 and its painfully slow JS engine. Another benefit is that, when code changes, only the affected files need to be fetched again, rather than the whole set (granted, it would only need to be fetched once, so this is not so much of a benefit). I'm also looking at using LabJS to allow for parallel loading of the JS when it's not cached. So, what do people think is a better approach? In a similar vein, what do you think about a similar approach to CSS - is monolithic better?

  • jQuery Dialog theme not being applied

    I'm using jquery-1.4.2.min.js and jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js. According to Firebug, both minimized scripts have been loaded. They both appear in the dropdown list on Firebug's Scripts tab. The dialog is launching, but there's no background and so the text below it shows through, and there's no "window" stuff at all, no titlebar, no X button. Just the floating/draggable text with a -close- link at the top left corner. I was under the impression from reading these pages http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/ http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/ that the UI theme-driven appearance would be automatically applied to the dialog when it was invoked using this barebones call: $('#dialog').dialog() I would be grateful for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this.     Hey guys, How can I figure out which word is at the point where the user tapped on a UIWebView? I am able to detect the CGPoint for the tap (subclassing UIWindow like this), and I can actually get the DOM element on that point using javascript. But I know very little of javascript and DOM to figure out how can I actually get which word the user tapped on. Is that possible?   • Add class to elements which already have a class

    I have a group of divs which I'm dynamically generating when a button is clicked with the class, "brick". This gives them dimension and starting position of top: 0. I'm trying to get them to animate to the bottom of the view using a css transition with a second class assignment which gives them a bottom position: 0;. Can't figure out the syntax for adding a second class to elements with a pre-existing class. On inspection they only show the original class of, "brick".   • Find recipes that can be cooked from provided ingridients

    Sorry for bad English :( Suppose i can preliminary organize recipes and ingredients data in any way. How can i effectively conduct search of recipes by user-provided ingredients, preferably sorted by max match - so, first going recipes that use maximum of provided ingridients and do not contain any other ingrs, after them recipes that uses less of provided set and still not any other ingrs, after them recipes with minimum additional requirements and so on? All i can think about is represent recipe ingridients like bitmasks, and compare required bitmask with all recipes, but it is obviously a bad way to go. And related things like Levenstein distance i don't see how to use here. I believe it should be quite common task...

  • Ensuring Updated CSS/JavaScript on Client Side

    I'm trying to ensure that visitors of my ASP.NET MVC website always have the most-current CSS and Javascript (and not some older cached version). I tried to realize this by generating a seed value when the application domain starts, and automatically append it to the CSS and Javascript URLs (so now instead of /Content/All.js the link is /Content/All.js?549238 etc.). Unfortunately I just found out by debugging via Firebug that this causes now a full download request every time (the new "seeded" response is no longer cached at all, but I only wanted the first check to download the 'updated' version, but then cache again/only check if there is a difference). How can I achieve my goal, is there a better way of doing this? I need the client to always request the newest version, but then cache if no change happened. Edit: This appears to be related to the fact that my page is served over SSL. I asked a follow up question here regarding enabling clientside caching with SSL.

  • Why is JSON outputting out of order?

    I'm am trying to get a list of weather information for 8 locations. I'm using a weather API that accepts longitude and latitude and spits back json output with the weather info for that location. I feed the coords in order 0-7 but when json processes the data it comes back in a seemingly random order. I assume it's because some process faster than others and json is outputing what it gets back as it gets it. And it works, BUT for another reason wich I do not understand it enters another jquery file called jsloader.js of a plugin I use for picture gallery display. I suppose all the module jquery files get preloaded before the one im calling inside the template. it enters the function() in the jsloader.js instead of the one in my jquery file.     Image size is not automatically detected when using jquery resizable. Both Firefox and IE displays the image much smaller, and chrome show nothing at all. What are the main concerns (security, ease-of-configuration, ...)? I think the Windows Registry was not a bad idea, just the implementation didn't fullfill the promises. A common place for configurations including for example apache config, database config or mail server config wouldn't be a bad idea and might improve maintainability, especially if it has options for (protected) remote access. I once worked on a kernel based solution but stopped because others said that registries are useless (because the windows registry is)... what do you think?

    hi all, i'm having this simple plugin code: (function ($) { $.fn.tWeb = function () { var me = this; me.var1 = "foo"; this.done = function() { return this; } return this.done(); }; })(jQuery); var web = new jQuery.fn.tWeb(); alert(web.var1); works nice - alert(web.var1) is giving me "foo". my question: would it be possible extending this plugin by simply including another .js which has more code? eg. that i could ask for web.var2 i previously used a prototype function and could "extend" it by simply adding another js-include which refered to it eg. like tWeb.prototype.newfunction = function() how could this be done with jQuery? thx
