• How to increase virtual hard drive space

  I have a Microsoft Virutal PC hard drive (.vhd format) that's maxed out it's 16 gig hard drive space. What would be the best way to increase this diskspace? Booting into the machine (windows xp professional) and using the disk management snap in, I can see that the virtual drive has approximately 40 more unused gigs of space. Trying to use diskpart, I find out that Windows XP can't extend the boot partition. So I'm at an empass, any suggestions on how to increase the partion or to increase the actual virtual hard drive would be great. Note: The virtual hard drive is running on Windows 7 using XP mode.

  I'm attempting to create an inventory system using a vector implementation, but I seem to be having some troubles. I'm running into issues using a struct I made. • How can I prevent the warning No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding?

  Every time I initiate an ssh connection from my Mac to a Linux (Debian) I do get this warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding. This also happens for tools that are using ssh, like git or mercurial. I just want to make a local change to my system in order to prevent this from appearing. Note: I do have X11 server (XQuartz 2.7.3 (xorg-server 1.12.4)) on my Mac OS X (10.8.1) and it is working properly, I can successfully start clock locally or remotely.

• Is there any way to stop or pause Windows fake-raid re-synching?

  I have two physical disks, each one holds two volumes, they are Windows fake-RAID1. E.g.: Disk A: Partition1 Partition2 Disk B: Partition1-Mirror Partition2-Mirror After an unclean reboot, Windows started resynching these as expected. What was not expected, however, is that it started resynching both volumes at the same time. Both disks seek back and forth like crazy, and synching performance is horrible. Question: Is these any option to stop or pause synching of just one volume? I know I can put one of the disks offline, but that will stop synchronization of all volumes on that disk. Note: I have certain reasons why I need to torture myself with Windows RAID. I'm not interested in alternative RAID solutions right now.

• TCP failure on Solaris

  Hi All, I recently ran into a problem where a Solaris server could not establish a TCP socket on port 2126. From a packet capture I see this (note: A is a Solaris server, B is a router): A sends SYN to B B sends SYN, ACK to A Notice A (Solaris) does not acknowledge the SYN from B. Due to the business impact of the problem, I had to reboot the server to fix the problem. That said, I want to know the next time the problem occurs, what can I do to get a root cause (ie before server reboot)? Thanks in advance.

  Hello, I would like to know the flow for making modern 2D game artwork. How are the assets made nowadays? Bitmap? Vector-based? Hand-drawn and painted? Drawn digitally? Modeled in 3D and exported to bitmaps? I would like some information on programs as well, for fine looking art. Why does Flash's vector art style look good in most games? How do I make equivalent graphics with external tools? Or equaly good and not vector-based, anyway. Any special hints for animating? An answer oriented towards a one-man-army indie developer with little experience but some artistic sense would be appreciated! Not a complete dummy with paint programs, but also not a master at all, just need efficient ways to achieve results. Thanks. NOTE: Pixel art is not the goal of this question, nothing related to direct pixel manipulation should be brought up here, but you're free to do exactly that :)

  If we go on tour together with Oracle I think we have to have camunda BPM running on the Oracle WebLogic application server 12c (WLS in short). And one of our enterprise customers asked - so I invested a Sunday and got it running (okay - to be honest - I needed quite some help from our Java EE server guru Christian). In this blog post I give a step by step description how run camunda BPM on WLS. Please note that this is not an official distribution (which would include a sophisticated QA, a comprehensive documentation and a proper distribution) - it was my personal hobby. And I did not fire the whole test suite agains WLS - so there might be some issues. We will do the real productization as soon as we have a customer for it (let us know if this is interesting for you).   I've started getting an error on my windows machine when sending an email through Windows Mail, using Mobile Me: An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Test' Server Error: 503 Server Response: 503 5.7.0 TLS already in use. Server: 'smtp.me.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC65 Protocol: SMTP Port: 587 Secure(SSL): Yes I've checked and double-checked my credentials, and outbound mail settings, and they're correct. I've deleted and re-added the account, and I get the same issue. I'm able to receive email fine. Note - this issue only affects one PC - my laptop has no issues. Any suggestions on what Error 503 means, or how I would fix this?

  Hey all, I'm performing a test configuration of System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, on a system prepared with Sql Server 2008 R2. Unfortunately, the Scom 2007 R2 prerequisites verification program seems to be detecting exact versions of Sql Server, and not simply a minimum version, like it claims: "System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 requires SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition with SP1 and above or SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition with SP1 and above. Note: Operations Manager 2007 R2 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse or Audit Collection database on a 64-bit operating system." I had hoped that this was just a helper tool that was assisting in getting me off the ground, but unfortunately it seems as if it's actually used as a gate for the installation to proceed. Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to fool the installer into thinking that it has a proper version, or otherwise alert it to my valid configuration?

• Windows screen shots via command-line SSH session

  I've browsed the handful of "screen capture" queries here, but I was unable to find anything which addressed my specific need. I'm looking for a command-line tool that I can run via remote SSH connection (by way of the cygwin sshd daemon). There are several to choose from, but the few I've tried (ImageMagick, nircmd, and MiniCap) all result in a blank screen. I assume that this is due to the remotely logged in user not having a proper graphical console session running. The goal here is automate screen capture and retrieval of the main system console (what one would see if they were looking at the physical monitor) through the use of ssh script from a Unix host: ssh user@windowshost "screencap --output /tmp/console.jpg" scp user@windowshost:/tmp/console.jpg /some/destdir Note that these must be done on demand, so polling a remote directory that has snapshots dumped periodically will not work. Bonus points for programs that are open source and have a portable install (so I don't need to RDP/VNC into the machine to run a graphical installer).

I'm tired from searching always in the regular way: X Technology vs Y Technology. I'm tired from peoples' biased opinions and usually I don't find a fair comparison. I have decided to put my question here about how can I compare them so you may identify to me the main standards for comparisons so I can compare them by myself and becoming able to choose the technology that is appropriate for the project I will develop. Note: in web development technologies I mean server side languages (e.g. PHP). One important requirement for me that can be defined as major one is cost efficiency and I mean that I don't care about the cost in the near future or the current cost, but what is more important for me is the cost in the future. If, for example, the site becomes one of the most 100 visited sites.   So, how can I compare the cost of different technologies for a future status of a site (such as being very famous site) so I can scale my option easily without missing a good technology like what happened with some sites when they chose not the most effective tool.

  Can SATA be used to connect two computers together, just like a crossover Ethernet cable would do ? I know SATA has no "networking" features and even though a controller may have multiple ports, the drives don't "see" each other, and that in SATA one device acts as the host (the computer) and the other device is some kind of "client" (the storage drive). But still, did anyone attempt to make a kernel module that would make one computer appear as a "client" (so that the host's SATA controller detects it as a standard hard drive) and then set up like a pseudo-Ethernet link or a very high speed serial link (and then run pppd on it and do networking) ? Note : I know this is an unprofessional and totally stupid idea, I'm just asking out of curiosity.

• Why is my keyboard acting like the Ctrl key is pressed when I hit an F key?

  So, I'm gradually getting the hang of the Kinesis Advantage Pro keyboard that my wife bought me for Christmas. I love it so far. But something very strange happened today. (Note: I actually have no idea if this problem has anything to do with the Kinesis keyboard per se. All I know is that I never encountered this problem until after replacing my old keyboard with the Kinesis.) It seems that if I press an F key (e.g., F2), the computer starts acting like I'm holding down the Ctrl key. For example if I click on a link in my web browser, it now opens in a new tab. Or if I hit A all the text in the document I'm editing gets selected. This behavior persists until I manually hit the Ctrl key again. Has anyone seen anything like this before? What could cause such behavior?

  Using Java/Slick 2D, I'm using the mouse to rotate a sprite on the screen and the directional keys (in this case, WASD) to move the spite. Forwards and backwards is easy, just position += cos(ang)*speed or position -= cos(ang)*speed. But how do I get the sprite to move left or right? I'm thinking it has something to do with adding 90 degrees to the angle or something. Any ideas? • Batch OCR for many PDF files (not already OCRed) ?

  Hello, I use Google Desktop Search (I am on Vista) and not all my PDF files are recognized in my archive folder. It is normal as "PDF files that contain scanned images" are not indexed (http://desktop.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=90651) So I would like to OCR many of my PDF files that are not already OCRed. My goal : I give the program a folder and it search alone in the subfolders the PDF files that need to be converted into PDF-OCRed files. Note: In the past, if a PDF file was password protected, I removed the password with another batch (paying) tool: verypdf.com "pwdremover" Any (not too much expensive) idea ? I already tried : Finereader 6 pro on xp at the time, but there was no batch processor included... Paperfile paperfile.net which uses Tesseract code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/.   On a similar note to this question, I recently booted Ubuntu to recover a Windows partition, but couldn't in any way get the keyboard to register. I recall back in 8.x that you could easily reach the on-screen keyboard (Virtual Keyboard?) via "Assistive Technologies". It seems to have disappeared since 9.x. For future reference, how can I easily get to it? Recall that in this scenario I won't have a keyboard to enter terminal commands (e.g. to install xkbd or something of the like).
