  • After upgrade to Lucid, computer doesn't respond to clicks or pressed keys until X restart

    I upgraded to Lucid today, and after the update the display is "frozen". I can move the cursor, but I cannot click on anything, nor does it respond to any keys. The only way to fix it is to SSH into the machine (which, by the way, works just fine), and kill and start X. Then I'm taken back to the login screen and everything works. This happens every time I boot. Let me know if there are more details that I can provide.

    So, I have an ftp account setup correctly and it connect just fine. However, when I go to the root directory of the website (I can see "httpdocs" and "conf" and other folders), I can't make a new directory or go into the "conf" directory. I'm sure I need to edit permissions, but how can I do that?

  • Has anyone managed to virtualise Windows 7 on a physical disk?

    I have Windows 7 installed on a partition and running fine, but I want to access them from my Ubuntu installation with VirtualBox. I have created the virtual disk file and everything, but Windows bluescreens after a bit of loading with error 0000007B (it can't find the disk or something). Has anyone managed to solve this problem?

    Our internal website links to Excel files on a network-mapped drive. The links specify the filename and worksheet to open, in the following format (path and link information omitted): ExcelFileName#'SheetName'!$A$1 This works fine with Excel 2003, but we're moving to Excel 2007, which won't even open the file if that extra information is present. I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on whether this feature has been removed (or the syntax changed) in 2007. Any help will be highly appreciated!

  • Windows 7 VPN stops web browser

    Hi, I've just installed Windows 7 RTM and setup Windows VPN to work office. It all works fine except, when the VPN is connected, regular web access stops working eg: local web browser can't connect to anything. Disconnect VPN and web works again. I've tried re-ordering the priorities of network adaptors with no luck. I'm not sure where to look next. Any ideas? Brad

How do I configure the web interface to default to the external IP address of the box instead of its internal LAN IP?

    i created a .bat script to perform daily folder compression. it is working fine when i double click the .bat file. However, it doesnt work when i include it in window scheduler.   • Windows 7 on Laptop: Show 3 power Profiles instead of just 2

    The only thing I miss from Vista on W7 is that, you can click the batery icon and select one of three power profiles without having to open the Energy option Window. Can I archieve this on W7 Without having to install a third party tool? I have tried one, but with so many bugs and problems, but I guess there are maybe one tool out there that works fine.   • Internet Explorer wont open docx files, saves them as zip

    I have several docx documents on an Intranet for my work, but IE8 refuses to open them, instaed only saving them as a zip (filename_docx.zip). This seems to be only an IE8 problem (surprise, surprise!) as both FF and Chrome open the documents just fine. Unfortunately as this is work based, I cannot simply drop IE as I would, in favour of a decent browser. Does anybody know how to fix this issue in IE? Thanks.

    I'm remotely investigating issue with my friend's WIN XP computer. The browsers (Chrome and IE) won't show any pages but message with err_connection_reset in details. I've tried to perform "telnet google.com 80" and send there "HEAD / HTTP/1.0" from console and everything went fine, but browsers refused to give me anything. I've checked for presence of firewalls and proxy servers in the settings, but nothing seems to be there. What else to check?

    I'm trying to install SQL Compact 3.5 SP2 after I've installed SQL 2012 RC0, on a x64 Windows 7. The x86 installer goes through fine. The x64 installer fails, with the error: "Error 25543.Failed to save changes to XML file c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config, system error: -2147024864" Note the \CONFIG (double backslash) where there should be a single backslash... any ideas why this is happening and how to solve it?

I tried it at work just to test that the WiFi on the Netbook does actually work and it was fine (if a bit slow) It can see the connection, and the signal, tries to "Associate" with my home network but "Fails" it will sometimes retry Encryption is set to TKIP Authentication WPA-PSK EAP Type TLS I have tried all sorts of other settings but there seems to be very little to try??     I've just installed an Ubuntu Lucid 64bit image (from Stacklet) as a Xen DomU, running under Xen 3.2.1 on Centos 5.2 64bit. Everything is working fine, except my logs are flooded with: /dev/hvc0: No such file or directory I tried creating the device with mknod /dev/hvc0 c 229 0 but the message just changes to: /dev/hvc0: cannot open as standard input: No such device or address Any hint on what I could try? :(

  • One google IP address is failing. Is there a way to force a switch to different one?

    The google ip address 74.125.53.100 is failing. I know no one would believe this so I did an online ping: As this image shows one of the IP addresses for Google is failing. But there are others. If I type them in then I can get to Google just fine. But when I try to search, Google reverts back to the broken IP. Is there any way for me to say "I want to do a search with one of the working IP addresses"?

    Laptop: HP Compaq 6710b I can boot from usb just fine with the following usb flash drives: Cruzer micro 4GB HP 4GB The flash drive that will not boot: Flash Voyager 8GB To knock out variables I did the following: Using Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool I performed a low level format Full erase with Flash Memory Tookit In windows 7 I formated the drive to fat32 Used USB-Boot-Tester to write to the drive Also used uNetbooting with various distros to see if that would make a difference My guesses on what could be preventing the drive from booting: The laptop does not support booting to usb flash drives larger than 4GB The drive is defective in some way
