• Postfix log.... spam attempt?

  I have some weird entries in my mail.log. What I'd like to ask is if postfix is avoiding correctly (according with the main.cf attached below) what seems to be relay attempts, presumably for spamming, or if I can enhance it's security somehow. • My Expert F# Book has now arrived!

  So it has finally arrived from Amazon. Expert F# by Don Syme, Adam Granicz & Antonio Cisternino. I got a note from the post office yesterday that I needed to collect a package from their offices. After paying a 10% customs fee (that I wasn’t expecting) I had my new Yellow & Black F# Book… it’s so shinny. Trust my luck though – I have a few university assignments due this week as well as a crazy week of work so it has been sitting on my desk for a day and I haven’t managed to get into it. Eventually I managed to take a few minutes this evening to page through it and it looks really good. I can’t wait! So my goal this week is to cover Chapter 2 (by the end of the weekend) and put the appropriate posts up. F# is slowly working on me but I am keen to get a deeper understanding of the language which I am hoping this book will help me achieve.

• jquery Ajax call resulting in Undefined Error in Firefox

  Hi I've been pulling my hair out for the last few hours with this problem. And the googling has been hampered by the very vagueness of this. So let me apologise for that first. Basically I'm using jquery and ajax (with C#) to return data from the backend and display that to the screen. The code works perfectly for firefox and IE. But when the data gets too large (??) (1500+ table rows) all I get is an undefined popup. Debugging in firefox (3.6) it doesn't even go into the success method. Worse still it doesn't even go into the error method. A lot of superfluous information there, but I'd rather show everything I'm doing. When a staff user translates the object into a different language (e.g. "fr"), then the page must be visible in the french version as well. If an object is not translated in the visitor's currently selected language (e.g. "en"), then calling the objects url shall raise a 404 Error (or even better a notice that the object is only available in the languages "de" and "fr", and the visitor might be able to select one of the languages) My staff users are working in the admin interface, so the multilingual application must support this as well. I don't really care whether the multilingual app uses a single table with many fields (like title_en, title_de, title_fr) or a foreign key to a related table (as it is implemented in django-multlingual). I only want it to have a good admin interface and no "default" language, because some content might be available just in "de", and some other just in "fr" and "en". And the most important issue of course is compatibility with Django 1.2.x. What are your experiences and preferred apps, and why?

• Magic Methods in Python

  Howdy, I'm kind of new to Python and I wonder if there is a way to create something like the magic methods in PHP (http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.overloading.php#language.oop5.overloading.methods) My aim is to ease the access of child classes in my model. I basically have a parent class that has n child classes. These classes have three values, a language key, a translation key and a translation value. The are describing a kind of generic translation handling. The parent class can have translations for different translation key each in different languages. E.g. the key "title" can be translated into german and english and the key "description" too (and so far and so on) I don't want to get the child classes and filter by the set values (at least I want but not explicitly, the concrete implementation behind the magic method would do this). I want to call parent_class.title['de'] # or also possible maybe parent_class.title('de') for getting the translation of title in german (de). So there has to be a magic method that takes the name of the called method and their params (as in PHP). As far as I dug into Python this is only possible with simple attributes (_getattr_, _setattr_) or with setting/getting directly within the class (_getitem_, _setitem_) which both do not fit my needs. Maybe there is a solution for this? Please help! Thanks in advance!

• Ruby Iconv works with irb and ruby debugger but not in a unit test

  I'm running Ruby 1.8.7 with Rails 2.3.5 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. I've written a method that should take a string like this, "École À la Découverte" and output a file-system name like this "ecole_a_la_decouverte": (Iconv.new('US-ASCII//TRANSLIT', 'utf-8').iconv "École À la Découverte").gsub(/[^\w\s-\—]/,'').gsub(/[^\w]|[_]/,' ').split.join('_').downcase When I test this line in my code, the test always fails saying that "cole_la_dcouverte" is unequal to "ecole_a_la_decouverte". The odd thing is that if I insert a debugger line and use the debugger console the test passes. As well, running this line manually in irb seems to work. Does anyone know what's going on and why this test is failing? My only thought is that including the debugger or irb somehow adds more support for UTF-8 but I'm at a loss to figure out where to go next. Thanks in advance!

• Why is my javascript function sometimes "not defined"?

  Problem: I call my javascript function, and sometimes I get the error 'myFunction is not defined'. But it is defined. For example. I'll occasionally get 'copyArray is not defined' even in this example: function copyArray( pa ) { var la = []; for (var i=0; i < pa.length; i++) la.push( pa[i] ); return la; } Function.prototype.bind = function( po ) { var __method = this; var __args = []; // sometimes errors -- in practice I inline the function as a workaround __args = copyArray( arguments ); return function() { /* bind logic omitted for brevity */ } } As you can see, copyArray is defined right there, so this can't be about the order in which script files load. I've been getting this in situations that are harder to work around, where the calling function is located in another file that should be loaded after the called function. But this was the simplest case I could present, and appears to be the same problem. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, so I do suspect some kind of load-timing-related problem. But I have no idea what. @Hojou: That's part of the problem. The function in which I'm now getting this error is itself my addLoadEvent, which is basically a standard version of the common library function. @James: I understand that, and there is no syntax error in the function. When that is the case, the syntax error is reported as well. In this case, I am getting only the 'not defined' error. @David: The script in this case resides in an external file that is referenced using the normal <script src="file.js"></script> method in the page's head section. @Douglas: Interesting idea, but if this were the case, how could we ever call a user-defined function with confidence? In any event, I tried this and it didn't work. @sk: This technique has been tested across browsers and is basically copied from the prototype library.

I have a Nexus One and I don't have this problem. I don't know if this is a problem of memory or something. Based on the API: A PendingIntent itself is simply a reference to a token maintained by the system describing the original data used to retrieve it. This means that, even if its owning application's process is killed, the PendingIntent itself will remain usable from other processes that have been given it. So, I don't know why widget stop working, if Android doesn't kill the PendingIntent by itself, what's the problem?
