• Cisco ASA: How to route PPPoE-assigned subnet?

  We've just received a fiber uplink, and I'm trying to configure our Cisco ASA 5505 to properly use it. The provider requires us to connect via PPPoE, and I managed to configure the ASA as a PPPoE client and establish a connection. The ASA is assigned an IP address by PPPoE, and I can ping out from the ASA to the internet, but I should have access to an entire /28 subnet. I can't figure out how to get that subnet configured on the ASA, so that I can route or NAT the available public addresses to various internal hosts. My assigned range is: 188.xx.xx.176/28 The address I get via PPPoE is 188.xx.xx.177/32, which according to our provider is our Default Gateway address. They claim the subnet is correctly routed to us on their side. How does the ASA know which range it is responsible for on the Fiber interface? How do I use the addresses from my range? To clarify my config; The ASA is currently configured to default-route to our ADSL uplink on port Ethernet0/0 (interface vlan2, nicknamed Outside). The fiber is connected to port Ethernet0/2 (interface vlan50, nicknamed Fiber) so I can configure and test it before making it the default route. Once I'm clear on how to set it all up, I'll fully replace the Outside interface with Fiber. • Programmatic use of ARP

  I have a need for some C or C++ code, compilable under Linux, to be able to take a list of IP addresses of some arbitrary number of remote hosts machines and obtain a ethernet MAC address for each one. These host machines may be on the same subnet or they could be on a different subnet behind a router. Its OK if the MAC address of some or all of the remote hosts is the address of the interface on the router. Ultimately, I want to hand off the IP address and MAC address to an FPGA who will use these pieces of information to format and send UDP/IP packets over ethernet to the hosts. Obviously, the FPGA will also be given its own MAC address and IP address to fill in the source MAC and source IP addresses in the packets. Is there some code I can be pointed to that can create and broadcast ARP packets to these remote machines and receive back the ARP response packets such that the destination MAC addresses can be extracted?

  I am having some issues with Entity Framework in VS2010 The problem I'm getting is described very well here... http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/adonetefx/thread/cacf6a76-09a8-4c90-9502-d8b87c2f6bea It's basically happening when a Foreign key is pointed at the primary key of another table...but if I take off the StoreGeneratedPattern as "Identity", then it tries to insert a value into the identity field ** EDIT So, what it seems to be is that EF4 can't handle a null relationship when the primary key is set to StoreGeneratedPattern="Identity". If I create a FK pointing to this primary key, and make it nullable (effectively creating a 0...M relationship), then it throws this compilation error. Removing StoreGeneratedPattern="Identity" fixes the issue, but causes issues elseware It works if the foreign key is set to not nullable

Is there any way to flatten this, so the JAR files appear top-level under WEB-INF/lib, regardless of the directories specified in the patterns? I looked at mapper but it seems you cannot use them inside lib.

  I started getting 404s showing up in my Google Webmaster's Tools from a site linking to a specific category but with odd characters at the end of the url. So Something like this: http://example.com/category/puppies%EF%BC%9A.textwidget%E8%A6%81%E7%B4%A0%E7%B7%A8%E9%9B%86 Google Webmaster says that there are about 120 of these links and I can imagine there will be more to come. What is the best way to handle these links from an seo point-of-view? I have heard 301 redirecting too many links at one time can cause Google to ding the site but I don't want this site to continue posting broken links. Any help on this would be appreciated.

• .NET app - Should we use SQL Server and duplicate some reference data from an external Oracle DB? Or use Oracle and have a DB link?

  We're looking to migrate some existing Excel/Access processes into a new system which will provide the users with a Silverlight frontend to run and view the reports instead of using MS Access. The initial idea was to have SQL Server 2008 as RDBMS. The problem is that we've got some static data such as country codes, counterparties, etc which live in an existing Oracle DB. Since we do not want to duplicate that data (if possible), we were thinking of having a DB link between SQL Server and Oracle, but our firm does not allow that. So the options are either duplicate the data or use Oracle as RDBMS - surprise, the firm does allow DB links between Oracle databases. The initial idea was also to use WCF RIA Services, Entity Framework, etc which we're not sure they play well with Oracle, that's why it was decided to go with SQL Server in the first place. Would you advise to go for Oracle so that we can just link the static data? Or use SQL Server 2008 and replicate it because it's "safer" to stay within the Microsoft land? To use or not to use Entity Framework and WCF RIA Services at all? Regards. UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your answers. Nothing is set in stone yet. We'll try to import the data instead of linking, as if the other DB goes down, our system can still carry on. We're likely to use SQL Server just because most developers are more experienced with it. Even if we used RIA Services, we can swap out the Data Access Layer and use other frameworks such those mentioned below.

  I'm trying to get the def wfsc_pod1 and wfsc_ip into the same def. I'm not quite sure how to approach the problem. I want wfsc_pod1 to display all the information for name, subnet and gateway. Then wfsc_ip shows the ip addresses below it. I also get a None value when I run it as it. Not sure why.   So, we have an ASP.Net application - fairly standard - and in there are lots of updatepanels, and postbacks. On some pages we have <ajax:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender ID="ae" runat="server" TargetControlID="updatePanel" BehaviorID="UpdateAnimation"> <Animations> <OnUpdating> <FadeOut Duration="0.1" minimumOpacity=".3" /> </OnUpdating> <OnUpdated> <FadeIn minimumOpacity=".5" Duration="0" /> </OnUpdated> </Animations> </ajax:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender> Which basically whites out the page when a postback is going on (but this clashes with modal dialog grey backgrounds). In some cases we have a progressupdate control which just has a spinny icon in the middle of the page. But none of them seem particularly nice and all a bit clunky. They also require a lot of code in various places around the app. What methods do other people use and find effective?

• Passing windows credentials through web application, to WCF

  I've checked other questions, but I can't find a working answer I have a .Net web application which successfully takes on the callers windows credentials (Thread.CurrentPrincipal is my windows user). Within that app, I call to a WCF service, but my windows identity isn't passed up. • One-line expression to map dictionary to another

  I have dictionary like d = {'user_id':1, 'user':'user1', 'group_id':3, 'group_name':'ordinary users'} and "mapping" dictionary like: m = {'user_id':'uid', 'group_id':'gid', 'group_name':'group'} All i want to "replace" keys in first dictionary with keys from second (e.g. replace 'user_id' with 'uid', etc.) I know that keys are immutable and i know how to do it with 'if/else' statement. But maybe there is way to do it in one line expression?

• How can I use a carriage return in a HTML tooltip ?

  Hi, I'm currently adding verbose tooltips to our site, and I'd like (without having to resort to a whizz-bang jQuery plugin, I klnow there are many!) to use carriage returns to format the tooltip. To add the tip I'm using the 'title' attribute. I've looked around the usual sites and using the basic template of: <a title='Tool?Tip?On?New?Line' >link with tip</a> I've tried replacing the '?' with: <br /> &013; / &#13; \r\n Environment.NewLine (I'm using C#) Neither work. • Is there an ORM that allows a "plugin" to extend the database?

  So, I've been searching for the answer to this, but I can't find anything I have an Entity Framework Model (MyModel1) - for now, we'll say this contains a "Users" table It's part of a big app, that has a references to an "Addresses" project The addresses project contains an Entity Framework Model (MyModel2), this contains a Users table, and an Addresses table (pointing to the same database. The main app has a control that edits the user, and in that control it has an "addresses" control which actually exists in the "Addresses" project. To make this work, the User control passes the User object down to the addresses control, however, as the User that's been passed belongs to MyModel1 and not MyModel2, another User object has to be loaded up, then it can be used. This isn't ideal as I've had to load up the User twice. Is there a way of say, MyModel2 extending MyModel1, which effectively just adds a relationship to "User". Or is there an ORM that would handle this better? Or even a design pattern that would handle this better?

• Is it possible to rate limit based on host headers? i.e. not just on ip address

  I have a web service endpoint that I am building where people will post an xml file to, and it will really get pounded with over 1K requests per second. Now they are sending in these xml files via http post, but a good majority of them will be rate limited. The problem is, the rate limiting will be done by the web application by looking up the source_id in the xml, and if it is over x requests per minute, it will not be processed further. I was wondering if I could do rate limit checking earlier in the processing somehow and thus save the 50K file going threw the pipeline to my web servers and eating up resources. Could a load balancer make a call out to verify rate usage somehow? If this is possible, I could maybe put the source_id in a host header so even the XML file doesn't have to be parsed and loaded into memory. Is it possible to just look at host headers and not load up the entire 50K xml file into memory? I really appreciate your insights as this takes more knowledge of the entire tcp/ip stack etc.
