uh-oh windows mobile threading issues!

specifically WM6x, winCE5x Now my current understanding from trawling the msdn etal is that the IMAPIAdviseSink::OnNotify callback can be made from any old thread; from (ce)mapi or perhaps even from a third-party service provider. Under WM6x, i cannot seem to coax an in-thread response by invoking HrThisThreadAdviseSink, since while this function is declared in mapiutil.h, a definition appears not to exist (in cemapi.lib or wherever??) ~But i notice that all the OnNotify callbacks i get, derive from windows messages that i am receiving on my thread (=looks to me like an in-thread implementation in any case under cemapi)... So, can anyone confirm that this is infact always the case -or am i just getting lucky right now? ah, i should add that my advise source is IMAPISession::Advise (ActiveSync) erm i should also say that i might have cross-posted this on the msdn forum -but they're mostly numptys over there,,

How to auto create a JMS topic/queue on JBoss in a portable and per-application way?

It's simple: I have an MDB and an EJB that sends messages to a topic (or queue). JBoss complains that the topic is not bound to the JNDI context. I want to have the topic/queue to be automatically created at best, or at least to have a standard way to define it, per application (say, in ejb-jar/META-INF) this question and this blogpost show us how to do it in an application server specific way. This surely works, but: I want to use the @MessageDriven annotation I want the setting not to be global for the application server I want the setting to be portable

How can I implement incremental (find-as-you-type) search on command line?

I'd like to write small scripts which feature incremental search (find-as-you-type) on the command line. Use case: I have my mobile phone connected via USB, Using gammu --sendsms TEXT I can write text messages. I have the phonebook as CSV, and want to search-as-i-type on that. What's the easiest/best way to do it? It might be in bash/zsh/Perl/Python or any other scripting language. How do you write a consistent UI Automation for MS? MSAA & UI Automation don't seem to overlap.

Working on a general Automation tool, considering moving from Win32 Message hooks to .net UI Automation, however the feature set of UI Automation doesn't cover all we have in Win32 and still doesn't seem to support all the GUI on Windows. One such example is Windows Live Messenger. Windows Live messenger 2009 is still using the older DirectUIHwnd to draw the gui. This means that you can't use windows messages to send to the controls, because the controls don't have their own HWND. It also seems to defeat the new .net UI Automation framework though the documentation seems to make out as if it can be joined in the UI Automation and Microsoft Active Accessibility document. Looking at MS Accessibility pointed to Active Accessibility 2.0 SDK Tools which showed that MSAA can interact with the contents. Is there some trick to getting the older MSAA technology that UI Automation seems to be trying to replace to actually work with UI Automation? I'd rather not have multiple solutions trying to automate the same windows for windows unlike Windows Live Messenger where each of these techniques is valid and will work.

WebSocket support on mobile devices

For an Android multiplayer game's communication between players I'm using a WebSocket server and TooTallNate's Java library on the client side to enable WebSocket support in the Android app. So just to point it out clearly, WebSocket support in mobile browsers is not important to me. Unfortunately, users report that they're experiencing problems such as connection failures or unreceived messages. Is that a general problem of WebSockets on mobile devices (blocked ports, firewalls, mobile Internet connection) or is that probably a flaw in the client side code? Do you have experience with WebSocket client libraries such as the one above? I've just discovered autobahn.ws for Android - but I don't know if it's worth switching from my current library (see above). What about WAMP? Is WebSocket technology not exactly the adequate solution so that I should use the sub-protocol (?) WAMP?

Visual Studio 2008 Create Word 2007 Template Project Crashes

I've got this weird crashing happening when creating a C# Word 2007 Template Project in Visual Studio 2008. The IDE tells me that it's creating the project (it does create the solution and C# vsproj as well as the dotx and cs files). Then the IDE just crashes - no errors, messages, etc. When I try devenv /SafeMode it still doesn't work. I've also tried devenv /log but I don't really see any smoking guns. I have VS2008 SP1 and VSTO 3.0 SP1 installed. Anybody know why this is occurring or more importantly, how I can get it to stop?

How can I expose a service bus by a wcf service to be consumed by a silverlight client

In a Silverlight application, instead of consuming and writing (wcf) wrappers around messages that finally get sent to the bus, I want to send use my message bus as directly as possible. My idea was to expose the service bus directly as a wcf service, or, in other terms, I want to bidirectionally pub/sub over the wire. Has this been done already? Is bi-directionality doable at all? After all, we are (are we restricted to that?) in the http domain? Lots of questions. Some head start would be greatly appreciated! I am in .NET land, with using Rhino Service Bus, but the pattern should apply to different platforms.

Using ModalAlert from cookbook - app does not load

I'm using iphone cookbook code to prompt a user for text in a UIAlertView. The cookbook code is available at http://github.com/erica/iphone-3.0-cookbook-/tree/master/C10-Alerts/03-Soliciting%20Text/ In my AppDelegate, applicationDidFinishLaunching(), I invoke as below NSString *str = [ModalAlert ask:@"what is your name?" withTextPrompt:@"ATTUID"]; But my app does not finish loading at all. I get a black screen indefinitely. There are no messages in the console. I tried creating just a UIAlertView with UITextField in the above function and it displays properly. (commenting out her code) Commenting out "CFRunLoopRun()" also loads the app. I'm probably doing something stupid but can't seem to figure it out.

JSF and Ajax4JSF on WebSphere 6.1 --> Problem with Form Submission

Has anyone setup JSF1.1 with Ajax4JSF on websphere 6.1 ? I followed the instructions as mentioned in the developer guide . The problem that I am facing is that once I use a4j:support on any of my h:inputText item, the form values are not getting set in the backing bean on the submission of the form. I do have <h:messages> tag present just above the form so that all the problems should be reported there but I do not see any error message once I submit the form. But I do see that the values are not getting set. I need to find the solution as early as possible otherwise I probably have to throw the ajax4jsf framework and write javascripts instead :(

bad_application error starting erlang gen_server application

I have written a simple erlang app using gen_server. When starting it with application:start(myapp), I get the following tuple... {error,{bad_application,{application,myapp ... (rest of my application config). There are no other error or warning messages. I have also tried to google examples of how to configure gen_server and also the error itself. I am surprised at how little information there is out there. I could start trying to debug OTP?? Any pointers would be appreciated.

iPhone Push Notification Reliablity

How reliable do you find push notification on the iPhone to be? Does it improve when moving from the sandbox to production server? I am testing (with the sandbox of course) and have found that notifications are often delayed or not received at all. I am not talking about sending multiple messages and only the last one arriving, as the documentation indicates, but any notification never showing up. Also, I noticed that if I send a notification with an alert, and then send one with just a badge number, that the second notification will close the alert even after it's already opened. Does this happen between apps as well? For instance, if I send an alert for my app, and then the Facebook app sends a badge, will the Facebook badge close my alert window?

Using [delphi] MadExcept errorhandling with MS Echange Server 2007

I currently use madExcept.MailAsSmtpClient to send my bug reports. However a couple of large clients have upgraded to Exchange Server 2007 and we can't get the SMTP support for our app configured (the app runs on individual workstations so the messages aren't all coming from one IP. We can configure an authenticated account in exchange and access it via SMTP from other clients but it rejects madExcept for some reason). So I have two questions 1) has anyone successfully configured that combo ? or 2) is there an example somewhere of how to use the madExcept.UploadViaHTTP option?

Dynamically register constructor methods in an AbstractFactory at compile time using C++ templates

This works great and simplifies code maintenance but I still have some questions about this technique: Is this a known technique/pattern? what is the name? I want to search more info about it. I want to make the array for storing new constructors MessageFactory::m_List[65536] a std::map but doing so causes the program to segfault even before reaching main(). Creating an array of 65536 elements is overkill but I have not found a way to make this a dynamic container. For all message classes that are subclasses of MessageTmpl I have to implement the constructor. If not it won't register in the MessageFactory. For example commenting the constructor of the PongMessage: class PongMessage: public MessageTmpl < 11, PongMessage > { public: //PongMessage() {} /* HERE */ virtual void say() { printf("Pong\n"); } }; would result in the PongMessage class not being registered by the MessageFactory and the program would segfault in the MessageFactory::Create(11) line. The question is why the class won't register? Having to add the empty implementation of the 100+ messages I need feels inefficient and unnecessary.

jQuery Validation Plugin + equalTo Not Working

Hey guys, Here is what I am currently using to attempt to validate a form. When I press submit with no values entered into the form, I get the error messages for each of the inputs as expected. However, no matter what I put in newpassword2 or newemail2 they never 'pass' validation. I've tried everything from copy and paste to making them one letter each to no success. Perhaps I am not using the equalTo attribute correctly... I've also verified that all the names of the selectors agree with the input id's on the form. Also, all of the inputs are contained within the form, so there aren't any outside of the form tags (I read that was an issue with someone else). $(document).ready(function() { $("#account_data").validate({ rules: { newpassword1: { required: true }, newpassword2: { equalTo: "#newpassword1" }, newemail1: { required: true, email: true }, newemail2: { equalTo: "#newemail1" } } }); }); Any help would be extremely appreciated! How to Generate Edifact message from a xml ?

Hello, I'm currently dealing with customs messages Beans in Java. After filling in the Beans with different values, I want to produce an EDIFACT CUSDEC message corresponding to each message. For each attribute of a message Bean, I have the information to put the attribute in the right place in EDIFACT CUSEDC format. Thus, I am looking for a free tool (a Java API) which could ideally convert my full-filled Bean into an EDIFACT CUSDEC message. Intercept windows open file

Hello, I'm trying to make a small program that could intercept the open process of a file. The purpose is when an user double-click on a file in a given folder, windows would inform to the software, then it process that petition and return windows the data of the file. Maybe there would be another solution like monitoring Open messages and force Windows to wait while the program prepare the contents of the file. One application of this concept, could be to manage desencryption of a file in a transparent way to the user. In this context, the encrypted file would be on the disk and when the user open it ( with double-click on it or with some application such as notepad ), the background process would intercept that open event, desencrypt the file and give the contents of that file to the asking application. It's a little bit strange concept, it could be like "Man In The Middle" network concept, but with files instead of network packets. Thanks for reading.

Android 2.1: Muliple Handlers in a Single Activity

Hi, I've more than one Handlers in an Activity. I create all the handlers in the onCreate() of the main activity. My understanding is the handlerMessage() method of each handler will never be called at the same time because all messages are put in the same queue (the Activity thread MessageQueue). Therefore, they will be executed in the order in which are put into the Queue. They will also be executed in the main activity thread. Debugging kernel hang

I am trying to run an app which is using a kernel mode driver. System locks up every hour and the only way to recover it is a hard reset. Sysrq stops responding, telnet sessions hang and there are no error messages of any kind. Unfortunately the board does not have ejtag support. I have been trying to isolate it functionally, but this is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Any suggestions? PS: This is a mips linux system (2.6.31).

All, I have an SMS gateway application running on my server that passes incoming SMS messages to a php script. That script writes the data to a text file. Certain aspects of the message can be extracted as variables - for example: Message content: $msgdata Sender: $originator Time: $receivedtime etc... Using the script below I can easily write the message to a text file but it will write the data of every SMS that comes in. I only want to write to a text file if the $originator variable is a certain telephone number (e.g 07123456321) $date = date("d.m.Y H:i:s"); $msgdata = $_REQUEST["msgdata"]; $myFile3 = "test.txt"; $fh = fopen($myFile3, 'a') or die("can't open file"); $stringData3 = "$date - $msgdata\n"; fwrite($fh, $stringData3); fclose($fh); Your assistance is bery much appreciated. Sharing [config] data across modules,functions

I have some configuration data in a config file that I read off disk when the app starts. I need to make that configuration data available to other functions/modules in the application. I started down the path of looking into ets/mnesia to store the data on startup to make it shared among all processes, but then my inner voice cautioned me that there must be a more functional, erlang-y way to do this. The only alternate approach I've come up with so far is setting up a module that has an actor loop that reads the data on startup and responds to messages like {Key, From} and responds by From ! {ok,Value}. COMET chat application - IIS7 slows down over time

I have built a chat application which uses this code to push messages to clients (web pages) and to monitor online users and their information. Basically, the code creates and manages a custom thread pool for maintaining the list of connected users & their state. The application was hosted on a shared hosting account (IIS6), and worked fine. After moving the site (ASP.Net App) to a dedicated virtual server it seems I have a problem where IIS7 gets slower and slower as time passes, and my only "solution" is to restart IIS. I am trying to look at the performance counters and have do idea on which one to look.

How can I separate Logic/UI in Android

Hi, I want as my application to be structured in 2 parts: the logic code and the UI. I've tried to implement that using a controller class(here I keep the logic code) inside of each activity. The activity send messages to controller and receive the answer in two ways: the answer is returned immediately (if the action is not complex and it can be done in a verry short time) the activity set some listeners and the controller fire this listener when the action is complete. The problems appears when the controller have a lot of objects(each object should handle a set of actions and for each action I have to set & trigger a listener): it is hard to keep the code syncronized. I'm asking if you know a better way to implement this mechanism. Thank you.
